Announcement of Scout Executive Leaving Post
Congratulations to Garden State Council Scout Executive Daniel A. Templar who has been
selected to serve as the new Scout Executive for Cradle of Liberty Council in Philadelphia,
effective May 16, 2015.
Dan has served as Scout Executive for the Garden State Council since 2013. He helped oversee
the successful merger of the Burlington County Council and the Southern New Jersey Council to
become GSC. Prior to the merger he served as Scout Executive for the Burlington County
Council since 2006.
“Dan has been an outstanding Scout Executive and a fixture in the Scouting community in South
Jersey for nearly a decade,” said Garden State Council President Timothy J. Bell. “We are very
pleased for Dan, this is a major step forward in his Scouting career. We are grateful for the time
and talents he shared with our council, and we will miss his tremendous enthusiasm and passion
for moving the Scouting program forward. ”
Garden State Council Scout Executive Daniel A. Templar said he has mixed emotions about
leaving the council. “I am thrilled and excited from a professional and personal perspective, but I
will very much miss working with the GSC volunteers.” He added, “When my family and I first
moved to South Jersey more than nine years ago, the Scouting community welcomed us with
open arms. That is still true today, and we couldn’t be more grateful or appreciative.”
Templar noted, “The last nine years have brought a lot of change for the betterment of the quality
of the Scouting programs in South Jersey, and many great things are yet to come. I know that
Garden State Council is in the good hands of our more than 7,000 dedicated, passionate adult
volunteers. I also know that the Garden State Scouting family will welcome and embrace the
next Scout Executive in the same warm way you have embraced my entire family. Thank you all
for all that you have done and will continue to do for the youth of South Jersey.”
The search process for a new Scout Executive will soon be underway, led by the Garden State
Council Executive Board.

Garden State Council Selects New Scout Executive
Westampton, N.J. – (June 15, 2015) The Garden State Council, Boy Scouts of America is
pleased to announce the appointment of a new Scout Executive Kevin J. Bishop who will assume
the position on July 16, 2015.

2. The Scout Executive is responsible for the daily operations of the Garden State Council and
works closely with volunteers, families, donors, area businesses and the local community to
grow and support Scouting programs in South Jersey.
“We are very pleased to welcome Kevin Bishop as the new Scout Executive, to help us continue
to enhance and grow the Scouting program for the more than 10,600 youth and 6,000 volunteers
that make Scouting possible in our local communities.” said Garden State Council President
Timothy J. Bell. “Kevin will be a great addition to our already outstanding team of
professionals and volunteers.”
Kevin J. Bishop brings more than 33 years of professional Scouting experience to the position.
He has served as Scout Executive since 2008 for the Housatonic Council in Derby, CT. He has
held various positions in mid-sized and large councils in New York, Massachusetts and
Connecticut including Field Director, Director of Support Services and Program Director.
“I am thrilled to have been selected as Scout Executive and look forward to being able to work
with the volunteers of the Garden State Council to develop and innovate programs that will
enable us to deliver Scouting programs to every youth possible,” said Bishop.
Bishop is an Eagle Scout and is Wood Badge trained. He has also served as an Assistant
Scoutmaster at Philmont Scout Ranch and the National Jamboree. Both he and his wife Glenna
are active Scouting volunteers in their local community. Glenna is Wood Badge trained and has
served on the training staff, and has been a Den Leader, Cubmaster, Roundtable Commissioner,
Council Commissioner, Council Vice President and on the staff at the Philmont Training Center
and the National Jamboree.
Bishop holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies from Stonehill College in North
Easton, Mass.
The Garden State Council serves more than 10,600 youth and has more than 6,000 volunteers in
the five South Jersey counties of Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester,
Salem, and Buena Vista Township and the Borough of Buena Vista in Atlantic County. The
council operates the Riggins Scout Resource Center in Milville, NJ, the Rowan Scout Resource
Center and Rowan Scout Training & Support Center in Westampton, NJ, and owns and operates
four camp properties: Roosevelt Scout Reservation, Pine Hill Scout Reservation, Pine Tree
Education & Environmental Center and the Halgas Scout Camp.
