This document discusses a scheduling problem involving minimizing two criteria: total rental cost of machines and makespan (completion time) for jobs on two machines. Processing times and setup times for each job are associated with probabilities. The problem aims to find a job sequence that minimizes rental costs subject to minimizing makespan. A heuristic approach is proposed to find optimal or near-optimal sequences. Notations are defined for the problem formulation, which involves finding a job sequence that minimizes the total rental cost of machines while minimizing the total elapsed time.
