The document summarizes the issues around the odd-even vehicle restriction plan implemented in Delhi to tackle air pollution. It discusses how the first day of the plan saw reduced traffic but many exemptions were given. It notes that while the plan was a trial, reducing pollution requires long-term strategies like limiting open burning and regulating generators in addition to vehicles. Reducing vehicles alone cannot clear Delhi's air, and the odd-even system may not be sustainable daily given exemptions and availability of public transport. Overall, the plan saw initial success but sustained efforts are needed to truly tackle Delhi's alarming air pollution levels.

In a May 9, 2024 paper, Juri Opitz from the University of Zurich, along with Shira Wein and Nathan Schneider form Georgetown University, discussed the importance of linguistic expertise in natural language processing (NLP) in an era dominated by large language models (LLMs).
The authors explained that while machine translation (MT) previously relied heavily on linguists, the landscape has shifted. “Linguistics is no longer front and center in the way we build NLP systems,” they said. With the emergence of LLMs, which can generate fluent text without the need for specialized modules to handle grammar or semantic coherence, the need for linguistic expertise in NLP is being questioned.

As we know that poverty is the biggest sin
to our country. Poverty is a widespread
problem in India and various methods
have been proposed to measure it. The
official measure of Indian government
before 2005 was based on food security
and it was defined from per capita expen-
diture for a person to consume enough
calories and able to pay for associated
essentials to survive.
The world bank has similarly revised its
definations and benchmarks to measure
since 1990, with $1.25 per day income on
purchasing power parity as in use from
2005 – 2013. Some semi – economic and
non- economic indices has been pro-
posed to measure poverty in India.
Poverty in India is historical reality. From
late 19th century to early 20th century
under British coloniel rule, poverty in india
intensified , peaking in 1920s. Famines
and diseases killed millions each time.
The main reason for undeveloped India is
poverty & illiteracy. After India gained
independence in 1947 everything
changed but there was no reduction in
poverty in India. Poverty is one of the
main problems in India. Today we are liv-
ing in 21st century but poverty is still
there. Today we can witness what kind
problems are faced by poor people. They
even don’t have proper shelter, no proper
clothes to wear, no food to eat . Today due
poverty poor children can’t study. Due to
high poverty they are unable to have a
bright future.
In 2012, the Indian government stated
that 21.9% of it’s population is below offi-
cial poverty limit. The world bank in 2011
based on 2005 PPPs international com-
parison program estimated 23.6% of
Indian population or about 276 million
people lived in below 1.25$ per day on
purchasing parity. Due to poverty in India
today we see various children who should
study and perform other childhood activi-
ties are being forced to perform child
labour activities and various girls are been
sent to prostitute rackets and some girls
compromise with it due to poverty. So it’s
the duity & responsibility of our govern-
ment to work on how to finish this problem
from our country.

Questions are arising that whome
we can call a journalist. There are
various persons in india and out
side india who do write articles
and are sending these articles to
News agencies,can we call these
people Journalists?If we will call
these people journalists then how
can we differentiate these people
from professionals.The person
who always remains buzy with
their work,because every journlist
wants to take the top position in
his medium weather that is print
media or Electronic media.profes-
sional journalist can be recog-
nised easily because He write or
Reports everyday to his
medium.journalists are known by
various names like Reporters,fea-
ture writers,special corspon-
dents,Sub-editors,Assitent-editors
and News editors.journalists have
unique style of working like wise
world is around them.There are
different beats in news reporting
like political beat,Business
beat,crime beat,sports beat,enter-
tainment beat,society beat,eco-
logical beat etc. There are sperate
reporters for every beat.
Journalism is an uprising
carrier, every day is different in this
field because every day some-
thing new is happining,what so
ever new is happning in our day
to day life which is worthy for
masses is News.Journalists have
the job to get the News, give the
News and make the News.first of
all journalists do know the News
because they most often remain in
the fields.sometimes common
persons of the society don't know
what happned in
Delhi,Mumbai,j&k,calcutta,pune
etc it is the Press who are high-
lighting these issues on
Newspapers,Magazines,Radio,Te
levision and newmedia nowa-
days.Journalists should remain
confident.They must be ready to
face the strangers and collect the
information from them.They must
knock the doors where from they
can earn the Shulter and food.
In 21th century journalism is
increasing rapidly and it is provid-
ing lot of oppertunities to the new
youthes.Nowadays people are
listning to Radio and watching
Television as compared to earlier
times.Nowadays News is spread-
ing to masses quickly because
new technologies have replaced
the tradational version.In earlier
times Newspapers were printed
once in the mounth and they were
using only black and white colours
those days,but presently we are
getting colured Newspapers on
daily baises.we can click the cell-
phone at any time and we can get
the update. There is a much com-
petation in this field.
Reports should be based on reali-
ty.Every journalist must know how
to behave with public.News waits
for none and sometimes a Big
News can happen when you don't
have thought about that,for that
news a journalist must be
ready.Journalist must be Humble.I
have choosed this field so that my
articles/reports should be based
on facts and figures.There should
be a difference between right and
wrong in my articles.i want to
highlight the issues of both Ruler
and Urban areas,i want to high-
light the issues of my society. As a
journalist one should know the
fundamental qualities of News
and Elements of News (5W'S 1H).

Social activist Anna Hazare dashed off another letter to Prime
Minister Narendra Modi, reminding him of his unfulfilled poll
promises and said there is “no visible difference” between his
government and the previous Congress- led UPA regime.
Hazare reminds Modi about his promise during the 2014 Lok
Sabha campaign like bringing back black money and building
a corruption-free India.
He wrote several letters to Modi after he was sworn in as a PM
of India but all his letters made headlines in media but ignored
by the government.
As a common man of this country, even we all expect Modi
should deliver the promises he made for gaining the votes.
Moreover, there are many crucial issues where BJP needs to
be serious and committed. The Uniform Civil Code would basi-
cally cover all the personal laws into one unified set of a secu-
lar law that would apply to each and every citizen of India
regardless of his/her religious community.
Government should ensure the cleanliness, purity and uninter-
rupted flow of the River Ganga on priority. In addition, a mas-
sive ‘Clean Rivers Programme’ will be launched across the
country driven by people’s participation. Set up a National
Optical-Fibre Network up to the village level; and Wi-Fi zones
in public areas. BJP has committed to initiate a mission mode
project to create 50 tourist circuits that are affordable and built
around themes like: a.) Archaeological and Heritage, b.)
Cultural and Spiritual, c.) Himalayan, d.) Desert, e.) Coastal, f.)
Medical (Ayurveda and Modern Medicine), etc. Set up a task
force to initiate the process of tracking down and bringing back
black money stashed in foreign banks and offshore accounts.
Improve Centre-State relations, ensure fiscal autonomy of
states while urging financial discipline and create ‘Regional
Councils of States’, with common problems and concerns, with
a view to seeking solutions that are applicable across a group
of states. Set up the Ministry of North-Eastern Region.
Empower Ministry with a broader charter and non-lapsable
funds for the rapid development of the region. Complete all
pending fencing work along the India-Bangladesh and India-
Myanmar border, stepping up border security. Take measures
for the safety of North-Eastern students studying across the
country including setting up Hostels for North-Eastern students
at various educational centres. Address the issue of infiltration
and illegal immigrants in the Northeast region on a priority
basis. Special emphasis on massive infrastructure develop-
ment, especially along the Line of Actual Control in Arunachal
Pradesh and Sikkim.

The year 2015 was a chal-
lenging one for the agricul-
ture sector. It was the sec-
ond consecutive year of
hardships for farmers
owing to drought and
inclement weather in sev-
eral parts of the country
highlighting the urgency to
address issues of climate
change. The concerns are
carried forward in the com-
ing year as currently rabi
sowing of wheat is lower
by 20.23 lakh hectares
than last year , the prices
of pulses and vegetables
continue to rule high and
towards sugarcane grow-
ers stand at Rs. 5406
crore.
Southwest monsoon was
14 per cent below normal
of the Long Period
Average in 2015 on the
back of 12 per cent defi-
ciency in the previous year
affecting the kharif crop.
The northeast monsoon
that followed played havoc
in Tamil Nadu and adjoin-
ing region with unprece-
dented floods wiping out
entire paddy and cash
crops.
While the production of
pulses and oilseeds is per-
petually short of demand
for several years now, this
time there are concerns
about the output of cere-
als. Although the country
is surplus in foodgrains as
of now, experts point out
that with a legal commit-
ment to provide at least
62.5 million tonnes of sub-
sidized foodgrains in the
Targetted Public
Distribution System under
the National Food Security
Act, farmers are keeping
their fingers crossed for
good weather conditions
to achieve a good harvest.
Sowing is still going on so
hopes are high.
At least nine states have
declared drought-hit dis-
tricts this year. These are
Karnataka, Chhattisgarh ,
Madhya Pradesh,
Maharashtra, Odisha,
Andhra Pradesh, Uttar
Pradesh, Telangana and
Jharkhand. Tamil Nadu, of
course, has flood-hit dis-
tricts. Parts of Haryana,
Uttar Pradesh,
Maharashtra, Karnataka
and Andhra Pradesh had
been hit by drought during
2014-15 as well.
The fourth advance esti-
mates of foodgrains pro-
duction in 2014-15 at
252.68 is 12.36 million
tonnes lower than the out-
put of 265.04 million
tonnes in 2013-14. This is
due to a 6.91 million
tonnes decline in the pro-
duction of wheat . Rice
too was slightly lower.
Pulses output went down
from 19.24 million tonnes
to 17.20 million in tonnes
in 2014-15 leading to the
crisis of unprecedented
price rise in these com-
modities. Tur prices, for
instance, jumped up from
Rs. 75 per kilogram a year
ago to Rs. 199 per kg and
are still not under control.
Not just tur and urad,
major pulses are selling in
the retail market at almost
Rs. 140 per kilogram.
Efforts to nail in hoarders
and blackmarketeers did
not yield the desired
effect.
During the year the gov-
ernment raised the mini-
mum support price of
major pulses by Rs. 275
per quintal. Time and
again the government has
had to intervene in the
market for onions and
pulses this year. Even the
prices of potato and toma-
toes have ruled high this
year not to talk of the reg-
ular vegetables and fruits.
At the onset of the season
peas were selling for as
high as Rs 110 per kilo-
gram.
To tide over the situation
the government has set up
a Price Stabilisation Fund
with a corpus of Rs. 500
crore. Some of the funds
were released this year for
subsidised sale of pulses
for states who came up
with innovative schemes
to provide pulses at afford-
able prices to Public
Distribution System bene-
ficiaries.
With production estimates
for 2015-16 still lower than
the bumper crop of 2013-
14, the government has
decided to create a buffer
stock of 1.5 lakh tonnes of
tur and urad dals which
will be procured directly
from farmers at market
rates. To mitigate the suf-
fering from drought, the
government came up with
several measures includ-
ing taking 50 per cent of
the damaged crop area
into consideration rather
than mere 33 per cent and
raising the relief amount
by 50 per cent.
Reportedly Maharashtra’s
Marathwada region, which
has been reeling under
drought for last four years,
saw the highest number of
suicides by distressed
farmers this year. The cen-
tral government has given
a drought relief of Rs.
3050 crore to the state, fol-
lowed by Rs. 2033 crore to
Madhya Pradesh, Rs.
1540 crore to Karnataka
and Rs. 1672 crore to
Chhattisgarh. The money
will be given from the
National Disaster Relief
Fund. Union Agriculture
Minister Radha Mohan
Singh blamed states for
tardy implementation of
drought relief and delay in
sending memoranda of
demand which led to farm-
ers’ distress.
“Implementation is in the
hands of states,’’ the
Minister said.

Delhi: Advances in Basic sciences
would be essential for applications.
This was repeatedly emphasized
by two Nobel laureates-Prof David
Gross and Prof Serge Haroche,
both Noble prize winners in
Physics, as they delivered Nobel
laureates talk at the 103rd Indian
Science Congress in Mysore last
evening. They explained as to how
fundamental research in quantum
physics had lead to applications in
the field of electronics, medicine,
with further prospects for quantum
computers in years to come.
``Transistors did not come from
entertainment companies. Nuclear
technology was not discovered by
oil companies with large budgets
seeking alternate sources of ener-
gy, but by men like Einstein’’, Prof
David Gross pointed out. He
emphasized that science should
also be pursued for sheer curiosity
and said that a nation which did not
encourage its youth to pursue basic
science would lose brilliant minds
to other nations where they were
encouraged.
Nobel Laurete David J Gross said
that the Prime Minister Shri
Narendra Modi’s Make in India slo-
gan requires Invent in India for
newer technologies, and for that
you have to Discover in India.
Pointing out that for Make in India,
its products will have to be compet-
itive as there are already superior
and cheaper goods being manufac-
tured in Korea and other countries,
he felt.
Prof. Gross said thatIndia has enor-
mous potential and could do better
by more investments in basic sci-
ences and research and develop-
ment.
The Nobel Laureate said that China
has overtaken the US in the Gross
Domestic Product (GDP) last year
and India is projected to do so by
2045. ``In 2000, both India and
China invested 0.8 per cent of their
GDP in science and research. By
2010, China’s investment had risen
to close to two percent, while
India’s was still at 0.8. Now, India
has moved up to 0.9 while China’s
investment is 2.8 per cent.
Similarly, Brazil, another emerging
economy invests over 2 per cent of
GDP in science and research,
South Korea 3.7. Most European
countries too invest around 3.7 per-
cent”, he said.
He felt that the Indian scientific and
research apparatus was bureau-
cratic, rigid and ineffective and not
up to standards of a country that
would like to increase its invest-
ments. ``Lots have to change in
how you manage science. I under-
stand politicians; they are not sure
how the money allocated will be
spent. It is up to you (scientific com-
munity) now to change how those
funds will be used’’, he asserted.
Prof. Gross said that he would like
to witness India progressing well in
years to come. Prof David Gross
an American particle physicist
and string theorist was awarded
Nobel Prize in 2004 in Physics
along with Frank Wilczekand and
David Politzer, for their discovery
of asymptotic freedom. Prof
Serge Haroche is a French physi-
cist who was awarded the 2012
Nobel Prize for Physics jointly
with David J.

Intermittent gunfire contin-
ued late into the night on
Sunday - the second
straight day of operations
at the Pathankot air base.
A fifth terrorist was neu-
tralized today, hunt is on
for the other one. Prime
Minister Narendra Modi,
who was in Bengaluru to
open a yoga conference,
is chairing a meeting with
the National Security
Advisor, foreign secretary
and other officials on
Pathankot.
Here are the 10 latest
developments in this
story:
1.Admitting that two terror-
ists had been holed up at
the Pathankot base since
yesterday, Air Force
authorities said they
hoped to wrap up the
operation by evening.
2."In the morning, we
realised that two more ter-
rorists were there. The
operation at a mature
state but the confirmation
can be given only on
recovering the bodies,"
said Air Marshal Anil
Khosla.
Foreign minister Sushma
Swaraj met a group of
diplomats to chalk out a
strategy on Pakistan.
Coming a week after PM
Modi's "spontaneous" visit
to Pakistan, the attack has
triggered a debate over
ties with the neighbouring
country. Gunfire can still
he heard from the air base
-- from where Russian-
made fleet of MiG-21 fight-
er jets and Mi-35 attack
helicopters fly. The num-
ber of casualties has gone
up to 7, with three more
security personnel dying
in hospital. This morning,
an officer died in a blast
from an Improvised
Explosive Device during
combing operations.
Twenty security personnel
have been injured. Among
the weapons recovered
were AK 47s, mortars,
grenade launchers and
Global Positioning System
devices. The probe has
been handed over to the
National Investigation
Agency. Opposition
Congress has said India
should reassess its posi-
tion on Pakistan. Former
chief minister of Jammu
and Kashmir Omar
Abdullah called the attack
"the first major challenge
to PM Modi's bold
Pakistan gambit."
The gun-battle started at
3.30 am on Saturday. The
armed forces - which had
secured the compound
following intelligence
warning - had detected the
advent of terrorists with
the help of aircraft using
thermal imaging capability.
The army wrested control
of the base yesterday with
the help of attack helicop-
ters, mine-proof and bul-
let-proof personnel carri-
ers. Four terrorists were
killed yesterday after the
day-long gun-battle.
Vital air force assets --
MiG-21 Bison fighters and
Mi-35 attack helicopters -
were safe following
advance intelligence
about the attack.
With seven security per-
sonnel being martyred -
including Commonwealth
Gold Medallist Fatheh
Singh and Garud
Commando Gursevak
Singh -- the terror attack
at Pathankot air base has
exacted a heavy toll
despite the advance infor-
mation about it.

The City is known for the use of technology,
so the police should also be tech savvy and
everyone in the department should be able
to operate computers, said Home Minister

The minister was speaking after inaugurat-
ing three new police stations in the City. The
stations are at Sanjay Nagar,
Gangammanagudi and Jnanabharathi. The

Subramanyapura.
Speaking to reporters after the inaugura-
tion, he said, The State Government has
been framing new policies to build homes
for police personnel In the city. In the first
phase of our policy, the government has
built 40 homes for police personnel in
Gangamangudi . We have •launched a poli-
cy called Gruha Today. The government
focuses in giving priority to building homes
for police personnel in the city. "Bengaluru
is the most popular City in the world and it
is well known for software companies. To
suit the modern City, the government has
helped in building modern police stations.
Most of the old police stations have been
taken on rent or lease. So, we are con-

land.” After inaugurating the residential
quarters at Subramanyapura, he said that
when he took over as minister, he visited
several police quarters and found that the
residents did not have proper basic ameni-
ties.
"The department works round the clock and
we should help them by providing good
houses with all requirements. The depart-
ment has received over 1,000 applications
for 40 houses. After seeing the demand, we
will discuss with the government and con-
struct 11,000 more houses in the State. Out
of these, around 3,000 houses will be con-
structed in and around the City,” the minis-
ter said.
The minister said policemen should adopt
themselves to the changing times and
develop a friendly approach when interact-
ing with the public. The police should make
an individual feel free when he visits a sta-
tion.
The minister lauded the efforts of the City
police stating that there is a slight reduction
in crime. He said, "Chain-snatching inci-
dents have dropped, as the police put in
huge efforts to nab the snatchers. The
department is looking at restructuring a few
jurisdictions. Some stations record high
number of crimes and the jurisdiction of
such police stations will restructured to help
the police control the crime. Every station
should maintain database of fingerprints of
the offenders. This will help solve crimes
faster,” he said.
Home Min To Adopt ODD -Even Plan.
When asked about the odd-even plan for
traffic being tried in Delhi, he said, "It looks
like it was a success in Delhi. We will dis-
cuss with transport officials and learn more
about the plan. We will see if it can be
implemented here. But certainly, this will
help decongest traffic.”

A thousand splendid runs
Mumbai: Mumbai cricketer Pranav
Dhanawade created history after becom-
ing the first batsman to score 1000 runs
in a single innings. Pranav remained
unbeaten on 1009 in an interschool tour-
nament against Arya Gurukul school
organised by Mumbai Cricket Association
(MCA). The 15 year old teenager is the
son of an autorickshaw driver. He
achieved this feat by facing 323 deliver-
ies at a strike rate of 312.38 which includ-
ed 129 fours and 59 sixes. He played for
a total of 395 minutes. Thus Pranav has
become an inspiration for youth who aim
to make it big in the cricketing world.
The epic knock ended when his school
declared at 1465, which is also a world
record. His school went past Victoria’s
1107 against New South Wales made
way back in 1926. Pranav now holds the
record for the highest individual score in
any form of cricket, bettering AEJ Collins’
628 not out for Clark’s House against
North Town in 1899 in the UK.
“My teachers have helped me a lot and
now I want to play the Ranji Trophy. I
have always been a big-hitter. When I
started I never thought about breaking
the record. The focus was never that I
just played my natural game which is to
attack from the word go,” said Pranav
Dhanawade.
Pranav’s father Prashant Dhanawade
said, “We are really happy that he breaks
every record. It’s not been an easy jour-
ney.”
“There have been lots of problems,
because we don’t have a ground in
Kalyan, there’s no cricket development
there. It’s only played in Mumbai. Maybe
after he completes his 1000 runs, the tal-
ent in Kalyan also comes into focus.
There are no sponsors as well. Hope all
these problems get fixed,” he added.
Congress is widely humili-
ated by its own mouth-
piece in Maharashtra fea-
turing articles that have
quizzed Jawaharlal Nehru,
the party’s biggest icon,
and also made controver-
sial comments on Sonia
Gandhi. Though the article
does not bear the name of
the writer, has been pub-
lished in this month’s issue
of ‘Congress Darshan’
Hindi edition as a tribute
piece to mark Patel’s
death anniversary on
December 15. While
Mumbai Congress chief
and the journal’s editor
Sanjay Nirupam, who is
also Mumbai Congress
Chief, has taken the blame
for the articles, his loyalists
complained that his
detractors had deliberately
leaked the matter to the
press to target him.
However, the source from
the Congress Darshan
magazine said on the con-
dition of anonymity, that it’s
Nirupam who wrote the
article, as he is former edi-
tor of Hindi Saamna and
his language of Hindi is
way ahead of Sudhir
Joshi. You can make out
the language of the write
up after reading it. Though,
Nirupam apologise but he
is feeling stuck in
Congress party and he is
making mood to join right
wing political party.”
“Congress is going
through bad phase right
now; Nirupam is seeing no
political future here. With
this type of stunt, he is try-
ing to gain some attention
from rival parties and at
some extend he has suc-
ceeded in it,” added the
source.
Editorial board member
and party leader Bhushan
Patil informed that the
journal’s editor Sudhir
Joshi had been sacked.
Nirupam, also said that he
had plans to revamp the
editorial board and would
personally monitor the edi-
torial content published in
Congress Darshan.
In a huge embarrassment
for the Congress on its
Foundation Day, articles in
its mouthpiece on Monday
criticized Jawaharlal
Nehru’s policy on Kashmir,
and alleged that Sonia
Gandhi’s father was a “fas-
cist soldier”, leaving the
party squirming. Congress
Darshan refers to the alle-
gation that Sonia Gandhi’s
father was a member of
the Italian fascists that lost
to the Russians in the
World War.
“Sonia Gandhi’s father
Stephano Maino was a for-
mer fascist soldier,” it
alleged.
When AV asked strong
Congress supporter, Sumit
Kashyap Jha about the
article he said, “Though, I
haven’t gone through the
magazine article it doesn’t
matter. Sonia father’s past
shouldn’t be an issue to
ponder upon at the far end
of her career. She has
done enough on her own
in last 45 years in India
and in 18 years of public
life. What here matters is
her conduct, her ideas, her
policies, not what her
father did years ago. At
that time, almost everyone
in Germany and Italy sup-
ported people like Hitler
and Musolini.
Nirupam knows it all?
