The Most Practical Applications Blogger http://amowat.blogspot.com/ Delicious Podcasts Wikispaces http://viajamos.wikispaces.com/
Blogger is practical for my students because... 1. It gives them the opportunity to share their thoughts with peers and others beyond the classroom through writing. 2. They are able to read more ideas in a shorter amount of time (compared to in-class presentations). 3. It helps them to stay organized and perhaps reevaluate previous thoughts about a specific topic.
Blogger is practical for me as a teacher because... I can communicate with students more frequently and in less time than handwriting comments on papers. I am able to model writing and share my opinions with my students. I can grow in my professional development with fellow educators.
Delicious is beneficial for me because... I can store all of my favorite websites on one website It allows for organization through the use of tags, which helps me locate websites faster I can log on to Delicious from any computer and still access my favorite sites https://secure.delicious.com/login?jump=ub
Podcasts are beneficial for my students and me because... It gives them the chance to publish their work to a wider audience. They are able to listen back to their writing and ideas, which they might want to edit more than just seeing them on paper. It helps me store previous projects in one place so when students are assigned the same project in the future, they can hear what others have done and get ideas.
Podcasts are beneficial part 2... Podcasts and vodcasts can bring other cultures and foreign voices into the classroom Certain Podcasts, such as Grammar Girl, can explain material in a different way Great for audio learners Most students can access Podcasts from home or school
Wikispaces is practical for me because... It gives me a free site to store important links for student use It allows me to add widgets, videos, audio, etc. which enhances the webpage and of which students might be interested I can share it with my colleagues and we could collaboratively work on pages that could benefit the department or the school
Wikispaces is beneficial for my students because... If they are doing research, they can start from my wikispaces page. They'll be linked to educational websites faster, and therefore their research will be more accurate. They can use links that will connect them with fun Spanish vocabulary or verb review Parents would like that there is a website their child can go to for further practice with a language
How to convince superintendent about using these technologies? Invite the superintendent in your classroom and show him/her podcasts that your students created Have the superintendent listen to a podcast that will interest your students. He/she will see the students' responses in class. Collect/gather university-based research on studies of teen education and use of technology Invite them to browse your wikispace and try it out
Concerned parents? Invite parents to a school improvement night and explain how students' identities can be protected Showcase student work to concerned parents so that they see the quality of work students are capable of when they are allowed to be creative with technology Invite parents to visit blog or wikispace to help them understand your purpose Explain how these technologies are being used at the university level
What I'd still like to learn about Web 2.0 Podcasts- I'd like to know where I could find podcasts created by Spanish-speaking students
