3. THE PARTHENON
• The Parthenon is the most representative monument of Greece .It is a former temple
on Athenian Acropolis in Greece dedicated to the goddess Athena .On the Acropolis
the most important buildings visible are the Parthenon Propylaea and the temple of
Vicrory. Parthenon is the most surviving buildings of the classical Greece ,It was
designed by Iktinos and Kalikrates and sculpted by Fidias .The constructions started
in 447 BC and it was completed in 432 BC. On 26 September 1687 the Propylea
WERE partly damaged by Venetians .The Parthenon is regarded a an enduring
symbol of Ancient Greece Athenian democracy and western civilization and one of the
worlds greatest natural monuments.
5. CHRIST THE REDEEMER
• One of the most famous landmarks of the world is the statue of Christ the Redeemer.
Christ the Redeemer is an Art Deco statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, created
by French sculptor Paul Landowski and built by the Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva
Costa, in collaboration with the French engineer Albert Caquot. The statue is 30 metres (98
ft) tall, not including its 8-metre (26 feet) pedestal, and its arms stretch 28 metres (92 ft)
wide. The statue weighs 635 metric tons (625 long, 700 short tons), and is located at the
peak of the 700-metre (2,300 ft) Corcovado mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park
overlooking the city of Rio. A symbol of Christianity across the world, the statue has also
become a cultural icon of both Rio de Janeiro and Brazil, and is listed as one of the New
Seven Wonders of the World. Construction took nine years, from 1922 to 1931 and cost the
equivalent of US$250,000. The monument was opened on October 12, 1931. In October
2006, on the 75th anniversary of the statue's completion named after Brazil's patron
saint—Our Lady of the Apparition, under the statue. This allows Catholics to hold baptisms
and weddings there. I think this statue is one of the greatest landmarks in the world and I
wish I will visit it one day.
7. HAGIA SOPHIA
• Hagia Sophia (from the Greek: Aγία Σοφία, "Holy Wisdom"; Latin: Sancta Sophia or
Sancta Sapientia; Turkish: Ayasofya) is a former Christian patriarchal basilica
(church), later an imperial mosque, and now a museum (Ayasofya Müzesi) in
Istanbul.The church was dedicated to the Wisdom of God, the Logos, the second
person of the Holy Trinity, its patronal feast taking place on 25 December, the
commemoration of the birth of the incarnation of the Logos in Christ.Famous in
particular for its massive dome, it is considered the epitome of Byzantine architecture
and is said to have "changed the history of architecture" It was designed by the Greek
geometers Isidore of Miletus and Anthemius of Tralles.
9. THE SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE
• The Sydney Opera House is located in Sydney,in South New Wales, Australia.It is situated on Bennelong
Point in Sydney Harbour, close to the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It is one of the most famous buildings in
the 21st century and it is one of the most distinctive venues where concerts, ballet performances and
other events taking place. It's a modern building which was designed by Danish architect Jorn Utzon.
• The construction began in 1959 and it was finished in 1973 and cost $102 million. The building was
formally opened on 20 October 1973 by Queen Elizabeth II.
It is supported on 588 concrete piers sunk below sea level. Its roof is spectacular. It looks like a boat at
full sail. Its interior contains a Concert Hall, a drama theatre, a playhouse ect. It is a famous landmark in
Australia and it is an amazing visitor attraction. You would probably have seen it in films such as
''Mission Impossible II'' , ''Finding Nemo'' and many more.
11. THE LOUVRE
• The Louvre or the Louvre Museum it is one of the best meseums in the world and a historic monument
in Paris, France. The museum opened on 10 August 1793 with an exhibition of 537 paintings. It is one
od the best museum on the world. The Louvre Palace, which houses the museum, was begun as a
fortress by Philip II in the 12th century. During the French Revolution the Louvre was transformed into a
public museum. In May 1791, the Assembly declared that the Louvre would be "a place for bringing
together monuments of all the sciences and arts.
13. THE DRESDEN FRAUENKIRCHE
• The Dresden Frauenkirche is a Lutheran church in Dresden, the capital of the German state of Saxony.
An earlier church building was Roman Catholic until it became Protestant during the Reformation, and
was replaced in the 18th century by a larger Baroque Lutheran building. It is considered an outstanding
example of Protestant sacred architecture, featuring one of the largest domes in Europe. Built in the
18th century, the church was destroyed in the bombing of Dresden during World War II. The remaining
ruins were left for 50 years as a war memorial, following decisions of local East German leaders. The
church was rebuilt after the reunification of Germany, starting in 1994.The Frauenkirche is often called a
cathedral, however it is not the seat of a bishop. The bishop's church is the Church of the Cross.
15. THE PYRAMIDS OF GIZA
• The pyramids of Giza are the most famous and oldest surviving buildings of humanity and are the most
famous pyramids in the world. Located in Egypt, in the Giza Necropolis their construction dates back to
2580 BC. The complex was probably used for the burial of Pharaoh and built by the fourth dynasty of
Egypt.
The first known Egyptian pyramids were found at the Sahara Desert, northwest of Memphis. The first of
these is the Pyramid of Djoser (constructed 2630 BC-2611 BC), which was built during the third dynasty.
This pyramid and its surrounding complex were designed by the architect Imhotep, and are generally
considered to be the oldest monumental structures in the world constructed of dressed masonry.
The most famous Egyptian pyramids are those found at Giza, on the outskirts of Cairo. Several of the
Giza pyramids are among the largest structures ever built. The Pyramid of Khufu at Giza is the largest
Egyptian pyramid. It is the only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World still exists.
17. THE EIFFEL TOWER
•
The Eiffel Tower is located in the capital of France, Paris! It was constructed by Gustavο Eiffel. It is 352
metres tall and was the tallest building in the world until 1931.It weighs 7,300 tons. It has 3 levels
where you go up either by stairs or elevator. To climb to the first level you have to make 300 steps and
so the second and third climb only with elevator.
Built for the Anniversary of the French Revolution,300 laborers worked there. Decorated by Stephen
Sauvestre. Inaugurated on March 31, 1889 and opened to the public on 9 May of the same year. Also its
lights turned off critical situations or mourning. Every day more than 1,000 people visit the Eiffel Tower.
18. THE TAJ MAHAL
• The Taj Mahal more often from Persian and Arabic, "crown of palaces", is a white marble mausoleum
located on the southern bank of the Yamuna River in the Indian city of Agra. It was commissioned in
1632 by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan to house the tomb of his favorite wife of three, Mumtaz
Mahal. The Taj Mahal complex is believed to have been completed in its entirety in 1653 at a cost
estimated at the time to be around 32 million Indian rupees, which in 2015 would be valued at around
52.8 billion Indian rupees. The Taj Mahal is regarded by many as the best example of Mughal
architecture and is widely recognized as "the jewel of Muslim art in India". It is one of the world’s most
celebrated structures and a symbol of India’s rich history.
