Open source cloud adoption is growing, with 30% of respondents currently using an open source cloud in 2012, up from 17.2% in 2010, resulting in a 72% growth rate. Security, lack of in-house skills, lack of support and maturity were cited as the top four reasons for not choosing an open source cloud solution. The key attributes of cloud computing include shared/pooled resources, broad network access, on-demand self-service, scalability and elasticity, and usage-based metering. Open source investments should be analyzed with a full return on investment to address potential cost savings and increased business value.
