PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION AND TRENDS OR ISSUE IN EDUCATION
INTRODCTION
The word profession is derived from ‘ Profess” which means ‘To proclaimSomething publicly’.
According to Oxford dictionary- “Profession is a paid Occupation, especially one thatInvolves prolonged
training and a formal qualificationIt can also be defined as an occupation which helps a person to build his/her
skills andDevelop his/her expertise in a field which interests him/her.
Profession is defined as “a vocation requiring Advanced training and usually involving mental rather than
manual work, as teaching, engineering, etc. especiallyMedicine, law, or theology were formally called
learnedProfession.Occupation’s often used interchangeably with profession. But there are some differences, in
terms of preparationAnd commitment. Professional preparation usually takesPlace in the college or university
setting.
Any man or woman, who has prepared for exacting service by thorough and disciplined scholarship and who
lives and works in the spirit of training, professional standard, may well be recognized as a member of a
profession. Professional education is the process by which men and women prepare for exacting responsible
service in the professional spirit. The term may be restricted to preparation for fields requiring well informed
and disciplined insight and skill of a high order. Less exacting preparation may be designated as vocational or
technical education.
The Responsibilities of Professional Education .The professional man has the responsibility to contribute
towards the welfare of the society in which he lives. He must devote their moral energies and intellectual
powers to solve current and long range problems. The professional education should bring intelligence and
patriotism thus helps to promote peace and order in the society. A professional man should have purpose and
philosophy for his work and life. If a person lacks in such purpose and philosophy, the total effect may be great
internal stress and even social deterioration.
DEFINITION
Professional education includes any programs that improve the knowledge skills,Attitudes,Or behaviours of
health care providers.
Professional education is a formal specialized training about aParticular profession in which learners are taught
the central Concepts, principles, and techniques, and how these are applied inReal practice, and the learners also
acquire the necessaryCompetencies needed for proper practice and behaviour.
FUNDAMENTAL OF PROFESSIONALEDUCATION
Fundamentals of Professional Education The foundation of professional education should be not only technical
skill, but also a sense of social responsibility, an appreciation of social and human values and relationships, and
disciplined power to see realities without prejudice or blind commitment.
There is a fundamental unity to all scholarly and professional thought. For students to come to recognize this
unity it is necessary to have teachers with the breadth of mind and outlook to work out and to use in their
courses common expressions of the common fundamentals of effective thinking and learning. The various
professional schools in a university might well work together at developing these fundamentals.
Professional development plays an essential role in successful education reform. Professional development
serves as the bridge between where prospective and experienced educators are now and where they will need to
meet the new challenges of guiding all students in achieving to higher standards of learning and development.
One of the primary needs is that the professional man shall see the whole problem with which he deals, not
merely its technical phases. All technical education should transmit technical understanding, skill and method,
not as an isolated discipline, but in its total human and social setting. Failure to do that is largely responsible for
failure of modern civilization to produce social peace and harmony.
Among schools, higher education institutions and other appropriate entities to promote inclusive learning
communities of everyone who impacts students and their learning. Those within and outside schools need to
work together to bring to bear the ideas, commitment and other resources that will be necessary to address
important and complex educational issues in a variety of settings and for a diverse student body.
Professional Development
 Focuses on teachers as central to student learning, yet includes all other members of the school
community;
 Focuses on individual, collegial, and organizational improvement;
 Respects and nurtures the intellectual and leadership capacity of teachers, principals, and others in the
school community;
 Reflects best available research and practice in teaching, learning, and leadership.
 Enables teachers to develop further expertise in subject content, teaching strategies, uses of
technologies, and other essential elements in teaching to high standards
 Promotes continuous inquiry and improvement embedded in the daily life of schools;
 Is planned collaboratively by those who will participate in and facilitate that development.
Trends in Development of nursing education in India
In 1664, the East India Company helped to start a hospital for soldiers at Fort ST George, Madras (now the
Tamil Nadu Secretariat was functioning).
In 1797 a lying in hospital was built and in 1854 a training school for midwives was started. In 1871 in the
Government General Hospital, Madras, a training course for nurses were started.
. The JamesedjeeJeejeebhoy group has opened the earliest hospital in Mumbai in the year 1843. In 1886 another
hospital called PestanjiHormusjiCama Hospital for women and children opened. During this period. People did
not come forward to do nursing.
In 1909, the Bombay Presidency Nursing Association was started. During 1907-1910 the North India United
Board of Examiners for Mission Hospitals was organized
The first degree program in nursing was started in the are 1946 in Tamil Nadu, India in the Christian Medical

Trends in education
_Online Learning: To begin with, kicking off the popular trends in education list today is onlineLearning. Due
to Covid-19 effects, over 1.2 billion children are out of school, globally. The lockdownStatus occurred and
extended in nearly almost the entire map. During the tough time, it is not possible forTeachers and learners to
attend face-to-face classes. Many traditional classes transform into online classesAnd online learning seems to
be the most productive way to remain and ensure educational quality.
Distance Learning: Among many global educational trends, distance learning cannot be missed out. At first
glance, some people may think that distance learning is similar to online learning. However, these Modern
trends are not exactly the same. Each trend has its own specialist. With remote learning, learners canGet a
course in the absence of in-person interactions. This proves that education can be carried on fromDistances, no
matter where we are.
Blended Learning: Since the growth of technology, blended learning is never out of the popular Educational
trends list. With this method, you can make use of both face-to-face and eLearning training Methods. Thanks to
that, learners become the centre of learning. Meanwhile, teachers play the role ofMentors to orient learners.
This modern trend not only boosts learners ‘ learning experiences but also wakesTheir learning motivation up.
Home-schooling_: It is also known as home education or elective home education (EHE), it is The education of
school-aged children at home or a variety of places other than a school. Usually conducted By a parent, tutor, or
an online teacher, many home-school families use less formal, more personalized and Individualized methods of
learning that are not always found in schools. It tends to become one of the Popular trends in recent years
Flipped classroom: A growing number of schools are embracing the notion of flipped learning. It’s An
instructional approach that reverses the traditional model of the teacher giving a lecture in front of the Class,
then sending students home to work through assignments that enhance their understanding of the Concepts. In
flipped learning, students watch lecture videos or read relevant course content on their own Before class. Class
time is devoted to expanding on the material through group discussions and collaborative Learning projects
(i.e.., doing what was traditionally meant as homework). The instructor is there to guide Students when
questions or problems arise. Provided that all students have access to the appropriate technology and are
motivated to prepare for each Class session, flipped learning can bring a wide range of benefits. For example, it
allows students to control Their own learning by watching lecture videos at their own pace; they can pause, jot
down questions, or re-Watch parts they find confusing. The model also encourages students to learn from each
other and explore Subjects more deeply.
Teacher's role: The shift In emphasis from the teacher to the pupil in the process of education and The
carrying out of instructional activities with the realization of specific and clear-cut learning outcomes
hasInevitably led to a reassessment of teacher’s roll in the classroom. The model of teacher as the pivotal
andDominant figure in education presenting a variety of information to pupils has practically
disappeared.Modern education transformed the teacher’s role from a dictator to a friend of students. Teacher of
today is Considered as a facilitator of learning, whose main duty is to prepare students for learning by enabling
themTo actively participate in the teaching-learning process rather than simply spoon-feeding. The less the
pupils Rely upon the teacher, the better. A successful teacher must enable his pupils to do without him.
Activities cantered: Modern education is activity-cantered. We are currently giving more emphasis
toEarning by doing. Curriculum of today is organized in terms of the tasks to be performed and goals to
be‘reached rather than in terms of lessons to be learned. This will provide knowledge and skills essential
forLeading a good life. Teachers have to motivate the children to do experiments, search out facts
forThemselves and undertake projects.
Creative education: One of the most significant trends in today’s school is the encouragement
of Creativity. Human advances come through original thought and intervention. Creative
education is a good Medium to develop original thought and intervention.
More focus on life skills: Education now give more importance to life skills recommended by World
Health Organisation (WHO). Life skills are abilities for adaptive and positive behaviour that enable Humans to
deal effectively with the demands and challenges of life. Life skills recommended by who Includes skills such
as decision making, problem solving, creative thinking, critical thinking, effective Communication, self-
awareness, assertiveness, empathy, equanimity, interpersonal relationship, stress Management and resilience.
Promotion of value education: Value education is the process of enabling children to developValues
essential for leading a successful life by way of educative process. Now education is giving moreImportance to
value education for grooming youngsters as good citizens and human beings.
More flexible options Now, students can choose a program suitable to their aptitude and interest. This will
help student to find alternative career paths than traditional ones.
Outcome-based education: With the implementation of standards and new practices, education isMore
outcome-based oriented than before. Outcome-based education or outcomes-based education (OBE)An
educational theory that bases each part of an educational system around goals (outcomes). By the end ofThe
educational experience, each student should have achieved the goal. There is no single specified style
ofTeaching or assessment in OBE; instead, classes, opportunities, and assessments should all help
studentsAchieve the specified outcomes. The role of the faculty adapts into instructor, trainer, facilitator,
and/orMentor based on the outcomes targeted.
More community_ participation: Considering the reciprocate relationship between education andSociety,
this is an expected trend. Education is seeking more community participation for solving itsProblems. The
presence of parent-teacher association in all most every educational institute is a goodExample for the
community participation. Parents’ participation can also be elicited through socializedProjects and programs.
The result 1s that parents and the teachers meet in small and large groups to discussTheir common problems.
Funding of various projects in the technical institutes by the industrial sector is alsoAn example of this trend.
ISSUES IN EDUCATION
Mainstreaming: Mainstreaming is the practice of placing physically, emotionally, or
mentallyChallenged students in a regular classroom instead of a special education classroom.
Educators continue toDebate the merits and problems of mainstreaming. In general, the practice
seems to work best for studentsWho can still keep pace with their peers in the classroom, and less well for
students with more severeChallenges. Experts note that exceptions do occur on both accounts and recommend
careful consideration on case-by-case based.
Public-versus-private education: Most of the public-versus-private discussion centres on
publicEducation. One cannot ignore the effect of private education and home schooling on education,
however,Many parents who are dissatisfied with the quality of public education, who want specific personal
orReligious values integrated into the curriculum, turn to private and parochial schools. Studies have found
thatPrivate schools maintain higher expectations and that students in these schools generally outperform
theirPublic school peers.
Quality _of education in rural and urban area – There is a major difference in the quality of Education
being provided in the rural and urban areas of the country. Steps must be taken to standardize the Quality of
education across India so that everyone can get equal and unbiased knowledge and opportunities To grow.
Lack of money: The absence of sufficient assets is a fundamental issue in the improvement of Education.
Because of poor economics most instructive institutions need the framework, science gear and Libraries, and so
on. Because of this, the desired outcomes cannot be achieved Very year there is a separate budget for the
Education sector but it needs to be well directed through The appropriate pipeline so that it reaches every sector,
where it is needed the most.
No practical _knowledge: In educational institutions, lots of attention is provided to theory and Books, and
practical knowledge is completely neglected. When these students pass the exam, they forget all The things they
have studied due to a lack of practical experience U India, parents and teachers expect their Students to score
high in the exam rather than getting quality knowledge. And education becomes a rat race. Practical knowledge
and skill-based education are still very far away from scholars who are studying in Schools, colleges, and
universities.
Theproblem ofbraindrain: Whenever smart, capable, and meriting candidates don't getReasonable positions in
the nation. They need to travel to another country to look for employment. So ourNation is denied good ability.
This wonder is called ‘Brain Drain’. Because of that, we lost so many talentsHat could be utilized in our nation
for the betterment of education as well as the overall development of theCountry.
Corruption and leakages of funds: Most of the funds which are granted for the advancement ofSchools
are mostly consumed by corrupt mediators. As these funds transferred from central government toState
government to schools involve many intermediaries. Due to which a right beneficiary only gets aCertain part of
the fund.
SUMMARY

It tends to become one of the Popular trends in recent years Flipped classroom: A growing number of schools are embracing the notion of flipped learning. It’s An instructional approach that reverses the traditional model of the teacher giving a lecture in front of the Class, then sending students home to work through assignments that enhance their understanding of the Concepts. In flipped learning, students watch lecture videos or read relevant course content on their own Before class. Class time is devoted to expanding on the material through group discussions and collaborative Learning projects (i.e.., doing what was traditionally meant as homework). The instructor is there to guide Students when questions or problems arise. Provided that all students have access to the appropriate technology and are motivated to prepare for each Class session, flipped learning can bring a wide range of benefits. For example, it allows students to control Their own learning by watching lecture videos at their own pace; they can pause, jot down questions, or re-Watch parts they find confusing. The model also encourages students to learn from each other and explore Subjects more deeply. Teacher's role: The shift In emphasis from the teacher to the pupil in the process of education and The carrying out of instructional activities with the realization of specific and clear-cut learning outcomes hasInevitably led to a reassessment of teacher’s roll in the classroom. Teacher of today is Considered as a facilitator of learning, whose main duty is to prepare students for learning by enabling themTo actively participate in the teaching-learning process rather than simply spoon-feeding. The less the pupils Rely upon the teacher, the better. A successful teacher must enable his pupils to do without him. Activities cantered: Modern education is activity-cantered. We are currently giving more emphasis toEarning by doing. Curriculum of today is organized in terms of the tasks to be performed and goals to be‘reached rather than in terms of lessons to be learned. This will provide knowledge and skills essential forLeading a good life. Teachers have to motivate the children to do experiments, search out facts forThemselves and undertake projects.

Funding of various projects in the technical institutes by the industrial sector is alsoAn example of this trend. ISSUES IN EDUCATION Mainstreaming: Mainstreaming is the practice of placing physically, emotionally, or mentallyChallenged students in a regular classroom instead of a special education classroom. Educators continue toDebate the merits and problems of mainstreaming. In general, the practice seems to work best for studentsWho can still keep pace with their peers in the classroom, and less well for students with more severeChallenges. Experts note that exceptions do occur on both accounts and recommend careful consideration on case-by-case based. Public-versus-private education: Most of the public-versus-private discussion centres on publicEducation.
