This document defines 10 important Earth science terms: the asthenosphere is the layer between the upper and lower mantle; the inner core is made of iron and nickel at the center of Earth; the outer core is the coating around the inner core; P waves and s waves are types of seismic waves that can travel through solids and liquids; L waves only travel on land and cause the most damage; convection is the transfer of heat through liquids; convection currents involve warm fluid rising and cool fluid sinking in the mantle; density refers to how tightly packed atoms are in an object; and the exosphere is the outermost layer of the atmosphere.
