This document summarizes a study that evaluated a new liver support treatment called Hepa Wash in pigs with acute liver failure. Pigs underwent surgery to induce acute liver failure and were randomly assigned to either a control group or a Hepa Wash treatment group. The Hepa Wash group showed significantly higher survival rates and improvements in organ function compared to controls. A separate pilot study also found improvements in pigs treated with another liver support system called MARS. The results suggest Hepa Wash may be a safe and effective treatment for acute liver failure.
