The informal sector in sub-Saharan Africa contributes about 80% of the GDP of this region.
But these strong actors are those who have the least access to modern banking services. This is due to unsuitable cost and banking operations. The financial operations of the informal sector will therefore remain untraceable and access to financial services and products difficult.
The model needs to be redesigned. The mobile money revolution has set the tone and pace.
The plan is simple.
The first step is to digitize savings.
The second will be to connect savers and financial institutions by adapting the pricing model to the savings ranges of these.

SXSW 2012 - Creating a Mobile Wallet Worth Having - Omar GreenIntuit Inc.
SXSWi 2012 Presentation - Creating a Mobile Wallet Worth Having: With buzzwords like “NFC” and “mobile wallet” thrown about in the press ad nauseam, consumers and the mobile and financial industries are looking for who will emerge the winner in the effort to control mobile money – and there’s a great deal of money to be had if it’s done right. But as often as the mobile wallet is lauded for its convenience, it’s derided as “a solution in search of a problem.” Ultimately, in order to meet the real needs of consumers, wallet-makers need to stop focusing solely on the technologies of mobile payments, and actually look at what will drive usage: a mobile solution that is actually worth having. This doesn’t yet exist, but it could, if application developers create tools that actually change the way merchants and consumers feel, think, spend and save money. We will discuss what the true opportunity is for the mobile wallet and the elements that need to be included to move beyond technologies like NFC, to delivering the customer benefit to end users.
MIT Enterprise Forum event on December 17 "NFC Circle" Mobile Wallet Wars and Warriors" Just about everyone in the NFC space has or plans to release a mobile wallet for one big reason – control of the consumer. But how many wallets can a consumer have or will they want? How many wallets can or will a merchant want to support? And what do both of these big stakeholders do while this is all being sorted? And what is the role of other key stakeholders like mobile operators, bank issuers and payments networks?
Our panel consists of the most important mobile wallet warriors who are on the front lines of this very exciting commerce battleground where the winner could really “take all.” They’ll speak openly about what they are doing, how merchants and consumers are responding, and where they see all of this ending up.

The number of mobile terminals has grown by 50% in the last one year. Mobile POS makes it easy for businesses to accept payments where-ever you want and whenever you want. It becomes indispensable in order to achieve end-to-end connectivity. The more diverse networks exist, the greater becomes the need to ensure that they can interoperate. Network interoperability being the ability of two networks to communicate can be achieved in two ways: either by having the two networks confirm to a common protocol standard or by defining a standard interface to which all networks need to adhere, or by providing a gateway that translates between the two protocols."

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.
