- 1. We Build - We Fight “We build, we fight,” has been the motto of the Navy Seabees, the Navy’s deployable engineer force, since World War II. Seabees are a key component of Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC), which mans, trains and equips Navy expeditionary forces supporting maritime security and joint operations around the globe. Seabees provide a wide range of responsive military construction in support of operating forces, including roads, bridges, bunkers, airfields and logistics bases. NECC’s Seabee units are adaptive to mission requirements, scalable and agile. Seabees provide responsive military support for disaster preparation and recovery, including furnishing assistance to civilian agencies. In addition, Seabees complete civic action projects that complement nation-building programs and are known for their worldwide humanitarian efforts. Seabees can protect their projects and themselves wherever they go. Seabees are responsible for a wide variety of military construction and humanitarian efforts in times of peace or war, for example: • Repairing runways • Building detention facilities • Constructing aircraft runways and parking aprons • Constructing munitions storage areas and large scale camp sites • Erecting bridges and constructing roads • Renovating schools and municipal facilities • Repairing piers and wharves • Providing border outposts, expeditionary camps, community outreach centers, medical clinics and community clean-up “TheNavySeabeesareplayingacriticalroleintheworldtodayinbothhumanitarianandmilitary missions. May 2010 Seabees at a Glance For more information please contact the NECC Public Affairs Office at 757-462-4316 ext. 249 www.necc.navy.mil Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) Provides responsive military construction support in military operations, constructs base facilities, conducts defensive operations and also performs specialized construction such as water well drilling and battle damage repair. ConstructionBattalionMaintenanceUnit(CBMU) Provides maintenance and construction support to military bases on both coasts to construct and maintain base camps and fleet hospitals. Underwater Construction Team (UCT) Provides construction, inspection and repair of ocean facilities such as wharves, piers, underwater pipelines, moorings and boat ramps. Expeditionary Combat Camera (COMCAM) Provides video and still documentation of combat operations, contingencies, exercises and Navy events of historical significance. The First Naval Construction Division oversees approximately 16,600 Seabees worldwide. Active and reserve Naval Mobile Construction Battalions deploy regularly around the globe to support combatant commanders. Nine active duty and 12 reserve battalions are geographically dispersed throughout the United States. Seven Naval Construction Regiments exercise command and control over the 21 total battalions and other specialized units, including two Underwater Construction Teams and two Construction Battalion Maintenance Units. Naval Construction Division (NCD) Oversees seven Naval Construction Regiments and two Seabee Readiness Groups, and develops, coordinates and implements policy and requirements to man, equip and train Seabees. Provides combat construction forces to fulfill operational and forward engagement requirements. Naval Construction Regiment (NCR) Exercises operational control of two or more Naval Mobile Construction Battalions or other Naval Construction Force units operating in a specific geographic area or operating in support of a specific military operation. Seabee Readiness Group (SRG) Exercises administrative and operational control of homeported Naval Construction Battalions, provides military and technical training for active and reserve units, and ensures maximum effectiveness and operational readiness of Naval Construction Force units.
