The purpose of informative speaking is to stimulate interest, facilitate understanding, and increase remembering by explaining or describing facts, truths, and principles. This can be accomplished by being intellectually stimulating, relevant, creative, and memorable while appealing to diverse learning styles such as description, definition, comparison and contrast, narration, and demonstration. An effective informative speech draws from researched knowledge on a complex topic using a variety of source materials and "oral footnotes".
