A solution is a homogeneous mixture composed of a solute dissolved in a solvent. Common examples include salt water, where the solute is salt and the solvent is water. Stirring, grinding, and heating can speed up the dissolving process by bringing more solute and solvent into contact. The maximum amount of solute that can dissolve in a solvent at a given temperature is called the solubility.
