2.  Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast presents
awards to its top mentors every year. In 2014,
the organization selected a Big Brother of the
Year and Big Sister of the Year finalist from
each of the nine communities it serves. The
organization also celebrated the naming of the
chapter’s 2013 Big Sister of the Year as the 2014
Big Sister of the Year for all of Florida. However,
the real excitement centered on the two
winners.

relationship with her Little.

3.  In comments made after receiving the award,
she said she felt like she and her Little had
become family and that she could see the
difference her mentoring has made in her
Little’s behavior. She also noted that being a
mentor has changed her life.
The 2014 Big Brother of the Year, in his
comments, talked about being surprised at
how much being a Big had changed his life.
Mentoring, he said, had provided “rewards
beyond my furthest expectations … I have
gained a family relationship that will last a
lifetime.”
