5. 1 A mighty fortress is our God,
A trusty shield and weapon;
He helps us free from ev'ry need
That hath us now o'ertaken.
The old evil foe
Now means deadly woe;
Deep guile and great might
Are his dread arms in fight;
On earth is not his equal.
2 With might of ours can naught
be done,
Soon were our loss effected;
But for us fights the Valiant One,
Whom God Himself elected.
Ask ye, Who is this?
Jesus Christ it is.
Of Sabaoth Lord,
And there's none other God;
He holds the field forever.
3 Though devils all the world
should fill,
All eager to devour us.
We tremble not, we fear no ill,
They shall not overpow'r us.
This world's prince may still
Scowl fierce as he will,
He can harm us none,
He's judged; the deed is done;
One little word can fell him.
4 The Word they still shall let
remain
Nor any thanks have for it;
He's by our side upon the plain
With His good gifts and Spirit.
And take they our life,
Goods, fame, child, and wife,
Let these all be gone,
Our vict'ry has been won;
The Kingdom ours remaineth.

7. Revelation 14:6-7
The Messages of the Three
Angels
6 Then I saw another
angel flying directly overhead,
with an eternal gospel to
proclaim to those who dwell on
earth, to every nation and tribe
and language and people. 7 And
he said with a loud voice, ―Fear
God and give him glory,
because the hour of his
judgment has come,
and worship him who made
heaven and earth, the sea and
thesprings of water.‖
8. Romans 3:19-28
19 Now we know that whatever the
law says it speaks to those who are
under the law, so that every mouth
may be stopped, and the whole
world may be held accountable to
God. 20 For by works of the law no
human being[a] will be justified in
his sight, since through the law
comes knowledge of sin.
The Righteousness of God
Through Faith
21 But now the righteousness of
Godhas been manifested apart from
the law, although the Law and the
Prophets bear witness to it— 22 the
righteousness of God through faith
in Jesus Christ for all who
believe. For there is no
distinction: 23 for all have sinned and
fall short of the glory of God, 24 and
are justified by his grace as a
gift, through the redemption that is
in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God put
forward as a propitiation by his
blood, to be received by faith. This
was to show God's righteousness,
because in his divine forbearance he
had passed overformer sins. 26 It was
to show his righteousness at the
present time, so that he might be just
and the justifier of the one who has
faith in Jesus.
27 Then what becomes of our
boasting? It is excluded. By what
kind of law? By a law of works? No,
but by the law of faith. 28 For we
hold that one is justified by
faith apart from works of the law.
9. John 8:31-36
The Truth Will Set You
Free
31 So Jesus said to the Jews
who had believed him, ―If
you abide in my word, you
are truly my
disciples, 32 and you
will know the truth, and the
truth will set you
free.‖ 33 They answered
him,―We are offspring of
Abraham and have never
been enslaved to anyone.
How is it that you say, ‗You
will become free‘?‖
34 Jesus answered
them, ―Truly, truly, I say to
you, everyone who
practices sin is a slave[a] to
sin. 35 The slave does not
remain in the house
forever; the son remains
forever. 36 So if the Son sets
you free, you will be free
indeed
10. Matthew 11:12-19
12 From the days of John the Baptist until
now the kingdom of heaven has suffered
violence,[a] and the violent take it by
force. 13 For all the Prophets and the Law
prophesied until John, 14 and if you are
willing to accept it, he is Elijah who is to
come. 15 He who has ears to hear,[b] let
him hear.
16 ―But to what shall I compare this
generation? It is like children sitting in
the marketplaces and calling to their
playmates,
17 ―‗We played the flute for you, and you
did not dance;
we sang a dirge, and you did not
mourn.‘
18 For John came neither eating nor
drinking, and they say, ‗He has a
demon.‘ 19 The Son of Man came eating
and drinking, and they say, ‗Look at him!
A glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax
collectors and sinners!‘ Yet wisdom is
justified by her deeds.‖[c]

12. REFORMATION DAY (October 31)
(observed the last Sunday in October)
Revelation 14:6–7
Romans 3:19–28
John 8:31–36
or Matthew 11:12–19
The Son of God Has Set Us Free from Sin and Death by His Grace
“Wisdom is justified by her deeds” (Matt. 11:19), and the true Wisdom of God, Christ Jesus the
incarnate Son, justifies us by His deeds. He prepares His way by the preaching of repentance,
but He has suffered the violence of the Law and voluntarily handed Himself over to violent
men, that we might eat and drink with Him in His Kingdom and “remain in the house forever”
(John 8:35). For He is “a friend of tax collectors and sinners” (Matt. 11:19), and He has
rescued us by His grace from the slavery of sin and death. By the proclamation of His eternal
Gospel “to those who dwell on earth, to every nation and tribe and language and people” (Rev.
14:6), “the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law” (Rom. 3:21), “that
He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus” (Rom. 3:26). And by
hearing the Gospel of Christ Jesus, “whom God put forward as a propitiation by His blood, to
be received by faith” (Rom. 3:25), “you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free”
(John 8:31–32).

Revelation 7:2-17
2 Then I saw another angel ascending from the
rising of the sun, with the seal of the living God,
and he called with a loud voice to the four angels
who had been given power to harm earth and sea, 3
saying, ―Do not harm the earth or the sea or the
trees, until we have sealed the servants[a] of our
God on their foreheads.‖ 4 And I heard the number
of the sealed, 144,000, sealed from every tribe of
the sons of Israel:
5 12,000 from the tribe of Judah were sealed,
12,000 from the tribe of Reuben,
12,000 from the tribe of Gad,
6 12,000 from the tribe of Asher,
12,000 from the tribe of Naphtali,
12,000 from the tribe of Manasseh,
7 12,000 from the tribe of Simeon,
12,000 from the tribe of Levi,
12,000 from the tribe of Issachar,
8 12,000 from the tribe of Zebulun,
12,000 from the tribe of Joseph,
12,000 from the tribe of Benjamin were sealed.
A Great Multitude from Every Nation
9 After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude
that no one could number, from every nation, from
all tribes and peoples and languages, standing
before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in
white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10
and crying out with a loud voice, ―Salvation
belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to
the Lamb!‖ 11 And all the angels were standing
around the throne and around the elders and the four
living creatures, and they fell on their faces before
the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying, ―Amen!
Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving
and honor and power and might be to our God
forever and ever! Amen.‖
13 Then one of the elders addressed me, saying,
where have they come?‖14 I said to him, ―Sir, you
know.‖ And he said to me, ―These are the ones
coming out of the great tribulation. They have
washed their robes and made them white in the
blood of the Lamb.
15 ―Therefore they are before the throne of God,
and serve him day and night in his temple;
and he who sits on the throne will shelter them
with his presence.
16 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst
anymore;
the sun shall not strike them,
nor any scorching heat.
17 For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be
their shepherd,
and he will guide them to springs of living water,
and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.‖
1 John 3:1-3
3 See what kind of love the Father has given to us,
that we should be called children of God; and so we
are. The reason why the world does not know us is
that it did not know him. 2 Beloved, we are God's
children now, and what we will be has not yet
appeared; but we know that when he appears[a] we
shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.
3 And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies
himself as he is pure.
Matthew 5:1-12
The Sermon on the Mount

righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
7 ―Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive
mercy.
8 ―Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see
God.
9 ―Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be

10 ―Blessed are those who are persecuted for

11 ―Blessed are you when others revile you and
persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you
falsely on my account. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for
your reward is great in heaven, for so they
persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Psalm 149
Sing to the LORD a New Song
149 Praise the LORD!
Sing to the LORD a new song,
his praise in the assembly of the godly!
2 Let Israel be glad in his Maker;
let the children of Zion rejoice in their King!
3 Let them praise his name with dancing,
making melody to him with tambourine and lyre!
4 For the LORD takes pleasure in his people;
he adorns the humble with salvation.
5 Let the godly exult in glory;
let them sing for joy on their beds.
6 Let the high praises of God be in their throats
and two-edged swords in their hands,
7 to execute vengeance on the nations
and punishments on the peoples,
8 to bind their kings with chains
and their nobles with fetters of iron,
9 to execute on them the judgment written!
This is honor for all his godly ones.
Praise the LORD!
