This document summarizes a study that used the SIFT algorithm to classify images on Flickr. The researchers extracted visual features from images using SIFT, which generates robust keypoints even with changes in scale and rotation. The features were then clustered into "visual words" and histograms of visual words were used to classify images into categories. The researchers found SIFT had better accuracy for image classification than SURF. They believe their method can more accurately classify the variety of images on Flickr.
