HAPPY BIRTHDAY PM MODI
‘VISHWAGURU’
TURNS ANOTHER PAGE!
DR JAGDEESH CHANDRA
the general con-
science of the
masses, seventy
three years of
age is consid-
ered to be the twilight years of
an individual...a time when
they retire from worldly activi-
ties and concentrate their lim-
ited energies on maintaining
their health and perhaps spend-
ing time with their grandchil-
dren, if any. In fact, in the
thoughts of the masses, people
of old age are quickly ‘written
off’, as they can not move
about with the same pace as the
ever moving world.
However, this is not the
mould Prime Minister Naren-
dra Modi fits in.As he turns 73
years of age today, he is
sprightly as lively as any 27
years old youth! Working over
twenty hours a day, PM main-
tains the same energy, focus
and zeal of any youth of today.
perhaps that is another reason
why the youth of the ‘modern
world’ finds in Modi an icon
they can resonate with!
Prime Minister Narendra
Modi’s birthday comes at a
moment when he is at the epit-
ome of his political journey
and has virtually acquired the
status of a global leader and a
‘Vishwa Guru’. G20’s unani-
mous New Delhi declaration
proves Modi’s exceptional dip-
lomatic talent to get a consen-
sus vote on all G20 resolutions,
including the controversial
Ukraine Resolution. Almost
the entire world now acknowl-
edges his international stature,
aura and political appeal. Modi
is again set to surprise the na-
tion with some major an-
nouncements in the coming up
special Parliament session be-
ginning from 18th September.
His‘OneNation,OneElection’
move, the renaming of India as
‘Bharat’, a 33 percent women
reservation and his ‘quota
within quota’ (OBCs) move
may seriously upset the Oppo-
sition alliance I.N.D.I.A.,
where Modi has gone too far to
have a decisive win in 2024.
His all political resolutions,
irrespectiveofBJP’smajorityor
no majority in Rajya Sabha, are
set to sail through, where his
principal trouble-shooter Amit
Shahisallsettohavehis‘repeat
performance’this time also.
On his birthday, Modi is not
talking of 2024 and 2029 elec-
tions, rather he is confidently
projecting his Vision of New
India in the year 2047. His
popularity graph has risen to
that extent that September 17
will look like as if the entire
nation is celebrating his birth-
day. Once again, Modi’s birth-
day celebrations are set to steal
the limelight of Congress’
CWC meeting at Hyderabad.
Moreover, PM Modi will
unveil a new scheme, on his
birthday, for small craftsmen
and artisans called PM Vish-
wakarma Scheme on the occa-
sion of Vishwakarma Jayanti.
The aim of the scheme is to aid
craftsmen and artisans not just
financially by providing loans
at minimal interest rate, but
also to keep alive the tradition,
culture, and heritage of past
centuries by the way of local
products and sculptures.
On the day when the ‘mira-
cle man of Indian politics’turns
73, First India wishes Narendra
Modi, the phenomenon, all the
best for the year ahead...

MP Diya Kumari, has
demanded the swift reso-
lution of the ongoing dis-
pute regarding the route
to the ancient Papadesh-
war Hanuman Temple in
Jaipur, a centre of faith
that dates back 2500
years. She stated that the
closure of the path by
the State Government
and the Forest Depart-
ment, along with the
mistreatment of devo-
tees, has caused signifi-
cant anger among the
general public and the
priest community.
It is worth mentioning
that in protest against the
unilateral action taken
by the Forest Depart-
ment to close the road to
the temple, the priests
and the officials of the
temple committee are
struggling to open the
way for devotees.
MP has urged the State

Be it Swachhata, volunteering, water conservation, Fit India, exams or women empowerment.... every month, citizens have been

India's first visually rich radio programme, started on October 3, 2014, PM Modi addresses the nation every month on All India
Radio. The programme aims to bring the voice and thoughts of the Prime Minister to the common people of India. Since television
connection is still not available everywhere in India, especially in isolated, rural and less developed areas, radio was chosen as the
medium of programming due to its wider reach. An estimated 90% of the total Indian population can be reached through the
medium. Doordarshan's DTH service (Free Dish) broadcasts 20-minute long episode feeds on television and radio channels.

OPPOSITION MUST
WITHDRAW CALL TO
BOYCOTT ANCHORS
he Opposition bloc’s decision to boycott 14
TV anchors for what it calls their hate-pro-
moting stance has come in for strong criti-
cism from the media and the BJP. No Congress
leader will participate in programmes hosted by these
anchors from different channels as they are “in the
WhatsApp group of BJP’s media cell and spread ha-
tred in the country”. The decision was taken at the
first meeting of the I.N.D.I.A. coordination commit-
tee held recently.
The BJPcalled the decision draconian and said that
it won’t help the Congress in elections. The decision
of I.N.D.I.A. also reflects the Emergency-era mindset
when the government had imposed censorship. The
National Broadcasters and Digital Association also
slammed the decision as “an attack on democracy”.
The Opposition bloc should juxtapose its decision
with what the Supreme Court said while extending
protection to three Editors of the Editors Guild of India
and end the boycott call against 14 anchors. Won’t it
be violative of the anchors’ freedom of speech?
T
IS IT TIME FOR ANOTHER
SURGICAL STRIKE IN PoK
he Indian Army has said that three Pakistan-
sponsored terrorists were killed in an encoun-
ter near Line of Control in the Baramulla sec-
tor of Jammu and Kashmir. The point emphasized by
the army at a press briefing was that the Pakistan army
provided cover fire to help one of the injured terrorists
to return to the Pakistani-controlled side. The body of
thegrievouslyinjuredterrorist,whoisbelievedtohave
died on the other side, could not be retrieved. Two
others were killed while trying to infiltrate.
The encounter comes days after an army colonel,
a major and a deputy superintendent of JK police
were killed in a gun-
fight with terrorists
inAnantnag district’s
Kokernag area. As
the army asserted the
involvement of Paki-
stan in infiltrating
ultras and the opera-
tion to flush out ter-
rorists entered its
fourth day, there was
a clamour in certain
quarters to destroy
the terror shelters in
the Pakistan Occu-
pied Kashmir.
In 2020 the Indian
Army destroyed four
launch pads in PoK
in a counter offensive
against ceasefire vio-
lation by the Pakistan
army. But in 2019
India carried out a
daring early morning
air attack on terror camps in Balakot to avenge the
killing of 40 CRPF personnel in Srinagar. The of-
fensive codenamed Bandar was meant to send a
strong message to Pakistan that India won’t hesitate
from strong retaliation in case terrorists continued to
trouble India.
Fresh infiltration with the help of the Pakistan
army is an act of provocation which calls for another
surgical strike. If a surgical strike is undertaken it will
be in keeping with Prime Minister Modi’s no-non-
sense image.

CONCLUSION
India is the world’s oldest
and largest functional
democracy. We can set
example of to the world,
how such mammoth exer-
cise can be conceived and
delivered by the mother
of democracy. Meeting
of minds is the first step,
followed harmonious
Coordination between
Legislature, Executive and
Judiciary to realize this
dream. This brilliant idea
appears to be challeng-
ing, at present. However,
those who dare to dream
big have the perseverance
to fulfill their dreams and
pioneer the change. The
well meaning citizens of
this country look up to our
dynamic PM and learned
politicians, to be the har-
binger of Change. The his-
tory will salute their efforts.

Election’isn’t just an issue
of deliberation but also a
need of the country.” It
sounded like a dream come
true to all Indians. In De-
cember 2020, I also penned
one article about ‘One Na-
tion One Election’which a
popular Govt like that of
Narendra Modi, re-elected
in 2019 could implement.
It has taken this idea many
years to finally start find-
ing favours in the corridors
of power. BJP may have
drawn and dusted this idea
just before elections, with
some political gains in
mind and I.N.D.I.A. is op-
posing it, for similar rea-
sons. Rising above the
party politics and immedi-
ate gains, if we consider
this idea with ‘Nation
First’ attitude, it will be a
trend setter from the larg-
est democracy, for the
world to emulate.
HISTORICAL
PERSPECTIVE
Historically, elections dur-
ing the first two decades
after Independence were
held simultaneously, i.e.,
during 1951-52, 1957,
1962 and 1967. Dissolu-
tion of certain assemblies,
followed by the dissolu-
tion of the Lok Sabha and
general elections in 1971,
along with indiscriminate
use of Article 356 (Presi-
dent’s Rule) disrupted the
schedule of simultaneous
elections, forever.
THE NEED
This need emerges from
multiple reasons, with a
desire to streamline the
electoral process and over-
come the challenges asso-
ciated with the existing
system. In the present sys-
tem, India witnesses a re-
curring electoral cycle,
with elections at various
levels taking place, at dif-
ferent times. The conse-
quences of this staggered
approach are many, includ-
ing huge and avoidable
election-related expenses,
frequent political distrac-
tions, and severe disrup-
tions in governance and
policy formulation. Money
and administrative ex-
pense will be drastically
cut. In last general elec-
tions of 2019, 610 political
parties contested and the
expense was approximate-
ly Rs.60,000 crores.
WHY THE OPPOSITION
In the lighter vein, if elec-
tions are held only once in
five years, the politicians
will be fairly unemployed.
However,thefollowingrea-
sons merit consideration:-
l Consensus for Reforms: Politi-
cal consensus is essential,
for the large scale amend-
ments. Ratification of the
amendments by more
than half of the states will
also be required. This
would also need agree-
ment to curtail the terms
of some state assemblies.
There is need to rise
above the petty politics,
keeping the ‘Nation First’
ethos in mind.
l Political Gains: Simultane-
ous elections favour large
national parties like BJP.
With Congress vastly mar-
ginalized, the opposition to
BJP is mainly from coali-
tion of regional parties,
who feel that they will be
at great disadvantage.
l Amendments to the Constitu-
tion: Besides, a large
number of amendments to
laws, rules and regulations
would need to be carried
out, making the task very
arduous, if not impossible.
l Legal Scrutiny: All these
large scale amendments to
the Constitution will result
in hundreds of cases land-
ing up in courts as these
will be considered against
the basic constitutional
fabric. In all probability,
these will be challenged
in the Supreme Court
because the fundamental
structure of the constitution
cannot be altered.
l Simultaneous elec-
tions threaten the federal
character of our democ-
racy.
l In case of hung Lok Sabha,
there is no provision for
President’s rule like in
case of states.
ROADMAP
The first step has been
taken by appointing a
committee, headed by for-
mer President Shri Ram
Nath Kovind, to examine
the possibility of simulta-
neous elections. The con-
cept must be navigated
thru the intricacies of fed-
eralism, as it necessitates
cooperation and consensus
among states, each with its
unique political dynamics
and agenda. The imple-
mentation could be carried
out in phases. However,
the implementation of
such a reform is far from
straightforward. It in-
volves not only practical
challenges but also com-
plex legal and constitu-
tional considerations. Cer-
tainly, the learned mem-
bers of the committee will
find answers to all such
impediments.
LOGISTICS
CHALLENGES
Simultaneous elections in
a country of approx 100
crore voters will be a logis-
tic nightmare. There will
be massive requirements
of staff, manpower, police
forces and other logistics
for conduct of this event of
such gigantic proportions.
Additional EVMs and
VVPAT will have to be
purchased, deployed in
time, used and warehoused
for the next elections. The
Election commission has
pegged the additional ex-
penditure at approx Rs
10,000 Crore.
THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY

borders of India are not only used for

This border is not only useful for trade but

social relations,” Amit Shah said speaking
at a public event at Jogbani, a bordering
village in Bihar. Speaking about the impor-

Shah said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi

INDIA'S COUNTERATTACK ON
CANADA PM JUSTIN TRUDEAU
‘ALAKH' AGAINST BRAHMINISM;
OPPOSITIONTAKINGADVANTAGE
ecently, a successful G-20
summit was organized
in India, but there was a
Prime Minister of a country who did
not hesitate to show his displeasure
with India. In response, the expres-
sions of the Prime Minister of India
also gave the impression of ‘tit for
tat’. India's displeasure with Justin
Trudeau can also be gauged from
the fact that PM Modi posted a wel-
come video of every leader partici-
pating in this grand event, but Justin
Trudeau remained deprived of it.
No note of welcome to Trudeau was
posted by PM Modi. In fact, India has
always expressed serious objection
to the activities of Khalistani sup-
porters going on in Canada. Its echo
was also heard from Canada when
Trudeau did not come to the dinner
organized in honor of G-20 leaders
by President Draupadi Murmu. When
the Canadian PM's plane developed
some technical glitch and he was
forced to stay in India for additional
30-32 hours, India offered him a
special plane, but Trudeau rejected
this offer.
t seems that the opposi-
tion camp has also given
Sanatan debate a lot of
thought, perhaps that is why Stalin's
son Udhayanidhi is making so much
noise on this issue. That is why he
has deliberately compared Sanatan
with dengue, and at other times
with malaria or corona. The issue of
Sanatan Dharma has now become
an acid test for the opposition alliance
too. Unlike the South, for the opposi-
tion in North India, Sanatan means
casteism. Anyway, opposition parties
have always been taking advantage
of the opposition to Brahminism in
South India, because castes like OBC
and Dalits have always been troubled
by Brahmins. Keeping in mind the
OBC and Dalit castes, the top leader-
ship of BJP has told its leaders and
speakers that ‘they should not indulge
in Sanatan debate unnecessarily.’
While at the G-20 summit, guests
are served pure vegetarian food,
the video of Rahul Gandhi with Lalu
Yadav, in which he is seen cooking
special Champaran meat, went viral.
This opposition alliance could be a
well-thought-out strategy. Perhaps
this is the reason why on one hand
BJP talks about Ram Mandir, while on
one hand SP leader Swami Prasad
Maurya and RJD leader and Bihar
Education Minister Chandrashekhar
raise their voice against Ramcharit
Manas, Chandrashekhar raised the
issue that ‘there is potassium cyanide
in Ramcharit Manas’. In the last two
Lok Sabha elections i.e. 2014 and
2019, OBC voters had supported the
BJP and now the I.N.D.I.A. alliance is
trying to reverse this mathematics.

The term ‘Modi
means Milestone’ is
now being attributed to
PM Narendra Modi.
What does this entail?
Dr Jagdeesh Chandra:
Today it feels that the
entire nation has surren-
dered to Modi. Any
milestone, any destina-
tion, they all end at
Modi. This is a miracle
in itself since there is
one person who has
gone beyond any mile-
stone or parameter. So
practically we should be
saying that Modi has no
milestone. Look at it po-
litically, there is no oth-
er option to Modi. He is
the prime minister for
the past nine years and it
surely appears that he
will become the Prime
Minister again in 2024.
Now look at it from the
economical standpoint.
Nation has achieved
something which has
not been achieved be-
fore. Be it economy, co-
rona pandemic, Article
370, infrastructure de-
velopment, everywhere
Modi is the milestone. It
was said in the begin-
ning that Modi means
Milestones, but I would
amend it and say that
Modi has not mile-
stones.
Don’t you feel that af-
ter the successful G20
Presidency, it has also
been stamped that in di-
plomacy too, Modi is
the milestone?
Exactly. It is true that
Narendra Modi has em-
powered Bharat. Today,
India’s goodwill and
branding, after G20, is
miraculous and won-
derful. As far as G20 is
concerned, he is in total
and complete command
and control of Indian
foreign policy. He has
reformed our foreign
policy and brought it in
tune with out national
interest. G20 is the epit-
ome of foreign policy. It
has two parts. In the
first part we saw how
US President Biden
asked for Modi’s auto-
graph, Australian Prime
Minister called Modi
‘the boss’, PM of Papua
New Guinea touched
Modi’s feet. That was
the first part. Now look
at the second part. Get-
ting the New Delhi res-
olution pass unani-
mously is a major de-
velopment in itself.
What happened in Bali
could not go forward
and as a result it failed.
But on the other hand,
the efforts made in Del-
hi were a success. Just
imagine how difficult it
was to make Russia,
China and USA to agree
on one point as there
were sensitive issues
like Ukraine. But they
agreed on all issues. For
this, team of bureau-
crats and PM’s own
team worked hard
around the clock and
ultimately Modi suc-
ceeded in getting
cleared the New Delhi
declaration. Today, on
the same declaration,
Russia says they are
happy with it and on the
other hand, France says
it is Europe’s victory.
So Modi has managed
all contradictions
through his foreign pol-
icy and hence it can
surely be said that Modi
is at the epitome of for-
eign policy and it can be
said for sure that he is
the numero uno diplo-
matic victor too! Modi
has no parallels in for-
eign policy and diplo-
macy in the world!
So does this mean
that after G20, Modi
has further emerged as
a ‘Vishwaguru’? Is it
really that the premier
of every nation wants to
meet PM Modi for eco-
nomic and political rea-
sons?
He has already become
a ‘Vishwaguru’. Today
he is already seen as a
global leader. You have
witnessed his craze dur-
ing G20, during his for-
eign visits we have wit-
nessed what craze peo-
ple have for him, I just
told you the remarks of
Australian PM and US
President, so he has be-
come Vishwaguru in a
way. Rajnath Singh, cit-
ing PM as Vishwaguru,
recently added the term
Vishwa-Bandhu, but in
reality the point is that
Modi’s aura, his stature
and personality has be-
come greater than
Bharat. It may not go
down well with few in-
dividuals, but it is a fact.
So when we talk about
Vishwaguru, we are not
talking about India, but
are rather talking about
Modi. Rajnath Singh
had to say that Modi’s
vision, popularity and
aura is wonderful. So
broadly we can con-
clude that he has be-
come Vishwaguru, and
if there is some short-
fall, then he is walking
on the path to reach that
pedestal.
In G20 meetings, PM
took the mission to sixty
cities. How do you rate
this move?
This is a major develop-
ment. It is Narendra
Modi’s brainchild which
ensured to escalate the
entire development to
such an extant that it be-
comes a stand-off devel-
opment not just in India,
but across the world
too! In its several years
of being in existence,
such a grand-scale or-
ganisation of G20 meets
have never happened
wherein 200 meetings
have happened across
sixty cities. All the for-
eign delegated, the am-
bassadors and various
other dignitaries were
elated as they explored
the cities, culture, life,
food and received gifts
too, all while ensuring
that India’s develop-
ment is shown to them
first hand. As a result of
this, the entire world
is praising Modi
over G20. It was
a well thought
out plan of Nar-
endra Modi
which has giv-
en great results.
Thus, people
from for-
eign nations are making
a beeline to India be-
cause there are political
and economic reasons
behind it. India is a huge
market and is one of the
biggest consumer mar-
ket. Today, economy has
taken a front seat and
politics has taken the
back seat. So, world
over, nation’s politics is
being dominated by
economic reasons and
not by political reasons.
In the days to come,
New Delhi, and in par-
ticular Narendra Modi’s
New Delhi, will be the
most sought after desti-
nation for foreign digni-
taries.
But Congress has ob-
jected as to why Mall-
ikarjun Kharge and So-
nia Gandhi were
not invited for
G20 dinner.
What was the
reason be-
hind this?
There is no
reason but
sometimes it
happens that
those who sent out the
invites, forget to do so
out of their casual ap-
proach. I don’t think
there was some strategy
or ulterior motive of not
inviting them, simply
because there were sev-
eral others present who
tow the opposition line.
Nitish Kumar was there,
Mamata Banerjee was
there so were several
others. But then there
were a few Chief Min-
isters who did not at-
tend the dinner like Ke-
jriwal and Bhagwant
Mann. Perhaps Nitish
came so as to give mes-
sage to INDIA Alliance
that his door are open
for BJP too. Mamata
came for the program so
some critics claimed
that perhaps due to ED
issue against her neph-
ew Abhishek she came
so that Delhi becomes
slightly soft on him.
Everyone that reached
there did so out of their
own situation. But this
is true that when Sonia
and Kharge were not
given an invite, so Ra-
hul Gandhi raised the
issue. I feel that may be
it was some procedural
mistake. So many peo-
ple came and went, and
did so singing praises
for Modi. If these two
had come, they would
not have been able to
tow a line different
than PM’s.
 Has PM Modi
brought down the fort
of the Opposition alli-
ance through this suc-
cessful organisation of
G20?
Definitely they must be
demoralised. Modi’s
aura and persona has
captured the hearts and
minds of the general
public to the extent that
everyone feels as if we
have won a war against
Pakistan. This is the nar-
rative that has come out
of the G20 meet. While
there is direct competi-
tion with the opposition,
but there is no clear face
of the opposition to say
that the competition is
between Modi and so
and so leader. A major
drawback of the opposi-
tion alliance and their
biggest strategical mis-
take is that it is still not
clear who is the face of
that opposition. So op-
position unity recently
broke away when AAP
said it would contest the
election on its own. The
claim that a united op-
position will be a suc-
cess is highly suspi-
cious. So since there is
no viable alternative to
Modi, it wont be wrong
to say that he has al-
ready won the 2024
election.
During the G20
meets, Rahul Gandhi
was making random
comments from foreign
soil. When will Rahul
become a mature politi-
cian?
He certainly is politi-
cally immature. He may
be miffed at Modi and
he may be disgruntled
with the success of G20.
But this was not the
right time to sit some-
where in foreign land
and say that Modi is
hiding the poor and ill
areas and people of In-
dia. What really hap-
pened was that there are
slums in cities and
when VIPs come, these
slums are not shown to
them directly and some-
times arrangements are
made so that they do not
become visible. So
when such arrange-
ments were being made,
someone must have
clicked a picture and
made the pic go viral.
Rahul, in turn, picked
up this issue asking
why Modi is trying to
hide the slums and the
animals tied there. This
is political immaturity.
It does not suit the sta-
tus and dignity of Rahul
Gandhi. It should not
have happened.
Chinese President Xi
Jinping did not take
part in G20 meetings.
Why did this happen?
See, this is best known
to the Chinese President
himself. But I am sure
he must be thinking over
his decision that Modi
has taken all the lime-
light. In fact, China has
found itself all alone.
Everyone is fed up of
China’s expansionist
motives as it at times
threatens Vietnam or
Korea or at times lays
claim over Arunachal or
threatens USA in South-
China sea. So everyone
has got together during
this G20 meet. had Chi-
nese President been
there, perhaps then all
the nations might not
have been able to come
united against China.
But he did not come and
I believe this was his
strategic mistake. Now
China is kind of isolated
among the league of na-
tions.

Modi’s leadership has put India in a
driving position to the extent that
nations that do not look eye to eye
have agreed upon the ‘New Delhi
Declaration’, how Modi’s foreign
policy and diplomacy has paved
the way for a resurgent India that
is being looked upon by the world,
and specially the smaller nations,
to lead the global humanity.

DR JAGDEESH CHANDRA the general con- science of the masses, seventy three years of age is consid- ered to be the twilight years of an individual...a time when they retire from worldly activi- ties and concentrate their lim- ited energies on maintaining their health and perhaps spend- ing time with their grandchil- dren, if any. In fact, in the thoughts of the masses, people of old age are quickly ‘written off’, as they can not move about with the same pace as the ever moving world. However, this is not the mould Prime Minister Naren- dra Modi fits in.As he turns 73 years of age today, he is sprightly as lively as any 27 years old youth! Working over twenty hours a day, PM main- tains the same energy, focus and zeal of any youth of today. perhaps that is another reason why the youth of the ‘modern world’ finds in Modi an icon they can resonate with! Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday comes at a moment when he is at the epit- ome of his political journey and has virtually acquired the status of a global leader and a ‘Vishwa Guru’. G20’s unani- mous New Delhi declaration proves Modi’s exceptional dip- lomatic talent to get a consen- sus vote on all G20 resolutions, including the controversial Ukraine Resolution. Almost the entire world now acknowl- edges his international stature, aura and political appeal. Modi is again set to surprise the na- tion with some major an- nouncements in the coming up special Parliament session be- ginning from 18th September. His‘OneNation,OneElection’ move, the renaming of India as ‘Bharat’, a 33 percent women reservation and his ‘quota within quota’ (OBCs) move may seriously upset the Oppo- sition alliance I.N.D.I.A., where Modi has gone too far to have a decisive win in 2024. His all political resolutions, irrespectiveofBJP’smajorityor no majority in Rajya Sabha, are set to sail through, where his principal trouble-shooter Amit Shahisallsettohavehis‘repeat performance’this time also. On his birthday, Modi is not talking of 2024 and 2029 elec- tions, rather he is confidently projecting his Vision of New India in the year 2047. His popularity graph has risen to that extent that September 17 will look like as if the entire nation is celebrating his birth- day. Once again, Modi’s birth- day celebrations are set to steal the limelight of Congress’ CWC meeting at Hyderabad. Moreover, PM Modi will unveil a new scheme, on his birthday, for small craftsmen and artisans called PM Vish- wakarma Scheme on the occa- sion of Vishwakarma Jayanti. The aim of the scheme is to aid craftsmen and artisans not just financially by providing loans at minimal interest rate, but also to keep alive the tradition, culture, and heritage of past centuries by the way of local products and sculptures. On the day when the ‘mira- cle man of Indian politics’turns 73, First India wishes Narendra Modi, the phenomenon, all the best for the year ahead... HAPPYBIRTHDAYMRPM! IN PRIME MINISTER NARENDRA MODI

  • 8. TOP TWEETS SPIRITUAL SPEAK Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do. BHAGAVAD GITA IN-DEPTH OPPOSITION MUST WITHDRAW CALL TO BOYCOTT ANCHORS he Opposition bloc’s decision to boycott 14 TV anchors for what it calls their hate-pro- moting stance has come in for strong criti- cism from the media and the BJP. No Congress leader will participate in programmes hosted by these anchors from different channels as they are “in the WhatsApp group of BJP’s media cell and spread ha- tred in the country”. The decision was taken at the first meeting of the I.N.D.I.A. coordination commit- tee held recently. The BJPcalled the decision draconian and said that it won’t help the Congress in elections. The decision of I.N.D.I.A. also reflects the Emergency-era mindset when the government had imposed censorship. The National Broadcasters and Digital Association also slammed the decision as “an attack on democracy”. The Opposition bloc should juxtapose its decision with what the Supreme Court said while extending protection to three Editors of the Editors Guild of India and end the boycott call against 14 anchors. Won’t it be violative of the anchors’ freedom of speech? T IS IT TIME FOR ANOTHER SURGICAL STRIKE IN PoK he Indian Army has said that three Pakistan- sponsored terrorists were killed in an encoun- ter near Line of Control in the Baramulla sec- tor of Jammu and Kashmir. The point emphasized by the army at a press briefing was that the Pakistan army provided cover fire to help one of the injured terrorists to return to the Pakistani-controlled side. The body of thegrievouslyinjuredterrorist, whoisbelievedtohave died on the other side, could not be retrieved. Two others were killed while trying to infiltrate. The encounter comes days after an army colonel, a major and a deputy superintendent of JK police were killed in a gun- fight with terrorists inAnantnag district’s Kokernag area. As the army asserted the involvement of Paki- stan in infiltrating ultras and the opera- tion to flush out ter- rorists entered its fourth day, there was a clamour in certain quarters to destroy the terror shelters in the Pakistan Occu- pied Kashmir. In 2020 the Indian Army destroyed four launch pads in PoK in a counter offensive against ceasefire vio- lation by the Pakistan army. But in 2019 India carried out a daring early morning air attack on terror camps in Balakot to avenge the killing of 40 CRPF personnel in Srinagar. The of- fensive codenamed Bandar was meant to send a strong message to Pakistan that India won’t hesitate from strong retaliation in case terrorists continued to trouble India. Fresh infiltration with the help of the Pakistan army is an act of provocation which calls for another surgical strike. If a surgical strike is undertaken it will be in keeping with Prime Minister Modi’s no-non- sense image. We can set example of to the world, how such mammoth exer- cise can be conceived and delivered by the mother of democracy. Meeting of minds is the first step, followed harmonious Coordination between Legislature, Executive and Judiciary to realize this dream. This brilliant idea appears to be challeng- ing, at present. However, those who dare to dream big have the perseverance to fulfill their dreams and pioneer the change. The well meaning citizens of this country look up to our dynamic PM and learned politicians, to be the har- binger of Change. The his- tory will salute their efforts. DREAMOFINDIANVOTERS “ONENATION,ONEELECTION” n November 2020, PM Modi said h t t p s : / / thewire.in/ politics/modi-one-nation- one-election-single-vot- ers-list: “One Nation, One Election’isn’t just an issue of deliberation but also a need of the country.” It sounded like a dream come true to all Indians. In De- cember 2020, I also penned one article about ‘One Na- tion One Election’which a popular Govt like that of Narendra Modi, re-elected in 2019 could implement. It has taken this idea many years to finally start find- ing favours in the corridors of power. BJP may have drawn and dusted this idea just before elections, with some political gains in mind and I.N.D.I.A. is op- posing it, for similar rea- sons. Rising above the party politics and immedi- ate gains, if we consider this idea with ‘Nation First’ attitude, it will be a trend setter from the larg- est democracy, for the world to emulate. HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE Historically, elections dur- ing the first two decades after Independence were held simultaneously, i.e., during 1951-52, 1957, 1962 and 1967. Dissolu- tion of certain assemblies, followed by the dissolu- tion of the Lok Sabha and general elections in 1971, along with indiscriminate use of Article 356 (Presi- dent’s Rule) disrupted the schedule of simultaneous elections, forever. THE NEED This need emerges from multiple reasons, with a desire to streamline the electoral process and over- come the challenges asso- ciated with the existing system. In the present sys- tem, India witnesses a re- curring electoral cycle, with elections at various levels taking place, at dif- ferent times. The conse- quences of this staggered approach are many, includ- ing huge and avoidable election-related expenses, frequent political distrac- tions, and severe disrup- tions in governance and policy formulation. Money and administrative ex- pense will be drastically cut. In last general elec- tions of 2019, 610 political parties contested and the expense was approximate- ly Rs.60,000 crores. WHY THE OPPOSITION In the lighter vein, if elec- tions are held only once in five years, the politicians will be fairly unemployed. However,thefollowingrea- sons merit consideration:- l Consensus for Reforms: Politi- cal consensus is essential, for the large scale amend- ments. Ratification of the amendments by more than half of the states will also be required. This would also need agree- ment to curtail the terms of some state assemblies. There is need to rise above the petty politics, keeping the ‘Nation First’ ethos in mind. l Political Gains: Simultane- ous elections favour large national parties like BJP. With Congress vastly mar- ginalized, the opposition to BJP is mainly from coali- tion of regional parties, who feel that they will be at great disadvantage. l Amendments to the Constitu- tion: Besides, a large number of amendments to laws, rules and regulations would need to be carried out, making the task very arduous, if not impossible. l Legal Scrutiny: All these large scale amendments to the Constitution will result in hundreds of cases land- ing up in courts as these will be considered against the basic constitutional fabric. In all probability, these will be challenged in the Supreme Court because the fundamental structure of the constitution cannot be altered. l Simultaneous elec- tions threaten the federal character of our democ- racy. l In case of hung Lok Sabha, there is no provision for President’s rule like in case of states. ROADMAP The first step has been taken by appointing a committee, headed by for- mer President Shri Ram Nath Kovind, to examine the possibility of simulta- neous elections. The con- cept must be navigated thru the intricacies of fed- eralism, as it necessitates cooperation and consensus among states, each with its unique political dynamics and agenda. The imple- mentation could be carried out in phases. However, the implementation of such a reform is far from straightforward. It in- volves not only practical challenges but also com- plex legal and constitu- tional considerations. Cer- tainly, the learned mem- bers of the committee will find answers to all such impediments. LOGISTICS CHALLENGES Simultaneous elections in a country of approx 100 crore voters will be a logis- tic nightmare. There will be massive requirements of staff, manpower, police forces and other logistics for conduct of this event of such gigantic proportions. Additional EVMs and VVPAT will have to be purchased, deployed in time, used and warehoused for the next elections. The Election commission has pegged the additional ex- penditure at approx Rs 10,000 Crore. THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL In December 2020, I also penned one article about ‘One Nation One Election’ which a popular Govt like that of Narendra Modi, re-elected in 2019 could implement. It has taken this idea many years to finally start finding favours in the corridors of power. BJP may have drawn and dusted this idea just before elections, with some political gains in mind and I.N.D.I.A. is opposing it, for similar reasons. Rising above the party politics and immediate gains, if we consider this idea with ‘Nation First’ attitude, it will be a trend setter from the largest democracy, for the world to emulate. The primary engine driving this growth within the lo- cal economy is tourism. Tourism is also key to achieving equitable growth. Tourism today, has moved beyond elit- ism and lavish 5-star ac- commodations and in- stead focuses on provid- ing unique experiences. Heritage hotels are piv- otal in this paradigm shift, as they redefine the concept of luxury and create unique and memo- rable experiences for visitors. This was stated by Former CEO, Niti Aayog, Mr. Amitabh Kant at the inaugural ses- sion of the 10th Indian Heritage Hotels Conven- tion being held at the Ti- jara Fort in Alwar. Kant further empha- sized the importance of revitalizing a place’s cul- tural heritage by breath- ing life into its roots. Tra- ditional art forms, cui- sines, architecture, and more should be actively promoted as distinctive products. The govern- ment, in this regard, should play the role of a catalyst, facilitating these efforts and ensuring the provision of last-mile connectivity. However, the responsibility for the operation and manage- ment of these ventures should rest with private partners. In response, the expres- sions of the Prime Minister of India also gave the impression of ‘tit for tat’. India's displeasure with Justin Trudeau can also be gauged from the fact that PM Modi posted a wel- come video of every leader partici- pating in this grand event, but Justin Trudeau remained deprived of it. No note of welcome to Trudeau was posted by PM Modi. In fact, India has always expressed serious objection to the activities of Khalistani sup- porters going on in Canada. Its echo was also heard from Canada when Trudeau did not come to the dinner organized in honor of G-20 leaders by President Draupadi Murmu. When the Canadian PM's plane developed some technical glitch and he was forced to stay in India for additional 30-32 hours, India offered him a special plane, but Trudeau rejected this offer. t seems that the opposi- tion camp has also given Sanatan debate a lot of thought, perhaps that is why Stalin's son Udhayanidhi is making so much noise on this issue. That is why he has deliberately compared Sanatan with dengue, and at other times with malaria or corona. The issue of Sanatan Dharma has now become an acid test for the opposition alliance too. Unlike the South, for the opposi- tion in North India, Sanatan means casteism. Anyway, opposition parties have always been taking advantage of the opposition to Brahminism in South India, because castes like OBC and Dalits have always been troubled by Brahmins. Keeping in mind the OBC and Dalit castes, the top leader- ship of BJP has told its leaders and speakers that ‘they should not indulge in Sanatan debate unnecessarily.’ While at the G-20 summit, guests are served pure vegetarian food, the video of Rahul Gandhi with Lalu Yadav, in which he is seen cooking special Champaran meat, went viral. This opposition alliance could be a well-thought-out strategy. Perhaps this is the reason why on one hand BJP talks about Ram Mandir, while on one hand SP leader Swami Prasad Maurya and RJD leader and Bihar Education Minister Chandrashekhar raise their voice against Ramcharit Manas, Chandrashekhar raised the issue that ‘there is potassium cyanide in Ramcharit Manas’. In the last two Lok Sabha elections i.e. 2014 and 2019, OBC voters had supported the BJP and now the I.N.D.I.A. alliance is trying to reverse this mathematics. Dr JAGDEESH CHANDRA, CMD Editor-in-Chief THOUGHT OF THE DAY Postal Reg No. JPC/004/2022-24 Jaipur, Sunday | September 17, 2023 www.firstindia.co.in firstindia.co.in/epapers/jaipur thefirstindia thefirstindia thefirstindia The term ‘Modi means Milestone’ is now being attributed to PM Narendra Modi. What does this entail? Dr Jagdeesh Chandra: Today it feels that the entire nation has surren- dered to Modi. Any milestone, any destina- tion, they all end at Modi. This is a miracle in itself since there is one person who has gone beyond any mile- stone or parameter. So practically we should be saying that Modi has no milestone. Look at it po- litically, there is no oth- er option to Modi. He is the prime minister for the past nine years and it surely appears that he will become the Prime Minister again in 2024. Now look at it from the economical standpoint. Nation has achieved something which has not been achieved be- fore. Be it economy, co- rona pandemic, Article 370, infrastructure de- velopment, everywhere Modi is the milestone. It was said in the begin- ning that Modi means Milestones, but I would amend it and say that Modi has not mile- stones. Don’t you feel that af- ter the successful G20 Presidency, it has also been stamped that in di- plomacy too, Modi is the milestone? Exactly. It is true that Narendra Modi has em- powered Bharat. Today, India’s goodwill and branding, after G20, is miraculous and won- derful. As far as G20 is concerned, he is in total and complete command and control of Indian foreign policy. He has reformed our foreign policy and brought it in tune with out national interest. G20 is the epit- ome of foreign policy. It has two parts. In the first part we saw how US President Biden asked for Modi’s auto- graph, Australian Prime Minister called Modi ‘the boss’, PM of Papua New Guinea touched Modi’s feet. That was the first part. Now look at the second part. Get- ting the New Delhi res- olution pass unani- mously is a major de- velopment in itself. What happened in Bali could not go forward and as a result it failed. But on the other hand, the efforts made in Del- hi were a success. Just imagine how difficult it was to make Russia, China and USA to agree on one point as there were sensitive issues like Ukraine. But they agreed on all issues. For this, team of bureau- crats and PM’s own team worked hard around the clock and ultimately Modi suc- ceeded in getting cleared the New Delhi declaration. Today, on the same declaration, Russia says they are happy with it and on the other hand, France says it is Europe’s victory. So Modi has managed all contradictions through his foreign pol- icy and hence it can surely be said that Modi is at the epitome of for- eign policy and it can be said for sure that he is the numero uno diplo- matic victor too! Modi has no parallels in for- eign policy and diplo- macy in the world! So does this mean that after G20, Modi has further emerged as a ‘Vishwaguru’? Is it really that the premier of every nation wants to meet PM Modi for eco- nomic and political rea- sons? He has already become a ‘Vishwaguru’. Today he is already seen as a global leader. You have witnessed his craze dur- ing G20, during his for- eign visits we have wit- nessed what craze peo- ple have for him, I just told you the remarks of Australian PM and US President, so he has be- come Vishwaguru in a way. Rajnath Singh, cit- ing PM as Vishwaguru, recently added the term Vishwa-Bandhu, but in reality the point is that Modi’s aura, his stature and personality has be- come greater than Bharat. It may not go down well with few in- dividuals, but it is a fact. So when we talk about Vishwaguru, we are not talking about India, but are rather talking about Modi. Rajnath Singh had to say that Modi’s vision, popularity and aura is wonderful. So broadly we can con- clude that he has be- come Vishwaguru, and if there is some short- fall, then he is walking on the path to reach that pedestal. In G20 meetings, PM took the mission to sixty cities. How do you rate this move? This is a major develop- ment. It is Narendra Modi’s brainchild which ensured to escalate the entire development to such an extant that it be- comes a stand-off devel- opment not just in India, but across the world too! In its several years of being in existence, such a grand-scale or- ganisation of G20 meets have never happened wherein 200 meetings have happened across sixty cities. All the for- eign delegated, the am- bassadors and various other dignitaries were elated as they explored the cities, culture, life, food and received gifts too, all while ensuring that India’s develop- ment is shown to them first hand. As a result of this, the entire world is praising Modi over G20. It was a well thought out plan of Nar- endra Modi which has giv- en great results. Thus, people from for- eign nations are making a beeline to India be- cause there are political and economic reasons behind it. India is a huge market and is one of the biggest consumer mar- ket. Today, economy has taken a front seat and politics has taken the back seat. So, world over, nation’s politics is being dominated by economic reasons and not by political reasons. In the days to come, New Delhi, and in par- ticular Narendra Modi’s New Delhi, will be the most sought after desti- nation for foreign digni- taries. But Congress has ob- jected as to why Mall- ikarjun Kharge and So- nia Gandhi were not invited for G20 dinner. What was the reason be- hind this? There is no reason but sometimes it happens that those who sent out the invites, forget to do so out of their casual ap- proach. I don’t think there was some strategy or ulterior motive of not inviting them, simply because there were sev- eral others present who tow the opposition line. Nitish Kumar was there, Mamata Banerjee was there so were several others. But then there were a few Chief Min- isters who did not at- tend the dinner like Ke- jriwal and Bhagwant Mann. Perhaps Nitish came so as to give mes- sage to INDIA Alliance that his door are open for BJP too. Mamata came for the program so some critics claimed that perhaps due to ED issue against her neph- ew Abhishek she came so that Delhi becomes slightly soft on him. Everyone that reached there did so out of their own situation. But this is true that when Sonia and Kharge were not given an invite, so Ra- hul Gandhi raised the issue. I feel that may be it was some procedural mistake. So many peo- ple came and went, and did so singing praises for Modi. If these two had come, they would not have been able to tow a line different than PM’s.  Has PM Modi brought down the fort of the Opposition alli- ance through this suc- cessful organisation of G20? Definitely they must be demoralised. Modi’s aura and persona has captured the hearts and minds of the general public to the extent that everyone feels as if we have won a war against Pakistan. This is the nar- rative that has come out of the G20 meet. While there is direct competi- tion with the opposition, but there is no clear face of the opposition to say that the competition is between Modi and so and so leader. A major drawback of the opposi- tion alliance and their biggest strategical mis- take is that it is still not clear who is the face of that opposition. So op- position unity recently broke away when AAP said it would contest the election on its own. The claim that a united op- position will be a suc- cess is highly suspi- cious. So since there is no viable alternative to Modi, it wont be wrong to say that he has al- ready won the 2024 election. During the G20 meets, Rahul Gandhi was making random comments from foreign soil. When will Rahul become a mature politi- cian? He certainly is politi- cally immature. He may be miffed at Modi and he may be disgruntled with the success of G20. But this was not the right time to sit some- where in foreign land and say that Modi is hiding the poor and ill areas and people of In- dia. What really hap- pened was that there are slums in cities and when VIPs come, these slums are not shown to them directly and some- times arrangements are made so that they do not become visible. So when such arrange- ments were being made, someone must have clicked a picture and made the pic go viral. Rahul, in turn, picked up this issue asking why Modi is trying to hide the slums and the animals tied there. This is political immaturity. It does not suit the sta- tus and dignity of Rahul Gandhi. It should not have happened. Chinese President Xi Jinping did not take part in G20 meetings. Why did this happen? See, this is best known to the Chinese President himself. But I am sure he must be thinking over his decision that Modi has taken all the lime- light. In fact, China has found itself all alone. Everyone is fed up of China’s expansionist motives as it at times threatens Vietnam or Korea or at times lays claim over Arunachal or threatens USA in South- China sea. So everyone has got together during this G20 meet. had Chi- nese President been there, perhaps then all the nations might not have been able to come united against China. But he did not come and I believe this was his strategic mistake. Now China is kind of isolated among the league of na- tions.
