Reflective Assignment
Assignment Reflective Essay
The aim of this reflective essay is to evaluate my professional development whilst undertaking the
role of the Developing Intra Operative Practitioner/ Advanced Scrub Practitioner (ASP). Using a
reflective model I want to see how my new role affects me as an Operating Department
Practitioner (ODP) and any legal implications it has for me as an employee.
For this assignment I have decided to use the Gibbs (1988) date model of reflection and will base
the assignment on prevention of Surgical Site Infection (SSI) in relation to the operative procedure
of a total hip replacement. The Perioperative Care Collaborative (PCC) defines the ASP role as the
role undertaken by a registered perioperative practitioner ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Fig. 1) Gibbs Model of Reflection. (BCU, 2005)
My practical competencies have been obtained through working with a general and orthopaedic
surgeon. Whilst working with my clinical supervisor, (a consultant orthopaedic surgeon) we
decided it would be beneficial to review orthopaedic wound infections. I chose to concentrate on
wound infections during a Total Hip Replacement (THR). Wound infections is a massive subject
so I have selected specific areas to look at, which are: * Skin Preparations.
* Draping.
Surgical site infections (SSI) occur in 2 5% of clean non abdominal surgical procedures (Rothrock,
2007). Staphylococcus epidermidis is the most common cause for SSI in Orthopaedic surgery
(NICE, 2008). Guidelines were produced by the National Institute for Health and Clinical
Excellence (NICE) to try and reduce this infection rate and include a preoperative phase, (including
hair removal and antibiotic prophylaxis), an intra operative phase and postoperative phase.
The majority of SSIs become apparent within 30 days of an operative procedure and most often
between the 5th and 10th postoperative days. However, where a prosthetic implant is used, SSI
affecting the deeper tissues may occur many years after the initial operation.
SSI are measured by definitions from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) or the
Surgical Site Infection Surveillance Service, other valid measures based on clinical signs and

Pursuit Of Power In Macbeth
Seeking power is exhilarating but it can be someone s undoing. The hunt for power can
oftentimes lead to different external and internal consequences, which can also depend on the
person or environment. Shakespeare s Macbeth focuses on a character who eventually becomes
obsessed with the pursuit of power, and trying to control the power that he already has. His power
affects him and everyone around him. This act of trying to collect as much power as possible will
ruin him, ultimately being his downfall. The real life example of Vladimir Putinshowcases that he
and people around him have also suffered the the consequences evident in Macbeth. Many times,
the pursuit of power will lead to psychological impacts such as feeling fear and guilt which can
show on the outside as delusion and insanity.
Macbeth has hallucinations based around guilt and to others he seems delusional and insane. After
he hires the three murderers to kill Banquo and Fleance, they come back unsuccessful, only
managing to kill Banquo. He is haunted by a hallucination of an apparition of (supposedly)
Banquo and says (to GHOST) Thou canst not say I did it. Never shake. Thy gory locks at me.
/ Gentlemen, rise. His highness is not well (Shakespeare 3.4.61 63). Without being prompted by
the ghost, Macbeth responds and another noble is weary of his actions. He kills Banquo because
Banquo suspects that Macbeth did something horrible (like killing the king) to become king.
Macbeth wants to keep the power that he

Meeting Demi Lovato
Meeting, Demi Lovato, 21, In the perfectly landscaped land of Hollywood made it clear to me
that she really is a superstar. With her 10 Teen choice awards and her Latina attitude, she sat
opposite me with her blue locks and her winning smile, welcoming me to her office. Demi has
recently helped host a contest for the popular companies Acuvue, which hosted a 1 Day contest.
Having just heard the news that her song give your heart a break was to be appearing on Glee
and that she landed a job on X Factor, made me even more excited that I was going to be in her
presence for the next hour or so. My first impression of Demi was that she was quite shy, until
she began laughing at the noise my chair made as I nervously sat down. Embarrassing. But I
knew that I was going to like this interview. I began asking her about her experience in mentoring
the contestants throughout the contest. Her answer was motherly. She expressed that she felt
good helping them out, encouraging them to come out of their shell and to really push them
towards their dreams. She mentioned her past and how she wished that someone did that for her,
then explaining how Acuvue were really sweet to her and how they are the best contacts in the
world. With this she smiled, and coffee was brought to her mahogany table. By far the shiniest
wooden desk I ve possibly ever seen. I continued the topic of Acuvue and asked if she had the
chance, would she ever let fans come backstage with you like she did with her

Harriet Tubman
Harriet Ross Tubman was an African American who escaped slavery and then showed runaway
slaves the way to freedom in the North for longer than a decade before the American Civil War.
During the war she was as a scout, spy, and nurse for the United States Army. After that she kept
working for rights for blacks and women.
br
br Harriet Tubman was originally named Araminta Ross. She was one of 11 children born to
Harriet Greene and Benjamin Ross on a plantation in Dorchester County, Maryland. She later
took her mother s first name. Harriet was working at the age of five. She was a maid and a children

br Harriet Tubman was an inspiration to both white and black abolitionists. She worked closely
with a black antislavery activist named William Still in Philadelphia with Underground Railroad
conductor Thomas Garrett, a Quaker who lived in Wilmington, Delaware. An abolitionist named
John Brown gave her the title General Tubman. She discussed with John Brown his plan to start a

History Of Mission San Juan Capistrano
The history of Mission San Juan Capistrano is similar to that of two other nearby missions in that it
was relocated to the San Antonio area from East Texas in 1731. Its purpose was also similar to that
of the other missions, namely to convert Native American groups to Christianity, assimilate them
into Spanish society, and promote settlement in the region. In addition to its early history, the
mission compound itself was constructed in a form typical of other San Antonio area missions,
including a church and plaza surrounded by a defensive wall formed from stone Indian quarters.
The compound included other ancillary structures such as a granary, convent, workshops, and other
storage facilities. Today the complex includes the ruins of the second

Analysis of Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman
Arthur Miller s play Death of a Salesman was a hit nearly from its debut, and its importance to
American literature and theater has not diminished in the over half a century since its first
performance in 1949. However, the specific areas of the play that have most intrigued critics have
changed over time, as different historical, social, and literary concerns lead critics to come up with
different interpretations. By analyzing three different critical responses to Death of a Salesman, it
will be possible to not only understand the playbetter, but also actually see how the reception of
the play has changed as society s standards of criticism and discourse changed over the
intervening years. One is able to see how shifting views on patriarchy lead to a change in the
play s reception, and particularly the characterization of Willy Loman, who transforms from a
tragic, albeit flawed man into the contemptible lackey of a patriarchal, capitalist society that has
little regard for human health or happiness. The first critical response to Death of a Salesman
considered here actually comes from 1949, just as the play was first debuting on Broadway. The
first reviews of the play were almost unanimously positive, and February, 1949, review in the Los
Angeles Times is indicative of the praises it received at the time. The Times review, like most
popular reviews, does not bother with literary theory, but rather focuses solely on the plot and
reviewing the constituent elements of the

Persuasive Essay On Manifest Destiny
America is the home of the brave and land of the free. It s the continent known for the start of new
beginnings, and renewal of life. You are free to believe what you want, love who you wish, and be
you think you are designed to be. Although America may have many benefits that most countries
and continents don t, it came at a price. America had to fight her way to the top, and every
constitutional right was earned by the endurance and victories it took to make them possible. From
a fledgling nation that didn t have much hope to one that had the courage to proclaim Manifest
Destiny America definitely earned everything it has to offer.
From the beginning America has been a sort of safe haven. From when the pilgrims first decided to
cross the Atlantic, due to the dysfunctions of England. At the time England was very unfair to most
of its people. By not letting one rank up higher if the where at a lower class, or only letting the
eldest of the family inherit any land that the parents owned, leaving nothing to offer their other
children. But the biggest reason was that the Church of England wouldn t allow its people to
worship God the way the people felt was correct. So therefore they made the decision to cross over
to America where they would be free to start over again and worship God freely and how they felt
was the accurate and correct way to do so.
Although crossing over to America was the only option the pilgrims had if they wished to start
anew there would be risks that came with it. The risk of leaving their homes behind knowing that
returning wasn t exactly an option. Along with the fact that they didn t have an exact idea of
where they were going or where they would end up. They basically risked their lives just to be
able to worship God freely and for their families to not have to dwell under England s unfair rulings.
After crossing the relentless Atlantic with the tragic fact that some of their people were lost along
the way, they officially made it to America. They arrived in the land that was going to be the start
of their new lives, but it resulted in more than half of their population dead within the first few
weeks of winter. Even though they faced many difficulties they still

Invacare Wheelchair Strategy Case
The wheelchair industry is currently (1992 1993) composed of three companies controlling 72%
of the wheelchair market (including parts). Even though together they are a dominating force, the
overall profitability of the industry is comparable to that of a not a very attractive one, with the top
two players averaging a meager 5.7% Net Income and the third one (the former market leader)
losing considerable money (see Exhibit A).

If this happens and more sales are driven through the Rehab Suppliers for example, then it would be
safe to say profitability will increase, since that channel does not have deep discounts compared to
HME. (2% price decrease in 1992 vs HEM s 15%)
Quickie s main advantage relies on being a pioneer in the industry, while Invacare s been a
follower. Quickie released many product innovations and could be credited as the creator of
lightweight and ultralight segments in the category (see Exhibit 6 in the case). Part of the benefits
that being the first hitter in the category is the market share yield on those innovative segments
(Quickie holds a remarkable 49% market share on the ultralight segment)
Quickie also has multiple other advantages (as a part of Sunrise) such as the manufacturing and
logistics philosophies like Just in Time, lean manufacturing, etc. A factor that accounts for
decreasing quality issues and manufacturing costs is using fewer parts versus Invacare s Action
wheelchairs (50 100% less parts in Quickie s model), this approach also benefits Hospitals and
Nursing Homes ability to hold inventory in contrast to Invacare s strategy. Quickie s COGS for

Analysis Of The Poem Twenty One Love Poems By Adrienne...
Adrienne Rich was a highly acclaimed twentieth century poet who railed against war and the
injustices in the world, and also used imagery that spoke tenderly of love feelings that she sensed
were both highly individual for her, but also universal. Twenty One Love Poems were written
between 1974 1976 to her lover of the time, and they track the course of the relationship through the
sweet beginning stages, the development of mature love, and all the way through to its dissolution
due to her partner s seeming inability to come out and admit to her homosexuality at a time in
society when relationships between women were not endorsed or supported. The language in
these poems is very rich and weaves both ugly city imagery and elegant metaphors and similes
together, with the apparent intention of making the reader search inside to see if the images and
ideas conveyed by the language can be applied to the reader s own experience of living too. While
these poems are highly individualistic and at times very personal, this impressive and moving body
of poetic accomplishment also reflects themes to which all human beings can relate. In an interview
with Kate Waldman in The Paris Review, Rich herself states that:
As long as I can remember I have cared about the timbre, the phrasing of a poetic line. Ever since
Snapshots, I ve worked close to the pull and release of voices... The voices may be individual, but
they re searching for a shared moral reality. This

Why People Lie Essay

Let s say that, we always hear lies everywhere. Lies can hurt other people, and lies can be a joke to
have fun with everyone. Lies can also be a way to glossing over the fact. Lies can protect who are
telling the lie. Everyone lies, although the ideas of lying to people are wrong, but people still lie
about anything in their life. In this essay, it will talk about which ways people will lie and how
they lie.

Sometimes, some people will use a lie to hurt or laugh at someone. For example, when I was in
primary school, my classmate enjoyed to laugh with someone in my class. Maybe they want to
make fun of people, but they always make other people feel really bad of themselves. My
teachers always told us to not do those awful things to other, but they didn t care about that. They
still make fun of other students. I think it is an immoral way to use lie because that would hurt not
on the body, but on the spiritual side! If the spiritual gets hurt, it is harder to recover than physique
pain! Also, my classmate could destroy a person childhood. It is the fact and grave! Lie can destroy
everything not only childhood!
Lies can be one kind of believe and have fun. For example, if the father and mother tell their kids
about Christmas has Santa Claus, who gives Christmas presents to their kids. Some kids usually
believe in Santa Claus. In the future, the kids will know it is not true, but they will think it was a
good memory in their childhood! I think it is a good way to use lie. Lying can be fun, but doesn t
use it in a bad way on other person because it will lets the person get hurt like my classmate.
In my daily life, people always lie for purpose. For instance, my friend would like to transfer to
California s college. The college required the TOEFL test, and she has already prepared for the test
and waited to transfer

When Do Opportunity Costs Count

situational factors, vagueness of opportunity cost presentation and stage of project completion,

component of classical economic theory , and defined as the value of the next highest valued
alternative use of that resource (Victoravich, 2010; Henderson, 2015). Opportunity costs are also

For the purposes of the study, Victoravich defines vagueness as a common pitfall of real world
situations because decision makers do not have access to exact information about the costs and
benefits of all available options (2010).
In the way in which Victoravich presents prior research findings and constructs, there seems to a
clear gray area. Victoravich s presentation showcases the importance and need of additional research
in order to conducted to elaborate, clarify, and expanding on the previous findings and judgements.
Victoravich s study incorporates prior findings and seeks to the supplement the shortcomings of the
prior research studies, such as:
Shortcomings of Previous Research:
Prior research has typically presented opportunity costs in a precise manner, which is inconsistent
with how they would appear in a realistic setting.
Prior research has not investigated whether opportunity cost vagueness reduces decision makers

Prior research has yet to investigate the cognitive process by which attention to opportunity costs

Ethics Of Care Ethics Paper
In 2013, Swift stated a clear majority of Americans (58%) say the drug should be legalized (1).
Within the past three years this number has increased. The Ethics of Care is related to this
concept because it has to do with taking a look at what is right and wrong. This system also takes
a look at equality within all. The development to sanction weed reflects the generally late
accomplishment of the development to legitimize gay marriage, which voters have likewise

The Ethics of Care stands for an attempt to change moral intelligent talk from the usual focus on
justice rights, and fairness, to another system that merges clearly feminine qualities for example
focusing too much on relationships, kindness, and the communication between and those for
who they take care of. John Tronto argues that the definition of the term ethics of care is
confusing due in part to the lack of a central role it plays in moral. He argues that moral is
engaged with human goodness, then care would appear to assume a big role in this type of way
of thinking. However, this is not the case and Tronto further stresses the association between care

extracted from e learning activity. The second section represents the application of the ideas in an
organisation.
Section One:
Modification in production: In early 20th century, Henry Ford formed a business partnership with
Alexander Malcomson, and launched an organization with the end goal of assembling cars under
the name The Ford Motor Company . Every car was assembled by groups of skillful workers, and,
cooperating, these groups aggregately spent more than 12 hours assembling every car
(EyeWitness to History, 2005). This procedure was exceptionally costly and tedious, subsequently
making it unimaginable for Ford to mass deliver his cars at moderate costs. To streamline this
procedure and produce a bigger volume of vehicles in a shorter measure of time. Removal of
excessive physical work: Taylor s scientific management theory was established on the rule that
individual specialists would be more profitable on the off chance that they were doled out
assignments that were appropriately suited to their own abilities and qualities. Taylor further
contended that the end of pointless physical development by laborers would bring about expanded
profitability. Ford contracted Taylor to watch his workers and decide the most proficient and
efficient techniques for expanding the organization s profitability. Ford concentrated on Taylor s
perceptions and, as 1908 advanced,

Traits: Determination, Analytical, Immature to Mature
In the novel, The Curious Incident of the dog in the Night Time by Mark Haddon, the protagonist,
Christopher, is trying to solve some of the mysteries that surround his life in Swindon, and get to his
mother s place and back through a mature understanding of social integration. In Swindon, some
positive influences of mother in his past lead to some maturity and parts of his analytical trait, but
primarily, determination and immaturity direct Christopher s autism when solving the mystery of

When he goes into the store, it is very crowded. Immaturity directs his autism when he crouches on
the floor with his hands over his ears. Immaturity is directing his autism, and drawing away from
social integration because Christopher does not understand that because he is crouching down in
the middle of the store, he is blocking everyone else who is trying to shop. Furthermore, when
Christopher s mother tries to move him, Christopher starts to scream in the store, drawing bad
attention to himself, and drawing further away from his understanding of social integration. This
shows many immature decisions directing his autism because he is not yet able to control his
autistic traits, contrasting to in the end, when he is able to recognize his autistic traits, and control
them with his mature understanding of social integration. In addition, Christopher shows
immaturity in his past when he is able to recognize and reflect maturely on his immature acts that
were directing his autism. When Christopher recognizes his behavioural problems that he used to
have, he is able to reflect on the reasoning of his problems, and know that he has matured from his

What Is The Heights Of Selfie Madness Essay
The habit of giving freely without expecting anything in return is called generosity that has lost
it meaning in our day s now. People now are so quick to give so they can gain something in
return whether it being publicity or the appreciation from others. In our generation we are so
focused on what we are gaining rather than what we are giving. We have change the meaning of
giving in all in this generation, what is giving without asking the question what are we receiving
in return. This picture specks for itself in our time now, for example if am volunteering usually
90 % of the time I am thinking of how I can I benefit from it. We are so self center in our
generation nothing really comes for free. In our society, our time now it all comes down to

Although there is some interest in the potential that Sense proposes, there are ethical concerns
as to the information that businesses will have access to. Do you feel that the privacy risks
surrounding Citysense are significant? Would you sign up to use Sense Networks services?
Why or why not? I am not one who likes everyone to know everything about me. I am somewhat
personal and only divulge information at my discretion. Having said that, if this application is
one that requires a user to allow access, then, I do not see privacy issues being a real issue.
Personally I would not sign up for their service because I do not want the stores I patron to know
that much about me. They are already getting my money; why do they need more? I do think if
Sense put out an application that was strictly for cell phones carried by children then I would
consider it. I want my children to be safe and if something were to happen, an application as the
one mentioned, would be very useful. Chapter 12: Too Many Bumped Fliers: Why? (p. 459) Is

The Importance of an Enhanced Vocabulary
The Importance of an Enhanced Vocabulary for ESL Learners The Importance of an Enhanced
Vocabulary for ESL Learners
Learning a non native language is no easy task to partake, but a very important one for the many
people that are trying not to get lost in the translation as they make their transition in their new
home land. In a country that has shown itself to be less than tolerable to non English speakers,
immigrants are in a race with themselves to learn the language and assimilate as best they can.
When it comes to learning a new language there seems to be a bit of a debate as to how to go
about it. One side of the issue declares that learning the rules of grammar is the best way while the
other sides with the importance of building a strong native vocabulary in the language being
learned. The debate essentially comes down to one of Vocabulary versus Grammar. This papers
purpose is highlight the attributes of vocabulary knowledge rather than the grammatical; to
illustrate the importance of a solid, non native vocabulary, the impact it can have on the
functionality and learning ability of English as a second language, and to point out various
strategies, for both students and teachers, that can be implemented in order to assist prospective

My Experience At Bluefield State College
The world consists of many different cultures and ethnicities. One of the bests things about living
in America is getting to see almost every difference first hand even if you do live in Princeton,
WV. I didn t see as many cultural differences until I started to attend college at Bluefield State
College. But that isn t where I met Eduardo Henrique Pereira. We met playing soccer on my old
high schools soccer field one sunny afternoon. He is from San Paulo, Brazil and currently attends
Princeton Senior High School. He is only seven teen years old and has been in America for only
nine months. I was very eager to find out what his hobbies and interests are and just how different
Brazil was from America.
The first topic discussed was holidays. We first talked about how he celebrates Christmas Day.
He said that they all would wake up and eat breakfast together first thing that morning. They
would then visit and begin making lunch shortly after. They made rice, black beans, chicken,
cakes, candies, and would have it with wine. At first when I heard wine I was a bit thrown off
guard, but he explained that the drinking age is eighteen unlike America where it is twenty one. He
then proceeded with telling me that around eight at night they would all sit around the tree and one
person will be designated to get the presents under the tree and call out the name that was on the
present much like we do here in America. I too get up and have breakfast with my family Christmas

Why Are Factory Farming Bad
Industrialized farming is a constant in today s world. Every hour of every day, these farms are
cranking out thousands of pounds of meat, eggs, dairy, etc. Many claim it is quick and efficient.
While factory farming does get the job done, per se, the job is not done without causing
devastation. Environmentally, these farms have caused severe amounts of damage. They are
responsible for thirty seven percent of the world s methane emissions, having a huge impact on
climate change. Methane emissions are at least twenty times more hazardous to the climate than
carbon dioxide emissions (Good). Farmers that manage and own industrial farms, and their
customers, face dangers as well. Many farmers develop a resistance to antibiotics after being...

Said risks come in all shapes and sizes. From economic to health problems, CAFOs are a source
of all sorts of impending issues. One of the many dilemmas people face is the danger of antibiotics.
Antibiotics are force fed to the animals that reside on industrialized farms to promote faster growth.
What many people do not realize is that these antibiotics are in the meat they are eating, and
therefore causing an almost invisible, yet extremely detrimental health risk. The use of antibiotics
in animals has been seemingly harmless until recently when medical professionals discovered that
humans are building up a resistance to antibiotics. Antibiotics have been around for centuries, and
they have been working up until recent years. Humans have begun to develop resistance to
antibiotics that fight deadly diseases (NIAID). The unnatural feeds, hormones, and excessive
quantities of antibiotics used on factory farms put the human population at risk for chronic disease,
obesity, and drug resistant bacteria, and pose the threat of major zoonotic disease outbreaks. The
previous quote barely skims the surface of the dangers antibiotic resistance is creating. On average,
ninety million Americans die from diseases antibiotics once could have defended them from, but
they had developed resistance to such antibiotics (Farm Sanctuary). Antibiotics are crucial to human
life; building resistance to them must

causing growth in industry, accelerated productivity and the laissez faire attitude of the federal

In interpretation B, Jones connotes that the booming economy in the 1920 s was due to
technological innovation and advancement, however in contrast with Cannadine he does give
limited credit to the war. Jones argues that productivity increased resulting from technological
innovation and the application of Frederick W. Taylor s theory of scientific management . Scientific
management basically increased efficiency in the workplace and ensured employees were working
in areas which they could excel in; taking a more scientific approach to production. This contradicts
Potter who says maximum productivity was reached because of the strain felt by labour shortages
during the war causing workers to be more efficient and therefore produce more. He also uses facts
and figures to back up his statements telling us that although the population increased by only about
16%..., industrial production almost doubled . This supports his view on increased productivity
which Gerstle shares as he also mentions that productivity and efficiency [were lifted] to new
heights during this period. Jones puts a lot of emphasis on technological advancement in creating
the booming economy, saying electricity consumption more than doubled during the decade mainly

The Pros And Cons Of Welfare Reform
Welfare, it is on just about everyones mind, whether it is Medicare or the A.F.D.C. Some believe
there is too much and others think there is too little. As the years go by, the need for welfare
reform increases. President Clinton had pledged in his 1992 campaign to quot;end welfare as we
know it quot;. Only time will tell by what extremes welfarewill change.
As technology continues to increase and jobs continue to go overseas, the United States must decide
what direction the welfare system should take. As they exist today, welfare systems are an
evolution of the thoughts laid out in the 19th and 20th centuries. Before the Industrial Revolution,

An example of how food stamps are distributed is given by the Congressional Digest, quot;A four
person household with countable income below the federal poverty guidelines and specified
assets of less than $20,000 qualifies for up to about $380 worth of food stamps monthly. quot;
Finally the Supplemental Security Income provides benefits to the elderly (over 65 years of
age), blind, and the permanently disabled. The service pays $446 per month to each individual
as long as their income are below pre set levels by the government. Since 1974 when the program
was started, the cost of running the program has grown from $4 billion to $25 billion, only 20
years later (Robinson, 166 168).
The definition of the Welfare State is very important in fully understanding the problems and issues
of the Welfare debate. Arthur J. Schlesinger, Jr. a member of the Kennedy administration and
historian had this to say about the Welfare State: Briefly, it is a system wherein government agrees
to underwrite certain levels of employment, income, education, medical aid, social security, and
housing for all its citizens.
The government does not try to do all these things itself; it seeks where possible to supplement the
initiatives of private society. But it does accept the ultimate responsibility of guaranteeing
quot;floors quot; in certain crucial areas, below which it conceives tolerable living to be
impossible. And it will

discussed in detail, in order to improve throughput using the current software system, Epic in this
case. The goal is optimal patient outcomes using electronic prescribing. A solution will be reviewed
utilizing Epic, a standard electronic health record(EHR) involving the HL7 initiatives.
The Problem The problem is fragmented electronic health records (EHRs) that lack communication

E prescribing can be a part of the EHR in Epic, which would include patient data, and not just
prescription information. When e prescriptions are utilized in Epic, the medication is checked
for interactions with the patient s other medications and allergies. Check systems within Epic
look for drug allergy, drug drug, and how the medication reacts with the disease. In a case study
of 17 physicians in an ambulatory clinic conducted by Abramson et al., error rates from
prescribing decreased from 35.7 per 100 prescriptions to 12.2 per 100 prescriptions in a year of e
prescribing as reviewed in this study. The Health Information Technology for Economic and
Clinical Health (HITECH) Act of 2009 stated that healthcare providers would have access to
EHRs to ensure the meaningful use standards per the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare
Services (CMS). Meaningful use is attained by increasing the quality of patient outcomes by
having access to the medication data, the patient s history, and diagnosis by the prescriber.
Prescribing is safer, when the provider is aware of the patient s history, current medications, and
allergies, therefore better patient outcomes. In the United States, the HITECH Act and the
meaningful use standards stated by CMS have increased the use of e prescribing per Friedman
(2009). The CMS made e prescribing a

This is expressed in the Goldsborough article as well.

geeks is geeks get it done. (Goldsborough, 2010)
These are both well stated definitions of nerd and geek; they provide a modern view of the

outcasts, manage to still be able to make friends and do their job fairly well. There are also some

The first difference is the background history, Star Wars takes place in a distant universe in a
galaxy far far away. That has its own cultures and ideologies based on a mixture of our own.
While on the other spectrum Star Trek is a more realistic future in which the earth has expanded
into space with other galactic civilizations to create a space federation to protect themselves
from other united galactic civilizations, while also exploring the unknown. From that other
background comes knowledge and mystics. The big difference here is that Star Wars has a
mystic knowledge that is held by the Jedi and Sith who have protected the galaxy since the
beginning, but in Star Trek all of the knowledge comes from learning, and has no true mysticism
in it. Just following facts and common knowledge to do what needs to be done. Putting the

Hair As A Man With Facial Hair
Do you find a man s facial hair attractive? Currently among young men growing facial hair has
been a popular trend, such as the goatee, heavy stubble, handlebar mustache and chevron. Research
has shown that a man with facial hair symbolizes masculinity, individuality, and maturity. Men
grow facial hair for numerous reasons, such as to look professional and attract a woman, follow
their icons fashion style and the latest trend, and participate in an event like No Shave November.
Facial hair was tremendously popular in the US for men in the late 1800s. Dating throughout the
history of US men facial hair trend, styling mustache and beardwas once very popular and today
the facial trend is once again the most popular trend among other trends. According to a story

Barbers were commonly black men, but after the Civil War, white men became less comfortable
to get their facial hair done with black barbers because of racial tensions. Which led white men to
groom their own facial hair. White men groomed their own facial hair, risking tetanus and even
death if their razor was not properly sterilized, and this led facial hair into fashion (Eehn). For the
last decades, facial hair trend has been vanishing and rising again, but currently the trend of growing

decides on a goal and knows she can attain it, even if others only respond with incredulity or
mockery. Legally Blonde has many positive depictions of women and femininity for a 2001 film.
Elle doesn t fit the misogynist prospect of submissive femininity. She is loud, emotional, and
flamboyant. When she enters a room with the clacking of her bright pink heels, Chihuahua in arm,
beaming and effusive, you cannot ignore her. Elle s bubbliness and enthusiasm is often disdained,
especially in the legal world, but she continues to express her true self. She is unapologetic about
being attractive, sexual and caring about her appearance. She does not stop being stereotypically
girly despite that it makes others think she is less legitimate and intelligent. She proves that sexy
and smart are not opposing forces. Elle is the perfect example of how being feminine does not mean
you submit to patriarchal notion of submissiveness.
One of the fundamental themes in Legally Blonde is that a female having an ardor for fashion
does not make her dim witted and that fashion insight is not an immanently futile form of
knowledge. Elle s fashion knowledge is introduced when a retailer labels her as a dumb blonde, and
tries to take advantage of her by ripping off the last season sale tag and selling it to her for full
price. Did you see this one? We just got it in yesterday. the retailer told her. Slyly, she asks Is this
a low viscosity rayon with half loop top stitching on the hem?. Why yes, it s one of a kind, the
retailer replied. Elle uses her fashion knowledge and wittily replies It s impossible to use a half
loop topstitch on low viscosity rayon.

The Barriers Of Multicultural Teams
1. Which of the four barriers for multicultural teams (or groups) have you experienced in the past?
What strategies or interventions were used in response to these barriers? After considering the
interventions suggested by Brett, Behfar, and Kern (2006), explain how you might change the
strategy if you encounter the barrier(s) in the future and if so, why? If you have not personally
experienced any of these barriers during your education or work history, research an example of a
barrier from literature, explain the intervention used in that example, and your suggestions for
overcoming the barrier in the future.

Other cultures tend to use an indirect form of communication where their true response is
embedded in the presentation of the message. Accents and fluency problems also cause barriers as
it is hard to understand someone with a thick accent or to speak with someone who has little
knowledge and working use of a foreign language that another team member might use. The group
member might have an idea of how to say something in their head but can t find the words in
another language to share the idea (Brett, Behfar, and Kern, 2006).
Some individuals on the team might also want to be treated according to their status in the
organization. A challenge inherent in multicultural teammates is that by design, teams have a rather
flat structure. Team members from some cultures, are uncomfortable on flat teams (Brett, Behfar,
and Kern, 2006, p. 124). It is important to recognize the hierarchy structure of the country and how
their citizens handle conflict before conducting business with them. Lastly, different cultures have
conflicting norms when it comes to decision making. Some cultures like to make decisions quickly
while others want to think about the decision and analyze it before coming to a conclusion as far
as action to take (Brett, Behfar, and Kern, 2006).
There are four strategies, according to Brett,

Propolis Lab Report
Purpose; The antioxidant properties of Capparis spinosa honey and propolis and the effect of
combined honey and propolis administration on urine volume and electrolytes were studied in rats.
Material and methods; Capparis spinosa honey (1g/kg.b.wt), propolis (100 mg/kg.b.wt), honey
/propolis mixture (100 mg/1g/kg.b.wt), distilled water (1 ml/kg.b.wt) and furosemide (10 mg
/kg.b.wt) were orally administered to five groups of rats for 21 days. Urine volume, blood and urine
sodium, potassium and chloride were measured. The antioxidant activity of propolis and the honey
was assessed and their total phenols and flavonoids were determined.
Results; Propolis and Capparis spinosa honey contain polyphenols including flavonoids and propolis
demonstrated higher antioxidant activities than honey. Honey significantly increased urine volume
and urine electrolyte excretion. Propolis has no significant effect on urine volume but co
administration of propolis and honey caused significant diuresis. No major changes were observed
in plasma electrolytes with use of honey, propolis or their combination.
Conclusion; Honey and propolis have antioxidant activity and contain polyphenols including
flavonoids that were more pronounced in propolis. Honey has a significant diuretic activity alone or
in combination with propolis. This is the first study comparing the diuretic effect of co
administration of propolis and Capparis spinosa honey with furosemide.

Essay about The Detrimental Effects of Global Warming
The Detrimental Effects of Global Warming
The morning sun begins to shed its light on the city below. Turning off the alarm, James removes
his Dexcron SleepInhaler 4000 to breathe in what little oxygen he can. Feeling light headed, he
quickly dresses into the day s apparel consisting of a climate controlled, blue bio suit and an
oxygen tank. Today marks the first day of the monthso he turns his calendar as he walks towards
the door. He closes the door wondering what caused the world to be this way. All he can remember
is that the temperature has been rising since he was born and the hottest day on record, 122 degrees
in Cleveland, was recorded last week. Exposing himself to the outdoor elements, he waits for the

Others worry about the consequences of continued use of fossil fuels since humans are the cause of
this phenomena. Finally, a majority of people are very worried about global warming becoming a
reality since most mainstream scientists and scientific bodies agree that heat trapping gases like
carbon dioxide (CO2) . . . have caused temperatures to rise around the globe ( New Science. . . ).
The concern listed last is a perfect example of the power of hype. While many different sectors
of the media and even world governments proclaim that all scientists agree global warming is
occurring, a quiet majority is beginning to speak up. In 1992, a Gallup survey asked many
climatologists. The survey found that 81 percent respondents believed that the global temperature
had not risen over the past 100 years ( Global Warming Consensus . . . ). A survey conducted by
American Viewpoint found that climatologists believe that global warming is largely a natural
phenomenon by a margin of 44% to 17% ( Global Warming Consensus . . . ). Along with this
survey, other untruths are appearing about claims that scientists who believe in global have signed
thousands of letters warming. According to the National Center for Public Policy Research, a
letter used in a report by Ozone Action was actually signed by landscape architects, a gynecologist,
and a practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine ( Global Warming Consensus . . . ).

Using Balanced Scorecard for Subcontractor Performance Appraisal
S. Thomas NG, Hong Kong, China
Key words: Subcontractor performance, performance appraisal, balanced scorecard
SUMMARY Several influential industry reports have pointed out that a decline in construction
quality and productivity could be attributed to the performance of subcontractors who are entrusted
to complete the actual works, yet subcontractor performance appraisal is a much neglected subject
in construction. To facilitate subcontractor registration, managementand/or selection, an equitable
and reliable subcontractor performance appraisal would be indispensable. Being regarded as a
reliable and practical means for performance evaluation, the balanced scorecard ... Show more

Summary Of The Movie The Aftermath
The Aftermath Through the emerging 21st Century, there was straining tension in the air with a
concentration encircling the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the United States. The resulting effect from
this event was the modification of the entire system of airplane modeling, safety, procedure, and
technology to conform to the emerging dangers of air flight in attempt to making travel a more
enjoyable and protected experience. Though this new and improved system of air flight
demonstrated positivity and appeared to be a fantastic alternative to the previous regulations, the
world was shocked in July 2002 whilst the Bashkirian Airlines Flight 2937 had a fortuitous collision
with airline DH2 Flight 611 (Gugliemi 6). In this concussion, the air flight traffic coordinator was
temporarily distracted while the two planes conflicted due to lack of communication. During the
period at which one airplane descended 10,00 feet, the other ascended 10,000 feet resulting in the
death of hundreds of people upon plummeting to the immediate earth (YouTube). In the movie
trailer of the Aftermath, a specific storyline is developed in order to both captivate and inspire the
spectators. Kayolev is confronted with the terrible reality that his wife, daughter and future
grandchild were aboard the plane that resulted in a terrible demise. In the furtherance of this trailer,
the original protagonist withstands a series of events and becomes an antagonist through realizing

The streets of Tehran and other Iranian cities are patrolled by the militia, who ride in white
Toyota patrols, four gun carrying men and women, sometimes followed by a minibus. They are
called the Blood of God. They patrol the streets to make sure that women like Sanaz wear their
veils properly, do not wear makeup, do not walk in public with men who are not their father,
brother, and or husbands. (paragraph 2 lines 5 12) Women are being patrolled by the
government just to make sure that the women are not breaking the laws and that they are not
walking with another male that is not her family. The laws of Tehran are very strict and it shows

  • 2. Reflective Assignment Assignment Reflective Essay The aim of this reflective essay is to evaluate my professional development whilst undertaking the role of the Developing Intra Operative Practitioner/ Advanced Scrub Practitioner (ASP). Using a reflective model I want to see how my new role affects me as an Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) and any legal implications it has for me as an employee. For this assignment I have decided to use the Gibbs (1988) date model of reflection and will base the assignment on prevention of Surgical Site Infection (SSI) in relation to the operative procedure of a total hip replacement. The Perioperative Care Collaborative (PCC) defines the ASP role as the role undertaken by a registered perioperative practitioner ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fig. 1) Gibbs Model of Reflection. (BCU, 2005) My practical competencies have been obtained through working with a general and orthopaedic surgeon. Whilst working with my clinical supervisor, (a consultant orthopaedic surgeon) we decided it would be beneficial to review orthopaedic wound infections. I chose to concentrate on wound infections during a Total Hip Replacement (THR). Wound infections is a massive subject so I have selected specific areas to look at, which are: * Skin Preparations. * Draping. Surgical site infections (SSI) occur in 2 5% of clean non abdominal surgical procedures (Rothrock, 2007). Staphylococcus epidermidis is the most common cause for SSI in Orthopaedic surgery (NICE, 2008). Guidelines were produced by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) to try and reduce this infection rate and include a preoperative phase, (including hair removal and antibiotic prophylaxis), an intra operative phase and postoperative phase. The majority of SSIs become apparent within 30 days of an operative procedure and most often between the 5th and 10th postoperative days. However, where a prosthetic implant is used, SSI affecting the deeper tissues may occur many years after the initial operation. SSI are measured by definitions from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) or the Surgical Site Infection Surveillance Service, other valid measures based on clinical signs and ... • 3. Pursuit Of Power In Macbeth Seeking power is exhilarating but it can be someone s undoing. The hunt for power can oftentimes lead to different external and internal consequences, which can also depend on the person or environment. Shakespeare s Macbeth focuses on a character who eventually becomes obsessed with the pursuit of power, and trying to control the power that he already has. His power affects him and everyone around him. This act of trying to collect as much power as possible will ruin him, ultimately being his downfall. The real life example of Vladimir Putinshowcases that he and people around him have also suffered the the consequences evident in Macbeth. Many times, the pursuit of power will lead to psychological impacts such as feeling fear and guilt which can show on the outside as delusion and insanity. Macbeth has hallucinations based around guilt and to others he seems delusional and insane. After he hires the three murderers to kill Banquo and Fleance, they come back unsuccessful, only managing to kill Banquo. He is haunted by a hallucination of an apparition of (supposedly) Banquo and says (to GHOST) Thou canst not say I did it. Never shake. Thy gory locks at me. / Gentlemen, rise. His highness is not well (Shakespeare 3.4.61 63). Without being prompted by the ghost, Macbeth responds and another noble is weary of his actions. He kills Banquo because Banquo suspects that Macbeth did something horrible (like killing the king) to become king. Macbeth wants to keep the power that he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With her 10 Teen choice awards and her Latina attitude, she sat opposite me with her blue locks and her winning smile, welcoming me to her office. Demi has recently helped host a contest for the popular companies Acuvue, which hosted a 1 Day contest. Having just heard the news that her song give your heart a break was to be appearing on Glee and that she landed a job on X Factor, made me even more excited that I was going to be in her presence for the next hour or so. My first impression of Demi was that she was quite shy, until she began laughing at the noise my chair made as I nervously sat down. Embarrassing. But I knew that I was going to like this interview. I began asking her about her experience in mentoring the contestants throughout the contest. Her answer was motherly. She expressed that she felt good helping them out, encouraging them to come out of their shell and to really push them towards their dreams. She mentioned her past and how she wished that someone did that for her, then explaining how Acuvue were really sweet to her and how they are the best contacts in the world. With this she smiled, and coffee was brought to her mahogany table. By far the shiniest wooden desk I ve possibly ever seen. I continued the topic of Acuvue and asked if she had the chance, would she ever let fans come backstage with you like she did with her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Analysis of Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman Arthur Miller s play Death of a Salesman was a hit nearly from its debut, and its importance to American literature and theater has not diminished in the over half a century since its first performance in 1949. However, the specific areas of the play that have most intrigued critics have changed over time, as different historical, social, and literary concerns lead critics to come up with different interpretations. By analyzing three different critical responses to Death of a Salesman, it will be possible to not only understand the playbetter, but also actually see how the reception of the play has changed as society s standards of criticism and discourse changed over the intervening years. One is able to see how shifting views on patriarchy lead to a change in the play s reception, and particularly the characterization of Willy Loman, who transforms from a tragic, albeit flawed man into the contemptible lackey of a patriarchal, capitalist society that has little regard for human health or happiness. The first critical response to Death of a Salesman considered here actually comes from 1949, just as the play was first debuting on Broadway. The first reviews of the play were almost unanimously positive, and February, 1949, review in the Los Angeles Times is indicative of the praises it received at the time. The Times review, like most popular reviews, does not bother with literary theory, but rather focuses solely on the plot and reviewing the constituent elements of the ... • 9. Persuasive Essay On Manifest Destiny America is the home of the brave and land of the free. It s the continent known for the start of new beginnings, and renewal of life. You are free to believe what you want, love who you wish, and be you think you are designed to be. Although America may have many benefits that most countries and continents don t, it came at a price. America had to fight her way to the top, and every constitutional right was earned by the endurance and victories it took to make them possible. From a fledgling nation that didn t have much hope to one that had the courage to proclaim Manifest Destiny America definitely earned everything it has to offer. From the beginning America has been a sort of safe haven. From when the pilgrims first decided to cross the Atlantic, due to the dysfunctions of England. At the time England was very unfair to most of its people. By not letting one rank up higher if the where at a lower class, or only letting the eldest of the family inherit any land that the parents owned, leaving nothing to offer their other children. But the biggest reason was that the Church of England wouldn t allow its people to worship God the way the people felt was correct. So therefore they made the decision to cross over to America where they would be free to start over again and worship God freely and how they felt was the accurate and correct way to do so. Although crossing over to America was the only option the pilgrims had if they wished to start anew there would be risks that came with it. The risk of leaving their homes behind knowing that returning wasn t exactly an option. Along with the fact that they didn t have an exact idea of where they were going or where they would end up. They basically risked their lives just to be able to worship God freely and for their families to not have to dwell under England s unfair rulings. After crossing the relentless Atlantic with the tragic fact that some of their people were lost along the way, they officially made it to America. They arrived in the land that was going to be the start of their new lives, but it resulted in more than half of their population dead within the first few weeks of winter. Even though they faced many difficulties they still ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Analysis Of The Poem Twenty One Love Poems By Adrienne... Adrienne Rich was a highly acclaimed twentieth century poet who railed against war and the injustices in the world, and also used imagery that spoke tenderly of love feelings that she sensed were both highly individual for her, but also universal. Twenty One Love Poems were written between 1974 1976 to her lover of the time, and they track the course of the relationship through the sweet beginning stages, the development of mature love, and all the way through to its dissolution due to her partner s seeming inability to come out and admit to her homosexuality at a time in society when relationships between women were not endorsed or supported. The language in these poems is very rich and weaves both ugly city imagery and elegant metaphors and similes together, with the apparent intention of making the reader search inside to see if the images and ideas conveyed by the language can be applied to the reader s own experience of living too. While these poems are highly individualistic and at times very personal, this impressive and moving body of poetic accomplishment also reflects themes to which all human beings can relate. In an interview with Kate Waldman in The Paris Review, Rich herself states that: As long as I can remember I have cared about the timbre, the phrasing of a poetic line. Ever since Snapshots, I ve worked close to the pull and release of voices... The voices may be individual, but they re searching for a shared moral reality. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Maybe they want to make fun of people, but they always make other people feel really bad of themselves. My teachers always told us to not do those awful things to other, but they didn t care about that. They still make fun of other students. I think it is an immoral way to use lie because that would hurt not on the body, but on the spiritual side! If the spiritual gets hurt, it is harder to recover than physique pain! Also, my classmate could destroy a person childhood. It is the fact and grave! Lie can destroy everything not only childhood! Lies can be one kind of believe and have fun. For example, if the father and mother tell their kids about Christmas has Santa Claus, who gives Christmas presents to their kids. Some kids usually believe in Santa Claus. In the future, the kids will know it is not true, but they will think it was a good memory in their childhood! I think it is a good way to use lie. The Ethics of Care stands for an attempt to change moral intelligent talk from the usual focus on justice rights, and fairness, to another system that merges clearly feminine qualities for example focusing too much on relationships, kindness, and the communication between and those for who they take care of. John Tronto argues that the definition of the term ethics of care is confusing due in part to the lack of a central role it plays in moral. He argues that moral is engaged with human goodness, then care would appear to assume a big role in this type of way of thinking. Section One: Modification in production: In early 20th century, Henry Ford formed a business partnership with Alexander Malcomson, and launched an organization with the end goal of assembling cars under the name The Ford Motor Company . Every car was assembled by groups of skillful workers, and, cooperating, these groups aggregately spent more than 12 hours assembling every car (EyeWitness to History, 2005). This procedure was exceptionally costly and tedious, subsequently making it unimaginable for Ford to mass deliver his cars at moderate costs. Said risks come in all shapes and sizes. From economic to health problems, CAFOs are a source of all sorts of impending issues. One of the many dilemmas people face is the danger of antibiotics. Antibiotics are force fed to the animals that reside on industrialized farms to promote faster growth. What many people do not realize is that these antibiotics are in the meat they are eating, and therefore causing an almost invisible, yet extremely detrimental health risk. The use of antibiotics in animals has been seemingly harmless until recently when medical professionals discovered that humans are building up a resistance to antibiotics. Antibiotics have been around for centuries, and they have been working up until recent years. Humans have begun to develop resistance to antibiotics that fight deadly diseases (NIAID). The unnatural feeds, hormones, and excessive quantities of antibiotics used on factory farms put the human population at risk for chronic disease, obesity, and drug resistant bacteria, and pose the threat of major zoonotic disease outbreaks. The previous quote barely skims the surface of the dangers antibiotic resistance is creating. On average, ninety million Americans die from diseases antibiotics once could have defended them from, but they had developed resistance to such antibiotics (Farm Sanctuary). Like Star War s history being created from all of the history its tools is also more imaginary being Lightsabers weapons, planet destroying Deathstars, and Hyperspace transportation. In reverse like the basis of a futuristic history Star Treks is based on what is possible to come like Transporters, phasers, and warp drives. • 40. Analysis Of Legally Blonde In the acclaimed 2001 film, Legally Blonde, the main character, Elle Woods, is a fantastic feminine icon for females. The film represents the struggle of women to prove their ability. Remarkably, Elle never succumbs to those who so strongly see her as being stupid. While others put down her abilities and intelligence, Elle hardly ever doubts herself. She moves through the world with pure confidence. As Callahan, a law professor at Harvard who later selects Elle Woods for his internship quips, it s as if she just woke up one day and said, I m going to law school. She decides on a goal and knows she can attain it, even if others only respond with incredulity or mockery. Legally Blonde has many positive depictions of women and femininity for a 2001 film. Elle doesn t fit the misogynist prospect of submissive femininity. She is loud, emotional, and flamboyant. When she enters a room with the clacking of her bright pink heels, Chihuahua in arm, beaming and effusive, you cannot ignore her. Elle s bubbliness and enthusiasm is often disdained, especially in the legal world, but she continues to express her true self. She is unapologetic about being attractive, sexual and caring about her appearance. She does not stop being stereotypically girly despite that it makes others think she is less legitimate and intelligent. She proves that sexy and smart are not opposing forces. Elle is the perfect example of how being feminine does not mean you submit to patriarchal notion of submissiveness. One of the fundamental themes in Legally Blonde is that a female having an ardor for fashion does not make her dim witted and that fashion insight is not an immanently futile form of knowledge. Elle s fashion knowledge is introduced when a retailer labels her as a dumb blonde, and tries to take advantage of her by ripping off the last season sale tag and selling it to her for full price. Did you see this one? We just got it in yesterday. the retailer told her. Slyly, she asks Is this a low viscosity rayon with half loop top stitching on the hem?. Why yes, it s one of a kind, the retailer replied. Elle uses her fashion knowledge and wittily replies It s impossible to use a half loop topstitch on low viscosity rayon. ... Other cultures tend to use an indirect form of communication where their true response is embedded in the presentation of the message. Accents and fluency problems also cause barriers as it is hard to understand someone with a thick accent or to speak with someone who has little knowledge and working use of a foreign language that another team member might use. The group member might have an idea of how to say something in their head but can t find the words in another language to share the idea (Brett, Behfar, and Kern, 2006). Some individuals on the team might also want to be treated according to their status in the organization. A challenge inherent in multicultural teammates is that by design, teams have a rather flat structure. Team members from some cultures, are uncomfortable on flat teams (Brett, Behfar, and Kern, 2006, p. 124). It is important to recognize the hierarchy structure of the country and how their citizens handle conflict before conducting business with them. Lastly, different cultures have conflicting norms when it comes to decision making. Some cultures like to make decisions quickly while others want to think about the decision and analyze it before coming to a conclusion as far as action to take (Brett, Behfar, and Kern, 2006).
