1- Business Case Template comments
For this assignment you were to develop a business
case template for a social relevant project in collaboration with
your team. The template should be the same template of every
member of your group.
Although you had good discussion in the group discussion board
and have similar components of the Business Case Template,
you each submitted a different format. It is important to read
and follow direction. This is a critical skill for the project
manager to manage the scope of the project.
Your description of the purposes of the business case reflected a
good understanding of the role in developing business case
template to represents the value of the project to the
organization.
You discussed background (an important component)
Climate change (this is true only if the project is designed to
address climate change). A larger aspect might include the
impact of the project on society, called a social impact analysis
that addresses impact to people, plant, as well as profit.
You discussed purchasing. I do not see the connection to
purchasing and the justification of the project.
Benefits and values are two separate concepts. Benefits is one
of the baseline components that should be addressed in the
business case. Values can also be a component but needs more
explanation.
The ROI is a critical business case component.
You may want to review the ideas submitted in the group
discussion for additional items or changes in your project
business case. For example; Delvin suggested components that
you might want to consider.
2- Project Concept Paper Comments:
Your project appears to be a socially relevant project although
more definition is needed for your project. It appears that your
project will develop a new business that serves the dairy
farmers in a specific region by providing specific services that
will allow the dairy farmers to take advantage of collective
action.
Your project objectives a quick market for dairy products. This
sounds like the new organization or new company that the
project will create will purchase the milk from the farmers. It
also appears that the facility that you will build or create for
milk storage will be a significant improvement and offer
increased safety and quality.
Under your project outcomes, you indicate that the project will
offer milk storage services. Does this mean you will build a
storage facility or there is some other means of storing milk?
You also indicated that the new organization will market and
sell the milk. It appears that the organization may have already
developed a reliable buyer the new organization will not need to
develop a market for their product.
You indicated that the project benefit would include new job
opportunities. You did not indicate how many jobs will be
developed. It is important to be specific in these areas. You
indicated that the project was also generate revenues. It is
important to include a revenue and cost projection for the
justification of the project. In this section is important to
answer the question will you generate enough revenues to cover
the projected costs. Is this intended as a profit-making
organization or is this a nonprofit enterprise? You indicated that
the “owners will earn income”. It is important to identify the
owners. Will there be a Board of Directors? Will this be a
partnership? Will this be a single owner? The answer to this
question will provide the project sponsor and the project
sponsor often placed an important role in the project.
You indicated a project timeframe of four months. This does not
provide sufficient time for the design and construction of a new
facility. It appears that the timeframe is inconsistent with what
appears to be the scope of the project.
Your resource requirements included employees that will handle
the milk and work with the farmers. These are resources that are
needed to operate the organization after the project is complete.
It is important to separate the resources required to manage the
project from the resources required to operate the facility after
the project is complete. While resources do you need to execute
the project? This will depend on the scope of your project which
is not been clearly identified at this point.
Your project planning included an annual property rent and
again this is an annual cost associated with the managing of the
facility and not a project costs. You have a $75,000 cost for
general facilities. Is this the construction of a new facility, or
the rehabilitation of an existing facility? You did not include
any expenses for project employees. How many personnel will
be needed to execute the project? In your project charter you
will be identifying the roles and responsibilities for each of the
project employees.
You have developed a good concepts that needs more
development to more clearly defined your project. It appears
that you are developing a new organization and your project
within the to do all the necessary steps to create a new
organization including the development of a business plan for
the organization, this business plan would include a profit and
loss statement, and HR plan, a marketing or in your case
production plan, a risk plan, etc. A more detailed business plan
may be a product or outcome from the project. Think about
developing a work breakdown structure for your project and this
will help you think about the various components of the project
that will need to be developed. You will have the opportunity
and more fully developed your project and address some of
these concerns in your project scope and plan.

Cooperative Milk Collecting Center (CMCCProject Description
This project is aimed at helping the Dairy farmers to get
easy access to the market as well as improve milk safety at the
farm-level. The project will be particularly helpful and
significant to the smallholder dairy producers.
The project is a partnership between my two friends and I.
Furthermore, the project will facilitate several methods that will
assist in the improvement of the milk safety especially in the
small-scale dairying, this is because most of the farmers depend
on their dairy products they get from their dairy animals to sell
and at least earn a living from this activity. This project,
therefore, will enable farmers to eradicate milk spoilage and
will further improve the quality of the milk. The project is
specifically aimed at solving Milk Spoilage Problem which I
have observed happening for quite some years now. However,
the result of the project will address the problem in a number of
ways: the project will offer storage facilities for the Milk
brought by the farmers, the project will facilitate transportation
of the milk to the market on behalf of the farmer's et
cetera.Objectives
The project aims to help farmers get a quick market for their
dairy products since they will be supplying their milk to the
collection center where the milk will then be sold on their
behalf. Secondly, the project also aims at eradicating milk
spoilage as storage facilities that will effectively store milk will
be offered. Last but not least, the project intends to ensure the
quality of the milk as a number of quality tests will be going on
to ascertain the various milk components also check for
bacteria, pathogens among other key factors that may result in
milk danger.
Moreover, quality testing of the milk will be done at the
collection center before the milk in stores and sold to the
consumers. Quality testing will mainly focus to determine the
microbial quality, water adulteration, as well as the presence of
mastitis in the herd. Quality testing will provide a platform
where the farmers will be given special advice regarding how
they should take care of their dairy animals to ensure high and
quality yields.Project Outcome
The project will offer several services, the first service the
project intends to offer is the milk storage services that will
ensure milk does not go bad. According to the research I carried
out, many farmers do not have milk storage facilities and since
milk is not durable, as it only stays for hours and then goes bad
so many farmers incur lose when the milk goes bad as they do
not have storage facilities. The project intends to provide
fridges that will assist in the storage and also other milk storage
facilities.
Secondly, the project also will focus on selling milk on behalf
of the customers. It is clear that many farmers are not able to
get access to a quick market and this is the main reason why
most of their dairy products go bad. Since we have a direct link
with the National Milk Corporation, we intend to collect milk
from the farmers and sell to the National Milk Corporation
immediately we get from the farmers, this will ensure a quick
market and also the milk won’t stay for long before getting to
the market.Project Benefits
Several tangible benefits that will be obtained as a result
of the project include: Moreover, the project is likely to create a
number of job opportunities, this is because some people will
have to be employed to offer a number of services as the
project. Besides, we as the project owners will also earn some
income since the farmers will be charged a certain but
affordable amount for the services offered. For every service
offered, we shall be charging a specific amount, this amount
will help in expanding as well as improving the services that the
project will offer.
Several intangible benefits that are likely to arise as a
result of the project include: Farmers will get instant market for
their dairy products and this will save them market search cost,
time that they could waste while searching for the market.
usually, the farmers will only be supplying their milk to the
collection centers and then wait for payment.
The project will also save the farmers the storage space
considering the fact that once they produce their milk, they
supply it to the collection center. Also, this will not only save
their storage space but also relieve them of a number of risks
that could happen. Moreover, other indirect benefits are likely
to occur such as improvement of the economy as well as the
living standards of the farmers among other benefits.Estimated
Start and Finish Dates
This project has to take only four months until completion, the
setting up of the project will begin on 3rd October 2019 and by
the 2nd of February 2020, the project will start offering the
intended services.
However, the assumption regarding the dates is that we shall be
preparing the project every day. This will ensure that all
necessary resources that are required are assembled. However,
some challenges are likely to be experienced, such as
insufficient finances to purchase required resources, bad
weather may also affect the installation of the project among
other challenges.Resource Requirements
The project will require several resources for effective goal
achievement, the resources will include both human and non-
human resources. Human resources will include the Employees
who will offer a number of services, employees will handle the
milk and put it where it is required as the farmers deliver to the
collection center. Furthermore, they also are involved with
directing farmers where to put their items when they come to
the collection center. Other employees will also be responsible
for recording the farmers’ information such as the quantity of
milk delivered, their personal information et cetera. Cleanliness
will also be offered by other employees.
Several non-human resources will also be required, they include
finances that will be used to purchase various facilities required
for the project for instance fridges among other essential
facilities. Particularly, the project will require stores, water and
electricity supply among other key resources. The utilization of
these resources will enable the provision of quality
services.Estimated Funding Requirements
This project is likely to cost a large amount of money
considering all the facilities required to ensure an effective
project. moreover, the cost of these facilities is also high. Some
of the facilities required are as shown in the table below.
facility
cost per facility
total cost
20 Mechanical Refrigeration or Cooling Tanks
$500
$1000
General Facilities
$500
Other Expenses
$300
In summary, the total Budget of the Project is estimated to be
$240,000

Business Case
A business case must offer analysis to ensure that whatever is
proposed is the correct type of investment which is affordable,
desirable and viable as well as providing value for money to the
shareholders and also to the customers(Gambles, 2012). A well-
structured and designed business case template comprises the
following components:
The project background which is an official document
encompassing a shared explanation of whatever is to be
anticipated to be done when combating climate change, as well
as what the prerequisites are for the climate change together
with how to produce the probable volume of work. Therefore,
this document has to be formed before the execution process to
lay a basis for more goal or target establishment as well as
implementation.
Furthermore, the primary purpose of the background is to offer
an outline of the project for the decision to be made on the
requirement or need to perform the project together with
starting the process of planning. Thus, when writing the
background for any project, the primary motive or focus must
be positioned on offering an overall impression as well as
explain the crucial fundamentals. And this basically will let the
probable investors get the original idea regarding climate
change (Benghozi, Krob, Lonjon, & Panetto, 2013).
Another component is the options for the solution needed to
combat climate change. And one way of narrowing down the
emphasis to make the correct solution vibrant is to trail the
succeeding steps: noting the alternate solutions, enumerating
the benefits each and every solution, estimating the charges
involved in every answer, figuring out the feasibility, discerning
the risks of the climate change as well as the issues that are
associated with each of the solution and finally documenting all
the solutions listed in the business case. Its purpose is to assist
in identification of options that addresses the risks resulting
from the alternative solutions as well as other pressures,
reassessment of options as well as approaches from the existing
designs or plans thus help in determining if they are still
applicable and so on (Benghozi, Krob, Lonjon, & Panetto,
2013).
Associated costs refer to all those additional or extra charges
that are needed to be considered when purchasing something.
For instance, when buying a product from Amazon, such as
protective wears to be used to prevent adverse effects of the
climate change from affecting peoples heal, one of the costs that
will be associated with the product ordered is transportation
which will be the extra payment alongside the value of the
product itself. And if at all the product purchased requires
setting up or installation as well as contracting, then there will
be other costs associated with that product purchase. The
purpose of the associated costs is that the expenditure of a
product or anything, for instance, time, as well as labor, is
essential for the accomplishment of a target or goal(Benghozi,
Krob, Lonjon, & Panetto, 2013).
Benefits and values are another component of the business case
whereby the business benefit refers to a concrete result of an
achievement/action or even decide that aids in meeting the
objectives of the business, which is coming up with the
strategies of preventing climate change and its associated
dangers. The business benefit idea is vital in the premeditated
scheduling, cost/benefit studies, together with business case
scrutiny. Therefore, in a company, for instance, the business
forecasters evaluate the savings and activities by expecting
probable cost as well as the benefit results or outcomes. Some
varieties of benefits are much easier to quantify or measure as
well as value than others (Benghozi, Krob, Lonjon, & Panetto,
2013).
Also, return on investment being one of the components of the
business case is a performance degree that is utilized when
evaluating an investment’s efficiency or when comparing the
effectiveness of several different investments. Return on
investment, therefore, tries to measure directly the quantity of
return on a specific investment, concerning the cost of the
investment. The primary purpose of the performance on
investment metric is to measure, for every period, charges of
return on the money that is invested in a commercial unit to
draw a decision on whether or not to assume an investment. And
so it is also used as a gauge to associate diverse investments
that are within a portfolio(Benghozi, Krob, Lonjon, & Panetto,
2013).

1- Business Case Template comments For this assignment you wer.docx

  • 1. 1- Business Case Template comments For this assignment you were to develop a business case template for a social relevant project in collaboration with your team. The template should be the same template of every member of your group. Although you had good discussion in the group discussion board and have similar components of the Business Case Template, you each submitted a different format. It is important to read and follow direction. This is a critical skill for the project manager to manage the scope of the project. Your description of the purposes of the business case reflected a good understanding of the role in developing business case template to represents the value of the project to the organization. You discussed background (an important component) Climate change (this is true only if the project is designed to address climate change). A larger aspect might include the impact of the project on society, called a social impact analysis that addresses impact to people, plant, as well as profit. You discussed purchasing. I do not see the connection to purchasing and the justification of the project. Benefits and values are two separate concepts. Benefits is one of the baseline components that should be addressed in the business case. Values can also be a component but needs more explanation. The ROI is a critical business case component. You may want to review the ideas submitted in the group discussion for additional items or changes in your project business case. For example; Delvin suggested components that you might want to consider.
  • 2. 2- Project Concept Paper Comments: Your project appears to be a socially relevant project although more definition is needed for your project. It appears that your project will develop a new business that serves the dairy farmers in a specific region by providing specific services that will allow the dairy farmers to take advantage of collective action. Your project objectives a quick market for dairy products. This sounds like the new organization or new company that the project will create will purchase the milk from the farmers. It also appears that the facility that you will build or create for milk storage will be a significant improvement and offer increased safety and quality. Under your project outcomes, you indicate that the project will offer milk storage services. Does this mean you will build a storage facility or there is some other means of storing milk? You also indicated that the new organization will market and sell the milk. It appears that the organization may have already developed a reliable buyer the new organization will not need to develop a market for their product. You indicated that the project benefit would include new job opportunities. You did not indicate how many jobs will be developed. It is important to be specific in these areas. You indicated that the project was also generate revenues. It is important to include a revenue and cost projection for the justification of the project. In this section is important to answer the question will you generate enough revenues to cover the projected costs. Is this intended as a profit-making organization or is this a nonprofit enterprise? You indicated that the “owners will earn income”. It is important to identify the
  • 3. owners. Will there be a Board of Directors? Will this be a partnership? Will this be a single owner? The answer to this question will provide the project sponsor and the project sponsor often placed an important role in the project. You indicated a project timeframe of four months. This does not provide sufficient time for the design and construction of a new facility. It appears that the timeframe is inconsistent with what appears to be the scope of the project. Your resource requirements included employees that will handle the milk and work with the farmers. These are resources that are needed to operate the organization after the project is complete. It is important to separate the resources required to manage the project from the resources required to operate the facility after the project is complete. While resources do you need to execute the project? This will depend on the scope of your project which is not been clearly identified at this point. Your project planning included an annual property rent and again this is an annual cost associated with the managing of the facility and not a project costs. You have a $75,000 cost for general facilities. Is this the construction of a new facility, or the rehabilitation of an existing facility? You did not include any expenses for project employees. How many personnel will be needed to execute the project? In your project charter you will be identifying the roles and responsibilities for each of the project employees. You have developed a good concepts that needs more development to more clearly defined your project. It appears that you are developing a new organization and your project within the to do all the necessary steps to create a new organization including the development of a business plan for the organization, this business plan would include a profit and loss statement, and HR plan, a marketing or in your case production plan, a risk plan, etc. A more detailed business plan may be a product or outcome from the project. Think about
  • 4. developing a work breakdown structure for your project and this will help you think about the various components of the project that will need to be developed. You will have the opportunity and more fully developed your project and address some of these concerns in your project scope and plan. 1 - Business Case T emplate comments For this assignment you were to develop a bu siness case template for a social relevant project in collaboration with your team. • 8. Project Name Cooperative Milk Collecting Center (CMCCProject Description This project is aimed at helping the Dairy farmers to get easy access to the market as well as improve milk safety at the farm-level. The project will be particularly helpful and significant to the smallholder dairy producers. The project is a partnership between my two friends and I. Furthermore, the project will facilitate several methods that will assist in the improvement of the milk safety especially in the small-scale dairying, this is because most of the farmers depend on their dairy products they get from their dairy animals to sell and at least earn a living from this activity. This project, therefore, will enable farmers to eradicate milk spoilage and will further improve the quality of the milk. The project is specifically aimed at solving Milk Spoilage Problem which I have observed happening for quite some years now. However, the result of the project will address the problem in a number of ways: the project will offer storage facilities for the Milk brought by the farmers, the project will facilitate transportation of the milk to the market on behalf of the farmer's et cetera. Objectives The project aims to help farmers get a quick market for their dairy products since they will be supplying their milk to the collection center where the milk will then be sold on their behalf. Secondly, the project also aims at eradicating milk spoilage as storage facilities that will effectively store milk will be offered. Last but not least, the project intends to ensure the quality of the milk as a number of quality tests will be going on to ascertain the various milk components also check for bacteria, pathogens among other key factors that may result in milk danger.
  • 9. Moreover, quality testing of the milk will be done at the collection center before the milk in stores and sold to the consumers. Quality testing will mainly focus to determine the microbial quality, water adulteration, as well as the presence of mastitis in the herd. Quality testing will provide a platform where the farmers will be given special advice regarding how they should take care of their dairy animals to ensure high and quality yields.Project Outcome The project will offer several services, the first service the project intends to offer is the milk storage services that will ensure milk does not go bad. According to the research I carried out, many farmers do not have milk storage facilities and since milk is not durable, as it only stays for hours and then goes bad so many farmers incur lose when the milk goes bad as they do not have storage facilities. The project intends to provide fridges that will assist in the storage and also other milk storage facilities. Secondly, the project also will focus on selling milk on behalf of the customers. It is clear that many farmers are not able to get access to a quick market and this is the main reason why most of their dairy products go bad. Since we have a direct link with the National Milk Corporation, we intend to collect milk from the farmers and sell to the National Milk Corporation immediately we get from the farmers, this will ensure a quick market and also the milk won’t stay for long before getting to the market.Project Benefits Several tangible benefits that will be obtained as a result of the project include: Moreover, the project is likely to create a number of job opportunities, this is because some people will have to be employed to offer a number of services as the project. Besides, we as the project owners will also earn some income since the farmers will be charged a certain but affordable amount for the services offered. For every service offered, we shall be charging a specific amount, this amount will help in expanding as well as improving the services that the project will offer.
  • 10. Several intangible benefits that are likely to arise as a result of the project include: Farmers will get instant market for their dairy products and this will save them market search cost, time that they could waste while searching for the market. usually, the farmers will only be supplying their milk to the collection centers and then wait for payment. The project will also save the farmers the storage space considering the fact that once they produce their milk, they supply it to the collection center. Also, this will not only save their storage space but also relieve them of a number of risks that could happen. Moreover, other indirect benefits are likely to occur such as improvement of the economy as well as the living standards of the farmers among other benefits.Estimated Start and Finish Dates This project has to take only four months until completion, the setting up of the project will begin on 3rd October 2019 and by the 2nd of February 2020, the project will start offering the intended services. However, the assumption regarding the dates is that we shall be preparing the project every day. This will ensure that all necessary resources that are required are assembled. Running head: BUSINESS 1 BUSINESS 3 Business Case Name Institutional Affiliation Date of Submission Business Case A business case must offer analysis to ensure that whatever is proposed is the correct type of investment which is affordable, desirable and viable as well as providing value for money to the shareholders and also to the customers(Gambles, 2012). A well- structured and designed business case template comprises the following components: The project background which is an official document encompassing a shared explanation of whatever is to be anticipated to be done when combating climate change, as well as what the prerequisites are for the climate change together with how to produce the probable volume of work. Therefore, this document has to be formed before the execution process to
  • 15. lay a basis for more goal or target establishment as well as implementation. Furthermore, the primary purpose of the background is to offer an outline of the project for the decision to be made on the requirement or need to perform the project together with starting the process of planning. Thus, when writing the background for any project, the primary motive or focus must be positioned on offering an overall impression as well as explain the crucial fundamentals. And this basically will let the probable investors get the original idea regarding climate change (Benghozi, Krob, Lonjon, & Panetto, 2013). Another component is the options for the solution needed to combat climate change. And one way of narrowing down the emphasis to make the correct solution vibrant is to trail the succeeding steps: noting the alternate solutions, enumerating the benefits each and every solution, estimating the charges involved in every answer, figuring out the feasibility, discerning the risks of the climate change as well as the issues that are associated with each of the solution and finally documenting all the solutions listed in the business case. Its purpose is to assist in identification of options that addresses the risks resulting from the alternative solutions as well as other pressures, reassessment of options as well as approaches from the existing designs or plans thus help in determining if they are still applicable and so on (Benghozi, Krob, Lonjon, & Panetto, 2013). Associated costs refer to all those additional or extra charges that are needed to be considered when purchasing something. For instance, when buying a product from Amazon, such as protective wears to be used to prevent adverse effects of the climate change from affecting peoples heal, one of the costs that will be associated with the product ordered is transportation which will be the extra payment alongside the value of the product itself. And if at all the product purchased requires setting up or installation as well as contracting, then there will be other costs associated with that product purchase. The
  • 16. purpose of the associated costs is that the expenditure of a product or anything, for instance, time, as well as labor, is essential for the accomplishment of a target or goal(Benghozi, Krob, Lonjon, & Panetto, 2013). Benefits and values are another component of the business case whereby the business benefit refers to a concrete result of an achievement/action or even decide that aids in meeting the objectives of the business, which is coming up with the strategies of preventing climate change and its associated dangers. The business benefit idea is vital in the premeditated scheduling, cost/benefit studies, together with business case scrutiny. Therefore, in a company, for instance, the business forecasters evaluate the savings and activities by expecting probable cost as well as the benefit results or outcomes. Some varieties of benefits are much easier to quantify or measure as well as value than others (Benghozi, Krob, Lonjon, & Panetto, 2013). Also, return on investment being one of the components of the business case is a performance degree that is utilized when evaluating an investment’s efficiency or when comparing the effectiveness of several different investments. Return on investment, therefore, tries to measure directly the quantity of return on a specific investment, concerning the cost of the investment. The primary purpose of the performance on investment metric is to measure, for every period, charges of return on the money that is invested in a commercial unit to draw a decision on whether or not to assume an investment. And so it is also used as a gauge to associate diverse investments that are within a portfolio(Benghozi, Krob, Lonjon, & Panetto, 2013).
