The 2013 Emerging Markets Supplement to the Edelman Trust Barometer explores trust in emerging market-based businesses in developed markets. It finds:
- Developed market respondents trust emerging market-based multinational corporations (MNCs) significantly less than MNCs headquartered in other developed markets, with a 33-point trust gap. Chinese and Russian MNCs face the largest trust hurdle.
- Respondents in developed markets perceive emerging market businesses, especially those from China and Russia, as having too much control by their national governments.
- Brand awareness and visibility of emerging market corporate leaders is much lower globally than within their domestic markets.
