The settings and props are important in a
scene, because it can set the mood of the
upcoming events and manipulates the
audience into predicting the forthcoming
future of the movie.
The setting and props is important in this
scene because it immediately indicates to
the audience that something bad has
happened and makes the audience into
predicting what. Also the use of the heart
beat monitor as a prop is important
because it gives the audience an indication
that Sarah has been injured in the car
crash and makes the audience wonder for
the well being of her daughter and
husband who were also horrifically injured
in the car crash.
3. Costume, hair and make-up
Costume, hair and make-up is important in a
movie, because it dictates to us the
characters mood, personality and state of
mind. Also, costume, hair and make-up is an
indicator of the the time in which the movie
is set.
The costume, hair and makeup is important
in this scene as it shows that Sarah has been
injured in the car crash and has survived.
This is important because from the last
scene the audience were left predicting and
guessing if Sarah or anyone else who was in
the car crash has survived or not, and this
breaks the tension.
4. Facial expressions and body language
Facial expressions and body language is
important in a movie, because facial
expressions and body language can act
as an indicator to the audience of how
the character is feeling and what mood
they are in. the body language of a
character can also suggest to the
audience of how the character is feeling
towards another character and the
relationship to them.
The facial expressions and body
language is important in this scene
because it presents to the audience that
Sarah’s husband and daughter have died
in the car crash. Also, it shows how big of
an impact the death has had on her as
we can see she does not have strength
to stand up and support herself.
5. Lighting and Colour
The lighting and colour of a scene can dictate the
mood and meaning of it. The lighting and colour
can also create a dramatic effect in the scene and
compliment the personality of the characters.
The lighting in the first screen shot is important
as it signifies darkness and distress. Also, it is
important because the lack of lighting and and
the green glow foreshadows here running away
from the crawlers in the cave latter on in the
movie, as the same green glow effect is used in
the first encounter with the crawlers.
6. Positioning of characters/objects
within the frame
The positioning of character object within the frame
is important because the position in a frame can
dictate the importance of the character and draw
attention to the character or object.
The positioning of the character is important in both
frames, as the director uses the positioning to
emphasize the significance of the death of Sarah’s
daughter and husband. In the first print screen the
positioning within the frame is used to show that
Sarah does not have the strength to stand up after
she got the news of the death and in the second
print screen the use of the positioning is used to
show that Sarah’s husband and daughter has died
and is all alone now.
