This document discusses lessons learned from developing BestPortal and BestMap, which aim to improve access to court proceedings for laymen. It describes: 1. BestPortal translates layman descriptions of legal cases to legal terms in order to search court proceedings. BestMap allows vocabulary mappings between legal terms to further aid search across collections. 2. BestMap models mappings as OWL classes that classify resources annotated with different vocabularies. This takes an extensional view of concepts as annotations on resources. 3. Case frames are proposed to structure mappings in BestPortal, focusing mappings on thematic roles for unlawful acts. This could improve the usefulness of BestPortal for assessing similar cases.
