Vodafone launched a well - directed Zoo - Zoo campaign in 2009 for promoting its value -
added services (VAS), which typifies the way in which marketing communications can now
work. Vodafone had to clearly communicate its transition from basic communication services
provider to VAS in the Indian telecom industry. The egg - headed white creatures with big
ballooned bodies were promoted by Vodafone since the second season of the Indian Premier
league (IPL). The Zoo - Zoo banners were all around and word of mouth communication was
also used effectively. Vodafone 3G's Super ZooZoo was later introduced as a symbol of
Vodafone's 3G launch in India. Vodafone's 3G ZooZoo campaign is a classic example of an
IMC campaign. The response by the Indian audience was phenomenal. The ZooZoo customers
also became extremely popular with kids. The media mix for the campaign includes television,
print, outdoor, radio and online. There. rs ZooZoo community on Facebook, Which features all
the ZooZoo commercials that have been released so far, ZooZoo emoticons and a 'tag me'

8 Case Study :
Citroen's Transmission problem in 90's. Citroen launched a popular minivan, which became
the best selling product the company had ever built. Within five years Citroen held more
there 50 percent of the market share for minivans and become market leader in this segment.
In year 1999 Citroen offered a new automatic Transmission as an option in some of its top
versions of minivans. The new transmission immediately ran into trouble and many
cuslomers reported serious problems.
Claiming that it had made improvement to reduce the initial problems, the company
continued to use the transmission. Meanwhile the centre for auto safety, a consumer group
that monitors the auto industry charged that Citroen had not tested the transmission before
introducing it. The group's claim was supported by valid data saying that about 20 percent
of the owners were repofted problems with new transmission.
For 2001 model, Citroen extensively modified the design of the vehicle but continued to use
the same problematic transmission as standard equipment. As a result the new model unable
to grab the customer attention, sales fell drastically and Citr, oen lost20o/o of its market share
and the company faced with huge unsold inventory.
What are the factors of failure for Citroen's minivan?
What might Citroen have done difibrently hold its previous market share?
Suggest the company to become market leader in minivan segment again.
What kinds of techniques of TQM would have helped Citroen?

Citroen launched a popular minivan, which became the best selling product the company had ever built. Within five years Citroen held more there 50 percent of the market share for minivans and become market leader in this segment. In year 1999 Citroen offered a new automatic Transmission as an option in some of its top versions of minivans. The new transmission immediately ran into trouble and many cuslomers reported serious problems. Claiming that it had made improvement to reduce the initial problems, the company continued to use the transmission. Meanwhile the centre for auto safety, a consumer group that monitors the auto industry charged that Citroen had not tested the transmission before introducing it. The group's claim was supported by valid data saying that about 20 percent of the owners were repofted problems with new transmission. For 2001 model, Citroen extensively modified the design of the vehicle but continued to use the same problematic transmission as standard equipment. As a result the new model unable to grab the customer attention, sales fell drastically and Citr, oen lost20o/o of its market share and the company faced with huge unsold inventory. What are the factors of failure for Citroen's minivan? What might Citroen have done difibrently hold its previous market share? Suggest the company to become market leader in minivan segment again.
