This document discusses inflammatory myopathies and provides information on their classification, diagnosis, and presentation. Some key points include: 1) Dermatomyositis (DM) is often associated with skin lesions which are helpful for diagnosis. Polymyositis (PM) is a diagnosis of exclusion. 2) DM, PM, and inclusion body myositis (IBM) can present differently and be associated with other conditions. 3) IBM is common in the elderly and can present variably, with a characteristic but non-inflammatory muscle biopsy. Screening cancer patients with PET/CT is recommended.
