eldom does it happen
that life brings forth
an individual who
does things in his or
her own style and who
brings about a radical
change in whatever field the
said individual happens to be
functioning in. However, such
individuals are extremely rare
when it comes to politics. But 72
years ago, on September 17, 1950,
a child was born in the house of
a tea-seller in Gujarat who, as
time progressed changed the po-
litical landscape of the nation
and had to his distinction a his-
torical achievement of staying
in various political offices for
over two decades! Needless to
say, this individual, who has
never lost an election, is Prime
Minister Narendra Modi, who
has, in his eighth year as PM,
achieved what his predecessors
had long dreamt of taking the
nation to. Modi has emerged as
the Number One world leader; a
leader who has gone past even
more ‘powerful’ leaders, wheth-
er in economic or military
might, when it comes to public
approval.
For the third time in a row,
recently PM Modi was yet again
crowned the undisputed ‘World
Leader’ passing the likes of
American President Joe Biden,
Italian Prime Minister Mario
Draghi, Mexican President An-
dres Manuel Lopez Obrador or
Canadian Prime Minister Jus-
tin Trudeau.
It is Modi’s warm-hearted de-
meanor and the ability to take
along even the opposing na-
tions along over issues that
benefit the world, that has
earned him the respect and ad-
miration of his peers. His
warm, long hugs to these peers
seem to have been the thaw that
was needed in international re-
lations. But Modi has not been
all rosy, rather it is his carrot
and stick approach that has
resonated with the other world
leader, especially those from
the western block.
With an approval rating of 75
per cent, according to the re-
cent Morning Consult survey,
Modi’s popularity is sure
to stay for a long time
since it does not depend
on lip service and giv-
ing merely populist
schemes, but because
his government has en-
sured that the benefit of
populist schemes actu-
ally reach till the last end
of the society
.
To the PM, who is
also a global icon who
works nearly 20 hours
a day, First India
wishes many many
happy returns of the
day. Happy Birth-
day Mr PM!

First India Bureau
Pune: The Pune Mu-
nicipal Corporation
(PMC) has directed
Ganesh mandals to
dismantle pandals
and chariots as soon
as possible in order to
avoid obstructions on
roads and footpaths.
Even though the
Ganesh festival ended a
week ago, pandals on
some roads are yet to be
removed. Citizens from
across the city have
urged the Ganesh man-
dals to ensure that pe-
destrians do not face
obstacles and hardships
owing to the pandals.
The civic body offi-
cials have started con-
ducting site visits to
check if the pandals
erected by the mandals
have been dismantled.
A senior PMC official
stated that adequate
time has been given to
the mandals to clear the
pandals and the decora-
tion material. Now, of-
ficials will begin spot
visits.
Over 1,500 mandals
had approached the
PMC for permission to
put up pandals. Most
pandals were erected on
the roadside.
According to a Shiva-
jinagar resident, the
chariots used for the
immersion procession
are still parked on the
roadside or on foot-
paths. The authorities
must act against illegal
pandals and those occu-
pying additional space.
Workers of Ganesh
mandals, on the other
hand, said that steps
have been taken to re-
move the pandals.
Prashant Badhe, a func-
tionary at a Ganesh
mandal in Shivajina-
gar, said that their pan-
dal was dismantled
within a couple of days
after the immersion
procession.
Maha government in talks
with Vedanta since January
First India Bureau
Mumbai: Amid a row
over a Vedanta-Fox-
conn semiconductor
project moving out to
Gujarat from Maha-
rashtra, it has been
revealed that Chief
Minister Eknath
Shinde had invited
the company to sign a
Memorandum of Un-
derstanding (MoU)
with the government
on July 29 to set up
the facility near
Pune.
A senior government
official said Vedanta
had begun talks with
the previous Maha Vi-
kas Aghadi (MVA) gov-
ernment from January
this year over the pro-
posed plant. In May, Ve-
danta had shortlisted
Maharashtra, and a ten-
tative incentive and in-
frastructure package
was prepared by the
government in June.
Shinde and Deputy
Chief Minister Deven-
dra Fadnavis were in
regular touch with Ve-
danta Chairman Anil
Agarwal and had spo-
ken to him over phone,
he said.
Shinde had written to
him (Agarwal) assuring
that the state cabinet’s
approval and the cen-
tral government’s nod
for 20% capital subsidy
for the semiconductor
facility would be taken,
said the official.
The Vedanta team
held a meeting with
Shinde, Fadnavis and
top officials on July 26.
“Shinde wrote to Agar-
wal on July 26, inviting
him for a MoU signing
ceremony on July 29 in
Mumbai,” added the of-
ficial.
The official said that
on April 25 this year, Ve-
danta had verbally con-
firmed that the Tale-
gaon site (near Pune)
had superior connectiv-
ity and investment eco-
system as well as a his-
tory of disbursement of
incentives and policy
structure.
On May 03, Vedanta’s
technical partner Fox-
conn visited Talegaon
and deemed that it was
most technically feasi-
ble. Foxconn had a fol-
low up visit at Talegaon
on July 27 and 28.
However, on Tuesday,
Vedanta-Foxconn joint-
ly inked a MoU with
the Gujarat govern-
ment in Gandhinagar
to set up the semicon-
ductor and display
manufacturing unit
in Gujarat.

took a dig at the

choosing Gujarat over
Maharashtra to set

Toll on Mum-Pune Exp
torise18%fromApril01
First India Bureau
Mumbai: Commuters
on the Mumbai-Pune
Expressway will have
to pay higher user
fees beginning April
01 next year, as the
toll road’s tariff is be-
ing revised.
According to Tushar
Kawedia, chief finan-
cial officer at IRB Infra-
structure, the tariff
hike on the Mumbai-
Pune expressway is due
next year from April 01,
2023.
“There is a fixed tar-
iff hike every three
years for this project,
which is 18%,” he said.
The one-way fare for
cars on the Mumbai-
Pune Expressway is
around Rs270, while
buses pay Rs 797.
Commenting on the
organic growth in traf-
fic momentum, Kawed-
ia said, “Considering
all the adjustments for
tariff, the volume
growth that we have
seen is around 7-8% and
we believe this contin-
ues for the coming
quarters as well.”
August 2022 toll col-
lection numbers have
come in around Rs336
crore, this is a 35% year-
on-year (YoY) rise.
The collections are
improving on a month-
on-month (MoM) basis,
so there is robust
growth in the toll
collections predomi-
nantly on account of
clarified achievements
of CODs for a couple of
projects and then con-
tribution by the traffic
growth.
“This 35% growth is
led by the traffic growth
of almost 7-8% on the
portfolio basis. We look
forward that these num-
bers are continuing
even for September as
well and besides this
monsoon season, the
numbers are quite at-
tractive,” he said.

that a second post-
mortem be conduct-
ed on her, an official
said on Friday.
The body of the
21-year-old woman was
brought to the state-
run JJ Hospital in
Mumbai from Nandur-
bar district, located in
the northwest corner
of Maharashtra, on
Thursday, he said.
“A committee of ex-
pert doctors is being
formed and the post-
mortem will be con-
ducted,” he said, add-
ing that the procedure
will be video-graphed.
The woman was
found hanging at Vavi
in Dhadgaon taluka of
Nandurbar on August
01. Her father had
claimed that she was
raped by four men, po-
lice officials said.
Following her death,
a post-mortem was con-
ducted on her at a state-
run hospital in Nan-
durbar, which ruled
out any foul play and a
case of suicide was reg-
istered, the police offi-
cial said, adding that
three persons were ar-
rested in connection
with the case.
However, the wom-
an’s family members,
including father, al-
leged that police did
not investigate the case
properly, and hence de-
cided to preserve the
body instead of cremat-
ing it, he said.
The family buried
her body in a pit filled
with salt at their vil-
lage in Dhadgaon as
they sought a second
post-mortem in order
to bring out the truth
about her death, the of-
ficial said.
Salt is used to inhibit
the process of decom-
position.
“As the body was
kept in the salt pit for
weeks, the authorities
agreed to conduct
another post-mortem
in Mumbai. Accord-
ingly, the body was
brought to JJ Hospital
on Thursday afternoon
for post-mortem,” he
said.
As the body was kept in the salt pit for weeks, the authorities
agreed to conduct another post-mortem.

Mumbai: Rock carv-
ings and tools of a pre-
viously unknown
Stone Age civilization
have been found in the
Konkan region of the
state. They have
helped archaeologists
shed light on prehis-
toric artworks and
their lives.
According to a BBC
report, the cave, located
around 10km away from
Koloshi village in west-
ern Maharashtra, was
discovered by a group of
researcherslastyear.Ex-
cavations earlier this
year revealed several
stone tools in the cave
that date back tens of
thousands of years.
“Nowhereintheworld
can we find this kind of
rock art,” said Dr Tejas
Garge,headof thestate’s
archaeology depart-
ment. Archaeologists
believe these artefacts
can help reveal more
aboutthewayourances-
tors lived.
The cave, which is sit-
uated in a secluded for-
est in Sindhudurg, was
discovered by research-
ers who were studying
rock carvings in nearby
areas. Excavation work
was conducted in two
rounds, during which
archaeologists dug two
trenches inside the cave.
Several big and small
stone tools dating back
to the Mesolithic period-
-also called the Middle
Stone Age—have been
found.
“The microliths, or
the small stone tools,
date back to around
10,000years,whereasthe
larger tools could be
around20,000yearsold,”
said Rutivij Apte, who
hasbeenresearchingthe

was part of the excava-
tion team.
According to Dr Parth
Chauhan, an archaeolo-
gist, chemical processes
are used to analyze any
residue that might be
present on the edges of
the artefacts. This can
help determine what the
object was used for.
“It will take a couple
of months to find out the
exact time period these
stone tools belong to.
But, we can say that
these artefacts are be-
tween 10,000 to 48,000
years old.”

which has the po-

gion and every
state. At a time when India is on
the verge of leading the fourth
industrial revolution, the role of
India’sscienceandpeopleassoci-
atedwiththisfieldisveryimpor-
tant. In such a situation, the re-
sponsibilityof thepolicy-makers
and those of us who are associ-
ated with governance and ad-

this brainstorming session in
the Science City of Ahmedabad
willgiveyounewinspirationand
will fill you with enthusiasm to
encourage science.
It is mentioned in our scrip-
tures-
That is, when there is amalga-
mation of knowledge and sci-
ence, With this inspiration, to-
day’s new India is moving for-
ward with the call of Jai Jawan,
Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan and Jai
Anusandhan.
There is an important aspect
of the past to which I would like
to draw your attention. That les-
son from history will go a long
way in shaping the future for
both the Center and the states.
If we remember the early dec-
ades of the last century
, we find
how the world was going
through a period of devastation
and tragedy. But even at that
time, scientists everywhere,
whether in the East or the West,
were engaged in their signifi-
cant discoveries. In the West,
many such scientists like Ein-
stein, Fermi, Max Planck, Niels
Bohr and Tesla were surprising
the world with their experi-
ments. In the same period,
countless Indian scientists like
CV Raman, Jagadish Chandra
Bose, Satyendra Nath Bose,
Meghnad Saha, S Chandrashek-
har, among others, were coming
forward with their new discov-
eries.Allthesescientistsopened
many avenues to improve the
future. But a major difference
between East and West was that
we did not celebrate the work of
our scientists as much as it
should have been done. As a re-
sult, a sense of indifference de-
veloped in a large part of our
society regarding science.
One thing we must remember
is that when we celebrate art,
we also inspire and create more
new artists. When we celebrate
sports, we inspire and create
new players as well. Similarly,
when we celebrate the achieve-
ments of our scientists, science
becomes a natural part of our
society and it becomes a part of
culture. Therefore, today I urge
all the people who have come
from all the states to celebrate
and glorify the achievements of
the scientists of our country
. At
every step, the scientists of our
country are also giving us this
opportunity through their dis-
coveries. If India has been able
to develop vaccines for corona
and has been able to administer
more than 200 crore vaccine
doses, there is a huge potential
of our scientists behind it. Sim-
ilarly, today the scientists of
India are doing wonders in eve-
ry field. By celebrating every
small and big achievement of
scientists of India, the aptitude
that will develop towards sci-
ence in the country will help us
a lot in this ‘
Amrit Kaal’.
I am happy that our govern-
ment is moving ahead with the
science-based development ap-
proach. Since 2014, there has
been a substantial increase in
investment in the field of sci-
ence and technology
. Due to the
efforts of the government, India
is ranked 46th in the Global In-
novation Index today, whereas
India was at 81 position in 2015.
We have covered the distance
from 81 to 46 in such a short
time, but we do not have to stop
here, we have to aim higher now.
Today a record number of pat-
ents are being granted in India
and new innovations are taking
place. You can see that today so
many start-ups from the field of
science are attending this con-
clave. The wave of start-ups in
the country is telling us about
how fast the change is coming.
There are many national lev-
el scientific institutes and labo-
ratories in the states. The states
should take full advantage of
their ability and expertise. We
also have to take our science
related institutions out of the
state of silos. Optimum utiliza-
tion of all scientific institutions
is equally necessary for better
utilization of the state’s poten-
tial and resources. You should
also increase the number of
such programs in your states
which take science and technol-
ogy forward at the grassroots
level. But we also have to keep
one thing in mind. For example,
science festivals are held in
many states but it is also true
that many schools do not par-
ticipate in it. We should find the
reasons and make more schools
part of such science festivals.
Science is like that energy
in the development of 21st
century India, which has the
power to accelerate
the development of every
region and state
Role of India’s science
and people related to this
field is very important in the
march towards the fourth
industrial revolution
New India is moving
forward with Jai Jawan,
Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan as well
as Jai Anusandhan
Science is the basis of
solutions, evolution
and innovation
When we celebrate
the achievements of
our scientists, science
becomes part of our
society and culture
Government is working
with the thinking of Science-
Based Development
Innovation can be
encouraged by laying
emphasis on the creation
of more and more scientific
institutions and simplification
of processes by the state
governments
As governments, we have to
cooperate and collaborate
with our scientists, this will
create an atmosphere of a
scientific modernity

Time to celebrate success of our scientists!
Science, technology and innovation are in the DNA of today’s
young generation. He adapts to technology very fast. We have
to support this young generation with all our might. In today’s new
India, new sectors are being opened up in the field of research and
innovation for the younger generation. Be it Space Mission, Deep
Ocean Mission, National Super Computing Mission, Semiconductor
Mission, Mission Hydrogen, Drone Technology, work is going on at
a rapid pace on many such missions.

New Delhi: Many seats

in Rajya Sabha are still
vacant. But instead of
nominating the mem-
bers for each seat at
once, the central govt is

are now nine members.
Ghulam Ali Khatana of
JK has been nominat-

whose oath is pending.
Before him, three seats
were vacant, so it
seemed that three mem-
bers would be nominat-
ed together. But that did
not happen. Khatana
has been nominated
alone. Before that, four
people were nominated.
Recently, the central
govt nominated four
people from four states
of South India to the Up-
per House. PT Usha
from Kerala, Dr. Viren-
dra Hegde from K’taka,
Vijayendra Prasad from
Telangana and Ilaiyara-
ja from TN were sent to
the Upper House. Apart
from the five new mem-
bers, including Kha-
tana, the five members,
including former Chief
Justice Ranjan Gogoi,
and four have joined the
BJP. The names of these
four people are – Rakesh
Sinha, Sonal Mansingh,
Mahesh Jethmalani and
Ram Shakal. Now the
eyes of many people are
on the remaining two
seats. For the first time
in a long time, no jour-

will be interesting to see
whether the remaining

BMC chief...
on a late evening visit to
Deputy Chief Minister
Devendra Fadnavis’s
residence.
This visit created
much controversy com-
ing only hours after
Chief Minister Eknath
Shinde publicly stated
that politicians facing
scrutiny by central rev-
enue intelligence agen-
cies like the Enforce-
ment Directorate (ED)
should not be enter-
tained or taken into its
fold by the new dispen-
sation that he led.
The issue had also led
to a furore at the BJP’s
Nariman Point office as
Kamboj had courted
Sheikh, who was under
ED scrutiny, and facili-
tated his meeting with
Fadnavis even though
the BJP leaders like Kir-
it Somaiya had exposed
the Congress leader’s al-
leged corruption. So-
maiya, BJP MP Gopal
Shetty and other BJP
leaders subsequently
even held public pro-
testsintheMumbaisub-
urb of Malvani over
films studios which
were alleged construct-
ed illegally at the behest
of Sheikh during his
tenure as minister.
These structures even
faced demolition action
by the BMC following
the protests.
Chahal’s visit with
Kamboj has similarly
drawn parallels on the
propriety of the BMC
chief--who the BJP lead-
er accused of corrup-
tion for allegedly being
complicit with
Yashwant Jadhav, Shiv
Sena’s Standing Com-
mittee Chairman in the
BMC. After all, Kamboj
had claimed that Chahal
held properties in the
US while demanding an
Income Tax department
probe against BMC’s
current administrator.
MVA to blame...

ing state.
He said he immedi-
ately spoke to Chief
Minister Eknath Shin-
de, and initiated talks
for a meeting.
“I even used my per-
sonal relations with Ve-
danta chief Anil Agar-
wal, and went to his
house. We assured him
that we would offer a
better package than Gu-
jarat. However, he said
that the talks with Guja-
rat were at an advanced
stage, and it may not be
prudent to go back on
it,” Fadnavis said, add-
ing that despite that, the
government held a
meeting with the Vedan-
ta-Foxconn officials and
offeredthebestpackage.
Fadnavis said, “So the
decision to go to Gujarat
was already made, but
westillmadealast-ditch
attempt to bring the pro-
ject to Maharashtra.
Those who have not
done anything in 2.5
years are now blaming
us. They should say
whattheyhaveachieved.
Even if the MVA gov-
ernment has taken the
state backwards, we will
take it No 1 again.”
Fadnavis also ques-
tioned the Shiv Sena on
its opposition to the Na-
nar refinery
. “The refin-
ery would have brought
an investment of Rs3.5
lakh crore, and created
five lakh jobs. If the re-
finery had started, Ma-
harashtra would have
leapt 10 years ahead.
But, there was opposi-
tion, and we lost the pro-
ject,” he said.
He added that Wad-
hwan port a natural
deep draft and any large
vessel could dock, open-
ing opportunities of
making it one of the big-
gest international ports.
“During the recent
visit to Russia, they
werecomplainingthatit
takes longer time to fer-
ry cargo to JNPT, which
accounts for 76% of
cargo across India.
There is scope for an-
other large port. If a
large port and a large
refinery come to Maha-
rashtra, the two projects
alone will take the state
miles ahead of other
states,” he said.

Earlier this year, Reliance
Industries bought an
ultra-luxury Rolls Royce
hatchback costing `13.14
crore. The firm paid `12
lakh for a VIP number
after opting for it “out of
series”.
The number ‘0001’

This means an

lakh.

urple is
royal. It’s
elaborate,

with the
trappings
of majesty
and ceremony. It’s
the favourite col-
our of adolescent
girls, and it’s the
colour of fantasy
and magic. It’s
half-blue, half-red,
and our under-
standing of purple
lies somewhere in
between the seren-
ity of blue and the
passion of red.
Purple combines
the calm stability
of blue and the
fierce energy of
red. Wearing the
colour purple is of-
ten associated with
royalty, nobility,
luxury, power, and
ambition. Purple
also represents the
meanings of
wealth, extrava-
gance, creativity,
wisdom,
dignity,
g r a n -
deur, devo-
tion, peace,
pride, mys-
tery, inde-
pendence,
and mag-
ic. The
colour pur-
ple is a rare oc-
curring colour in
nature and as a re-
sult, is often seen
as having sacred
meaning. For in-
stance, lavender,
orchid, lilac, and
violet flowers are
considered delicate
and precious. Ad-
ditional words
that represent
d i f f e r e n t
shades, tints,
and values of
the colour violet:
purple, plum, lav-
ender, lilac, puce,
thistle, orchid,
mauve, magenta,
royal, amethyst,
wine, eggplant,
and mulberry. Pur-
ple both calms and
stimulates our bod-
ies, putting us in
the right place for
introspection and
focused insight. It
fosters creativity
by awakening our
senses while pro-
moting the quiet
necessary to make
intuitive, insight-
ful observations.
Purple creates a
harmonious bal-
ance of awareness
and peace. Purple
has long been asso-
ciated with wealth
and royalty, as the
purple dye was pre-
cious and expen-
sive. If green is the
colour of spring,
then purple con-
jures up autumn,
fading light, and
shorter days. Pur-
ple is insouciant–

reverence. Purple
also represents
harmony, the bal-

  • 1. MUMBAI l SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2022 l Pages 14 l 3.00 RNITITLE NO.MAHENG/2022/14652 lVol 1 l Issue No.131 Kartikey Dev Singh eldom does it happen that life brings forth an individual who does things in his or her own style and who brings about a radical change in whatever field the said individual happens to be functioning in. However, such individuals are extremely rare when it comes to politics. But 72 years ago, on September 17, 1950, a child was born in the house of a tea-seller in Gujarat who, as time progressed changed the po- litical landscape of the nation and had to his distinction a his- torical achievement of staying in various political offices for over two decades! Needless to say, this individual, who has never lost an election, is Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has, in his eighth year as PM, achieved what his predecessors had long dreamt of taking the nation to. Modi has emerged as the Number One world leader; a leader who has gone past even more ‘powerful’ leaders, wheth- er in economic or military might, when it comes to public approval. For the third time in a row, recently PM Modi was yet again crowned the undisputed ‘World Leader’ passing the likes of American President Joe Biden, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, Mexican President An- dres Manuel Lopez Obrador or Canadian Prime Minister Jus- tin Trudeau. It is Modi’s warm-hearted de- meanor and the ability to take along even the opposing na- tions along over issues that benefit the world, that has earned him the respect and ad- miration of his peers. His warm, long hugs to these peers seem to have been the thaw that was needed in international re- lations. But Modi has not been all rosy, rather it is his carrot and stick approach that has resonated with the other world leader, especially those from the western block. With an approval rating of 75 per cent, according to the re- cent Morning Consult survey, Modi’s popularity is sure to stay for a long time since it does not depend on lip service and giv- ing merely populist schemes, but because his government has en- sured that the benefit of populist schemes actu- ally reach till the last end of the society . To the PM, who is also a global icon who works nearly 20 hours a day, First India wishes many many happy returns of the day. Happy Birth- day Mr PM! S Prime Minister Narendra Modi Happy Birthday to the Global Icon: PM Modi!

MVA to blame for state falling behind Gujarat: Dy CM Fadnavis Satish Nandgaonkar Mumbai: Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fad- navis on Friday slammed the Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA government for the state’s No. 4 position, trailing behind Guja- rat, and revealed that Vedanta-Foxconn with Gujarat was was al- ready at an advanced stage when the Maha Yuti made a final bid to woo them to Maharash- tra. While the BMC chief responded with a sum- mary “No comment” to First India’s inquiries on the issue, civic cir- cles expressed surprise over the apparent rap- prochement consider- ing the serious allega- tions that the BJP lead- er had levelled against Chahal just months ago. “Chahal also present- ed the BJP leader with a statue of Lord Rama when he visited his res- idence to seek blessings from Lord Ganesh,” a person familiar with the issue told First In- dia. In March 2022, back when the MVA govern- ment was in power, Kamboj had accused Chahal of impropriety and corruption after be- ing served notices by the BMC over alleged irregularities and vio- lations of civic norms at his Mumbai duplex. • 4. First India Bureau Pune: The Pune Mu- nicipal Corporation (PMC) has directed Ganesh mandals to dismantle pandals and chariots as soon as possible in order to avoid obstructions on roads and footpaths. Even though the Ganesh festival ended a week ago, pandals on some roads are yet to be removed. Citizens from across the city have urged the Ganesh man- dals to ensure that pe- destrians do not face obstacles and hardships owing to the pandals. The civic body offi- cials have started con- ducting site visits to check if the pandals erected by the mandals have been dismantled. A senior PMC official stated that adequate time has been given to the mandals to clear the pandals and the decora- tion material. Now, of- ficials will begin spot visits. Over 1,500 mandals had approached the PMC for permission to put up pandals. Most pandals were erected on the roadside. According to a Shiva- jinagar resident, the chariots used for the immersion procession are still parked on the roadside or on foot- paths. The authorities must act against illegal pandals and those occu- pying additional space. Workers of Ganesh mandals, on the other hand, said that steps have been taken to re- move the pandals. Prashant Badhe, a func- tionary at a Ganesh mandal in Shivajina- gar, said that their pan- dal was dismantled within a couple of days after the immersion procession. Maha government in talks with Vedanta since January First India Bureau Mumbai: Amid a row over a Vedanta-Fox- conn semiconductor project moving out to Gujarat from Maha- rashtra, it has been revealed that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had invited the company to sign a Memorandum of Un- derstanding (MoU) with the government on July 29 to set up the facility near Pune. A senior government official said Vedanta had begun talks with the previous Maha Vi- kas Aghadi (MVA) gov- ernment from January this year over the pro- posed plant. In May, Ve- danta had shortlisted Maharashtra, and a ten- tative incentive and in- frastructure package was prepared by the government in June. Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Deven- dra Fadnavis were in regular touch with Ve- danta Chairman Anil Agarwal and had spo- ken to him over phone, he said. Shinde had written to him (Agarwal) assuring that the state cabinet’s approval and the cen- tral government’s nod for 20% capital subsidy for the semiconductor facility would be taken, said the official. The Vedanta team held a meeting with Shinde, Fadnavis and top officials on July 26. “Shinde wrote to Agar- wal on July 26, inviting him for a MoU signing ceremony on July 29 in Mumbai,” added the of- ficial. The official said that on April 25 this year, Ve- danta had verbally con- firmed that the Tale- gaon site (near Pune) had superior connectiv- ity and investment eco- system as well as a his- tory of disbursement of incentives and policy structure. On May 03, Vedanta’s technical partner Fox- conn visited Talegaon and deemed that it was most technically feasi- ble. Foxconn had a fol- low up visit at Talegaon on July 27 and 28. Commenting on the organic growth in traf- fic momentum, Kawed- ia said, “Considering all the adjustments for tariff, the volume growth that we have seen is around 7-8% and we believe this contin- ues for the coming quarters as well.” August 2022 toll col- lection numbers have come in around Rs336 crore, this is a 35% year- on-year (YoY) rise. The collections are improving on a month- on-month (MoM) basis, so there is robust growth in the toll collections predomi- nantly on account of clarified achievements of CODs for a couple of projects and then con- tribution by the traffic growth. “This 35% growth is led by the traffic growth of almost 7-8% on the portfolio basis. We look forward that these num- bers are continuing even for September as well and besides this monsoon season, the numbers are quite at- tractive,” he said. According to Dr Parth Chauhan, an archaeolo- gist, chemical processes are used to analyze any residue that might be present on the edges of the artefacts. This can help determine what the object was used for. “It will take a couple of months to find out the exact time period these stone tools belong to. At a time when India is on the verge of leading the fourth industrial revolution, the role of India’sscienceandpeopleassoci- atedwiththisfieldisveryimpor- tant. In such a situation, the re- sponsibilityof thepolicy-makers and those of us who are associ- ated with governance and ad- ministration increases. I hope this brainstorming session in the Science City of Ahmedabad willgiveyounewinspirationand will fill you with enthusiasm to encourage science. It is mentioned in our scrip- tures- That is, when there is amalga- mation of knowledge and sci- ence, With this inspiration, to- day’s new India is moving for- ward with the call of Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan and Jai Anusandhan. There is an important aspect of the past to which I would like to draw your attention. That les- son from history will go a long way in shaping the future for both the Center and the states. If we remember the early dec- ades of the last century , we find how the world was going through a period of devastation and tragedy. But even at that time, scientists everywhere, whether in the East or the West, were engaged in their signifi- cant discoveries. In the West, many such scientists like Ein- stein, Fermi, Max Planck, Niels Bohr and Tesla were surprising the world with their experi- ments. In the same period, countless Indian scientists like CV Raman, Jagadish Chandra Bose, Satyendra Nath Bose, Meghnad Saha, S Chandrashek- har, among others, were coming forward with their new discov- eries.Allthesescientistsopened many avenues to improve the future. But a major difference between East and West was that we did not celebrate the work of our scientists as much as it should have been done. As a re- sult, a sense of indifference de- veloped in a large part of our society regarding science. One thing we must remember is that when we celebrate art, we also inspire and create more new artists. When we celebrate sports, we inspire and create new players as well. Similarly, when we celebrate the achieve- ments of our scientists, science becomes a natural part of our society and it becomes a part of culture. Therefore, today I urge all the people who have come from all the states to celebrate and glorify the achievements of the scientists of our country . At every step, the scientists of our country are also giving us this opportunity through their dis- coveries. If India has been able to develop vaccines for corona and has been able to administer more than 200 crore vaccine doses, there is a huge potential of our scientists behind it. Sim- ilarly, today the scientists of India are doing wonders in eve- ry field. By celebrating every small and big achievement of scientists of India, the aptitude that will develop towards sci- ence in the country will help us a lot in this ‘ Amrit Kaal’. I am happy that our govern- ment is moving ahead with the science-based development ap- proach. Since 2014, there has been a substantial increase in investment in the field of sci- ence and technology . Due to the efforts of the government, India is ranked 46th in the Global In- novation Index today, whereas India was at 81 position in 2015. We have covered the distance from 81 to 46 in such a short time, but we do not have to stop here, we have to aim higher now. Today a record number of pat- ents are being granted in India and new innovations are taking place. You can see that today so many start-ups from the field of science are attending this con- clave. The wave of start-ups in the country is telling us about how fast the change is coming. There are many national lev- el scientific institutes and labo- ratories in the states. The states should take full advantage of their ability and expertise. We also have to take our science related institutions out of the state of silos. Optimum utiliza- tion of all scientific institutions is equally necessary for better utilization of the state’s poten- tial and resources. You should also increase the number of such programs in your states which take science and technol- ogy forward at the grassroots level. But we also have to keep one thing in mind. For example, science festivals are held in many states but it is also true that many schools do not par- ticipate in it. We should find the reasons and make more schools part of such science festivals. Science is like that energy in the development of 21st century India, which has the power to accelerate the development of every region and state Role of India’s science and people related to this field is very important in the march towards the fourth industrial revolution New India is moving forward with Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan as well as Jai Anusandhan Science is the basis of solutions, evolution and innovation When we celebrate the achievements of our scientists, science becomes part of our society and culture Government is working with the thinking of Science- Based Development Innovation can be encouraged by laying emphasis on the creation of more and more scientific institutions and simplification of processes by the state governments As governments, we have to cooperate and collaborate with our scientists, this will create an atmosphere of a scientific modernity NEWINDIA ISMOVING FORWARDWITHJAIJAWAN, JAIKISAN,JAIVIGYAN ASWELL AS JAIANUSANDHAN S TOP QUOTE OF THE SPEECH Prime Minister Narendra Modi PM Narendra Modi addresses at the inauguration of the ‘Centre-State Science Conclave’ in Ahmedabad, Gujarat through video conferencing, in Delhi on Saturday. Time to celebrate success of our scientists! Science, technology and innovation are in the DNA of today’s young generation. He adapts to technology very fast. We have to support this young generation with all our might. In today’s new India, new sectors are being opened up in the field of research and innovation for the younger generation. Be it Space Mission, Deep Ocean Mission, National Super Computing Mission, Semiconductor Mission, Mission Hydrogen, Drone Technology, work is going on at a rapid pace on many such missions. One thing we must remember is that when we celebrate art, we also inspire and create more new artists. The issue had also led to a furore at the BJP’s Nariman Point office as Kamboj had courted Sheikh, who was under ED scrutiny, and facili- tated his meeting with Fadnavis even though the BJP leaders like Kir- it Somaiya had exposed the Congress leader’s al- leged corruption.
