INTRODUCTION
We make calls everyday, in a noisy sub way or in a car with a person.
And our voices are transmitted through the speakers.
The problem is anyone can hear the transmitted sound.
Users of smart watches make calls on speaker phone.
Meaning they have almost no privacy.
Your phone rings, shattering the silence.
But it’s deep inside your bag.
And you frantically fumble through your belongings.
Then how can we solve the aforementioned problems?
Finally we found the answer, taking cues from vibration.
Innomdle Lab has just launched a Kickstarter campaign for a new
wearable that is looking to take a jab at convention by forming
speakers from fingertips.
The Sgnl smart strap is designed to transmit vibrations through the
hand, which become amplified sound upon one touching an ear.
Simply we can say SGNL-TOUCH YOUR SOUND
HISTORYOFSGNL
The age-old game of fake phone that children used to play has been
taken into the concept and turned into reality.
A colleague was boasting about his smart watch, but was
embarrassed by the fact that everyone around him could hear the
conversation,” said Hyunchul Choi, CEO of Innomdle Lab and
creator of Sgnl.
Once this colleague of Choi inspired him to seek a solution, Choi
forged forward “by developing a solution using one’s finger to
transmit sound.”
He immediately presented the idea to Samsung’s internal
corporate venture department and Sgnl was born.
We first became aware of the Sgnl smart strap when it was
unveiled as TipTalk at CES 2015. It seems that development
has progressed well since then – the fifth-generation
prototype has been set as the final Sgnl design.
First they use this technology on April fool prank in US.

PROTOTYPE MODELS
Developers believe in the power of design
They gone through numerous prototypes to make Sgnl sleek
and easy to use
Here showing the evolution of Sgnl from its first prototype to
its current and final design(ie, the 5th generation, Sgnl)
SGNLSMARTSTRAP
Sgnl strap is a smart strap, that enables us to answer phone calls through
our fingertip.
Simply place your fingertip to ear while speak through the embedded
microphone.
Replace your existing watch strap with Sgnl strap and we can enjoy with
fingertip communication
With Sgnl, we can keep your cell phone in your pocket or bag and simply
raise your finger to answer the phone calls without caring any extra headset
or ear phone.
It can also pairs with smart phone and uses vibration rather than
small screen
It also indicate some of the same notifications as the CT Band,
including messages and activity track.
The Sgnl band receives voice like a normal Bluetooth headset.
WORKINGOF SGNL
The Sgnl receives voice signals from the phone through Bluetooth
Sgnl will generate vibrations through its Body Conduction Unit (BCU).
Thus the transmission from the hand to the fingertip will take place.
As transmission is made through vibrations, so there is no risk of
harm to the human body.
When fingertip reaches to the ear, vibration echoes to create
amplified sound.
The Sgnl strap can be closely associated with Bluetooth for mobile
connectivity.
It does not take much power and it should last for 7 days with 4
hours of continuous voice calling.
And it is charged via a Micro USB cable.
The key technology of Sgnl strap is BCU.
Fingertip communication
Here your caller’s voice simply by placing your fingertip on your
ear as you speak through a microphone embedded in a Sgnl strap.
To enable fingertip communication, only slight contact with the
skin is required.
The volume and sound quality may be slighty effected by degree of
skin contact.
ADVANTAGES OF FINGERTIP
COMMUNICATION
IMMEDIATE CALL RECEPTION:
Leave the phone alone, don’t carry extra devices.
With SNGL, answering calls is direct and immediate. There is no
need to rummage through bags when the phone rings or carry
around extra headsets or earphones. Users can simply raise their
finger to their ear to answer calls.
VOICE CLARITY:
 Hear clearly, even in loud places
 Even in the noisiest of surroundings, users can hear their calls
clearly. With Sgnl, their finger doesn’t just transmit the voice to their
ear, it also blocks out background noise.
LISTENING PRIVACY:
 Don’t worry about others listening in.
 With Sgnl, users can take calls discretely. As sound is contained
within the users’ ear, only the wearer of Sgnl can hear the call.
Whether in a meeting room or in a packed elevator, users never need
to worry about being overheard. Sgnl is particularly useful for smart
watch wearers as it can prevent others from listening into
conversations over their speaker phones.
Structure:
HARDWARECOMPONENTS
The hardware components of Sgnl strap:
Function Button
Volume Up Button
Microphone
Body Conduction Unit (BCU)
Volume Down Button
Do Not Distrub Mode
LED Lights
Function Button
Users are physically notified of incoming calls, and then clicking on the
function button to accept the incoming calls.
Volume up and volume down:
Users can adjusts the volume levels through the buttons on the band.
Microphone:
Simply place your fingertip to your ear and speak through the embedded
microphone. This microphone is helps to ensure that conversation are 2-way.
Body Conduction Unit (BCU)
•The key technology behind sgnl
•The BCU allow users to hear voice and also blocking out background
voice
•BCU is a conduction unit capable of transmitting vibrations through
the human body.it contain two techniques
An Actuator
An Audio Algorithm
ACTUATOR:
It generates body conducible vibration with low power
consumption.
Actuator unit generates vibrations as it presses against the
wrist.
AUDIO ALGORITHM
An audio algorithm that selectively amplifies voice signals
with proper wavelength modulation.
Algorithm embedded within Sgnl are designed to
complement the actuator unit by focusing on and amplifying
the voice signals
 Do-Not- Disturb Mode
The device still vibrate every time a message or call is received.
If we activate Do- Not –Disturb Mode then the device does not vibrates as expected.
LED Lights:
The sgnl has independent call system.
Throgth the sgnl app we can set 5 contacts. Thus way we will be able to make an
outgoing call.
Each of the contacts will match one of the 5 corresponding LED lights.
Cycling's these lights using the volume buttons.
Select light and presses the function button for outgoing calling system
We can make 5 designated contacts without touching your phone
SoundQualitytest:
• The blue graph represents the original sound signal as inputted.
• The Magenta graph represents sound signals when received
through the tip of the fingertip.
In the transmission of speech the voice frequency ranges approx. around 2000 Hz.
Within this range the sound signals through the fingertip don’t show much variation from the
original signal.
However, when this 2000Hz threshold is exceeded, the disparity between the sound signals
begins to grow. This growing variance shows that it can be difficult to experience high quality
sound when listening to music through the fingertip.
With Sgnl, our primary focus is the transmission of the human voice, therefore we continue to
diligently work towards lessening variation in that frequency range.
Once frequency response in that range meets our standards, we have plans to extend Sgnl’s
functionality to work across a wider range of frequencies.
As Sgnl was developed to transmit sound through a Body Conduction Unit (BCU), the
clearest sound and the most accurate way to experience fingertip communication is by
hearing it through the finger. However, that would be very difficult to capture for you
to hear on an audio file or video. Therefore, we have performed this demo utilizing a
stethoscope sensor, which unfortunately creates imperfections in the transmission of
noise while adding its own micro-noise.
watchcompatibility
Sgnl can be attached to most standard watch lugs with a strap width from 18 mm - 24 mm.
The key is the shape & size of our watch lug.
The important measurements to keep in mind are:
1. Strap Width
2. Distance between Sgnl Strap and the Spring Bar and
3. Distance between the Watch Face and the Spring Bar.
Sgnl is a wearable smart strap, a watch companion. It is designed to fit
all sorts of classic and smart watches with its specially designed lug
adapter

And when a voice signal is received, Sgnl will generate
vibrations through its BCU.
These vibrations will be sent through the users’ hand to
their fingertip.
When users place their fingertip to their ear, the vibration
echoes to create amplified sound.
 within the closed space of their ear and they can speak

  • 17. ADVANTAGES OF FINGERTIP COMMUNICATION IMMEDIATE CALL RECEPTION: Leave the phone alone, don’t carry extra devices. With SNGL, answering calls is direct and immediate. There is no need to rummage through bags when the phone rings or carry around extra headsets or earphones. Users can simply raise their finger to their ear to answer calls.
  • 18. VOICE CLARITY:  Hear clearly, even in loud places  Even in the noisiest of surroundings, users can hear their calls clearly. With Sgnl, their finger doesn’t just transmit the voice to their ear, it also blocks out background noise.
  • 19. LISTENING PRIVACY:  Don’t worry about others listening in.  With Sgnl, users can take calls discretely. As sound is contained within the users’ ear, only the wearer of Sgnl can hear the call. Whether in a meeting room or in a packed elevator, users never need to worry about being overheard. Sgnl is particularly useful for smart watch wearers as it can prevent others from listening into conversations over their speaker phones.
  • 21. HARDWARECOMPONENTS The hardware components of Sgnl strap: Function Button Volume Up Button Microphone Body Conduction Unit (BCU) Volume Down Button Do Not Distrub Mode LED Lights
  • 22. Function Button Users are physically notified of incoming calls, and then clicking on the function button to accept the incoming calls. Volume up and volume down: Users can adjusts the volume levels through the buttons on the band. Microphone: Simply place your fingertip to your ear and speak through the embedded microphone. This microphone is helps to ensure that conversation are 2-way.
  • 23. Body Conduction Unit (BCU) •The key technology behind sgnl •The BCU allow users to hear voice and also blocking out background voice •BCU is a conduction unit capable of transmitting vibrations through the human body.it contain two techniques An Actuator An Audio Algorithm
  • 24. ACTUATOR: It generates body conducible vibration with low power consumption. Actuator unit generates vibrations as it presses against the wrist. AUDIO ALGORITHM An audio algorithm that selectively amplifies voice signals with proper wavelength modulation. Algorithm embedded within Sgnl are designed to complement the actuator unit by focusing on and amplifying the voice signals

  • 28. SoundQualitytest: • The blue graph represents the original sound signal as inputted. • The Magenta graph represents sound signals when received through the tip of the fingertip.
  • 29. In the transmission of speech the voice frequency ranges approx. around 2000 Hz. Within this range the sound signals through the fingertip don’t show much variation from the original signal. However, when this 2000Hz threshold is exceeded, the disparity between the sound signals begins to grow. This growing variance shows that it can be difficult to experience high quality sound when listening to music through the fingertip. With Sgnl, our primary focus is the transmission of the human voice, therefore we continue to diligently work towards lessening variation in that frequency range. Once frequency response in that range meets our standards, we have plans to extend Sgnl’s functionality to work across a wider range of frequencies.
  • 30. As Sgnl was developed to transmit sound through a Body Conduction Unit (BCU), the clearest sound and the most accurate way to experience fingertip communication is by hearing it through the finger. However, that would be very difficult to capture for you to hear on an audio file or video. Therefore, we have performed this demo utilizing a stethoscope sensor, which unfortunately creates imperfections in the transmission of noise while adding its own micro-noise.

  • 42. conclusion Sgnl’s key technology lies in its patented Body Conduction Unit (BCU), which is capable of transmitting vibrations through the body, which then can be converted to sound. Sgnl communicates with the user’s phone through Bluetooth. And when a voice signal is received, Sgnl will generate vibrations through its BCU.
  • 43. These vibrations will be sent through the users’ hand to their fingertip. When users place their fingertip to their ear, the vibration echoes to create amplified sound.  within the closed space of their ear and they can speak through the microphone embedded in the Sgnl strap. Make calls in privacy and make our data protected from the eavesdroppers.
