1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 This report contains the tree identification, assessment and felling proposal for YL-DMW 107
The Construction of Football Pitch at Sik Kong Tsuen, Ha Tsuen, Yuen Long.
1.2 The survey and assessment of existing trees is conducted in accordance with Lands
Administration Office Practice Note No. 7/2007 issued by the Lands Department.
1.3 The tree identification provides a description and assessment of trees according to topographic
survey conducted within the limit of the site boundary. All trees are identified and assessed in
accordance with the name of species, size in height and spread, physical and health conditions,
amenity value, survival rate for transplanting etc.
1.4 Based on the physical assessment of the tree as well as the treeβs inherent properties this report
will provide the recommendation on the status i.e. whether the subject trees should be retained
or felled.
1.5 The topographic survey recorded a total of 252 numbers of existing trees of which 180 numbers
are living trees (inclusive 112 numbers of trees measured under 95mm DBH), 1 number is dead
tree and 171 number are missing trees.
1.6 Base on the physical assessment of the trees as well as the treesβ inherent properties this report
will provide the recommendation on the status for each tree whether is should be retained or
felled.
2.0 THE SITE
2.1 The site is located at Sik Kong Tsuen, Ha Tsuen, Yuen Long, it is a relatively flat site.
3.0 THE WORKS
3.1 The 9 nos. of trees within the boundary of the proposed football pitch shall have to be yield for the
construction works.
3.2 The 9 nos. of trees shall have to be felled.
3.3 All of the 9 affected trees are self-seeded trees of undesirable species (Leucaena leucocephala ι
εζ‘), the felling of these 9 trees do not require Tree Removal Application according to TWB
TCW No. 3/2006.
4. TEAM73HKLtd./2007-109D/May 2012
4.0 GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF EXISTING TREES
4.1 The existing trees within the site boundary are mainly Leucaena leucocephala (ιεζ‘)
Melaleuca leucadendron (η½εε±€), Cassia siamea (ι΅εζ¨), Celtis chinensis (ζ΄ζ¨Ή),
Macaranga tanarius (θ‘ζ‘), Ficus microcarpa(η΄°θζ¦), Melia azedarach(θ¦ζ£ζ¨Ή). Refer to
Tree Survey Schedule for detail information for each tree.
4.2 This report includes the following information on each tree surveyed:
Tree Number Tree numbers are determined by Topographic Surveyors and are
corresponded to the tree survey plan.
Species Tree species are identified with their botanical and Chinese names.
Height Height of trees are measured in meters and are taken from level at
ground to the top of trees.
Trunk Diameter Trunk Diameters (DBH) of trees are measured in millimeters and are
taken at above 1300mm height above ground level.
Crown Spread Crown Spread of trees is measured in meters.
4.3 The health condition and form of each tree are evaluated according to the following criteria:
G Trees of good form, moderate to large size and in good health are classified as good;
F Trees of reasonable form, with few or no visible defects or health problems are
classified as being fair;
P Trees that are of poor form, badly damaged or clearly suffering from decay, dying back
or the effects of very heavy vine growth are classified as poor.
4.4 Each tree is also graded and assessed on its amenity value. The factors that are taken into
consideration are conservation value, functional value, visual impact and aesthetic value. The
assessment of each tree was evaluated according to the following criteria:
H Trees that are rare or protected species, Fung Shui significance or have high visual
impact with good health condition and form are classified as high in amenity value;
M Trees that are common species with average health condition and acceptable form are
classified as medium in amenity value;
L Trees that are common species with poor health and form are classified as low in
amenity value.
4.5 Based on the above criteria and the widening constraints, the trees are considered for the
following actions:
R Trees located on unaffected site areas are recommended to be retained and shall be
protected during site formation and construction in vicinity areas.
T Trees located on affected site areas but have fair to god health condition, form and
amenity value are recommended to be transplanted. Trees that are to be transplanted
shall be relocated to a suitable location on site or held in a nursery until site formation
and construction is completed.
F Trees located on affected site areas but have poor health condition, form and amenity
value are recommended to be felled.
5. TEAM73HKLtd./2007-109D/May 2012
5.0 TREE PRESERVATION PROPOSAL
5.1 This proposal has taken into account all of the 180 nos. of living trees in total within the subject
site. 68 nos. of tree are over 95mm DBH measured at 1.3 meters from ground level and 112 nos.
of tree are below 95mm DBH.
5.2 Trees to be retained
171 trees out of 180 trees are proposed to be retained (refer to Appendix B: Tree Assessment
Schedule). The existing planting level will be maintained. The existing ground around the trees
shall be carefully cultivated and aerated. All local depressed ground shall be leveled with top-soil
and planted with ground-covers.
5.3 No trees shall be transplanted.
5.4 Trees to be felled
There are 9 nos. of living trees proposed to be felled.
6 of the 9 nos. of living trees are below 95mm DBH.
All of the 9 nos. of living trees are Leucaena laucocephala (ιεζ‘). The species of Leucaena
laucocephala are considered as weeds and can be felled and removed without compensation.
(refer to Appendix B: Tree Assessment Schedule). Among the trees to be felled, the species
Leucaena leucocephala is self-seeded and considered to be undesirable for the landscape.
