What do and visit in Benissanet:
1. Refuge of la Font Gran: This well-preserved bomb shelter was built by the women of the municipality

16. History of Benissanet
Benissanet toponym is Arab. It seems to be that the origin of the
village is going to be a Muslim farmhouse.
During the Civil War of 1936-1939, the population was severely
punished. There were a lot of victims, demolitions of buildings The
most noteworthy is the church.
18. History of refuge
After the beginning of the Battle of l'Ebre, on July 25, 1938, as a result of the constant bombardments of the enemy
aviation, the municipal authorities and republican military officers decided to take various anti-aircraft shelters.
In the house of the refuge of the Font Gran it is going to build thanks to the help of the republican soldiers and
the young girls of the municipality, a twenty-four between 14 and 16 years, that work every day during the
months of August , September and October of 1938, until they completed it.
Currently the refuge has been rehabilitated as a democratic memorial to recover the historical memory of the
different areas of the Battle of l'Ebre and can be visited by prior concerted visit to the City Council.

23. Things to do in Garcia
- Street parade: A great trachea and final thunder gives the exit of the correfoc. Devils and spectators from all over the
Catalan Countries can run and enjoy under real fire rains. The party ends with a large soaking and live music until sunrise.

-The hermitage: The Hermitage of Santa Magdalena is a religious building built on an immense rock in the shape of a den

ribera ebre is crossed from north to south by this great river.
-The old church: It dates from the 16th century and is located at the top of the village, crowning the top of the hill, next to
the Ebro River. This former church was destroyed during the Civil War and partly rebuilt recently. It consists of a single
nave, with strong pilasters, Roman arching and Gothic cruise on the ceiling.
26. History of Garcia
Thanks to its good geographical location, Garcia was one of the first Iberos villages, then became a Roman villa.
Occupied by the Saracens, it was conquered by Ramón Berenguer IV, who gave it the name "Marquesado de
Siurana".
King James II cedes this territory, along with others to his son. And they are under the domination of the "comtat
de Prades". Prades County later passed to the Ducal House of Cardona, which remained as the lady of those lands.
In 1565, the Dukes of Cardona re-edified the village above the mountain so that they could defend themselves
better. Currently the village is located there.
During the Spanish War of Independence, in 1810, the town was occupied by General Suchet's troops.
The Spanish Civil War of 1936-39 affected the municipality a lot. Because of the proximity to the battlefield, she
was bombed destroying the entire upper part of the village.
28. History of old church
The primitive Old Church dates from the 16th century
and is located at the top of the village, crowning the top
of the hill, right next to the river Ebro. This old church
was destroyed during the Civil War and partly rebuilt
recently. It consists of a single nave, with strong pilasters,
Roman arches and a Gothic transept on the roof. It has no
dome. It consists of eight altars including the high altar
and an altarpiece commonly called "altar of souls", which
had been of the Carthusian monastery of L'Escaladei,
consisting of ten paintings of oil paintings on wood,
divided into two bodies, surely of the famous painter
Ribalta, that represented several images between which
they emphasize eccehomo, santa Magdalena, san Roc and
the Announcement of the Kings and the Resurrection.
30. Traditions and typical dishes:
In this village the famous dance is “Jota” and the typical dish is “La Clotxa”
La Jota ,is a popular regional folk dance,traditionally danced to adorn and
celebrate local events or festivals.
La Clotxa is a typical dish,it involves emptying a peasant bread of crumb and filling it
with herrings, sardines, garlic, onion and roasted tomatoes. Then the crumb is put
back into the bread, oil and salt are added and it is ready to eat.

boat.We celebrate boat races on the river every summer.
33. “Correfoc”
The Correfoc de Garcia stands out , a show awarded
as the best cultural event in Terres de l'Ebre in 2003.
The festival begins with cultural shows and traditional
music. A large firecracker and final thunder gives the
exit of the correfoc. Devils and spectators from all
over the Catalan Countries can run and enjoy under
real rains of fire. The party ends with a great soak and
live music until sunrise. Before the start of the
correfoc, the correfoc of the children's groups takes
place.
