3. WHAT IS LEARNING
The process of acquiring the ability to respond
adequately to a situation which may or may not
have been previously encountered.
It is relatively permanent change in behavior as a
result of prior experiences.
It is a continuous process and it occurs all the time
Learning is a part of life which takes place at all
times and in all places. It is a continuous life long
process going on from birth to the end of our life.

4. Aim , objectives and functions of learning
The aim of learning is achieving human perfection. It
involves the total training of character and aims at
producing a morally mature individual
The object of learning is to turn the eyes ,which the
soul already possesses, to the light.
The function of learning is not to put knowledge into
the soul, but to bring out the best things that are
latent in the soul , and to do so by directing it to the
right objects

5. Lifelong learning
Lifelong learning is the continuous building of skills and knowledge
throughout the life of an individual. It occurs through experiences
encountered in the course of a lifetime.
Lifelong learning is the "ongoing, voluntary, and self-motivated" pursuit of
knowledge for either personal or professional reasons.
Innovative delivery formats help to ensure that the learning activities are
accessible to anyone that is interested in participating.
Lifelong learning may be broadly defined as learning that is pursued
throughout life: learning that is flexible, diverse and available at different
times and in different places.

7. Formal Education
Formal education is that which occurs in a more structured
educational setting. Representative of this element would be
school, colleges and universities.
It takes place in traditional classroom settings

8. Non-Formal
Any organized educational activity outside the established formal system
(school and University system, particularly for adults and out of school
youth.
It means the educational programs in which individuals are educated
through distance learning methods and means of communication.
Education which happens outside of the context of a formally structured
educational institution.

9. In-Formal
It refers to a process of change in behavior which happens outside of the
environment of formal and non-formal educational programs.
It is primarily concerned with the society rather than formal or informal
educational settings.
It is based on social environment, values and belief
No regular curriculum. Understanding of life is the curriculum

Duration is connected with life duration
There is no concept of examination

10. DIFFERENT STAGES OF LEARNING
Age 0-5 year
Engage
Introduce the topic of study by creating interest and generating curiosity in the
learner.
Set the stage for learning.
In this age group, a lot of learning takes place, providing a foundation for
future learning habits and resourcefulness.
This is probably the age group where the greatest amount of information
learning occurs, as children imitate almost everything from parents, peers and
their environment.
Each child is unique and it is imperative that parents learn to understand,
respect, support and encourage the unique characteristics and abilities of each
child.

6-24 age group
Explore
It takes place in educational institutions, from primary and secondary to
tertiary levels.
Students explore materials freely, leading to questioning, hypothesizing,
forming tentative ideas.
Learner look for patterns through their own involvement with provided
materials.
Learner to apply previous knowledge & experiences, feed their interest and
stimulate curiosity.
Family life, social organizations, religious institutions, and mass media can also
play a role learning in this period

25-60 AGE GROUP
Explanation
learner are guided to understand concepts and principles that help
them answer questions and address preconceptions - encourage
learner to explain concepts in their own words.
In this age groups can learner informally during their working lives
through the use of instructional media, mostly from their occupations,
work-places, colleagues, touring, and mass media, information
technologies, environment and nature.

60+ AGE GROUP
In their senior years people may seek new knowledge for their
own sake. The challenge of seeking new knowledge and
teaching themselves may result in a sense of pride of
accomplishment and help maintain self- esteem.
Try out their newly learned ideas by transferring what they
have learned to new situations.
