This document summarizes research on exploiting large-scale web semantics. It discusses using the semantic web as a source of background knowledge for ontology mapping. Two strategies are described for deriving mappings between terms by combining information from multiple online ontologies in the semantic web. An evaluation of using these strategies to map over 1600 terms between the AGROVOC and NALT ontologies achieved a 70% precision rate by drawing from 180 different ontologies in the semantic web. The research demonstrates that the semantic web can effectively be used as a source of background knowledge to address the knowledge acquisition bottleneck and help scale intelligent problem solving.

semantic standardization to interlink primary “spatial data” (GI) from “Open-
StreetMap” (OSM) with repositories of the “Linked Open Data Cloud” (LOD).
Research in natural sciences can generate vast amounts of spatial data, where
Wikidata could be considered as the central hub between more detailed natural
science hubs on the spatial semantic web. Wikidata is a world readable and
writable community-driven knowledge base. It offers the opportunity to collaboratively
construct an open access knowledge graph that spans biology,
medicine, and all other domains of knowledge. In this study, we discuss
the opportunities and challenges provided by exploring Wikidata as a central
integration facility by interlink it with OSM, a popular, community driven
collection of free geographic data. This is empowered by the reuse of terms
and properties from commonly understood controlled vocabularies that
represent their respective well-identified knowledge domains.

Finding knowledge, data and answers on the Semantic Web
Web search engines like Google have made us all smarter by providing ready access to the world's knowledge whenever we need to look up a fact, learn about a topic or evaluate opinions. The W3C's Semantic Web effort aims to make such knowledge more accessible to computer programs by publishing it in machine understandable form.

As the volume of Semantic Web data grows software agents will need their own search engines to help them find the relevant and trustworthy knowledge they need to perform their tasks. We will discuss the general issues underlying the indexing and retrieval of RDF based information and describe Swoogle, a crawler based search engine whose index contains information on over a million RDF documents.
<p>
We will illustrate its use in several Semantic Web related research projects at UMBC including a distributed platform for constructing end-to-end use cases that demonstrate the semantic web’s utility for integrating scientific data. We describe ELVIS (the Ecosystem Location Visualization and Information System), a suite of tools for constructing food webs for a given location, and Triple Shop, a SPARQL query interface which searches the Semantic Web for data relevant to a given query ELVIS functionality is exposed as a collection of web services, and all input and output data is expressed in OWL, thereby enabling its integration with Triple Shop and other semantic web resources.

Visualization of 3D Genome Data
Nils Gehlenborg presented on visualizing 3D genome data. He discussed how Hi-C data captures chromosomal interactions to measure 3D genome structure, but results in massive interaction matrices. Existing tools have limitations in scale, comparison across conditions, and navigation. Gehlenborg demonstrated HiGlass, an interactive multi-resolution viewer for exploring these matrices. He also introduced HiPiler for investigating detected patterns, by filtering, aggregating, and correlating them with other data. HiGlass and HiPiler address challenges of visualizing 3D genome data at different scales and across many samples.

This webinar covers three emerging themes in life science publishing, which will begin to influence the way in which the agricultural researchers share and access knowledge:
Faster dissemination: Publishing scientific articles is often a lengthy process, taking several months or even years from first submission. This prevents the research community and others from being able to act on new knowledge quickly, which is especially serious in emergency situations such as emerging infectious diseases. This webinar will cover two ways of tackling publication delays: preprint servers and post-publication peer review platforms.
Increased access & transparency: Open Access has helped remove access barriers to a vast body of scientific knowledge. Other important research outputs that have historically been difficult to access are starting to be published more frequently such as replications, data, code and referee reports.
Assessment of research: Researches are assessed by their publication record. Journal title and Impact Factor tend to be the default assessment criteria, though there is growing awareness of the disadvantages of these approaches, and alternative measures of quality and impact are gaining ground.

With more and more thesauri, classifications and other knowledge organization systems being published as Linked Data using SKOS, the question arises how best to make them available on the web. While just publishing the Linked Data triples is possible using a number of RDF publishing tools, those tools are not very well suited for SKOS data, because they cannot support term-based searching and lookup.
This webinar presents Skosmos, an open source web-based SKOS vocabulary browser that uses a SPARQL endpoint as its backend. It can be used by e.g. libraries and archives as a publishing platform for controlled vocabularies such as thesauri, lightweight ontologies, classifications and authority files. The Finnish national thesaurus and ontology service Finto, operated by the National Library of Finland, is built using Skosmos.
Skosmos provides a multilingual user interface for browsing and searching the data and for visualizing concept hierarchies. The user interface has been developed by analyzing the results of repeated usability tests. All of the SKOS data is made available as Linked Data. A developer-friendly REST API is also available providing access for using vocabularies in other applications such as annotation systems.
We will describe what kind of infrastructure is necessary for Skosmos and how to set it up for your own SKOS data. We will also present examples where Skosmos is being used around the world.

This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
