This report presents the structural analysis of knuckle joint using finite element analysis. The analysis considered the fracture failure of the structure from a loading of 70 kN axial load. It was found that the structure has a factor of safety of 2 for this loading and failure mode. The structure is therefore satisfactory for the desire design condition. The model is done with solid work and imported into Ansys. The FEM analysis had done with different mesh type and compared the result obtained. Further study in this direction can made by using various diameter of the pin, choosing the different material and the capacity to withstand load.

Power plants release a large amount of water vapor into the
atmosphere through the stack. The flue gas can be a potential
source for obtaining much needed cooling water for a power
plant. If a power plant could recover and reuse a portion of this
moisture, it could reduce its total cooling water intake
requirement. One of the most practical way to recover water
from flue gas is to use a condensing heat exchanger. The power
plant could also recover latent heat due to condensation as well
as sensible heat due to lowering the flue gas exit temperature.
Additionally, harmful acids released from the stack can be
reduced in a condensing heat exchanger by acid condensation. reduced in a condensing heat exchanger by acid condensation.
Condensation of vapors in flue gas is a complicated
phenomenon since heat and mass transfer of water vapor and
various acids simultaneously occur in the presence of noncondensable
gases such as nitrogen and oxygen. Design of a
condenser depends on the knowledge and understanding of the
heat and mass transfer processes. A computer program for
numerical simulations of water (H2O) and sulfuric acid (H2SO4)
condensation in a flue gas condensing heat exchanger was
developed using MATLAB. Governing equations based on
mass and energy balances for the system were derived to
predict variables such as flue gas exit temperature, cooling
water outlet temperature, mole fraction and condensation rates
of water and sulfuric acid vapors. The equations were solved
using an iterative solution technique with calculations of heat
and mass transfer coefficients and physical properties.

1. A carga 𝑃 = 6.227 𝑁 é suportada por dois elementos de madeira de seção
transversal uniforme unidos pela emenda colada mostrada na figura ao
lado. Determine as tensões normal e de cisalhamento na emenda colada.
2. Dois elementos de madeira de seção transversal
retangular uniforme são unidos por uma emenda colada
como mostra a figura ao lado. Sabendo que a máxima
tensão de cisalhamento admissível na emenda é
500 𝑘𝑃𝑎, determine:
a) A maior carga 𝑃 que pode ser suportada com
segurança.
b) A tensão de tração correspondente na emenda.
3. O vínculo AB deve ser feito de um aço para o qual o
limite da tensão normal é 450 MPa. Determine a área da
seção transversal para AB para a qual o coeficiente de
segurança seja 3,50. Suponha que o vínculo seja
reforçado adequadamente ao redor dos pinos em A e B.
2. 4. Um tubo de aço de comprimento 𝐿 = 4.0 𝑓𝑡, diâmetro externo 𝑑2 = 6.0 𝑖𝑛 e
diâmetro interno 𝑑1 = 4,5 𝑖𝑛 é comprimido por uma força axial 𝑃 = 140 𝑘,
conforme figura ao lado. O material tem módulo de elasticidade 𝐸 =
30.000 𝑘𝑠𝑖 e coefciente de Poisson 𝜈 = 030. Determine as seguintes
quantidades para o tubo:
a) o encurtamento 𝛿,
b) a deformação lateral 𝜀𝑡,
c) o aumento no diâmetro externo Δ𝑑2 e no diâmetro interno Δ𝑑1 e
d) o aumento Δ𝑡 na espessura da parede.
5. Os dois elementos de madeira mostrados suportam uma carga
de 16 kN e são unidos por juntas de madeira perfeitamente
coladas pela superfície de contato. A tensão de cisalhamento
limite da cola é de 2,5 MPa e o espaçamento entre os
elementos é de 6 mm. Determine o comprimento 𝐿 necessário
para que as juntas trabalhem com um coeficiente de segurança
igual a 2,75.
6. Três parafusos de aço devem ser utilizados para fixar a chapa de aço
mostrada na figura em uma viga de madeira. Sabendo que a chapa
suportará uma carga de 110 kN e que o limite da tensão de
cisalhamento do aço utilizado é 360 MPa.
e) Determine o coeficiente de segurança para esse projeto, sendo o
diâmetro dos parafusos igual a 18mm.
f) Sabendo que é desejado um coeficiente de segurança 3,35,
determine o diâmetro necessário para os parafusos.
g) Determine a tensão de esmagamento na chapa de aço de 10 mm,
utilizando o diâmetro do parafuso encontrado no item b.
7. A barra rígida BDE é suspensa por duas barras AB e CD. A barra
AB é de alumínio (𝐸 = 70 GPa) e tem uma seção transversal
com área de 500 mm²; a barra CD é de aço (𝐸 = 200 GPa) e
tem uma seção transversal com área de 600 mm². Para a força
de 30 kN mostrada na figura ao lado, determine os
deslocamentos dos pontos:

na figura. Sabendo que o valor máximo resultante da tensão

a) a intensidade de P,
b) a orientação da superfície na qual ocorre a tensão de
cisalhamento máxima,
c) a tensão normal que atua na superfície e
d) o valor máximo da tensão normal no bloco.
9. Uma carga P de 1070 𝑘𝑁 é aplicada ao bloco de granito
mostrado na figura. Determine o valor máximo resultante da
a) tensão normal e
b) tensão de cisalhamento.
c) Especifique a orientação do plano no qual ocorre cada um
desses valores máximos.
10. A coluna de concreto de 1,5 m é reforçada com seis barras de aço,
cada uma com 28 mm de diâmetro. Sabendo que 𝐸𝑎ç𝑜 = 200 GPa e 𝐸𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑐 =
25 GPa, determine as tensões normais no aço e no concreto quando uma força
𝐏 centrada axial de 1.550 kN é aplicada à coluna.
11.Em um ensaio de tração padrão, uma barra de alumínio de 20 mm de
diâmetro está submetida a uma força de tração de 𝑃 = 30 kN. Sabendo
