This document summarizes global statistics on human trafficking between 2010-2014. It finds that the majority (53%) of detected victims are trafficked for sexual exploitation. Most detected trafficking victims cross borders within the same subregion (37%) rather than between distant regions. The number of detected child victims has increased between 2004-2011. Most countries have criminalized trafficking in persons but many countries report fewer than 10 convictions per year. Factors like age, gender, economic disparity and organized crime increase vulnerability. The post-2015 development agenda aims to eliminate violence against women and children through goals and indicators related to human trafficking.
