Susana Sargento from the University of Aveiro presented on a vehicular network platform developed by her team. Over the past 5 years, they have built the largest real-world vehicular mesh network testbed in Porto, Portugal. They have deployed prototype networking devices in over 500 public buses, trucks, and roadside units. This network provides continuous connectivity between vehicles as they move throughout the city. The presentation outlined the benefits of vehicular networks, how they work using WAVE and IEEE 802.11p standards, and the team's progress installing devices and visualizing the live network. Next steps include expanding the network to more vehicles and roadside units around the city to improve traffic efficiency and integrate sensor data.
