Success And Success Of Success
Imagine walking down the street and seeing a pure white 2017 Mercedes Benz E Class parked
in front in of a large house. One thing that may enter your mind is that whoever owns this must
have money. You begin to wonder what he or she does for a living. Looking at the house, then at
the car you conclude that this person must be famous; therefore, successful. As you stand there
gawking at the house and car someone exits the front door and you recognize it s your friend.
Both of you engage in conversation, and you re overly excited about this new car and home and
he just remains cool about it. To him the house is just a place to stay and the car is just a thing to
drive, but to you these things represent reaching a level of success. What is success? Success is a
term with many definitions. Webster s dictionary defines success in four different ways: (1) the
favorable or prosperous termination of attempts or endeavors; (2) the attainment of wealth,
position, honors or the like; (3) a successful performance or achievement; and (4) a person or thing
that is successful. Despite the seeming clear definitions of the word, it s different for each individual.
However, out of the four meanings, many only associated the word with definitionnumber two.
Society says success is determined by how much money one makes or the level of fame achieved.
Although society equates power, prestige, and wealth to success, there is a problem in society s
view of success and Webster s

Advantages Of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel
A familiar organization and the analysis of its competitive advantage
There are several organizations that have competitive advantages in the industry. However, one
familiar organization that has maintained its competitive advantage in its industry is the Ritz
Carlton hotel. Founded in 1983 and headquartered in Chevy Chase, Maryland, United States of
America, Ritz Carlton hotel is one of the best in the hotel industry and has received several
accolades for great customer services (Ritz Carlton Hotels Resorts, n.d.). Nevertheless, to fully
understand its competitive advantage in the industry, it is essential to analyze how the organization
operates. The Ritz Carlton hotel management understands the value of employees; therefore,
investing in their managerial training to enhance efficiency. The organization has a leadership
training center, where mentors train employees on the act of innovation in the hotel industry;
therefore, differentiating the organization from its rivals (The Ritz Carlton Leadership Center,
n.d.). The question, therefore, is, what kind of a competitive advantage does the Ritz Carlton hotel
has over its rivals? First and foremost, the organization s facilities are expensive so could not

Through a meticulous analysis, the organization has specific trademarks of empowering employees
to settle disputes with customers even to the extent of offering compensations and benefits
packages without consulting the management. Though competitors would have the intention to
erode the competitive advantage of the Ritz Carlton hotel; they, however, do not possess the
requisite resources and capabilities to make it a reality. As long as they cannot replicate and imitate
what the Ritz Carlton hotel is doing, it is fair to conclude that the trend of dominance will continue

American Cultural And Social Tensions Reflected In Film
This essay will show how in many cases the reflection of the current social and cultural events has
impacted the cinema. Over the history of the industry, many of the more impactful events have been
written into screenplays and then into the films of the day. Although creative license may have
been utilized in the presentations, there is an awfully large volume of events to filmproductions.
American Cultural and Social Tensions Reflected in Films

The Veldt Summary
In The Veldt by Ray Bradbury, the parents, George and Lydia are at fault for their own death
because they didn t decrease the screen time for their kids Wendy, and Peter earlier in their lives.
Which could have gotten them addicted over time. I also found this website named Limiting screen
time for kids. And that website tells me that as a childgrows a parent will need to decide how much
media to let your child use each day, also, what websites are appropriate for them. In the story it
states that the children were sobbing and screaming when their parents took away their technology,
this caused the kids to get mad. This other website Technology Addiction states that Technology
addiction, sometimes called internet addiction, or Internet Use Disorder is a fairly new
phenomenon in the world. Peter told his dad to call a psychologist to fix the nursery room when
they don t need it. Usually kids don t call a psychiatrist so this proves that the kids were addicted to
technology.
Then there s this source I found called The impact of technology. This website tells me that a mere
20 years ago, children used to play outside all day, riding bikes, playing sports and building forts. ...

Explain How Far Was Lord Dishili The Architect Of The 1867...
How far was Disraeli the Architect of the second reform act of 1867? It can be argued that
Disraeli was the architect of reform during the late 1860 s and through 1867 reform act, mainly
due to the fact that he realised that the conservative party might be seen as non reforming. To
counter this he would expand the franchise and gain potential new voters. However there is also
significant evidence that Lord Derby was the main architect of reform, mostly due to the fact that
he had been part of the 1832 reform bill and when he returned to power in 1866 he took the lead in
presenting the conservative reform bill. One reason, which shows that Disraeli was the Architect of
the Second Reform Bill 1867, is that Disraeli wanted to consolidate his... Show more content on

Source 7 is from a letter written by Lord Derby to Disraeli saying that the conservatives have to
deal with the question of reform . It also says that Derby is not in favour of resisting reform...
there is a genuine demand , this shows that Derby was supporting reform as he saw the national
push and demand for reform which he believed could strengthen the Tory party. The letter came
after pressure for reform increased after attempts by liberals to deal with the issue in 1866,
however Disraeli was reluctant to deal with it. Due to Disraeli being reluctant to deal with the
pressure for reform, it shows that he was not as supportive of reform as Derby, thus it could be
said that Derby was the main architect of reform. Source 8 also supports the idea that Derby was
the main architect of reform. It explains that when Derby and Disraeli returned to power in
1866, it was Derby who took the lead in proposing a conservative reform bill . Derby had
previously helped to draft the 1832 reform bill 34 years earlier and he steered the 1867 measure
through the Lords and held the conservative party in unity with his one aim to place the Tory party
permanently in power. He was to do this by expanding the franchise to gain new voters because
they would be seen as the reforming party whilst using the most conservative measure

The Death Of Their Cultures
Amelia D. Marquez Professor Silbernagel NASX 205 2 May 2017 The Death of their Cultures
Americans often picture their historic relationship with the Native Americans as one that involved
a feast on what is known as the first Thanksgiving. Most history books forget to mention the
moments where Native Americans had to fight for their land, rights, and lives. Throughout history,
many scenes are filled with European settlers and early Americans annihilating entire tribes of
Natives. Later, Americans filled their heads with greed and would shed blood from tribe to tribe
just to fill their pockets with gold. For the tribes that were left by the late 1800s, Americans felt the
need to force the Native Americans into boarding schools in order to... Show more content on

Everything they had come to know in the first five years of their lives were trampled on. To add
insult to injury, the first efforts of assimilation through boarding schools was headed by Captain
Richard Henry Pratt in 1879 (Marr, n.d.). Pratt is known for saying, kill the Indian and save the
man and believing that Native Americans were inferior to white people (Marr, n.d.). Pratt believed
that the only way to add Natives to the American melting pot was by transforming them through
education. The schedule set for the students was harsh and rough. At Cushman Indian School in
Tacoma, Washington, the students were expected to wake up at 5:45 A.M., perform industrial
work at 8:00 A.M., classes from 9 A.M. to 1 P.M., continue drills all afternoon, and end their day at
8:45 P.M. Another harsh reality of the schedule is that the school time hardly focused on subjects
like math or science. They were often filled with rigorous English courses where students were
punished for talking in their native language (Marr, n.d.). If the abuse and malnourishment did not
cause a child to run away or sometimes even commit suicide, then the disease would catch many
Native students. Tuberculosis, trachoma, measles, and small pox would often infect the students at
the boarding schools. In one scenario, it is documented that In December of 1899, measles broke
out at the Phoenix Indian School, reaching epidemic proportions by January. In its

Rolling A Cigarette Rolling
Rolling a cigarette is a skill needed by a big number of smokers around the world. Learning such
things as rolling can be quite easy but mastering them is the hard part. The art of rolling is more
ancient than tobacco itself. It is believed that prehistoric people, using dried leaves, had been
rolling many different types of smokeable plants. I have been rolling for almost 2 years and I still
don t consider myself as a professional roller but at least I am an efficient roller. The first cigaretteI
rolled was ugly and barely smokeable. It took me nearly a week to produce a slim, not wrinkled
cigarette. If rolling ever taught me a lession is that practice makes perfect. The most important

Influence of Trisha Brown and Steve Paxton on Modern Dance
The direct relationship in the artistic practices and methodologies of Trisha Brown and Steve
Paxton played a role in facilitating new ways of appreciating and developing movement.
Trisha Brown is considered to be one of the most pivotal choreographers of the 1960 s as her work
and practice shifted away from historically considered appropriate movement for choreography.
This ideology references the modern era of choreographers, moving away from the aesthetics of
Martha Graham and Merce Cunningham who worked with codified techniques, virtuosity and
expressionism, whereas Brown saw dance as being of greater importance to the physical and
mental process of the performer. Born in Aberdeen, Washington and studying dance at Mills
College in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While working with these companies in New York, Paxton discovered his interest in pushing and
playing with the body s physical potential. Paxton was inspired by the way Brown could manipulate
the physical form, observing the complexity in her form as she played with spills and falls. He
found this intriguing as it contrasted his background with Limon and Cunningham working with
codified vocabularies; something he considered to be a paralysis of the body via technique.
Working with Brown at Judson, Paxton was introduced to the methods of improvisation, using this
insight to create explorations playing with the dynamics and stability of gravity.
The Judson Dance Theatre had a significant influence not only on the direction of Trisha Brown and
Steve Paxton s artistic practice, but also the shift towards postmodernism. From the initial public
display by aspiring choreographers from Robert Dunn s composition class, Judson went on to
become the first avant garde movement in New York since modern dancein the 1940 s. There was
an interdisciplinary flavour produced via collaboration with dance, visual art and music, and
significant lack of grants and funding ensured that the Judson environment was that of willing
participation and exploration. Consequentially, this spurred ideas of innovation and new ways of
developing movement in terms of using inexpensive materials and space, allowing for exploration
of performance in non conventional

Examples Of Immigration Struggles In A New World

An Immigrants Struggle in a New World The United States of America is in its entirety a giant
melting pot of people, culture, and beliefs. It is an interesting place to live in and is very different
from most other countries. The United States is so vast and so diverse that people from the same
country cannot even relate to each other. It is divided into 50 states each having their own
borders, which makes the United States unique. No state is the same, each having their own
ideas and culture. You can see how coming to this country would change you but you would also
find similarities with your own home country since it is quite possible that your former
countryman have settled in the same state or region that you have also settled in. It is the
country of borders. This is increasingly evident in the in the stories of Lucy by Jamaica Kincaid
and Las Vegas Charley by Hisaye Yamamoto. Our protagonists in Lucy and Las Vegas Charley
ultimately change in their beliefs and their lifestyles through influences and actions of the
individuals around them. In the case of Charley and his son Noriyuki, Noriyuki actually grows
because of Charley as Charley dies. He realizes who his father truly is and that relieves any
animosity he had towards him. Noriyuki who, without one sour word, had lived though a
succession of conflicting emotions about his father hate for rejecting him as a child; disgust and

Judaism Compare And Contrast
The topic I choose to write about is Judaism. Like other religions, there are differences in the
religion. I decided to compare and contrast the different types of Judaism. Writers compare and
contract in order to understand their similarities and differences ( Vandermey 2012 pg. 182 ).
Judaism is a monotheistic religion. Judaismis 3,500 years old, is the oldest of the monotheistic
religions. The first attestation of the word Judaism occurs in 2 Maccabees, a Greek abridgment of
a history of the Maccabean revolt that was written ca. 124 BCE References Satlow, M. L. (2006).

If you really dissect each religion you will find that they have more in common than differences.
They all promote love for God and mankind. The Jewish tradition stems from Abraham s covenant
with God. Jews believe that God made a covenant with Abraham that he would be the father of a
great people if he followed God s instructions. The covenant was the promise God made with
Abraham that his people would be sacred and give them a holy land. Judaism is a tradition
grounded in the religious, ethical, and social laws as they are articulated in the Torah which is the
Jewish holy book. There are several different sects in the Jewish religion such as Reformed,
Conservative, and Orthodox Jews. The main difference between the belief systems is the approach
to Torah and the implications of that approach. It is how a Jewish community interact with Torah
that defines them as Conservative Jews ( Grossman 2005

What Is Freudian Slip Theory
Introduction
Freudian slip theory was originally created by Sigmund Freud. He was an Austrian neurologist and
was better known as the founder of psychoanalysis (1856 1939). Psychoanalysis can be defined as
a set of psychological theories which includes the Freudian slip theory. He believed that everyone
possess an unconscious mind, feelings, desires and memories in their lifetime. It is to be said that
peoples will bring their unconscious content on their mind to their conscious awareness and people
will be able to experience catharsis and gain insight into their current state of mind. (Cherry, What is
Psychoanalysis?, 2016)
Freud s theory of slips of the tongue and pen Sigmund Freud theory is formed based on peoples

mental processing that can help people think and talk rationally with peoples around them. The
unconscious mind is the area fills with feelings, thoughts and memories which others are unaware
of it. These feelings are mostly unacceptable or unpleasant such as feelings of pain, anxiety, anger
or conflict. Freud suggests that it is the conflicts between the conscious views on the reality and the
unconscious view on repressed materials that cause such negative mental disturbance such as
anxiety, depression and obsession. Researchers took 11 patients with anxiety disorder and measure
their brain activity while they were confronted with conscious versus unconscious stimuli. They
resulted in founding a new measurement of the brain s alpha wave frequency, linked to

Joan Of Arc Martyr
Joan of Arc, 1412 1432, was a martyr, saint and military leader who led the French against the
English in the Hundred Years War at a young age. She grew up in a small town in France. Her
father, Jacques, and her mother, Isabelle taught her lots of things, but the most important of all was
that she was very religious. When Joan has been around twelve years old, she started having
visions. Once she saw Michael the Archangel, who told her that she had to lead the French in a
battle against the English, and then take the king to be crowned at Rheims. She continued to have
visions and hear voices until she turned sixteen, then she decided that it was time to listen to her
visions and take action.
Joan has been just a peasant farm girl, however, that didn`t matter, she was going to ask King
Charles of France for an army. She passed through a lot of people that only laughed at her, but she

They said that it was enough to deserve death and announced her guilty. She was burned alive at

the event tells of how her heart survived the fire unaffected and how her ashes were gathered and
scattered in the Seine.
After Joan s death, the Hundred Years War continued for another 22 years. King Charles VII
ultimately retained his crown, and he ordered an investigation that in 1456 declared Joan of Arc to
be officially innocent of all charges and designated a martyr. She was canonized as a saint on May

The fire seemed to start in one of the containers. Several members of the crowd calls out guesses,
from some sort of accident to sabotage. Alec notices something, and pulls out part of my pack, now
nothing but a bit of burnt cloth. The Mech tried to blow up the ship, one of the men says. It was

AIDS In Billy Joel s Song We Didn T Start The Fire
As decades pass, it becomes evident that medical research plays a vital role in saving lives and
containing deadly epidemics. Without the advancement of modern medicine, these lethal diseases
could undeniably erase mankind in its entirety. AIDS, or acquired immune deficiency syndrome,
was the fire that medical researchers were trying to contain since the first reported case of AIDS
swept across American headlines on June 5, 1981 ( Timeline ). As mentioned in the Billy Joel s
song We Didn t Start The Fire, AIDS played an influential role in shaping modern medicine and
treatment. Acquired immune deficiency puzzled researchers from the start, however, physicians

Abstract
Now a days smart phones became an integral part of human life and so the mobile applications.
Mobile application development is the latest trend and easiest ways to reach out to more number
of people. Developing applications for mobiles is becoming challenging with various frameworks
and tools. In this paper, I am going to present a survey on different well known frameworks and
tools available for mobile application development.

Apart from this they are also provided with a variety of sensors such as multi touch screens, high
resolution cameras, gyroscope sensors, advanced sound systems etc. which are not available in
older generation phones.
Currently there are many platforms available for smart phones of which Android, Apple iOS,
Windows phone and Blackberry are well known platforms. Development of applications for each
platform requires in depth knowledge of the platforms and their SDKs. This takes a lot of money
and time for developers to develop applications for various platforms. This led to development of
various cross platform frameworks and tools such as Phone Gap, Titanium, JQuery mobile etc.

Article 86 and Article 92 Ucmj Essay
This is a 2000 word RBI on Article 92 (Failure to obey order or regulation) and Article 86

Given that he was late for work and failed to report to weapons draw/guard mount, he was
considered in violation of article 86. Given that he failed to obey a lawful general order to report
to weapons draw at 4:45am. Since article 86 clearly states that any and all armed forces
members who violate or fail to obey a general order are subject to punishment by the court
martial, the U.S Army private was indeed subject to such punishment. Though luckily, to his
benefit, he was only ordered to write a 2000 word RBI and report for duty 30 minutes early.
However had his wife not accidently knocked over his alarm clock, causing all of it s setting to
go astray, he would not have violated Article 86 and would not have been subject to punishment
by the court martial. But unfortunately his wife did knock over his alarm clock causing all of it
s settings to go astray and he did violate article 86. If you violate article 86(much like this U.S
Army Private) you too will be subject to the punishment of a court martial, and may also have to
write a 2000 RBI and have to report for duty 30 minutes early for 2 weeks. If anything let this show
you not to let your wives near your alarm clock, especially if they are gracefully challenged and
famous for tripping over their own feet. Ungracefully women have a bad habit of falling and
knocking over alarm clocks. If your wife happens to fall and knock over your alarm clock, be sure

U.s. Relations With The Cuban Government
CUBA: Libre
Is it a good idea to open relations with the Cuban Government? It has been more than eighty
years since a US President has visited Cuba. The two nations have had no diplomatic relations
since 1961. One may ask how beneficial for the US to conjoin forces with Cuba? Improving
relations with Cuba will benefit American Government because of what it can learn about health
care, disaster preparedness, tourism and Trade. On March 20, 2016 President Obama arrived in
Havana, Cuba with his family. It has been more than eighty years since a sitting U.S. president has
visited Cuba. President Calvin Coolidge was the last President to visit Cuba in 1928. When Fidel
Castro (former President of Cuba) came into power in 1959 relations between the two countries
devolved into arguments. Cuba is a communist country and the U.S. is a democracy. With these
differences it s hard for both the counties to see eye to eye. Up until now, both countries used
Switzerland as a mediator if they needed to talk. Currently, Cuba has one of the most advanced
medical biotechnology industries in the world. They have over 7,000 Scientist and Engineers. The
Government of Cuba invests a lot of money into new treatments and medications. According to the
World Health Organization, the Cuban biotech industry holds around 1,200 international patents
and markets pharmaceutical products and vaccines in more than 50 countries, but not in the United
States (Gustin 2015). Cuba has been a leader in the

There is no cure for HIV, but there are treatments to enable most people with the virus to live a long

If anyone think he has been exposed to the virus within the last 72 hours (three days), anti HIV
medication post exposure prophylaxis may stop him becoming infected.
The quicker PEP is started the better The longer the wait, the less chance of it being effective. But
the description is not accurate. PEP is a month long treatment, which has serious side effects and is
not guaranteed to work. The treatment involves taking the same drugs prescribed to people who
have tested positive for HIV.
If you are diagnosed with HIV, you will have regular blood tests to monitor the progress of the virus

As indicated by the map above, more than half of Austria is covered in mountains due to its location
around the Alps. The three longest rivers are the Danube, Rhine, and Drava. A relatively small
country, Austria is 83,858 square kilometers, which is about the size of South Carolina in the

Going on now in the early 1920s, white Americans enjoyed economic growth, while black
Americans saw little change in their social status. The combination of increasing long standing
racial hatred towards blacks might lead us to a tension filled decade. The Ku Klux Klan is a perfect
example of how this tension has continued, membership has increased dramatically during this year.
Membership was secretive, but historians estimate that there were between one and eight million

forcing members to recruit voters who promised to support racist politics, white supremacy, Anglo
Saxon Protestantism and segregation. The Klan also participated in violent

A character goes through specific circumstances which make him aware of his need to take

Hairtyle Definition
Proportion is the comparative relationship of one thing to another. A well chosen hairstyle can
create the illusion of better proportion. It is essential when designing a hairstyle to take into
account the client s body shape and size. Challenges in body proportion become more obvious if
the hair form is too small or too large. A general guide for classic proportion is that the hairshould
not be wider than the center of the shoulders, regardless of the body structure.
Proportion is also defined as any portion or part in relation to the whole. No one certain feature or
style produces beauty but rather the relationship or harmony created when all components come

Many have a side of the face that appears heavier. Many have one eye that is slightly smaller or
one flare of the nose that is slightly larger. And so, adaptability becomes the first design
consideration. During your client consultation, take the time to make notations of the
asymmetry to the face. If we design the hair towards the low side of the face, we will accentuate
it. If we duplicate the head form with either fullness or the lack thereof, we emphasize it. Feel
the bones of the head and take note of the growth patterns in the outer and inner perimeters.
Remember that the outer perimeter creates the strongest influence to the features. Be very careful
about the hair that touches the face. Will it point to an unflattering feature, such as a pointed
nose? If there is a protrusion of the frontal bone, the fringe area will lift and dry shorter than
anticipated. We have found that working with two mirrors is of tremendous benefit: one for the
frontal view and one for the profile. Watch that you do not accentuate a poor profile with an
extension in that area. The mirrors will tell you things that the eye cannot see directly. In addition,
using a haircutting chair gives the best view of the back and sides of the head because you are
looking directly into them. If you are looking down at the hairline, your vision is altered. (No, it is

Johnny Earle. One of Johnny s acquired nicknames was Johnny cupcakes. He thought it would be
funny to make a couple random shirts that said Johnny Cupcakes on them for the fun of it (Earle,

People not only crave exclusiveness, but will pay top dollar for it. Because they re collectibles
and not just apparel, customers are willing to pay $60 for a Johnny Cupcakes shirt and even stand in
line for a new release like kids waiting for concert tickets (Spaeder 2007). This exclusiveness
plays off of our cultures social classes. Most Americans want to be in a better social class.
Exclusiveness is a trait that is common in the highest of classes. The limited edition shirts not
only sets the standards for someone s social status, but also keeps inventory at a low, making
sure the products that are produced are sold. Having limited edition shirts erases much of the
risks and fears of the changing trends of JC s market. Since there are only a handful of the shirts
available, they are long gone before the design and style gets soggy. Also, this allows the company
to be very flexible with the changing market.
The two major internal factors that impact the organization are how they enhance the customer
experience and their product packaging. These are two very important factors that help create the
Johnny Cupcakes brand. They are part of the JC culture and without them, the brand wouldn t be
what it is today. Part of the customer experience lies in JC s three retail store locations. They re
set up just like bakeries, complete with glass display shelves, employees wearing aprons and the

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Susie Orbach s Losing Bodies

Rhetorical Analysis Essay

Rhetorical Analysis of Losing Bodies
Losing Bodies by Susie Orbach is an essay I found to be more effective in its ability to confuse its
readers with its argument, than it is to convince them. The negative attributes of this essay: its
disorderly placement of evidence for her argument, tendency to deviate significantly from its
proposed thesis, the author s decision to oversimplify the target of her argument and use of logical
fallacies, greatly overshadow the more positive attributes of the essay: its effective use of emotional
appeal and its method of getting the reader involved in the argument through the use of rhethorical
questions.
The logic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Losing Bodies, the primary rhetorical mode used is exemplification; this is evident because
Orbach s argument is structured by beginning with an introductory thesis: It could be said that the
media has a great deal to answer for when it comes to how we understand our bodies today
(Orbach 244). , which she attempts to support with body paragraphs containing evidence for her
claim. However, while I feel this rhetorical mode to be the most appropriate for her argument s
purpose, I believe that it was executed quite poorly because of the lack of organization of her ideas
and poor choice in sources. In regards to rhetorical strategy, the use of pathos in her argument is
expressed by appealing to the sentimental idea of motherhood throughout her essay. A particular
example of Orbach appealing to emotion using the concept of the connection between mother and
her child is in the passage where she suggests that the body shaming culture produced by the media
causes emotional distress in pregnant mothers, which transfers harmful anxiety into the womb,
where it is to be absorbed by her growing infant (Orbach, 249). Although she references no facts or
statistics to support this claim, thereby inhibiting the use of logos, this strategy is a very effective
in producing an emotional response. Through the mention of an implied harm to an innocent (the
infant), the audience is meant to feel compelled to protect the defenseless victim from the threat
(the toxic media that caused the mother s

Power of the Mind Revealed in Albert Camus The Guest
In The Guest , a short story written by Albert Camus, Camus uses his views on existentialism to
define the characters values. Camus effective use of descriptive words and individual thoughts and
actions allows the reader to understand and sympathize with the characters judgments of one
another, predominantly pertaining to the characters Daru and the Arab. Daru s responses to the
Arab and his decisions, Camus description of the Arab, and the Arab s respect for Daru, prove that
there is a basic goodness in humans, allowing them to accept responsibility and consequences for

Daru s further evaluation of the Arab was one of integrity and respect. Instead of developing a
judgment about the Arab based on what he was told, Daru examined and intended to understand
the Arab s character on his own. He made a decision that the Arab was worthy of his trust: He set
the bowl down, went into the classroom, and put the revolver in his desk drawer (322). Daru put the
gun away because he felt that the Arab posed no threat of danger. By doing this, Daru formed a
distinctive, honest connection between the two where they both respected each other and
concentrated on the positive qualities.
Daru also wanted to ensure the Arab s safety and health throughout his journey: There are dates,
bread, and sugar. You can hold out for two days. Here are a thousand francs too (326). Even
though Daru had known the Arab for less than a day, he had established a civil, affectionate bond
with Arab. To guarantee his wellbeing, Daru had prepared a care package. Again, though Daru
hardly knew the Arab, he used his blameless intuition to grant the Arab respect and behavior as a
friend.
Additionally, the Arab shows his immeasurable respect for Daru by choosing spiritual freedom
over physical freedom, a selfless gesture that would, in the Arab s mind, save them both. Daru lets
the prisoner choose his own fate of taking the path to the East and going on to the police
headquarters, or the path to the

When I initially found out that I was interviewing Josh for my one to one I wasn t too stoked on

that he would find it hard to open up because of our differences. I originally asked him to meet me

which is later disintegrated. No Gatsby turned out all right at the end;

What he wants is his dream, and that dream is embodied
in Daisy. Ironically, Daisy Buchanan, is a much more realistic, hard
headed character. She understands money and what it means in American
society, because it his her nature; she was born into it. Gatsby
intuitively recognizes this, although he cannot fully accept it, when he
remarks to Nick that Daisy s voice is full of money. Gatsby will not
admit this essential fact because it would destroy his understanding of
Daisy. In the end, this willful blindness helps lead to his ultimate
tragedy.
Gatsby is a romantic, a man who began with a high and exalted
vision of himself and his destiny. He aspires to greatness, which he
associates with Daisy. If he can win her, then he will have somehow
achieved his goal. Gatsby s wealth, his mansion, his parties, his
possessions, even his heroism in battle are but means to achieve his
ultimate goal. Gatsby is mistaken, however, in his belief that money can
buy happiness or that he can recapture his past if he only becomes rich.

The arrangements of the continents have a strong effect on the earth s climate. Where a continent is
on the earth can determine regional climates, such as if a location is arid, cold etc. When plates
move, they can also convert locations from one climate to another.
Movement of tectonic plates can generate many different climatic events, that can either increase or
decrease global temperatures. 1
One of the biggest tectonic events that has an effect on the earth climate is volcanic activity. As
Stoker (2007)1 states:
There is no doubt that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ocean currents are continuous movements of seawater that can transport cool or warm water, as
well as Carbon Dioxide. When tectonic plates move they can open and close oceanic gateways that
link to major ocean basins, controlling the global circulation of ocean currents, which can cause a
shift in the transportation of heat and salt from the equator to polar regions.
Transportation of warm water is balanced by cold water that sinks at high latitudes and moves the
currents back toward the equator. This process (Thermohaline Flow) helps to regulate global heat.
Any change in the Thermohaline Flow due to tectonic activity of any sort can affect the distribution
of precipitation, ice, temperature and vegetation on earth. 3
The ocean is crucial to heating the planet, as the majority of the sun s radiation is absorbed by the
ocean. The oceans currents help distribute that heat.

he US FDA, on 18th August, 2015 approved the drug Flibanserin (brand name Addyi) for the
treatment of acquired, generalised Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD) in
premenopausal women. Addyi is being dubbed as the Female viagra and the little pink pill .
What is Addyi? Addyi is the brand name of the generic drug Flibanserin, developed by Sprout
pharmaceuticals, Inc. It is a multifunctional serotonin agonist antagonist (MSAA), approved for
the treatment of HSDD in premenopausal women. HSDD is characterised by low sexual desire in
previously normal females (acquired). It is not related to any psychiatric or medical condition.
HSDD is generalised when it occurs all the time, irrespective of the type of sexual act, partner or
environment. How does Addyi work?... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Flibanserin (Addyi) has no effect on the genital blood flow. It is a post synaptic 5HT1A receptor
agonist and 5HT2A receptor antagonist and acts on the brain. It is claimed to correct an imbalance
of dopamine and norepinephrine (responsible for sexual desire) while decreasing the levels of
serotonin( responsible for sexual satiety/inhibition). In three randomised trials, Addyi was found to
improve sexual desire and satisfying sexual events among HSDD patients. Addyi has not been show

John Milton Satan Quotes
Paradise Lost is a re telling of the well known story of Adam and Eve. John Milton begins
Paradise Lost by formally stating his poem s subject: humankind s first act of disobedience
toward God and the fall of humanity which followed after. The act is Adam and Eve s
consumption of the forbidden fruit from the Tree of Knowledge, which is told in Genesis, the first
book of the Bible. However, their actions were in response to a serpents trickery. According to
many Christian traditions, this serpent is Satan, the angel who rebelled against God and fell from
heaven to hell where he became pitted against God and all humanity. However, in Paradise Lost,
Milton complicates this set role of Satan. Milton s Satan is an extraordinary and majestic figure
that we find difficult to avoid feeling sympathy towards, and impressed by his pride and
leadership skills. (unafraid of being damned eternally, prideful, a strong leader, comparable to the
size of a Titan, and ingeniously develops his own heaven out of hell.) We can argue that... Show

However, he is also the most likeable character in Paradise Lost. OK, maybe likeable is going a
bit too far, but many readers of the poem have found it difficult to not identify with him and to
avoid sympathizing with him. When he wakes up in Hell, chained to a burning lake, how can
we not feel a bit sorry for him (put sad quote of him chained to the lake). All Satan wanted to
achieve was to overthrow God, which is impossible anyways because God has universal power.
But he doesn t give up when he fails/falls. (find quote about Satan destroying humanity) this is a
another admirable trait that Satan has because he wont give up once he starts something, he goes
and finishes it. A lot of readers can identify with him because it is a characteristic we see in

Essay on The Scientific Revolution
The Scientific Revolution
A paradigm is one s world view in which one understands his place in it. Copernicus, Galileo,
Vesalius, Linnaeus, Leuwenhoek, and Newton were all medieval scientists, whose work changed
people s lives and the world. The way man viewed the universe in which he lived, the world of
nature that surrounded him and even his own physical anatomy changed right before him.
Scientists, like Galileo, disproved the heliocentric model as new instruments like the telescope were
invented. The way in which man saw his own physical anatomy changed when Andreas Vesalius
completed detailed studies of the human body. Due to these new, groundbreaking studies man
began to view himself as insignificant and as a machine. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Catholic Church believed that Galileo was mocking the Church approved ideas of Ptolemy
and their geocentric model. The Catholic Church sentenced Galileo to house arrest for the
remainder of his life, but his ideas of a heliocentric universe remained strong. This idea changed
man s whole view of his significance and place in the universe. Now, man was no longer the center
of everything. Man was not as important as he originally thought. This also meant that the Church
was not preaching the truth, and that the Bible and Aristotle were wrong. This raised questions
about the validity of the rest of the Bible and Aristotle s teachings.
During the Scientific Revolution, scientists developed ways to make more precise and more
reliable observations. The new scientists challenged the assumptions of past scientists. Zacharias
Janssen invented the first microscope. Anton van Leuwenhoek used a microscope to observe
bacterium and red blood cells. Galileo made the first thermometer using alcohol for measuring
temperatures. Later, a German physicist named Gabriel Fahrenheit developed the first thermometer
using mercury. In 1655, Evangelista Torricelli developed the barometer. The barometer measured
atmospheric pressure. The barometer proved that the weather could be predicted, and therefore God
did not control the weather. This new information disturbed the Catholic Church. Again, they were
caught preaching the wrong information(TWW ).Galileo proved Aristotle

immigrants have. Stanford University s website says Filipino immigrants are considered at risk of
hypertension, coronary heart disease, diabetes at midlife and old age, and other metabolic

three times higher than among whites. Geographic separation or alienation from family and
financial difficulties are found to be common stressors among clinically depressed Filipinos. Older
Filipino men committed suicide more than women, mimicking the trend for the general population

Sunspot Lab Report
Introduction
The sun is an enormous bright yellow circle object visible in the sky daytime. Astronomers believe
that it is one of the many stars which the earth orbits in our galaxy. The sun is thought to be the
midpoint of the solar system based on the assertion that it is the only star in the solar system that is
the source of energy for all the other planets. According to geometry facts, the sunacts as the hub of
the solar system since all the other components of the solar system go around it on all sides
(Haugen, 2002). The sun is vital to the solar system since it used as the center of research, study,
and forecasting not only in space travel but also on earth.
The sun is usually a hot ball, a yellow dwarf star that glows gasses at the central part of the solar
system. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, around the 17th century, the cycle of the solar for several decades appeared appears
to have halted, and few spots were noted, a period referred to as Maunder minimum (Vogt, 2012).
This period coincided with the period of cooling in Europe characterized by abnormally cold
temperatures. Through the analysis of tree rings, the extended minima became a discovery and
seemed to correspond with the global temperatures that usually became lower that the average ones

Today, the sun illuminates the most life supporting part of the earth. Over the past four billion
years, this hasn t dramatically changed and is predicted not to change soon over the past five billion
years ( NASA Solar System Exploration, 2017). But after the cessation of hydrogen fusion, the sun
may undergo some changes. The Sun plays the role of providing living things with light, energy,

Big Impacts On My Childhood
When I think of big impacts on my childhood, heroes are definitely near the top. Whether it was
Legolas from Lord of the Rings or Lara Croft in Tomb Raider, I wanted to save the world. Maybe
that s why I fell in love with comics early on. I wanted the admiration from my peers that these
heroes got from me, and yet, the world doesn t work that way. I realized pretty quickly that it
wasn t like in the movies and comics. The world didn t exist to give you a pat on the back
whenever you did a good deed. Maybe that s why from the moment I picked up my first XMEN
comic, I fell in love. FINALLY there were heroes who lived in a more realistic society. The
world they protected, shunned them. They were spat on by those they saved. Here I was, a
geeky, straight A, small, spindly little fourth grader with glasses and flood pants who had always
tried to be the hero. Finally I had found a group of people who were as unappreciated as I felt. It
seems as though many others felt that way too, and quickly Xmen became Marvels crowning glory,
yet as the newest generation rolls in, Marvel has had a stroke of luck with a film deal of the
Avengers series, and of course the population eats it up. It seems as though Marvel has been putting
a lot of effort into anything Avengers since Fox owns the rights to Xmen. This unfortunate fact
makes me bitter because Xmen contains much more positive messaging for audiences than the
currently more successful Avengers. Xmen hasn t been getting much love

Why Is Jay Important In The Great Gatsby
In this novel, The Great Gatsby wrote by F. Scott Fitzgerald, he wants you to understand many
things. Fitzgerald mainly wants you to grasp that not everyone or everything in this world can
make you happy. Money makes the world go around, or at least makes things seem better. With the
risk of consequences of being wealthy and having a bunch of money, Jay Gatsbywould rather take
that risk and be happy than to be sad. Gatsby was startled and in all contempt for the babbled
slander of his garden as if he had killed a man. (Fitzgerald pg. 119). Nick sits on the shoreline,
reflecting on Gatsby s life, He had come a long way to this blue lawn and his dream must have
seemed so close that he could hardly fail to grasp it, he speaks admiringly

Korea Poverty
roduction
Our modern world of business is one that is wealthier than its ever been before, and countries
seem to be experiencing ground breaking economic growth, however this was not always the
case and many countries have fought very hard to reach the economic success they have today.
With billions of people on earth, there are billions of wealthy, and billions of people living in
horrible poverty. For a long time, Korea was considered a country full of extreme poverty,
suffering the effects of war, with very limited resources to survive. Many wondered if Korea
would ever be able to blossom with its struggles in the early 1950s. More than 60 years later, South
Korea s economy has grown immensely and become a prominent figure in the international
market, with one of the world s best economies. The biggest question with South Korea is: how
did one of the poorest countries in the world manage to escape the desperate grips of poverty? And
achieve such incredible success, what efforts and strategy were made to bring Korea out of poverty?
Background
In 1945 Korea gained independence from of Japan, however, the country was now split between
North and South Korea and it was not long before the Korean war soon broke out leaving South
Korea without a chance at rebuilding their economy. While the country experienced millions of
casualties, the Korean War left the newly formed Korean republic in a state of peril. During South
Korea s efforts in restoring their country, they

The simultaneous co product of this investigation is the potential to help at risk K 5 students
develop their mathematical communication skills and math efficacy (Nicholls, Cobb, Wood, amp;
Yackel, 1990) through activity based experiences. Project Plan This research study will be
completed with two parallel studies. The first study will focus on the preservice teachers enrolled in
a K 8 math methods course at Elmhurst College, EDU330 Math for Elementary and Middle School
Students. The second study will focus on the K 5 elementary students at Jackson Elementary
School participating in the math lab sessions. Jackson Elementary School is partnering with the
Education Department at Elmhurst College to form a Professional Development School (PDS) and
thus a collaborative relationship as well as vacant instructional space that provides a unique
opportunity for this project. In sum, the research project has two guiding goals mathematical
efficacy and communication. The first goal is to discern the changes in math self efficacy in both
the K 5 students and preservice teachers. The second goal is to examine if the K 5 students and
preservice teachers participating in a math lab, which is centered on reflective activities and
mathematics communication skills, improve as math communicators. Preservice teacher growth

Pulitzer Prize-Winning Picture Of A Vulture By Kevin Carter
When looking at some images, humans have a strong emotional response. This response is most
evident when looking at Kevin Carter s Pulitzer Prize winning photograph of a starving Sudanese
child and a vulture is a drought ridden field. The picture was even a factor in Carter s suicide. The
picture has many different features like the vulture and the child that make it particularly
melancholy and hard to bear. The vulture is sitting behind the child looking and waiting to attack
when the child dies. The sight of the vulture ready to pounce on an innocent child is unnerving. The
sight is what strikes the heart of the audience who want to know if the girl survived. The ground is
uniformly brown and tan with a rough, dry texture. The fact that

Academic Writing Styles
Academic writing
Proper academic writing should demonstrate the students understanding of the subject at hand.
(Elton, 2010) adds that because academic writing may defer from discipline to discipline,
instructors in schools have a duty to express their expectations of students writing while students on
the other hand should act on it.
Academic writing is logical
The student s work needs to have a introduction, the body and the conclusion. The introduction
gives a background to the topic and one could include interesting facts and quotations. It is
important to outline the main ideas that are in the body. The student then discusses the main points
in the body. This is done in paragraphs which should be well structured to give a coherent
argument. The conclusion is the final paragraph and must briefly summarise every idea discussed
in the body.
Other s works
Academic writing builds on what others have done on the same subject. A student therefore needs
to base his work on his own ideas as well as what others have done and thought about, however,
students should take care not to get lost in another scholar s voice but should instead incorporate
the information so as to maintain the novelty of his argument. (Hampton, 2014) states that another
scholar s work should be fully acknowledged by accurate citation.
Academic writing is objective
Academic writing is objective (A. De Montfort University Website, 2014) states that one needs to
write in the third person and avoid

People of different cultures worked, traded and traveled throughout the Empire, contributing to its
power and dynamics. Some Europeans who began to criss cross the roads with Mughals recorded
themselves in forms of diaries or letters about the people and the lands they encountered on their
journey, which are well preserved today. Europeans such as Sebastien Manrique, Antonio
Monserrate, Jean Baptiste Tavernier, and William Hawkins recorded their experiences and
observations from fascinating and informative visions travel and life in india during this period and
provide invaluable contribution to our understanding of life at the time.
Sebastien Manrique, a priest who went on a journey to India for missionary work, writes his
experiences to educate his audience as well as entertain the audience. While writing this well
constructed article, Manrique keeps his audience in mind by providing exceptionally detailed
experiences that he had on his journey. He is able to portray his journey as if the reader were
truly there alongside him. The reader is able to imagine the drastic situations he went through on
his journey due to the monsoon floods, voracious mosquitos, appetizing peacocks, violent fever
and affronted villagers as well as threatening Mughal officials. He is also well aware of what he
must do in order to continue his narrative without boring his audience, give a detailed description of

Examples Of Judgement In Othello
Poor judgement can often be forgiven, but in Shakespeare s Othello, it proves to be fatal. Othello
is the main character, he is noble and gentle, but also gullible and insecure. He marries a white
woman named Desdemona, and is looked down on by Venetian society, to which he is their
general. Iago is Othellos standard bearer and he is the most disloyal and selfish character in
Othello, who plots to destroy Othello. Othello can t see past Iagos feigned loyalty, thus he puts all of
his trust in him. He doesn t suspect anything when Iago makes lies about Desdemonas faithfulness.
His trust makes him vulnerable and results in his distrust towards his most loyal friends,
Desdemona and Cassio. This eventually causes in his own catastrophe, fulfilling... Show more

Some would say jealousy is his tragic flaw, but that comes as a result of Iago much later in the
play. Despite being a well spoken military leader, he pays very little attention to what Iago is
actually doing. Upon plotting on how to go about stealing Cassio s position as well destroying
Othello at the same time, Iago quotes The Moor is of a free and open nature that thinks men
honest that but seem to be so; and will as tenderly be led by th nose as asses are (Act 1:3, 390
393) summarizing Othello s poor sense of judgement. Othello is a person who will put his trust
in someone who appears honest, thus Iago uses this to his advantage. This is much like how he
put his trust into Cassio, for he is one of the few who are truly loyal to the moor. He refers to
Iago as honest Iago numerous times, and When used by Othello it signifies his own simplicity
and capacity for being fooled (Abernethy, 337). When Iago feigns uneasiness about Desdemona
and Cassio, Othello is convinced there s something he s hiding and quotes Such things in a false
disloyal knave are tricks of custom, but in a man that s just they are close delations, working
from the heart, that passion cannot rule (Act 3:3, 124 127). Completely fooled by Iago, he
considers him his closest and more loyal friend, when really he is the disloyal knave he didn t see
him to be. Nearing the end of the play, Iago is asked by Emilia whether he told Othello

A Critical Discourse Analysis Of A Few Of The Speeches By...
The term terrorism is notoriously hard to explain as there is no international consensus on the
definition legally or academically thus is often used to mean many different things by pundits,
politicians and the media. A highly complex phenomenon, terrorism stands at the forefront of
international agendas, and the term is associated with a wide variety of groups all over the world.
So the question is what constitutes terrorism? The dictionary definition is violence or threat of
violence against non combatants or civilians, usually motivated by religious or political
ideologies. This paper aims to do a critical discourse analysis of a few of the speeches by US
Leaders George Bush and Barrack Obama in the aftermath of the attacks on the world trade
centre in 2001. It draws on Schiffrin et al (2003), Foucault s and Van Dijk s concepts of critical
discourse analysis and aims to reveal how Bush and Obama carefully selected emotionally charged
language, expressions and gestures to create fear and panic in the world and how they projected
terrorism negatively all the while advocating and justifying similar strategies and calling it anti
terrorism.
Terrorism is a highly complex phenomenon with over one hundred definitions all over the world, it
stands at the forefront of many international agendas. The complexity of this term means it can be
used to describe many different things, depending on the pundits, politicians or media outlet s
views and ideologies. In simple terms, A

  • 2. Success And Success Of Success Imagine walking down the street and seeing a pure white 2017 Mercedes Benz E Class parked in front in of a large house. One thing that may enter your mind is that whoever owns this must have money. You begin to wonder what he or she does for a living. Looking at the house, then at the car you conclude that this person must be famous; therefore, successful. As you stand there gawking at the house and car someone exits the front door and you recognize it s your friend. Both of you engage in conversation, and you re overly excited about this new car and home and he just remains cool about it. To him the house is just a place to stay and the car is just a thing to drive, but to you these things represent reaching a level of success. What is success? Success is a term with many definitions. Webster s dictionary defines success in four different ways: (1) the favorable or prosperous termination of attempts or endeavors; (2) the attainment of wealth, position, honors or the like; (3) a successful performance or achievement; and (4) a person or thing that is successful. Despite the seeming clear definitions of the word, it s different for each individual. However, out of the four meanings, many only associated the word with definitionnumber two. Society says success is determined by how much money one makes or the level of fame achieved. I remain lying on the sofa with my knees curled close to my chest, my arms wrapped around my knees, cradling myself. A game show occupies the television, but I m clueless to what s happening. The presenter raises the guests enthusiasm as he shouts out in joyful banter. The audience claps and cheers when someone wins, I assume. Nevertheless, I can t concentrate on it, I can t concentrate on anything as my thoughts play on a continuous loop. Does he care enough about me? When will he phone? What will I say if he does? In fascination, I watch it snake its way along the sofa as it vibrates. It could be Alice. However, I m not interested in speaking with her. After a while, the phone silences. Voicemail must have picked up the call. I slide off the stool and amble across the room to retrieve my phone. One missed call, no voicemail. The phone vibrates and sings in my hand, startling me. Angelo s name flashes on the screen. The hummingbird, who took up residence in my chest since meeting Angelo, beats her wings. My body quivers in anticipation to answer the call, to hear his voice. Eva? Eva, are you there? He sounds concerned. That s new, refreshing even. Yes, I m here, I say, keeping my voice calm and uncaring. You didn t show up today. I bite on my lip. I figured it was about the poker game brawl. There s no need to be scared, they wouldn t hurt you. How would he know? Can he read minds? • 6. The Veldt Summary In The Veldt by Ray Bradbury, the parents, George and Lydia are at fault for their own death because they didn t decrease the screen time for their kids Wendy, and Peter earlier in their lives. Which could have gotten them addicted over time. I also found this website named Limiting screen time for kids. And that website tells me that as a childgrows a parent will need to decide how much media to let your child use each day, also, what websites are appropriate for them. In the story it states that the children were sobbing and screaming when their parents took away their technology, this caused the kids to get mad. This other website Technology Addiction states that Technology addiction, sometimes called internet addiction, or Internet Use Disorder is a fairly new phenomenon in the world. Peter told his dad to call a psychologist to fix the nursery room when they don t need it. Usually kids don t call a psychiatrist so this proves that the kids were addicted to technology. Then there s this source I found called The impact of technology. This website tells me that a mere 20 years ago, children used to play outside all day, riding bikes, playing sports and building forts. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 7. Explain How Far Was Lord Dishili The Architect Of The 1867... How far was Disraeli the Architect of the second reform act of 1867? It can be argued that Disraeli was the architect of reform during the late 1860 s and through 1867 reform act, mainly due to the fact that he realised that the conservative party might be seen as non reforming. To counter this he would expand the franchise and gain potential new voters. However there is also significant evidence that Lord Derby was the main architect of reform, mostly due to the fact that he had been part of the 1832 reform bill and when he returned to power in 1866 he took the lead in presenting the conservative reform bill. One reason, which shows that Disraeli was the Architect of the Second Reform Bill 1867, is that Disraeli wanted to consolidate his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Source 7 is from a letter written by Lord Derby to Disraeli saying that the conservatives have to deal with the question of reform . It also says that Derby is not in favour of resisting reform... there is a genuine demand , this shows that Derby was supporting reform as he saw the national push and demand for reform which he believed could strengthen the Tory party. The letter came after pressure for reform increased after attempts by liberals to deal with the issue in 1866, however Disraeli was reluctant to deal with it. Due to Disraeli being reluctant to deal with the pressure for reform, it shows that he was not as supportive of reform as Derby, thus it could be said that Derby was the main architect of reform. Source 8 also supports the idea that Derby was the main architect of reform. It explains that when Derby and Disraeli returned to power in 1866, it was Derby who took the lead in proposing a conservative reform bill . Derby had previously helped to draft the 1832 reform bill 34 years earlier and he steered the 1867 measure through the Lords and held the conservative party in unity with his one aim to place the Tory party permanently in power. He was to do this by expanding the franchise to gain new voters because they would be seen as the reforming party whilst using the most conservative measure ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Death Of Their Cultures Amelia D. Marquez Professor Silbernagel NASX 205 2 May 2017 The Death of their Cultures Americans often picture their historic relationship with the Native Americans as one that involved a feast on what is known as the first Thanksgiving. Most history books forget to mention the moments where Native Americans had to fight for their land, rights, and lives. Throughout history, many scenes are filled with European settlers and early Americans annihilating entire tribes of Natives. Later, Americans filled their heads with greed and would shed blood from tribe to tribe just to fill their pockets with gold. For the tribes that were left by the late 1800s, Americans felt the need to force the Native Americans into boarding schools in order to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Everything they had come to know in the first five years of their lives were trampled on. To add insult to injury, the first efforts of assimilation through boarding schools was headed by Captain Richard Henry Pratt in 1879 (Marr, n.d.). Pratt is known for saying, kill the Indian and save the man and believing that Native Americans were inferior to white people (Marr, n.d.). Pratt believed that the only way to add Natives to the American melting pot was by transforming them through education. The schedule set for the students was harsh and rough. At Cushman Indian School in Tacoma, Washington, the students were expected to wake up at 5:45 A.M., perform industrial work at 8:00 A.M., classes from 9 A.M. to 1 P.M., continue drills all afternoon, and end their day at 8:45 P.M. Another harsh reality of the schedule is that the school time hardly focused on subjects like math or science. They were often filled with rigorous English courses where students were punished for talking in their native language (Marr, n.d.). If the abuse and malnourishment did not cause a child to run away or sometimes even commit suicide, then the disease would catch many Native students. Tuberculosis, trachoma, measles, and small pox would often infect the students at the boarding schools. In one scenario, it is documented that In December of 1899, measles broke out at the Phoenix Indian School, reaching epidemic proportions by January. In its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Learning such things as rolling can be quite easy but mastering them is the hard part. The art of rolling is more ancient than tobacco itself. It is believed that prehistoric people, using dried leaves, had been rolling many different types of smokeable plants. I have been rolling for almost 2 years and I still don t consider myself as a professional roller but at least I am an efficient roller. The first cigaretteI rolled was ugly and barely smokeable. • 11. Influence of Trisha Brown and Steve Paxton on Modern Dance The direct relationship in the artistic practices and methodologies of Trisha Brown and Steve Paxton played a role in facilitating new ways of appreciating and developing movement. Trisha Brown is considered to be one of the most pivotal choreographers of the 1960 s as her work and practice shifted away from historically considered appropriate movement for choreography. This ideology references the modern era of choreographers, moving away from the aesthetics of Martha Graham and Merce Cunningham who worked with codified techniques, virtuosity and expressionism, whereas Brown saw dance as being of greater importance to the physical and mental process of the performer. Born in Aberdeen, Washington and studying dance at Mills College in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While working with these companies in New York, Paxton discovered his interest in pushing and playing with the body s physical potential. Paxton was inspired by the way Brown could manipulate the physical form, observing the complexity in her form as she played with spills and falls. He found this intriguing as it contrasted his background with Limon and Cunningham working with codified vocabularies; something he considered to be a paralysis of the body via technique. Working with Brown at Judson, Paxton was introduced to the methods of improvisation, using this insight to create explorations playing with the dynamics and stability of gravity. The Judson Dance Theatre had a significant influence not only on the direction of Trisha Brown and Steve Paxton s artistic practice, but also the shift towards postmodernism. From the initial public display by aspiring choreographers from Robert Dunn s composition class, Judson went on to become the first avant garde movement in New York since modern dancein the 1940 s. There was an interdisciplinary flavour produced via collaboration with dance, visual art and music, and significant lack of grants and funding ensured that the Judson environment was that of willing participation and exploration. Consequentially, this spurred ideas of innovation and new ways of developing movement in terms of using inexpensive materials and space, allowing for exploration of performance in non conventional ... Examples Of Immigration Struggles In A New World Luke Zrostlik English 2326.01 Dr. Neely October 27 2015 An Immigrants Struggle in a New World The United States of America is in its entirety a giant melting pot of people, culture, and beliefs. It is an interesting place to live in and is very different from most other countries. The United States is so vast and so diverse that people from the same country cannot even relate to each other. It is divided into 50 states each having their own borders, which makes the United States unique. No state is the same, each having their own ideas and culture. You can see how coming to this country would change you but you would also find similarities with your own home country since it is quite possible that your former countryman have settled in the same state or region that you have also settled in. It is the country of borders. This is increasingly evident in the in the stories of Lucy by Jamaica Kincaid and Las Vegas Charley by Hisaye Yamamoto. Our protagonists in Lucy and Las Vegas Charley ultimately change in their beliefs and their lifestyles through influences and actions of the individuals around them. In the case of Charley and his son Noriyuki, Noriyuki actually grows because of Charley as Charley dies. He realizes who his father truly is and that relieves any animosity he had towards him. It is essential when designing a hairstyle to take into account the client s body shape and size. Challenges in body proportion become more obvious if the hair form is too small or too large. A general guide for classic proportion is that the hairshould not be wider than the center of the shoulders, regardless of the body structure. Proportion is also defined as any portion or part in relation to the whole. No one certain feature or style produces beauty but rather the relationship or harmony created when all components come together into a total image. Many have one eye that is slightly smaller or one flare of the nose that is slightly larger. And so, adaptability becomes the first design consideration. During your client consultation, take the time to make notations of the asymmetry to the face. If we design the hair towards the low side of the face, we will accentuate it. If we duplicate the head form with either fullness or the lack thereof, we emphasize it. Feel the bones of the head and take note of the growth patterns in the outer and inner perimeters. Remember that the outer perimeter creates the strongest influence to the features. Be very careful about the hair that touches the face. Will it point to an unflattering feature, such as a pointed nose? If there is a protrusion of the frontal bone, the fringe area will lift and dry shorter than anticipated. We have found that working with two mirrors is of tremendous benefit: one for the frontal view and one for the profile. Watch that you do not accentuate a poor profile with an extension in that area. The mirrors will tell you things that the eye cannot see directly. In addition, using a haircutting chair gives the best view of the back and sides of the head because you are looking directly into them. The negative attributes of this essay: its disorderly placement of evidence for her argument, tendency to deviate significantly from its proposed thesis, the author s decision to oversimplify the target of her argument and use of logical fallacies, greatly overshadow the more positive attributes of the essay: its effective use of emotional appeal and its method of getting the reader involved in the argument through the use of rhethorical questions. In Losing Bodies, the primary rhetorical mode used is exemplification; this is evident because Orbach s argument is structured by beginning with an introductory thesis: It could be said that the media has a great deal to answer for when it comes to how we understand our bodies today (Orbach 244). , which she attempts to support with body paragraphs containing evidence for her claim. However, while I feel this rhetorical mode to be the most appropriate for her argument s purpose, I believe that it was executed quite poorly because of the lack of organization of her ideas and poor choice in sources. In regards to rhetorical strategy, the use of pathos in her argument is expressed by appealing to the sentimental idea of motherhood throughout her essay. A particular example of Orbach appealing to emotion using the concept of the connection between mother and her child is in the passage where she suggests that the body shaming culture produced by the media causes emotional distress in pregnant mothers, which transfers harmful anxiety into the womb, where it is to be absorbed by her growing infant (Orbach, 249). Although she references no facts or statistics to support this claim, thereby inhibiting the use of logos, this strategy is a very effective in producing an emotional response. Through the mention of an implied harm to an innocent (the infant), the audience is meant to feel compelled to protect the defenseless victim from the threat (the toxic media that caused the mother s ... Two of the earth s biggest structures are our oceans and continents, which sit on tectonic plates. The interactions between tectonic plates and oceans are one big influence that can determine the earth s climate and as a result of that can contribute to climate change. The arrangements of the continents have a strong effect on the earth s climate. Where a continent is on the earth can determine regional climates, such as if a location is arid, cold etc. When plates move, they can also convert locations from one climate to another. Movement of tectonic plates can generate many different climatic events, that can either increase or decrease global temperatures. 1 One of the biggest tectonic events that has an effect on the earth climate is volcanic activity. Ocean currents are continuous movements of seawater that can transport cool or warm water, as well as Carbon Dioxide. When tectonic plates move they can open and close oceanic gateways that link to major ocean basins, controlling the global circulation of ocean currents, which can cause a shift in the transportation of heat and salt from the equator to polar regions. Transportation of warm water is balanced by cold water that sinks at high latitudes and moves the currents back toward the equator. This process (Thermohaline Flow) helps to regulate global heat. Any change in the Thermohaline Flow due to tectonic activity of any sort can affect the distribution of precipitation, ice, temperature and vegetation on earth. 3 The ocean is crucial to heating the planet, as the majority of the sun s radiation is absorbed by the ocean. John Milton begins Paradise Lost by formally stating his poem s subject: humankind s first act of disobedience toward God and the fall of humanity which followed after. The act is Adam and Eve s consumption of the forbidden fruit from the Tree of Knowledge, which is told in Genesis, the first book of the Bible. However, their actions were in response to a serpents trickery. Milton s Satan is an extraordinary and majestic figure that we find difficult to avoid feeling sympathy towards, and impressed by his pride and leadership skills. • 53. Pulitzer Prize-Winning Picture Of A Vulture By Kevin Carter When looking at some images, humans have a strong emotional response. This response is most evident when looking at Kevin Carter s Pulitzer Prize winning photograph of a starving Sudanese child and a vulture is a drought ridden field. The picture was even a factor in Carter s suicide. The picture has many different features like the vulture and the child that make it particularly melancholy and hard to bear. The vulture is sitting behind the child looking and waiting to attack when the child dies. The sight of the vulture ready to pounce on an innocent child is unnerving. The sight is what strikes the heart of the audience who want to know if the girl survived. The ground is uniformly brown and tan with a rough, dry texture. The fact that ... • 54. Academic Writing Styles Academic writing Proper academic writing should demonstrate the students understanding of the subject at hand. (Elton, 2010) adds that because academic writing may defer from discipline to discipline, instructors in schools have a duty to express their expectations of students writing while students on the other hand should act on it. Academic writing is logical The student s work needs to have a introduction, the body and the conclusion. The introduction gives a background to the topic and one could include interesting facts and quotations. It is important to outline the main ideas that are in the body. The student then discusses the main points in the body. This is done in paragraphs which should be well structured to give a coherent argument. The conclusion is the final paragraph and must briefly summarise every idea discussed in the body. Other s works Academic writing builds on what others have done on the same subject. A student therefore needs to base his work on his own ideas as well as what others have done and thought about, however, students should take care not to get lost in another scholar s voice but should instead incorporate the information so as to maintain the novelty of his argument. (Hampton, 2014) states that another scholar s work should be fully acknowledged by accurate citation. Academic writing is objective Academic writing is objective (A. De Montfort University Website, 2014) states that one needs to write in the third person and avoid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 56. Examples Of Judgement In Othello Poor judgement can often be forgiven, but in Shakespeare s Othello, it proves to be fatal. Othello is the main character, he is noble and gentle, but also gullible and insecure. He marries a white woman named Desdemona, and is looked down on by Venetian society, to which he is their general. Iago is Othellos standard bearer and he is the most disloyal and selfish character in Othello, who plots to destroy Othello. Othello can t see past Iagos feigned loyalty, thus he puts all of his trust in him. He doesn t suspect anything when Iago makes lies about Desdemonas faithfulness. His trust makes him vulnerable and results in his distrust towards his most loyal friends, Desdemona and Cassio. This eventually causes in his own catastrophe, fulfilling... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some would say jealousy is his tragic flaw, but that comes as a result of Iago much later in the play. Despite being a well spoken military leader, he pays very little attention to what Iago is actually doing. Upon plotting on how to go about stealing Cassio s position as well destroying Othello at the same time, Iago quotes The Moor is of a free and open nature that thinks men honest that but seem to be so; and will as tenderly be led by th nose as asses are (Act 1:3, 390 393) summarizing Othello s poor sense of judgement. Othello is a person who will put his trust in someone who appears honest, thus Iago uses this to his advantage. This is much like how he put his trust into Cassio, for he is one of the few who are truly loyal to the moor. He refers to Iago as honest Iago numerous times, and When used by Othello it signifies his own simplicity and capacity for being fooled (Abernethy, 337). When Iago feigns uneasiness about Desdemona and Cassio, Othello is convinced there s something he s hiding and quotes Such things in a false disloyal knave are tricks of custom, but in a man that s just they are close delations, working from the heart, that passion cannot rule (Act 3:3, 124 127). Completely fooled by Iago, he considers him his closest and more loyal friend, when really he is the disloyal knave he didn t see him to be.
