Thousands of people, including teenaged
boys and old men, today offered several
funeral prayers for Burhan Wani, a young
militant commander who was killed last
evening, making it the largest gathering in
the region in recent years.
At least four major funeral prayers were
offered at the vast ground near Wani’s
home in Tral town in south Kashmir, while
several other small funeral prayers were
also offered as the steady stream of
mourners kept arriving here despite cur-
few imposed by the authorities.
Even though it was difficult to count the
number of people who attended the funer-
al, but estimates suggest the number
could have been anywhere around two
lakh people or more. The attendance in
Wani’s funeral was one of the largest for a
militant in the past decade.
The funerals of militants have attracted
large attendances in recent years as
insurgency has made a significant come-
back in the last four to five years and
gained several hundred recruits.
Three militants, including Wani, were
killed in a brief gunfight in the Kokernag
area of south Kashmir Wani, who headed
militants of Hizbul Mujahideen in south
Kashmir, was one of the most prominent
militant commander in the region and had
become the poster boy of new-age mili-
tancy.
Those who attended Wani’s funerals had
come from across the Kashmir valley,
including from distant places like Kupwara
and Baramulla, more than 100 km from
here. Many had come on foot and walked
long distances, while hundreds came in
cars, load carriers, tractors and trucks.
Several masked men, believed to be mili-
tants, also came to the ground where
Wani’s body was kept for public viewing
during the day.
The police handed over Wani’s body to
his family late on Friday night and it
arrived at his Sharifabad home at 3 am.
As soon as the body of the militant com-
mander arrived, hundreds of men – most
of them young boys – gathered at Wani’s
home and raised slogans praising mili-
tants.
The first of the several funeral prayers
was offered at 10 am as heavy rush of
people flooded the ground which caused
advancing of the funeral from the sched-
uled time. Wani was later buried in the
afternoon after several rounds of funeral
prayers. Some reports suggesting as
many as 20 big and small funeral prayers
were offered.

nent Brahmin face and could help the party to regain
support of the electorally sizeable and significant com-
munity, whose backing determines the poll outcome on
several seats. The community, a traditional vote bank of
the Congress, shifted allegiance to BJP in the aftermath
of the emergence of Mandir-Mandal politics. A large
chunk of Brahmin votes had also gone to Mayawati’s
BSP in the past, when she gave tickets to many candi-
dates belonging to the community, but now Dikshit’s
entry may swing these votes in favour of Congress in UP
assembly election.
Sheila Dikshit is the daughter in law of, Uma Shankar
Dikshit, a man who started his political career when he
joined the Indian freedom movement, during which he
was imprisoned four times. His great contribution to free-
dom struggle cannot be neglected. He hails from the vil-
lage in Unnao district adjacent to state capital Lucknow.
He pursued his education from Kanpur. Since his student
life he joined the freedom movement and was the
Secretary of the District Congress Committee Kanpur
during the period when Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi was
the President of the Committee. He served the country
as the Home Minister, Health Minister and Governor of
Karnataka and West Bengal. He also served as treasur-
er of All India Congress Committee and Managing
Director of Associated Journals at Lucknow. He founded
a Girls Intermediate College at his village Ugu in the
memory of his mother. He was awarded Padma
Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award in India in
1989, by the Government of India. Sheila’s father in law’s
credentials can benefit her.
The Brahmin community plays a significant role in elec-
tion outcome in central and eastern UP as it is the dom-
inant caste in these areas. Election strategist Prashant
Kishor had recommended that Dikshit should play a
major role in the party’s poll campaign in the State. Right
now, UP needs a leader who can set law and order and
also bring some development in the state. Sheila is
known as a development leader because of her achieve-
ments as Chief Minister of Delhi for three successive
terms.
The Congress, however is yet to decide what role
Priyanka Gandhi (Vadra) will play in the crucial state
polls in 2017, after she decided to entry into active poli-
tics. Priyanka is expected to launch the Congress cam-
paign at a rally in either Lucknow or Allahabad — proba-
bly from Anand Bhawan — in the second week of
August. She will be addressing election meetings in
around 120 constituencies. For all political purposes, she
will be the face of the Congress campaign.

Surat/Tapi : A 27 year old Engineer was recently booked
on charges of Rape, IPC section 376 and was kept in
custody for 14 days. The incident took place in KAPP
(Kakrapar Atomic Power Plant) township where it is
believed that the victim, a 34 year old woman from
Vadodara came down to the township saying that she
had some work and seeked help from the accused to let
her stay at his place for security concerns. She had also
informed him that she would be coming there for 3-4
days and would leave as soon as her works gets com-
pleted.
In attempt to help her, the accused allowed her to stay at
his allotted residence for the time being. If the people of
township were to be believed, after the first day of her
arrival, she started harassing the accused physically,
mentally and emotionally and started blackmailing him to
marry her. He disagreed to her citing that he was already
married and cannot marry her at any cost. She further
more threatened him and said that she would go to the
police if he didn’t obey her illegitimate demands and
would file fake rape charge against him. Not only this,
she also demanded a hefty amount of Rs 30 lakhs in
favor of her return from the accused.

Two Indians kidnapped in Nigeria last month were
released on Saturday, the government announced.
Mangapudi Srinivas and Kaushal Anish Sharma, abduct-
ed on June 29 from Boko in Benue state, were freed. IST,
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup
said. Stating that both released persons had spoken to
their families, Swarup said Sharma’s wife thanked
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj for ensuring his
safe release.
Srinivas and Sharma were on their way to work at the
Benue Cement company, owned by the Dangote Group,
when they were kidnapped.
The Dangote Group is a Nigerian multinational industrial
conglomerate, the largest in West Africa.

Three weeks ago, she had
written to the interior minis-

the Federal Investigation
Authority (FIA) and the
senior superintendent of
Islamabad asking them to
provide security to her,

She had said her life is in
danger and that she is
being threatened via calls
on her mobile number and
that she did not have secu-
rity measures installed in
her home, the paper said.
Qandeel was media sen-
sation and unbelievably
bold and was also consid-
ered highly controversial.
She shot to fame in
Pakistan in 2014 after a
video of her pouting for the
camera. She became
famous through her tire-
less self-promotion and
suggestive “selfies” posted
on social media and had
amassed tens of thou-
sands of followers.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that Pakistan will
observe July 19 as a ‘black day’ to protest against
‘killings’, referring to those who died during protests after
the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan
Wani in Kashmir.
The special Cabinet meeting decided to observe nation-
wide black day on July 19 to mark complete solidarity
with Kashmiris. Sharif termed the “movement of
Kashmiris as a movement of freedom”.
“Pakistan would continue to extend moral, political and
diplomatic support for Kashmiris in their just struggle for
right to self-determination,” the prime minister said.
“The Prime Minister termed Burhan Wani as martyr of
independence movement,” Radio Pakistan reported.
He said, the “Indian brutalities will give impetus to the
freedom struggle and Kashmiri people will get their right
to self-determination for which the whole Pakistani nation
is standing behind them.”
Speaking in the wake of the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen
terrorist Burhan Wani in an encounter in Anantnag,
Sharif had said that the plebiscite should be held so that
the people of Jammu and Kashmir can decide whether
they wanted to be with India or align with Pakistan.
While voicing “concern and deep sorrow” over the killing
of Burhan Wani, Sharif had said the “massacre of citi-
zens by Indian forces and use of brutal force against
Kashmir is regrettable”.
He was referring to the death of people in Kashmir in
clashes with security forces, post Wani’s killing.

the important highlights regarding FTAs and FEEs from
tourism during the month of June, 2016.
Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs):
•FTAs during the Month of June, 2016 were 5.50 lakh as com-
pared to FTAs of 5.12 lakh during the month of June, 2015 and
5.02 lakh in June, 2014. There has been a growth of 7.3% in
June, 2016 over June, 2015.
•FTAs during the period January- June, 2016 were 41.86 lakh
with a growth of 8.9% as compared to the FTAs of 38.45 lakh
with a growth of 3.7% in January- June, 2015 over January-
June, 2014.
•The Percentage share of Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) in
India during June, 2016 among the top 15 source countries
was highest from USA (22.20%), followed by Bangladesh
(20.69%), UK (6.84%), Malaysia (3.90%), Sri Lanka (3.20%),
Australia (2.63%), China (2.62%), Canada (2.60%), Japan
(2.49%), Singapore (2.47%), France (2.35%), Germany
(2.26%), Nepal (2.17%), Pakistan (1.33%) and Rep. of Korea.

Kodigehalli police have
solved a sensational double
murder case of a retired
employee of GKVK and his
wife, by arresting a 22-year-
old assailant who is a Cab
driver by profession .
How police detected the sen-
sational case.
* Murder took place on 2nd
July 2016 came to light on 5th
July as neighbours noticed
the doors were shut from 2
days as the elderly women
used to draw Rangoli infront
of her house daily.
* Elderly son of couple rushed
to house and opened the
doors and found his father
lying in pool of blood and her
mother was found lying in
pool of blood in first floor.
* Tension and fear among the
neighbours in the locality was
prevailed after the murder.
* Local police was informed
and rushed to spot with
Senior officials and finger
print experts were pressed.*
There was no clue in the case
as it was suspected a known
person has committed the
crime but there were no clue.
* Three special teams were
formed in which 3 ACPs,6
PIs,6 PSIs,1ASI,with 40 crime
staff were swung into action.
* About 200 persons were
questioned by the team all
their family members, rela-
tives, friends, neighbours with
customers were questioned
by the team.
* Circumstantial clue by a
neighbour who noticed the
assailant coming out of the
house on the day of crime
gave breakthrough in the
case.

Venkatesh is a cab driver. He
bought a knife and used it to
murder the elderly couple. He
looted the mangalasutra and
gold in the house and it was a
murder for financial gain and
with impeccable efforts the
team has detected the case

persons, I knew Venkatesh as

my house a couple of times in
presence of my parents he
was a driver but has quit his

found dead in mysterious
condition with their throats slit
at their residence in
Byatarayanapura near
Yelahanka, and the murder

Kodigehalli police station
under murder for gain.

and gathered information
from them. During investiga-
tion our team gathered cir-
cumstantial evidence based
on the evidence our team
arrested Venkatesh from his
home town as during the
course of investigation a
neighbour noticed him com-
ing out from the house.
After arresting the accused
Venkatesh confessed the
crime and said that he is a
cab driver by profession and
a close friend of couple's
younger son Prithviraj had
come in contact with
Venkatesh as he was working
with Nishanth, who is a friend
of Prithviraj. Nishanth often
used to come to couples' res-
idence to meet Prithviraj and
Venkatesh was dropping him.
Meanwhile, Venkatesh came
to know that the couple were
into chit fund business and
had asked money as he was
facing financial problem. He
had approached them for
money and did not get.
Venkatesh noticed
Muniyappa (68), a retired
Assistant Controller of GKVK,
and his wife Varalakshmi liv-
ing in a duplex house in
Byatarayanapura while their
three sons lived separately in
various parts of the city.
Venkatesh, who was heavily
in debt, noticed that
Varalakshmi used to wear a
lot of gold ornaments and
Muniyappa was involved in
huge money transactions
through his money lending
business.
Venkatesh decided to elimi-
nate the couple to clear his
debts. As per the plan, on July
2nd, he visited the couple’s
house on the pretext of dis-
cussing about a prospective
bride for their younger son,as
the couple were searching for
a bride for Prithviraj and he
gained entry into the house in
the pretext of giving a detail of
a bride.
When Muniyappa opened the
door, Venkatesh hugged him
and stabbed repeatedly.After
few minutes of conversation,
Venkatesh overpowered
Muniyappa and slit his throat
with a knife which he had
bought from a hardware shop
from his hometown. he then
went to the first floor and
stabbed Varalakshmi who
was busy in her daily chore
and rob her managalasutra
and killed her in similar man-
ner. Venkatesh then removed
the gold valuables from
Varalakshmi’s body and ran-
sacked the house to look for
cash and gold. He soon
escaped with the valuables
after locking the house from
the outside and our team
grilled him and based on his
statement we have recovered
the gold valuables which he
had pawned for Rs.1,02,000
to clear his debts.

AAI has filed two cheque bouncing cases against

Mumbai: After topping the business optimism ranking for
the last two quarters globally, India slipped to the third
place in the April-June quarter of 2016, the latest Grant
Thornton International Business Report (IBR) says.
Delays in key reforms like GST, non-resolution of tax dis-
putes, banking issues due to stressed assets resulting in
weak outlook for banks and need for significant recapital-
isation of public sector banks are some of the main con-
cerns of corporate India that have impacted the overall
business optimism, according to the report.
This is a clear signal that while there is optimism in the
market and great business opportunity in India, the issue
that is bothering investors is the slow progress on key
reforms, simplification of tedious government processes
and regulatory uncertainties which is impacting India's
ranking," said Harish HV, Partner - India Leadership

supplier Mother Dairy
announced hike in milk
prices by Re 1 each for
both half litre and one litre
packs from Saturday due
to higher procurement
prices.
Mother Dairy, which sells
more than 30 lakh litres of
milk per day in Delhi-
NCR, has increased the
prices after 24 months.
Early last month, dairy
major Amul hiked milk
prices by Re 1 per pouch
of both half and one litre
in Delhi-NCR.
"Mother Dairy raises its
milk prices in Delhi-NCR
for key polypack milk vari-
ants by Re 1 with effect
from July 16, 2016,"
Mother Dairy said in a
statement.
As per the new rates, full
cream milk will be avail-
able at Rs 49 per litre,
while toned milk at Rs 39
and double-toned at Rs
35 per litre.
For a half litre pack, the
prices of full-cream milk
has been increased to Rs
25 from Rs 24, while the
rate of toned milk has
been raised to Rs 20 from
Rs 19 and double-toned
milk to Rs 18 from Rs 17.
However, the prices of
bulk vended milk, com-
monly referred to as
token milk and cow milk,
which comprises of over
30% of its total milk sales,
will remain unchanged,
the company said. Token
milk price remain
unchanged at Rs 36/litre,
while cow milk will contin-
ue to be sold at Rs 20 for
half litre.
