This document summarizes a research study on the working and living conditions of laborers in slums (Jhuggi Jhopadi) in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. The study analyzed data collected from 113 families living in 3 slums in the city. It found that over half of residents lived in joint families, most had migrated from nearby rural areas, and had low levels of education. Occupations were mostly daily wage work and many families earned less than Rs. 5000 per month. Respondents reported severe problems with access to schools, electricity, water, healthcare and safety. In general, the study highlights the poor socioeconomic conditions and lack of basic amenities faced by slum residents in the area.
