2. ◤
Soil erosion
▪ Soil erosion : defined as the
detachment of soil particles,their
transportation from one place to
another and deposition elsewhere
through water,wind,coastal
waves,snow,gravity &other forces.
3. ◤
Steps of soil erosion
1. Detachment of soil particles from
the main soil body.
2. Transportation by splashing
,floating ,rolling,dragging.
3. Deposition at another place.
4. ◤
Geological erosion
▪ It refers to natural or normal
erosion.
▪ Geological erosion takes place As a
result of the action of
water,wind,gravity and glaciers.
5. ◤
Accelerated soil erosion
▪ When soil erosion exceeds that
normal rate and becomes unusually
destructive and unproductive, it is
called accelerated erosion.
▪ When man or animal interferes.
6. ◤
Factor affecting soil erosion
▪ Climate : especially rainfall and wind
velocity.
▪ Topography: slope of land,nature.
▪ Physical,chemical and biological
characteristic of soil.
▪ Nature of ground cover and land use.
7. ◤
Estimation of soil and water erosions
▪ The universal soil loss equation is
presented by expression
(wischneier and smith)
8. ◤
Universal soil loss equation
▪ A= R× K×L×S×C×P. Where,
▪ A = computed soil loss per unit area
▪ R= rainfall factors.
▪ K = Soil erodibility factor.
▪ L= slope-length factor.
▪ S= slope-gradient factor.
▪ C= cropping- management factor.
▪ P= erosion- control practices factor.
