1. Letter of Teaching Qualifications
At Judson University, I am an adjunct professor in the School of Business & Leadership
in the Center of Adult Professional Studies. I have taught the following courses in their Human
Resource Management adult undergraduate program: Workforce Diversity, Human Resource
Management, Employee & Labor Relations, Senior Human Resource Management Seminar, and
Human Resource Management Internship & Practicum. In September of 2009, I earned my
Certified Adjunct Faculty Educator credential from the Society of Certified Adjunct Faculty
Educators. I am a certified Professional in Human Resource Management through the HRCI of
the Society of Human Resource Management. I have my Master in Business Administration with
a concentration in Human Resource Management from Keller Graduate School of Management
of DeVry University. I have two Bachelor of Science degrees one in Management with a focus in
Human Resource Management and the other in Family Social Services with a minor in
Psychology from Northern Illinois University. In addition, I have experience in using Blackboard
via Judson University and Breeze via Missouri College Online.
Having the opportunity to teach people of all ages at Judson University, I have found it
particularly beneficial for student learning to develop a style of teaching in which understanding
occurs. I believe that three primary methods of teaching can effectively help students achieve
understanding. First is the Socratic style of teaching. Students generally seem more responsive
and participative to direct classroom interaction than to simply receive passive lectures. The
challenge of course is to encourage active participation by all students whether or not they are
socially comfortable. However, when student participation occurs understanding definitely
follows. Second is the standard Pedagogical style of teaching. Some traditional students in entry-
level courses tend to prefer this method. However, the key to keeping traditional students
interested is to present the information and then provide them with real world applications. Third
is the Andragogical style of teaching. This method is particularly successful for the self-
motivated adult student. This works particularly well in certain distance learning venues when
understanding occurs and is demonstrated. To summarize, I tend to utilize a combination of all
three teaching styles emphasizing the one that creates the best atmosphere for student
understanding.
