Minergy vitrification technology



      Vitrification is a process that melts materials with
      heat and fusion


      Feedstocks may include inorganic and organic
      materials

      	Organic fraction is a renewable fuel source

      	Inorganic fraction transforms into inert,
      	 beneficially reusale glass aggregate.


      Glass aggregate byproduct approved for use in:


      	Asphalt pavements	

      	Pozzolan substitute (cement extender)	

      	Floor tiles

      	Utility trench fill	

      	Roofing shingles 		

      	      Blasting grit

SPENT POT LINING                                                                Minergy status
      Aluminum production is a continuous process where different materials are
      molted within a refractory lined ‘pot’
                                                                                      In 2011 Minergy developed a patent pending system for the treatment of SPL

      SPL is produced as a waste stream from this process
                                                                                      The Minergy design is highly innovative and combines a number of proven tech-
                                                                                      nologies (including Minergy’s Glass Furnace technology) into a single integrated
      Approximately 500,000 tonnes of SPL produced each year, and volumes are         plant
      steadily increasing
                                                                                      Multiple by-products are produced by the treatment process, which can be resold
      SPL is expensive to treat, with no sustainable solution to-date                 commercially – some at a significantly value


      Much SPL is being stockpiled around the world in hope that a viable long term   The Minergy design has been reviewed in detail by one of the largest
      solution will be developed in the future                                        environmental services companies in the world

      Stockpiled SPL could well total more than 4M tonnes                             Regulatory conditions globally continue to evolve to support deployment of

      Technology is comprised of a series of integrated processes:

      	Material sizing process

      	Carbon Burn Out process to generate electricity and remove carbon
      	 from SPL

      	Flouride recovery process

      	Melting and glass production process (including oxygen production
      	 subsystem) and production of glass aggregate

      	      Emissions treatment and sulfuric acid recovery process (for use in   	
      	      production of marketable materials)

      	Process to produce marketable materials from flouride recovery
      	process


      Process produces excess electricity

      Natural gas required to power melter

      Very low emissions

      process outputs
      and economics



      A typical 30,000 tonne per year SPL treatment plant produces:


      	      19,000 tonnes of inert, reusable glass aggregate

      	      5,600 tonnes of resalable materials (e.g. cryolite)

      	Revenue can be generated from the sale of outputs from
      	 the process



      Minergy SPL Plants can treat 25,000 – 100,00 tonnes of SPL per year

      	Smaller plants can be built subject to financial justification



      Plant investment will typically range from:

      	 €30M – 90M
      	US$40M – 120M

BACKGROUND Minergy processes high volume, complex/ hazarous waste in a highly efficient and environmentally sensitive manner Patented, award winning, proven vitrification technology for treatment of multiple waste streams Founded in1993, originally as a subsidiary of Wisconsin Energy Constructed four fully functional plants Minergy plants are compact, have low emissions, and the only by-product is inert glass aggregate Three versions of Minergy technology developed to address a wide range of waste streams Over €75M(US$100M) in aggregate R&D investment to date Technology has been endorsed by the US EPA and 3 of the largest environmental services companies in the world Minergy has developed a number of unique solutions for specific industries 03. 04.

Minergy vitrification technology Vitrification is a process that melts materials with heat and fusion Feedstocks may include inorganic and organic materials Organic fraction is a renewable fuel source Inorganic fraction transforms into inert, beneficially reusale glass aggregate. Glass aggregate byproduct approved for use in: Asphalt pavements Pozzolan substitute (cement extender) Floor tiles Utility trench fill Roofing shingles Blasting grit 05. 06.

SPENT POT LINING Minergy status Aluminum production is a continuous process where different materials are molted within a refractory lined ‘pot’ In 2011 Minergy developed a patent pending system for the treatment of SPL SPL is produced as a waste stream from this process The Minergy design is highly innovative and combines a number of proven tech- nologies (including Minergy’s Glass Furnace technology) into a single integrated Approximately 500,000 tonnes of SPL produced each year, and volumes are plant steadily increasing Multiple by-products are produced by the treatment process, which can be resold SPL is expensive to treat, with no sustainable solution to-date commercially – some at a significantly value Much SPL is being stockpiled around the world in hope that a viable long term The Minergy design has been reviewed in detail by one of the largest solution will be developed in the future environmental services companies in the world Stockpiled SPL could well total more than 4M tonnes Regulatory conditions globally continue to evolve to support deployment of Minergy technology for the treatment of SPL. Minergy Spent Pot Lining Technology Technology is comprised of a series of integrated processes: Material sizing process Carbon Burn Out process to generate electricity and remove carbon from SPL Flouride recovery process Melting and glass production process (including oxygen production subsystem) and production of glass aggregate Emissions treatment and sulfuric acid recovery process (for use in production of marketable materials) Process to produce marketable materials from flouride recovery process Process produces excess electricity Natural gas required to power melter Very low emissions 07. 08.

Minergy SPL process outputs and economics A typical 30,000 tonne per year SPL treatment plant produces: 19,000 tonnes of inert, reusable glass aggregate 5,600 tonnes of resalable materials (e.g. cryolite) Revenue can be generated from the sale of outputs from the process Minergy SPL Plants can treat 25,000 – 100,00 tonnes of SPL per year Smaller plants can be built subject to financial justification Plant investment will typically range from: €30M – 90M US$40M – 120M 19. 34.
