1. The Production Outline of my romantic film trailer
The beginning of my trailer is going to be showing when the male and female characters
meet for the first time. This will be done through a range of close ups shots, wide shots and
possibly two shots to represent the attraction between them- as I need to express this
physical lust in this scene.
The second scene I want to use this as the scene where I introduce the author of this film
who is also the author of a successful romance book. I want this to be set against a sunset as
this is conventional setting as the low key lighting connotes romance and the colours of the
sunset also represent love.
A want a few shots to be focused on the characters enjoying each other’s company which
follows their blossoming romance. These shots could possibly be in a restaurant or out
somewhere such as in a city. These shots need to be close up shots to allow their facial
expressions to be seen as well as being able to see the background setting.
I want this trailer to act as though I have picked out a variety of scenes from the film and
have used these scenes to depict some of the story but then also leave the audience in
speculation over the couple’s relationship. I am going to use a scene which suggests the
male is a Royal Marine and therefore cannot stay with his new found love. This is then going
to be followed by the female character reinforcing this by saying the line ‘You’re a marine?’.
Once this has been shown, I am going to use a range of different shots of various scenes
which suggest the couple have stayed together and which suggest otherwise. I also want to
evoke a dramatic storyline during this trailer which feeds the audience with an urge to go
and see the film.
I am going to use different scenes of the two characters crying at some point during the
second half of the trailer which suggests they are finding the relationship apart hard or they
have finished with each other. This is conventional in a romance trailer because it leaves the
audience wondering what happens which is what compels the audience to go and see the
film. During the females scene I am going to use mascara to run down her face as this is
conventional for her stereotypical feminine appearance as females are often expected in film
to have make-up running down their face if they’ve been crying.
I also want to use scenes where the couple are showing scenes where the couple express
their romance such as a scene I am going to use where the male returns home and the
female runs and jumps into him. This scene is going to be a match on action which jumps
from a wide shot to a mid shot. This scene is going to be followed up by a mid shot of the
couple kissing. This is conventional to genre as it is significant to their relationship and the
romance between them.
I particularly wish to use a dissolve in my trailer. I am going to use the male’s face which
slowly dissolves into a shot of the moon. The shot of the moon is conventional because it
gives ambient lighting which is low key which connotes romance. The moon is also seen as
romantic because the lighting that the moon lets off produces a silver tone on things such as
water which creates a very beautiful effect.
2. I am going to include a scene where the couple are hanging out in a lounge. This interior
scene will represent how the relationship has moved forward so that the couple are now
relaxed within each other’s company. This is conventional to genre because it signifies their
growing relationship. I will used a wide shot for this shot as I want them seated on a sofa in
a comfortable and relaxed way so that it expresses this idea.
During the trailer, I want to use a scene which symbolises the distance between them whilst
he is away and she is at home. To do this, I am going to take a video of the land such as
grass or fields and then speed this up so that it looks as though the camera has covered an
extensive amount of land. This is going to symbolise the distance which is conventional
because it represents the catalyst in the relationship.
To bring more of a diversity of scenes to the trailer, I want to include a ‘parent’ of one of the
characters. I am going to use my Dad as the female characters father in the trailer. She is
going to introduce her ‘boyfriend’ to her ‘Dad’. I feel that this is conventional for genre as it
expresses the seriousness of their growing relationship. To do this, I am going to take a mid
shot/ two shot of the couple standing in a doorway and the female says ‘This is my Dad’. This
will then be followed by a shot of the Father looking up at them from a chair.
