The call of isaiah
1.
2. The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz concerning Judah and Jerusalem,
which he saw during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah,
kings of Judah.
- Isaiah 1:1 NASB

3. 30 Though youths grow weary and tired, And vigorous young men
stumble badly, 31 Those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength;
They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get
tired, They will walk and not become weary.
- Isaiah 40:30-31 NASB

4. 1 In the year of King Uzziah's death I saw the Lord sitting on a throne,
lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple. 2
Seraphim stood above Him, each having six wings:with two he covered
his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And
one called out to another and said, " Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord of
hosts, The whole earth is full of His glory." 4 And the foundations of
the thresholds trembled at the voice of him who called out, while the
temple was filling with smoke.

5. Then I said, " Woe is me, for I am ruined! Because I am a man of
unclean lips, And I live among a people of unclean lips; For my eyes
have seen the King, the Lord of hosts."

6. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in
part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known.

7. 22 But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers
who delude themselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and
not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; 24
for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately
forgotten what kind of person he was. 25 But one who looks intently at
the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become
a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in
what he does.

8. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the
Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory,
just as from the Lord, the Spirit.

9. 6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a burning coal in his hand,
which he had taken from the altar with tongs. 7 He touched my mouth
with it and said, "Behold, this has touched your lips; and your iniquity is
taken away and your sin is forgiven."

10. Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, “Whom shall I send, and
who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

11. 9He said, “Go, and tell this people:
‘Keep on listening, but do not perceive;
Keep on looking, but do not understand.’
10“Render the hearts of this people insensitive,
Their ears dull,
And their eyes dim,
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
Hear with their ears,
Understand with their hearts,
And return and be healed.”

12. Then I said, “Lord, how long?” And He answered,
“Until cities are devastated and without inhabitant,
Houses are without people
And the land is utterly desolate,

13. "Isaiah is like a minature Bible. The first 39 chapters
(like the 39 books of the OldTestament) are filled with
judgement upon the immoral and idolatrous men. But
final 27 chapters (like the 27 books of the New
Testament) delcare a message of hope. The Messiah is
coming as a Savior and a Sovereign to bear a cross and
to wear a crown.”

14. 2Now it will come about that In the last days The mountain of the
house of the LORD Will be established as the chief of the mountains,
And will be raised above the hills; And all the nations will stream to it.
3And many peoples will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the
mountain of the LORD, To the house of the God of Jacob; That He may
teach us concerning His ways And that we may walk in His paths.” For
the law will go forth from Zion And the word of the LORD from
Jerusalem.

16. 6 For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us;
And the government will rest on His shoulders;
And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
7 There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace,
On the throne of David and over his kingdom,
To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness
From then on and forevermore.
The zeal of the LORD of hosts will accomplish this.

18. 36 Seeing the people, He felt compassion for them, because they were
distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then He
said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.
38 “Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into
His harvest.”

19. There is much to do, there's work on ev'ry
hand,
Hark! The cry for help comes ringing
through the land;
Jesus calls for reapers, I must active be,

me.

glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

21. 1 Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to
you, which also you received, in which also you stand, 2 by which also
you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you,
unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first
importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according
to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on
the third day according to the Scriptures

22. 3 Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ
Jesus have been baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we have been
buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was
raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might
walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have become united with Him in the
likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His
resurrection, 6 knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in
order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would
no longer be slaves to sin; 7 for he who has died is freed from sin.

Editor's Notes
Isaiah was a devoted prophet and serves us today as an example of what it means to be a servant of God!
3 kings who were most consistently faithful to God were David, Hezekiah, and Josiah. Isaiah was about 20 years old when we answered the call. Tiglath-Pileser III of Assyria had invaded Israel and taken captives. Isaiah served God for about 40 years and pened the following:
The cost of answering the call: 1. Isa. 20:1-6 the humiliation of wondering “naked” for 3 years. 2. Sawed in sunder with a wooden saw by King Manasseh according to Early Christian tradition in The Apocrypha and pseudepigraphal “Ascension of Isaiah”of the OT (Heb. 1:37)
Isaih is not the only one to whom the heavens have been opened and the throne of God Exposed: Jacob (Gen.28:10-22), The prophet Micaiah (1 Kings 22:19-20), Ezekiel (1:1,11), Christ when He was baptized (Matt. 3:16) and Stephen (Acts 7:54-60). Similar to some of the figures drawn by John in explaining his view into Heaven in the book of Revelation.
Isaiah's vision both frightened and humbled him. The prophet, having “seen the King, the Lord of Host” had also seen himself. Several times in the NT, God's word is referred to as a mirror.
This same mirror that shows us our iniquity can also lead us to salvation, “The Gospel by which you are saved.”
Isaiah mission would not be an easy one, preaching to a people who had becomed dull of hearing
Isaiah knew that his message would be a difficult one but yet it is a message of hope . No other book of the OT speaks as much of the coming Messiah and the joyful kingdom He would bring.
