Risk Assessment
Name Callum& Jess
Project Vegetarian food
Location
Hazard Person(s) / Equipment at
Risk
Risk Control Taken
Alcohol & Drugs Nobody
None as we will not be
using any alcohol or drug
related products.
Animals & Insects The Consumer
The kitchen will be
sanitized and the dog will
be kept in another
location.
Audiences Nobody
There will be no audience
when we are creating the
finished product.
Camera Cable And Grip Nobody
We will use a strap on the
camera to ensure that it
does not fall into the
product.
Confined Spaces Us
In the event of a fire, open
windows and ensure
extractor fans are turned
on. Also make sure smoke
alarms are working.
Derelict
Buildings/Dangerous
Structures
Nobody
We will be working in a
modern house which will
provide a safe
environment for the
creation of the product.
Electricity/Gas Us
Ensure appliances are
switched off when not in
use. Keep electric
products away from water.
If something were to
happen and something
were to go wrong we
would consult someone
who knew the proper
protocol to take to ensure
the problem is dealt with
effectively.
Creative Media Production
Fatigue/Long hours Us
We will be sure to take
regular breaks when
creating the product to
lessen the chances of
fatigue. If we were to work
long hours and get tired
we could switch and let
the other person take over
whilst someone has a
break or a nap to help
refresh themselves.
Fire/ Flammable Materials Us
Anything that could be
flammable will be kept
away from any heat
sources, preventing fire
hazards from occurring. If
a fire were to break out we
would either be able to
deal with a small fire
ourselves using an
extinguisher or a blanket.
If the fire was bad or got
out of control the fire
services would be called
to resolve the issue.
Hazardous Substances Us/The consumer
We must ensure to always
check the label of each
ingredient that could
possibly contain
substances that could be
hazardous. Any other non
food related products e.g.
bleach, cleaning products
– should be kept well
away from the food to
reduce the chances of
poisoning. If any
hazardous substances
were to get near the food
and contaminate it we
would scrap the product
and have to start from
fresh.
Heat/Cold/Extreme
Weather Nobody
We will be working indoors
the only issue maybe heat
contributing to fatigue; we
will counter this by
opening windows and
ensuring we keep the
Creative Media Production
room at a constant
temperature.
Laser/Strobes effects Nobody
There would be no strobe
lights as we would be in a
kitchen.
Machinery/Industrial
Equipment
Nobody
This project will require no
machinery at all to
complete therefore will not
be a hazard
Materials – Glass Etc Us/The Consumer
We must be careful to
ensure glass products
such as glasses or dishes
must be handled properly
and kept away from the
product as much as
possible.
Night Operation Nobody
There will be no night time
operation as our product
will be completed during
the day.
Noise Nobody
Loud noises will not be an
issue with this project as
we will be working within a
kitchen and will not be
exposed to overly loud
noises.
Public/Crowds Nobody
This is also covered under
the audiences section.
There will be no risk as
there will be no crowd.
Radiation Nobody
There will be no radiation
risks as we will be in a
safe environment free of
such things.
Smoking On Set Nobody
None of us in the group
smoke, and the house that
we will be cooking the
products is completely
smoke free.
Special Effect Nobody There will be no special
effects due to the nature of
this project.
Special Needs
(Inexperienced)
Us
Inexperience is classed as
a special need. Neither me
or my partner have much
experience in cooking
meals from scratch so this
could provide some
Creative Media Production
problems. We will try our
best to learn before hand
and will follow tutorials to
help us out.
First Aid Us
This will effect us as
neither of us knows first
aid. If one of us were to be
injured we would have to
consult someone who did
know first aid, i.e. Parents
Weapons Us
Whilst we wont directly be
dealing with weapons as
such. We will be using
knives, which may be
considered as a weapon.
We will be careful to use
them properly and be very
cautious when they are
being used. If we do injure
ourselves we will try to
resolve the situation but if
needed will consult
someone with more
experience.
Working with food Us/the Consumer
Due to our lack of
experience with the
general cooking and
handling of food. We must
be careful to follow
instruction as to not put
anyone at risk of things
like food poisoning
What Health and Safety legislation might you need to consider in this project?
The Health and Safety at Work, etc Act 1974
The Act defines general duties on employers, employees, contractors, suppliers of
goods and substances for use at work, persons in control of work premises, and
those who manage and maintain them, and persons in general. We would need to
consider this due to ensuring that we take precautions in terms of health and safety.
The Regulatory Reform ( Fire Safety ) Order 2005
With us taking our imagery in a kitchen, which involves several flammable sources in
a flammable environment – it is important to understand and respect fire safety
regulations in order to act quickly and captiously in the event of a fire.
