The document discusses conventions of magazine front covers for pop magazines. It notes that conventions include a masthead, coverlines, a main image of a famous artist making eye contact, a color scheme, pull quotes, an established house style, a barcode, price, date and issue information, fashion bursts, and a headline title. It then explains that the example front cover shares many of these same conventions, such as the masthead, slug, pull quotes, main image, close-up images, house style colors, and inclusion of fashion and pricing information, making it a conventional pop magazine cover.

5. Why my magazine front cover is conventional.
My front cover is conventional because is has a similar layout to a top of the pops magazine and share some of
the same conventions. They both have a masthead which is big and bold and in the colour pink which connotes
girlyness which is conventional or the target audience. Right at the top of the page both have a magazine with
a slug at the top which gives more information to make the magazine more appealing to the target audience.
They also both share pull quotes on the front cover which will grab the readers attention and make them want
to read and buy the magazine. The magazines both have a main image that takes up about half the page, this
image should conventionally be an image of a well know artist or band in the pop industry. My image is
conventional because the girl is making eye contact with the camera and smiling, she has long blonde hair and
is wearing make up and fashionable clothes which is conventional for the target audience as these are the type
of people that get there attention and they want to read about. The use of pull quotes are used in both
magazine front covers along side a close up image, this is conventional because the reader will know who the
pull quote is about and the pictures will be of three well known pop artists so the target audience will want to
read more. Both of the magazine front covers set up an house style, the top of the pops front cover magazine
has set the house style of pink, yellow and white and my front cover set the house style of blue, pink and
white, all these colours are girly and conventional. Each magazine on the front cover has a little segment on
fashion this is conventional because the target audience being pre-teen are very into the way they look and
want to look like their role models. Both magazines have the convention that most other magazines have which
is a barcode and a price on how much the magazine costs.
