ESSENCE OF THE ROLE, CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Lead and deliver advanced strategic marketing and communications campaigns
that integrate a range of traditional and new media tactics, as part of the
overarching communications service delivery model which aims to garner the best
results for key stakeholders; including but not limited to, customers; clients:
media; partners; and, sponsors as well as employees and volunteers.
Inspire, shape and monitor relationships with stakeholders by influencing and
managing expectations to produce positive and constructive outcomes.
MAIN ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
• Manifesting Crimson Communications, a successfully ran an independent
arts and entertainment consultancy servicing clients locally and worldwide
for 13 years.
• Being an integral figure in establishing an iconic dance festival brand
(Stereosonic™) via capacity as Publicity Manager (2007), Artist PR
Manager (2008), and National Media Advisor (2009).
• As Senior Publicist on Melbourne International Arts Festival, successfully
setting up OB with Patti Smith and arranging on ground PR as part of the
extensive music program that year.
• As Promotions Coordinator for Melbourne International Film Festival,
securing optimal on ground visibility for the duration of the Festival and
coordinating the ‘graduate program’ with Australia’s leading young
filmmakers.
• Other highlights include:
o Successive projects from Mollison Communications including 2
Cirque du Soleil shows and Absinthe.
o Brand work to reposition Billboard as a leading ‘venue’ for live acts,
(later the venue renamed itself 170 Russell Street).
o Securing earned (not paid!) media coverage with clever lifestyle
angles around world-class DJ Carl Cox.
o Securing media coverage for ‘Kenny’ The Movie before it became
iconic by way of setting up interviews with him in character (which
had taken some convincing of media).
o Playing a key part alongside my industry leading clients, to break
Booka Shade in Australia and also working on various releases and
touring acts from their (previously co-owned) record label Get
Physical.
KEY ACTIVITIES:
• Plan and implement national and local marketing and pr campaigns within
arts & entertainment, corporate, community and government sectors with
a specialisation in arts, film and music including, but not limited to, major
events, tours and releases.
• Provide strategic advice to clients in relation to direct media buying and,
when specialist communications services are called for, also offer guidance
to procure external agencies with required specialisations including,
graphic design, media buying (traditional through to native advertising),
digital optimisation and more.
• Manage relationships with external agencies to achieve marketing
communications objectives on time and within budget.

• [Publicity/PR/Artist Relations]
o Deliver sophisticated, proactive and reactive media support to
clients; including fielding inquiries and advocating on behalf of the
client in an active and consistent manner.
o Write and produce engaging content for websites, web 2.0
technologies, and newsletters as well as media releases, press
statements, speeches and more.
o Pitch news and interviews to national and local media - above and
below the line platforms - including TV, Radio, Press, Online as well
as approach network of influencers and like-minded advocates via
appropriate channels.
! Leverage opportunities for clients by way of Crimson
Communication’s established media relations using
consistent messaging and when available, via the spruiking
of relevant artist/talent.
! Coordinate phoners, media calls, appearances as well as
conferences, outside broadcasts and media briefings.
o Direct and put into operation the PR for large-scale events including
new and established Festivals, national tours and local
performances for high profile artists and brands.
o Develop and maintain crisis management plans, informed by
appropriate risk analysis processes, to maintain reputation of the
organisation
o Advise on national and local media spend on campaigns.

o Procure, maintain and activate, paid and in-kind sponsorships and
arrange acquittals.
! Identify and negotiate partnerships
! Develop all marketing materials (collateral and new media)
and merchandise using relevant services including agencies
and in house designers to ensure all contractual agreements
are adhered to, particularly in relation to the us of
intellectual property
o Conceive and implement promotions plans as part of the broader
marketing strategy
o Produce, deliver and install poster sites (banners, video screens,
posters, tram panels, etc.)
• [Research]
o Actively engage in research with the aim to ‘keep the finger on the
pulse’ in relation to campaigns, customer engagement and client
concerns
o Facilitate audience research as it relates to film screenings
• [General and operational management of Crimson Communications]
o Write tenders and proposals;
o Manage resources including budget expenditure;
o Negotiate contracts in relation to clients, media and/or
sponsorships;
o Coach and/or supervise staff members, interns, volunteers along
with external teams; and,
o Manage stakeholder relations.
