2. Does your magazine use conventions
from other professional magazines that
might help attract an audience? Or does
your magazine have a USP?
My magazine does use a lot of conventions
such as a masthead, a image, sell lines etc. This
is because I w anted to make a typical music
magazine to help attract the audiences. I also
used a correct font size, captions for my
audience to understand what my magazine is
about and what reggae means to people in
society. I wanted the audience to know that
straight away this is a reggae magazine and
for it to appeal to my target audience.
Unfortunately, my magazine does not have a
unique sell point except for competitions
associated with my magazine as it is issued
every month.
3. Did you choose language techniques, layout
design, fonts, colours, locations, props, costumes
and models and in order to communicate
particular ideas to your audience?
For my magazine I used specific colours such as yellow, green,
and blue. Yellow and green are associated with the reggae
culture. Also I wanted a vibrant look to my magazine to get
the feeling of summer vibes. With my fonts I made sure I had a
βreggaeβ vibes to them. As I wanted the fonts to look old
school but have that Jamaican vibe to it. I made sure my
locations were a reflection of the Caribbean scenery . For
example for my DPS image was shot in a different country
(Gambia) with natural lighting form the sun. This made sure i
had a Caribbean aspect to it. The layout design was inspired
from other magazines such as NME, Vibes etc. My models had
a mixture of different colours associated with their costume. As
i wanted that aspect of diversity and different colours
representing peace and unity from the Rastafarian culture. For
example my front cover model is wearing a flowery top with
colour such as pink, purple, blue and violet. Also these are
colours that connect with the female gender . Which my
magazine represents females in the reggae industry.

front cover- Well the front cover
shows the genre straight away as it
is reggae , through the colours used
green yellow blue and the flag on
the top right corner, the use of
tropical colours helps form the
genre. The image is well shot and
the low angle gives the appearance
of the model looking down at the
reader making her look superior
and one to be idolised as she is a
music artist. The alliteration
'JusticeJosee' is very catchy which
the reader will remember. Very
unique fonts used , and limited
imagery making it very simple and
straight to the point
