Features Needed to Make a Comedy Film
For hundreds of years Hollywood has been making countless of different genre movies. One main
genre that is very popular is comedy; these films have been entertaining audiences for decades with
over–the–top scenes, characters and funny moments. This essay will focus on what features are
needed to make a comedy movie by concentrating on the pro–filmic codes, filmic or technical
codes, character types and networks, social themes and narrative patterns and stock scenes that go
into creating these films.
Comedy is a genre of film that uses humour as a driving force. Even though the comedy business
may take on some serious material they most likely end with a happy ending. Comedy films have
the tendency to become a mixed sub–genre because humour can be incorporated into many other
genres. The different types of sub–genres are slapstick, romantic comedy, screwball comedy, teen
comedy, family comedy and black comedy.
Slapstick is the recourse to humour involving exaggerated physical activity which exceeds the
boundaries of common sense. Slapstick comedy is a primarily physical kind of comedy based
around pratfalls and mild comic violence. For example, smacks in the head, pokes in the eyes,
people falling down, etc. It is probably most widely recognized in the comedy of The Three
Stooges, The Pink Panther and for a more contemporary example MTV's Jackass.
Romantic comedy films are light, humorous, and playful. The central plot is on romantic ideals such
as that true love and is

Rectification Of Cameras Captured Documents Images For...
Rectification of camera captured document images for Camera–based OCR technology Abstract
Due to the rapid progress in digital cameras industry, camera captured documents becomes as
another possibility or choice for document capturing and understanding for OCR applications.
However, image quality degradations arising from the image acquisition process have severe effect
on these applications. The distortion results from digital camera may take the shape of skew,
perspective distortion or geometric distortion. We propose fully automatic preprocessing techniques
to enhance the digital camera captured images to improve the performance of OCR applications.
Our algorithms depend on the features of the text lines and letters and do not need any especial
equipment. Experimental results on a real camera captured images demonstrate 10~15 %
enhancement in current commercial OCR packages. 1. Introduction Textual content in books,
newspapers and articles have been traditionally digitized using scanners and read with the help of
optical character recognition (OCR). Recent technical advances in digital cameras have led the OCR
community to consider using them instead of scanners for document capture. Compared with the
scanner, the digital camera is quite easier to use, being able to capture images from any viewpoint.
Cameras can be easily integrated with portable computing devices such as PDAs, cell phones, or
media players. Together, these factors contribute to the growing interest

The Suspense In The Sixth Sense Essay
The Suspense In The Sixth Sense
The Sixth Sense is a psychological thriller. It follows a very simple set of conventions that are
associated with all psychological thrillers. The hero or anti–hero is always present in psychological
thrillers and is there for the audience to relate to. Vulnerable characters are often depicted as small
children. Children are seen as innocent and un–knowing, it is easy for the audience to be aware of
what the children are going through as they were all one once. Suspense is always built up with
dramatic and scary music. Using this convention allows the audience time to realise that something
is going to happen. When the audience views a psychological thriller they ... Show more content on

This convention is particularly important when trying to show suspense. Filmmakers are always
very happy to accept psychological thrillers because they are usually always popular e.g. The Thing,
Scream Trilogy, Alien and Vertical Limit.
The Sixth Sense is a psychological thriller about a young boy who can see ghosts and the doctor
who is helping him. As the movie progresses it is able to show why the doctor is helping the boy
and why the child can see the ghosts. The Sixth Sense was a huge success for a director who had not
been marked as one of particular importance. M. Night Shyamalan had previously only directed
short films, but had started to come into the mainstream with his second feature length film Wide
Awake. The Sixth Sense had a huge box office success all over the world and after being nominated
for 6 Academy Awards, it won two – Best Supporting Actor (Haley Joel Osment) and Best
Screenplay.

Walt Disney was a small town boy with a dream, just like any other American. However, what
separates Disney from the rest is his creativity, courage, vision, and result–oriented mindset. First,
Disney focused closely on his creativity. Disney was always known for his creative characters and
stories, but how did this help him be a catalyst for change? He continued to create. Disney's
imagination never stopped and this allowed his company to prosper. Disney made made many Alice

Snow White and the Seven Dwarves was Disney's first big risk in the animation business that he
used to further change the art of animation. He pushed his company and employees to work to their

come to life. However, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves was considered "Disney's Folly"
because no one believed it would be able to hold the attention of audiences. However, even when
Disney's company was expected to fail, he did not give up. He was so worried he would not be able
to finish Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, but instead of throwing away his work and company,
Disney continued to fight for the finishing of this production. Because of his perseverance and
courage to take such a huge leap into animated movie production, Snow White and the Seven

Descriptive Essay About Makeup
Women have been wearing makeup for years. Throughout the years, I transform myself into
celebrities I look up too. To transform into a character, I need the proper makeup tools to help me
look like Angelina Jolie. The tools I need are makeup brushes: contour brush, eyeshadow brush,
angled eyeliner brush. Transforming my face into a well–known celebrity challenges my skills. To
transform my face, I see my characteristics are similar to Angelina Jolie. I identify my face to see if
the transformation is possible. I need defined cheeks because Angelina Jolie's cheek bones is her
most prominent feature. The cheeks must be high and well defined. Defining the cheeks, I choose a
medium brown shade of eyeshadow or bronzer. The forehead is the second most important feature
to create. Angelina Jolie has a long, narrow forehead, as mine is wide. Having the medium brown
shadow on my temples it creates shadows. I create the illusion of a long forehead. After identifying
my features, I am ready to start my transformation. The alterations for my face will take time to
prefect. It will take an hour or longer to do. I might have to attempt the look a few times until I get it
right. When I perfect the look, I am ready to start. Next, I clean my face to have a clean canvas.
Then moisturize my face so the makeup does not look cakey. Now time to collect my makeup
supplies. The conversion of my face is ready to perceive.
The figuration is ready to start. I have the right makeup choices to

Symbols in the Fairy Tales and Folk Tales
Certain psychologist have hypothesized that fairytales represent the most primitive way the mind
operates, and within certain folktales, the true message is possible hidden beneath symbols. One
folktale in particular, Little Red Riding Hood, is full of symbols with possible deeper meanings. For
example some people have speculated that the red hood that Little Red Riding Hood wears is a
symbol of the girls sexuality and the "little" in her nickname places an emphasis on her budding
nature. That is to say the young girl is in the beginning stages of becoming a woman and doesn't
possess much knowledge on the subject of sex. Keeping with this same theme, it can further be
hypothesized that the wolf represents the foreign idea of sex, which the young girl finds both
unsettling and alluring. By telling the wolf the directions to her grandmother's house, Little Red
Riding Hood is evading having to confront the uncomfortable feeling created by the wolf's presence.
Instead of dealing with him, Little Red Riding Hood redirects him to her grandmother who is
already a woman and is therefore more mature and capable of dealing with the wolf and what he
represents (Bettelheim 1). Additionally, the winding path with the flowers that Little Red Riding
Hood picks represents temptation and the contrasting direct path to Grandmother's house represents
virtue. Finally, the act of the wolf eating the little girl is a symbol for the loss of her innocence due
to the fact that the only reason the

First, the critical thinking courses in both history of cinema and tradition on film–making has been
attached a great importance in SFAI's curricula which is vital for me to create an experimental film.
All great experimental works or theories are based on older ones, for example, David Lynch's film
style was obviously affected by the European Avant–grade Film Movement, specifically surrealism.
Emphasizing the randomness in dream and the interpretation of dreams became a significant feature
of Lynch's work. Thus, it is important to learn from classic theorists to find my own style. Secondly,
courses at SFAI are based on enabling student understanding toward the fundamental process of
film, especially in a very unique Wet Lab offering students with 16mm and Super 8mm which will
not only teach me the digital production process, but also the traditional ones. As an independent
filmmaker, I participate in every aspect of my own work from screenplay writing to the background

Compare And Contrast Dreamworks And Disney
Animated films are one of the most entertaining forms of media out there. When it comes to
animated films, two major film companies may come to mind: DreamWorks and Disney. For the
past couple of years, people have been asking which company is better, and the answer is quite
simply Disney. They have better stories, they maintain a certain theme, they are consistent, and
extremely successful which is what makes them stand out from other studios and film companies.
Of course, DreamWorks has some of these qualities as well, but they are far and few in between.
Disney, when it comes to their stories, almost always deliver. They have made some of the most
iconic films with brilliant stories such as Aladdin, Lion King, Wreck–It Ralph, Frozen, Beauty and
the Beast, etc. Granted, they haven't always made the best films, but the good definitely outweighs
the bad. They take time to make their films great and usually release a film once a year.
DreamWorks has focused more on the quantity instead of the quality of their films, releasing at least
2 – 3 movies a year. Because of this, only some good movies like Kung Fu Panda, How to Train
Your Dragon, Megamind, etc. have come about and the rest only earning 7/10 or lower.
Disney has always been consistent and has maintained two certain themes since the 1930's, the first
is to "Follow Your Dreams." They've applied this to the older movies like Pinocchio and Dumbo,
and they apply them to today's movies like Tangled or Wreck–It Ralph just

Comparison Of Copy Shop And Uncanny Valley
The short film genre, being defined as a film that is not long enough to be a feature film and
generally less than 40 minutes long, obviously is disadvantaged in terms of time compared to a
feature film. However, this lack of time lets the director make more personal choices, allowing them
to send their message in various ways. This is elucidated in short films Copy Shop, directed by
Virgil Widrich, and Uncanny Valley, which is directed by Federico Heller. Copy shop describes the
loss of individuality and uniqueness in today's society through the use of experimentation on unique
film techniques while Uncanny Valley demonstrates the power of technology, especially in games
by using an emphasis on aesthetics and visual techniques. Copy shop ... Show more content on

The entire film is aesthetically striking, with rich colours and a detailed mise–en–scene. This is
especially conspicuous during the scenes of the gameplay, with an example being when the
audience is first introduced to the 'targets'. The wide angle shot beautifully captures the humanoid
creatures and the landscape, with the 3D rendering and other special effects creating a visually
dynamic scene. The splendid visuals add allure to the game while showing the power of technology,
as it was technology that made the game so visually appealing. The accentuation on visual
techniques also creates a juxtaposition between the real world and the world of virtual reality. The
dilapidated old building with tattered walls and a dirty floor is contrasted to the splendid landscape
laden with boulders and volcanoes. This shows how the virtual reality can become more influential
than the real world, demonstrating the power of games. Heller also uses colour to show the
distinction between virtual reality and the actual world. The world of VR uses rich high contrast
colours, an example being the blue landscape with the orange skies, while the real world is
dominated by the drab browns and greys. As high contrast colours are more eye–catching, it shows
how games have power over the real world. This emphasis on visual techniques in Uncanny Valley

feats of my life. I leaned back in my chair, crossing my arms as I watched the bar begin to load,
signaling that my film would be finished exporting in forty–two minutes. Forty–two minutes until it
was finished and another two and a half hours before it was to be shown in front of a crowd of
hundreds of parents, children, industry professionals, and more. Arms still crossed, my eyes fixated
on the slowly growing blue bar as people behind me conversed with one another. I couldn't hear
them, I didn't care to. All that mattered at this moment was that blue bar. My breathing steadied as I
looked at that computer screen waiting until those forty–two minutes were finally up. Ten minutes

Momotaro's Divine Sea Warriors Propaganda
During the time of war, nations come to rely on propaganda to help invigorate a sense of
nationalism into their people. Not only does it encourage them to unify as one, but propaganda also
creates an enemy, someone that needs to be defeated. The use of propaganda is not limited to those
old enough to understand what is happening in the world, rather it is used even upon the young and
innocent who are new to the world around them. Children become a target that can be swayed by
ideals, but it must be dealt with in a different manner. Using animation is one way to influence a

The Importance Of The Technicolor Process In The Animated...
The animated films of the 1930s and 1940s definitely took advantage of the new Technicolor
process. For Disney in particular, it was the only colour process that he felt worked for his films
(Telotte 48). Especially since the idea of animated films as feature films was relatively new at the
time, there was a necessity for the differentiation of Disney's films to live–action films so that
animated films could be taken seriously. Disney used Technicolor to do just that (Telotte 48).
Another, arguably more important reason for the use of colour in the animated films was the "still–
developing Disney illusion–of–life aesthetic" (Telotte 48). The colours of the films were used to
help portray a natural–looking world, one that would be believable to the viewer despite being
animation. Higgins discusses that the preferred Disney aesthetic was that "artists favored pastels and
saved strongly saturated hues for accents. Backgrounds were kept desaturated and cool to assure
that the main characters would have chromatic prominence [...] Disney artists were adept at
coordinating color and drama," ("Order and Plenitude" 299). Even though they preferred to keep it
natural, the animators were able to experiment with Technicolour more than the colour directors of
live–action films were. As discussed by Francine Stock, "...colour in both setting and lighting could
accentuate mood or character – without aping reality," (83–4). An example of one of these films that
Disney was able to experiment with

1. Introduction
As computer and database technologies develop rapidly, data accumulates in a speed unmatchable
by human capacity of data processing[2]. Data mining as a multidisciplinary joint effort from
databases, machine learning and statistics, is championing in turning mountains of data into nuggets.
Researchers and practitioners realize that in order to use data mining tools effectively, data
processing is essential to successful data mining.PrimitiveThese are features which have an
influence on the output and their role cannot be assumed by the rest.[1]
Feature selection can be found in many areas of data mining such as classification, clustering,
association rules and regression. For example, feature selection is

True Disney Fashion Toy Story
Intro:
In true Disney fashion Toy Story was the first fully computer–generated full–length feature film.
Through the dedication of Pixar's team and Disney's innovation's, Toy Story was taken to 'infinity
and beyond' with the number 1 box office champion in 1995. Grossing over $361 million
worldwide. This film was an amazing breakthrough in the way movies were made and was the
foundation for many movies to come. John Lasseter stated in The Making of Toy Story interview
'We were like pioneers and it was so exciting'. With a budget of $90 million, Toy Story 2 earned a
worldwide gross of just under half a billion dollars, this success laid the foundation for subsequent
ambition and innovation. On February 8th 2007 Toy Story 3's production began for the release date
of 2010 with a budget of $200 million. The film went on to receive an Academy Award for Best
Animated Feature along with a worldwide gross over 1$ billion. Lee Unkrich stated in an interview
with AWN 'We see everything happening behind the scenes and everything that went into making
decisions on the films. For us, they are our lives.' (Desowitz, B, 2010) But what made all this
success possible, what were the technical innovations and were there any upsets along the way?
Toy Story's graphical innovation:
Until Toy Story, feature animation meant hand drawn cartoons, shot one frame at a time. However
the 27 animators for Toy Story gave their characters life by moving 3–D images, created using a

THE PROBLEM
Due to the corporate competition between large pharmaceutical companies and their purpose as a
business to "make money," modern medicine is often characterized by the overuse of chemical
drugs. Under current US law, it is perfectly legal to pay doctors to promote drugs. Big Pharma, the
collective group of big pharmaceutical companies, continues to pay billions of dollars to doctors
promoting and prescribing their drugs. The common assumption when one goes to the doctor is that
he or she is going to get the best medication to cure his or her illness or disease. Sometimes, the
medicine fixes the problem in the short term, but it does not target the underlying cause. On top of
this, the drugs may aim to fix one problem but can cause unwanted side effects in the process. This
creates the never–ending cycle of dependency on chemical drugs as patients are often prescribed
more drugs to deal with the new problems that are created.
Patients often assume that their medicine is based on good unbiased research that needs to go
through extensive clinical testing before eventually making its way to them. The reality is that much
of this research is funded by the pharmaceutical companies who are behind the promotion of the
drugs. The medical education and research that doctors base their recommendations are sometimes
also funded by the same pharmaceutical companies. How much does one really know about what is

Audio Authentication Essay
[1] Paulo Max G. I. Reis (2017) et al present that Audio authentication is an essential project in
multimedia forensics stressful strong techniques to hit upon and identify tampered audio recordings.
In this text, a brand new method to detect adulterations in audio recordings is proposed by
exploiting odd versions inside the Electrical Network Frequency (ENF) signal in the end embedded
in a questioned audio recording. These unusual versions are due to abrupt segment discontinuities
because of insertions and suppressions of audio snippets during the tampering task. First, we

[4] Sayyed Mohammad Hosseini (2016) et. al. present that In this paper a new method for detection
of camera tampering is proposed. Some examples for camera tampering are: shaking the camera,
movement of the camera, occlusion, and rotation of the camera. The tampering may be intentional
or unintentional. In the proposed algorithm, in addition to detection of the exact nature of tampering,
the exact amount of tampering also can be detected (i.e. the amount and direction of movement).
This will help operator in diction making for management in surveillance system. The proposed
algorithm detect the shaking using current and previous frames, as well as by constructing a total
background based on all frames and building a temporary background based on last 10 frames. The
proposed method employs the SURF feature detector to find interest points in both of two
backgrounds and compare and match them using MSAC algorithm. The transformation matrix can
be obtained to detect the camera movement; camera image zoom and camera rotate. Finally, using
the method sobel edge detection the camera occlusion and defocus can be detected. The method also

Summary Of The Movie 'The Bear Came Over The Mountain'
Stories can be told in many different ways through different forms of media ultimately trying to
explain the same idea. The short story "The Bear Came Over the Mountain" and the movie "Away
from her" are examples of two different ways of telling the same story trying to grasp the same ideas
through different forms of media. In this essay evaluations will be made between two different
forms of media using the short story "The Bear Came Over the Mountain" and the movie "Away
from Her". The evaluation will explain whether or not the film lives up to the short story based on
the detail, plot and imagery.
In the movie "Away from her" the beginning scenes start off with the past and then head into the
future, then back to the past again , without explaining details that can be crucial to the story. In the
beginning of the short story it begins with the explanation of the characters family foundation where
it states Fiona's past "Fiona lived in her parents' house, in the town her and grant went to the
university." Then it goes into more detail of Fiona mother and father by stating "Her mother was
Icelandic–a powerful woman with a froth of white hair and indignant far–left politics. The father
was an important cardiologist, revered around the hospital but happily subservient at home, where
he would listen to his wife's strange tirades with an absentminded smile." (Munro, 2013) The movie
did not totally explain Fiona's mother and father only bringing up a small portion that her

The Acclaimed Director Steven Spielberg
Steven Spielberg Steven Spielberg over the years has become one of the world's most acclaimed
directors, some of his more famous films, such Jaws, E.T, and Jurassic Park, broke the current box
office records that were set at the time. But the path to successes was not always easy for him. In
1946, Spielberg began his life in the Ohio city of Cincinnati. He was born into a Jewish family, and
moved to New Jersey, and Arizona in the process of his childhood. In his early teens he began
making armature films with his friends, he would charge 25 cents of admission to his home films,
while his sister sold popcorn. While Spielberg attended his Hebrew school, he was the target of
bullying due to his family being Orthodox Jews, he was never really embarrassed to be a Orthodox
jew, more embarrassed of the impression the outward appearances gave his family. He was always
worried of bringing his friends over to find his Grandfather praying in a corner. He was also the
target of anti–sematic prejudice, that escalated to the point where he ended up with two bloody
noses. When he became a boy scout in 1958 he decided to earn photography merit badge by using
his father's camera to shoot a 8 minute film titled "The Last Gunfight." At the age of 13 he won a
award for a 40 minute film called "escape to Nowhere" which was based on a battle in East Africa.
And at age 16 he directed his first independent film titled "Firelight" which he premiered at his local
theater. In the end the film

Story : From Fairy Tale And Fantasy Ever Told
Cauldron of Story: From Rapunzel to Tangled The Cauldron of Story is, in simplistic terms, a
metaphor used to symbolise the interconnection of all story. The concept is that every myth, fairy–
tale and fantasy ever told is both contained in and drawn from the Cauldron. Therefore, all story
created is a combination of the framework and themes of previously told tales, which have then
been flavoured and adapted by the new teller. The tellers borrow the parts they want, then they
sculpt and shape them to fit their own vision. By doing this they change the flavour of the Cauldron,
creating an entirely new story, while retaining some of the themes and frameworks from others.
Each time this is done, myths, fairy–tales and fantasies become more intertwined, creating a visible
intersection between all story ever told over the ages. Though the idea of a metaphorical cauldron or
soup was originally mentioned in Dasent's 'Popular Tales from the Norse', the concept wasn't fully
fleshed out into the Cauldron of Tale until Tolkien's essay, 'On Faerie–Stories'. According to
Dickerson and O'Hara, in his essay Tolkien also refers to the Cauldron as a 'soup containing bones'
(112). In this re–wording of the Cauldron, the bones are the framework and themes of previous
tales, and the soup is the teller's adaptation of the story in its entirety. The concept of 'The Cauldron
of Story' can be explained in more detail by using the example of Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm's story

A film "Glory Road", based on a true story features a coach, Don Haskins, who is a basketball coach
for the Western Texas Miners. The movie takes place in 1965, Haskin is going against the society's
standards of leading African Americans players to play basketball in college. At the beginning of the
movie, Don Haskin struggles to build a good basketball team because no players want to play at a
no name school. He doesn't care about skin color like the society does, but instead, he wants to

In the middle of the movie, Haskin's team is traveling to play in the NCAA tournament. At the
airport, he is stopped by a reporter and he asks why he is playing so many African American
players. He says, "you 're playing a lot of color boys, are you concern whether the Negro players can
handle the pressure at the national level?" The reporter is implying how a team with mostly only
African American players can't win the championship. In addition, he asked if they are smart
enough to handle the mental strain they'll face in the tournament. Haskin looks displease when the
reporter asked him this question. He answered this question, saying his team is just the same as any
other team in the league. By asking the question if the African American can handle at the national
level, demonstrates they are not smart enough to handle the mental strains. The African American
athletes were only shown for their physique because they were only capable of playing great
basketball. Coach Haskin didn't care if they were smart, he was determined to win the championship
and wanted raw talents. The African American were tools to win the championship. The interviewer
may see them as physically fit, but not mentally strong to handle the tournament.

The NZFC budget is made up of the following; Government funding , Lottery Grants Board (6.5%
of Lotteries Commission profits), film income, interest and reserves. The Department of the Internal
Affairs gave funding to the NZFC in order to "cover administrative costs and an annual grant from
the Lottery Board." Funding allowed the NZFC to "encourage and also to participate and assist in
the making, promotion, distribution, and exhibitions of films." This enhanced their success of
promoting NZ films in the NZFI. Also, the law has required the NZFC to have NZ content in their
films "which could be determined by the 'subject' of the film, the shooting locations, site of

Few people in the cast had experienced acting in feature films, meaning everyone had to learn on
the job. Even people who weren't actors had a small role in the film.
The NZFC was established because they wanted to build "an indigenous motion picture industry",
as well as promoting "cinematograph expressions particular to New Zealand', which would 'counter
the largely unrelieved diet of films from foreign cultures', serve as a means of national self –
understanding, and increase awareness of New Zealand's regional role." Minister Highet argues that
"New Zealand films" were full of "cultural value which interpret the New Zealand experience to
New Zealanders". The NZFC success "could be gauged in terms of public discourse" the
'widespread and positive public discussion not only of the films themselves but also the subjects and
attitudes revealed on the screen, and how these can lead to a better understanding of the New
Zealand character and way of life". The Piano (1993) is a film directed by Jane Campion, one of the

The Help (2011) is a drama set in the 1960s in Mississippi, United States, which successfully
positions audiences using various film techniques to convey the message that prejudice is a
destructive force that corrupts society. Three specific scenes will be analysed and evaluated,
focusing on aspects such as mise–en–scene, cinematography and post–production. Tate Taylor and
Kathryn Stockett provide a detailed insight into the harsh lives of people showing three major types
of prejudice against black people, gender and class. Skeeter wishes to become a professional writer

In this scene a line of black maids are dressed in a monochrome uniform with solemn faces, this
signifies how insignificant they are in the white society. The black maids wore uniforms showing
their class status, symbolising where they belong in civilization while displaying they are on duty.
Post production used – includes the voice over of Aibileen narrating her thoughts and what is
happening. The tone is dull and sad, emitting the perception that this period of time is daunting. The
word daunting contains negative connotations such as horrify and scare. A sharp "d" sound creates
the impression of words such as dangerous and deathly. A slight yellow tint in lighting emphasises
the dim effect, showing that the scene is darker than it seems, meaning that the maids are upset
about their predicament. However, they are obedient, in order to survive in white society, they must
accept the rules set out. Otherwise, they may face the consequences of losing their job which helps
provide funds for themselves and family, they would also risk not being able to find work anywhere
else. This scene shows the discrimination against black people and how downgraded they were
classed, meaning that their pay was limited. Therefore, with the combination of effective post
production sound and contrasting film techniques the producers effectively achieved their goal in
displaying how disrespected black people were seen in

Phases Of Feature Selection Methods
Subset search algorithms explore through candidate feature subsets achieved by a certain evaluation
measure, those are excellent at capturing the benefaction of each subset. In general, Feature
selection methods ought to select the best feature subset from feature space for describing target
interpretations (conceptions) of the learning processes. The phases in the process of feature selection
are given as follows: 1. Starting Point, 2. Search Strategy, 3. Subset Evaluation, 4. Stopping Criteria.
Based on these phases comparative study of feature selection methods is shown in Table 1.There are

Difference between those measured distances has used as the weight of the target feature. This basic
algorithm was extracted into several variants. I–RELIEF approach reduces the biasness of original
RELIEF method. Conditional Mutual Information Maximization (CMIM) is the one that chooses a
feature subset that has maximum relevance to the target class by using conditional mutual
information. CMIM requires both the feature values and output classes to be binary (Diman Todorov
et.al,2014).
Correlation Coefficient approach evaluates how well an individual feature contributes to the
separation of classes. Ranking criteria is used to rank all features using their mean and standard
deviation for all the samples of both classes. The correlation coefficient is successfully reduced the
number of features and also kept good classification accuracy (Zong–Xia et.al,2006).
Between–Within Ratio (BW–ratio) uses the ratio between group to within group sums of squares for
each feature, and select feature with maximum BW–ratio. A single variable can be considered
irrelevant based on its correlation to the class, but when combines with other features in the feature
space, it becomes very relevant (Z. Zhao et.al, 2007).
Genetic Algorithm is a randomized approach. It is a class of evolutionary algorithms that makes use
of practices inspired by evolutionary biology such as inheritance, mutation, selection, and crossover.

Culture, the way of life of a group of people is a very important aspect of human existence. Indeed
the culture of a certain people is extremely significant to them that they strive as much as possible to
prevent its extinction by passing it down from one generation to another. Over the centuries, oral
telling , art making and subsequently writing have been methods of passing and preserving culture
and then recently film making. The film and the media have proven to be an extremely strong factor
when it comes to portrayal, proclamation and even preservation as a result of the numerous numbers
of people the media has access to. For the purpose of this essay, I would be visiting the history of
film in Australia, its cultural importance and significance and its distinct examples in modern day
film.
The Australian film industry has over the years revolutionized from what was called a silent era, to
the sound era and then the new wave. The silent era as the name implies featured film making
without the use of sound while the sound era introduced the addition of sound to films. From the
years 1906 to 1911, Australia happened to be the most prolific producer of feature films in the
world. As at this period in time, Australian producers had easy access to cinema screen because of
the irregular supply of foreign films. This notable success however began to experience a gradual

CHRISTOPHER NOLAN
Christopher Nolan is considered an English–American film director, screenwriter, and producer and
Auteur. Nolan is a man of talent who is known as one of the smartest, most creative, and successful
directors in the film industry today. He is widely recognized after his first successful feature movie
Following(1998),a noir thriller film.Which was recognized at a number of international film

famous at narrating the movie in a non linear way.In the next paragraph im going to discuss why
would i consider him as one of the best modern times auteur.
One of the qualification of being an auteur according to French New Wave film director and film
critic Francois Truffaut is that "a good director exerts such a distinctive style or promotes such a
consistent theme that his or her influence is unmistakable in the body of his or her work."This
statement,it's like it's describing Christopher Nolan and his works, especially in the writing of his
films and how he creates a relatable world within his films and matches it with a completely
unrealistic plot. For example in his film, Inception he creates a real world in which the audience can
completely relate to, setting the bulk of the film in Paris. However the plot of the film ensures that
the Parisian location is set in a dream conscious state so it is not entirely relatable to

Essay on Film Noir Features in Blade Runner and The Matrix
Film Noir Features in Blade Runner and The Matrix
"The Matrix" has a main science fiction theme but also includes features of film noir films. It is
directed and written by Andy and Larry Wachowski. Other than Science Fiction and film noir the
film can also be classed as a Hybrid.
"Blade Runner" is more of a film noir film than "The Matrix". Although it does include action and
fighting scenes but these have film noir features in them. Most ideas about the film are connected
with film noir such as the mystery, the low key lighting and symbolic objects. It was directed by
Ridley Scott and written by Phillip K. Dick, Hampton Fancher and David Webb Peoples.

"The Matrix" and "Blade Runner" both include strong female characters. In "Blade Runner" the
strong female characters are Rachael and Zhora and in "The Matrix" it is Trinity. Audiences demand
strong characters because it is like a role – reversal, in most films men are the hero and leading
characters, which makes it unusual for women to be strong and powerful. The world war influenced
film makers to make films which had strong female characters to encourage women and make them
feel appreciated for all of the jobs that they were doing during the war whilst men were on the
battlefields.
In "Blade Runner" the main character, Deckard, is an ex–policeman and ex–blade runner. He is
found and reassigned as a blade runner to find some rogue replicants who have gone 'On the run'. In
"The Matrix" the main character Thomas A. Anderson is found by a group of people who have
found out that he is 'the one' who will stop "The Matrix", he is bought in to 'The real world' to stop
agents and make the world 'right'.
I feel that in "Blade Runner" the main issues and ideas that the film considers are that the society in
the future is very separated and there are no longer family structures, also that 'real' is a difficult
term to understand as there are replicants in their time and they are made to

Features Needed to Make a Comedy Film

  • 1. Features Needed to Make a Comedy Film For hundreds of years Hollywood has been making countless of different genre movies. One main genre that is very popular is comedy; these films have been entertaining audiences for decades with over–the–top scenes, characters and funny moments. This essay will focus on what features are needed to make a comedy movie by concentrating on the pro–filmic codes, filmic or technical codes, character types and networks, social themes and narrative patterns and stock scenes that go into creating these films. Comedy is a genre of film that uses humour as a driving force. Even though the comedy business may take on some serious material they most likely end with a happy ending. Comedy films have the tendency to become a mixed sub–genre because humour can be incorporated into many other genres. The different types of sub–genres are slapstick, romantic comedy, screwball comedy, teen comedy, family comedy and black comedy. Slapstick is the recourse to humour involving exaggerated physical activity which exceeds the boundaries of common sense. Slapstick comedy is a primarily physical kind of comedy based around pratfalls and mild comic violence. For example, smacks in the head, pokes in the eyes, people falling down, etc. It is probably most widely recognized in the comedy of The Three Stooges, The Pink Panther and for a more contemporary example MTV's Jackass. Romantic comedy films are light, humorous, and playful. The central plot is on romantic ideals such as that true love and is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Rectification Of Cameras Captured Documents Images For... Rectification of camera captured document images for Camera–based OCR technology Abstract Due to the rapid progress in digital cameras industry, camera captured documents becomes as another possibility or choice for document capturing and understanding for OCR applications. However, image quality degradations arising from the image acquisition process have severe effect on these applications. The distortion results from digital camera may take the shape of skew, perspective distortion or geometric distortion. We propose fully automatic preprocessing techniques to enhance the digital camera captured images to improve the performance of OCR applications. Our algorithms depend on the features of the text lines and letters and do not need any especial equipment. Experimental results on a real camera captured images demonstrate 10~15 % enhancement in current commercial OCR packages. 1. Introduction Textual content in books, newspapers and articles have been traditionally digitized using scanners and read with the help of optical character recognition (OCR). Recent technical advances in digital cameras have led the OCR community to consider using them instead of scanners for document capture. Compared with the scanner, the digital camera is quite easier to use, being able to capture images from any viewpoint. Cameras can be easily integrated with portable computing devices such as PDAs, cell phones, or media players. Together, these factors contribute to the growing interest ... • 3. The Suspense In The Sixth Sense Essay The Suspense In The Sixth Sense The Sixth Sense is a psychological thriller. It follows a very simple set of conventions that are associated with all psychological thrillers. The hero or anti–hero is always present in psychological thrillers and is there for the audience to relate to. Vulnerable characters are often depicted as small children. Children are seen as innocent and un–knowing, it is easy for the audience to be aware of what the children are going through as they were all one once. Suspense is always built up with dramatic and scary music. Using this convention allows the audience time to realise that something is going to happen. When the audience views a psychological thriller they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This convention is particularly important when trying to show suspense. Filmmakers are always very happy to accept psychological thrillers because they are usually always popular e.g. The Thing, Scream Trilogy, Alien and Vertical Limit. The Sixth Sense is a psychological thriller about a young boy who can see ghosts and the doctor who is helping him. As the movie progresses it is able to show why the doctor is helping the boy and why the child can see the ghosts. The Sixth Sense was a huge success for a director who had not been marked as one of particular importance. M. Night Shyamalan had previously only directed short films, but had started to come into the mainstream with his second feature length film Wide Awake. The Sixth Sense had a huge box office success all over the world and after being nominated for 6 Academy Awards, it won two – Best Supporting Actor (Haley Joel Osment) and Best Screenplay. This film is another where Bruce Willis is co–starring with a child (previously Mercury Rising). Bruce Willis was specifically chosen to play the role of Dr. Malcolm Crowe. • 4. Memories And The Formation Of Reality In film, flashbacks are interruptions that take the narrative back in time from the current point in the story. They are often used to provide background and context to recount current events of a narrative filling in crucial backstories. In its basic form, the flashback is introduced when a presented image dissolves to another image of the past, which can be either as "a story–being–told or a subjective memory." (Turim, pg. 1) For example, dream sequences and memories are methods used to present flashbacks. They become visual representation to the audience as an act of remembering past experiences of reality. Imagination also plays an important role in shaping the mind and the story similar to memories and the formation of reality. Imagination is usually integrated into animation as an artistic creation to express the artists' ideas or memory. But where does the use of imagination and memories stop? By examining memory represented in animation and film, through Bartlett's theory of schema, we can see how the film develops an active organized method to recognize reality through memory. This paper is examining five films based on the theme of memory, thus arguing that imagination does not distorted memory in animation, but create a role as a form of embellishment for the film to help memory. Fredrick Bartlett is a British psychologist from Cambridge University, based on his book Remembering (1932) that focused on how people made sense of what was being remembered. The ... To transform into a character, I need the proper makeup tools to help me look like Angelina Jolie. The tools I need are makeup brushes: contour brush, eyeshadow brush, angled eyeliner brush. Transforming my face into a well–known celebrity challenges my skills. To transform my face, I see my characteristics are similar to Angelina Jolie. I identify my face to see if the transformation is possible. I need defined cheeks because Angelina Jolie's cheek bones is her most prominent feature. The cheeks must be high and well defined. Defining the cheeks, I choose a medium brown shade of eyeshadow or bronzer. The forehead is the second most important feature to create. Angelina Jolie has a long, narrow forehead, as mine is wide. Having the medium brown shadow on my temples it creates shadows. I create the illusion of a long forehead. After identifying my features, I am ready to start my transformation. The alterations for my face will take time to prefect. It will take an hour or longer to do. I might have to attempt the look a few times until I get it right. • 10. Symbols in the Fairy Tales and Folk Tales Certain psychologist have hypothesized that fairytales represent the most primitive way the mind operates, and within certain folktales, the true message is possible hidden beneath symbols. One folktale in particular, Little Red Riding Hood, is full of symbols with possible deeper meanings. For example some people have speculated that the red hood that Little Red Riding Hood wears is a symbol of the girls sexuality and the "little" in her nickname places an emphasis on her budding nature. That is to say the young girl is in the beginning stages of becoming a woman and doesn't possess much knowledge on the subject of sex. Keeping with this same theme, it can further be hypothesized that the wolf represents the foreign idea of sex, which the young girl finds both unsettling and alluring. By telling the wolf the directions to her grandmother's house, Little Red Riding Hood is evading having to confront the uncomfortable feeling created by the wolf's presence. Instead of dealing with him, Little Red Riding Hood redirects him to her grandmother who is already a woman and is therefore more mature and capable of dealing with the wolf and what he represents (Bettelheim 1). Additionally, the winding path with the flowers that Little Red Riding Hood picks represents temptation and the contrasting direct path to Grandmother's house represents virtue. Finally, the act of the wolf eating the little girl is a symbol for the loss of her innocence due to the fact that the only reason the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is the best way and latest method for artists to create and share their imagination. I love sharing my imagination in my films, not only owing to the fact that I am good at telling stories, but I am also a man with the ambition to change peoples' aesthetic view with experimental films. As my passion lies in film– making, I have made several shorts that I wrote, directed, produced and filmed. Once Upon a Time in Boyhood was the beginning of my film career. First, the critical thinking courses in both history of cinema and tradition on film–making has been attached a great importance in SFAI's curricula which is vital for me to create an experimental film. All great experimental works or theories are based on older ones, for example, David Lynch's film style was obviously affected by the European Avant–grade Film Movement, specifically surrealism. Emphasizing the randomness in dream and the interpretation of dreams became a significant feature of Lynch's work. Thus, it is important to learn from classic theorists to find my own style. Secondly, courses at SFAI are based on enabling student understanding toward the fundamental process of film, especially in a very unique Wet Lab offering students with 16mm and Super 8mm which will not only teach me the digital production process, but also the traditional ones. As an independent filmmaker, I participate in every aspect of my own work from screenplay writing to the background editing and Da Vinci Resolve. Although participation on every aspect of film production does help me learn a lot, professional training on handling basic concepts of film photography and storytelling strategies will definitely enable me to become an expert in filmmaking. • 12. Compare And Contrast Dreamworks And Disney Animated films are one of the most entertaining forms of media out there. When it comes to animated films, two major film companies may come to mind: DreamWorks and Disney. For the past couple of years, people have been asking which company is better, and the answer is quite simply Disney. They have better stories, they maintain a certain theme, they are consistent, and extremely successful which is what makes them stand out from other studios and film companies. Of course, DreamWorks has some of these qualities as well, but they are far and few in between. Disney, when it comes to their stories, almost always deliver. They have made some of the most iconic films with brilliant stories such as Aladdin, Lion King, Wreck–It Ralph, Frozen, Beauty and the Beast, etc. Granted, they haven't always made the best films, but the good definitely outweighs the bad. • 13. Comparison Of Copy Shop And Uncanny Valley The short film genre, being defined as a film that is not long enough to be a feature film and generally less than 40 minutes long, obviously is disadvantaged in terms of time compared to a feature film. However, this lack of time lets the director make more personal choices, allowing them to send their message in various ways. This is elucidated in short films Copy Shop, directed by Virgil Widrich, and Uncanny Valley, which is directed by Federico Heller. Copy shop describes the loss of individuality and uniqueness in today's society through the use of experimentation on unique film techniques while Uncanny Valley demonstrates the power of technology, especially in games by using an emphasis on aesthetics and visual techniques. This is especially conspicuous during the scenes of the gameplay, with an example being when the audience is first introduced to the 'targets'. The wide angle shot beautifully captures the humanoid creatures and the landscape, with the 3D rendering and other special effects creating a visually dynamic scene. The splendid visuals add allure to the game while showing the power of technology, as it was technology that made the game so visually appealing. The accentuation on visual techniques also creates a juxtaposition between the real world and the world of virtual reality. The dilapidated old building with tattered walls and a dirty floor is contrasted to the splendid landscape laden with boulders and volcanoes. This shows how the virtual reality can become more influential than the real world, demonstrating the power of games. Heller also uses colour to show the distinction between virtual reality and the actual world. The world of VR uses rich high contrast colours, an example being the blue landscape with the orange skies, while the real world is dominated by the drab browns and greys. As high contrast colours are more eye–catching, it shows how games have power over the real world. This emphasis on visual techniques in Uncanny Valley ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Such a small act at that moment felt like one of the greatest feats of my life. I leaned back in my chair, crossing my arms as I watched the bar begin to load, signaling that my film would be finished exporting in forty–two minutes. Forty–two minutes until it was finished and another two and a half hours before it was to be shown in front of a crowd of hundreds of parents, children, industry professionals, and more. Arms still crossed, my eyes fixated on the slowly growing blue bar as people behind me conversed with one another. I couldn't hear them, I didn't care to. All that mattered at this moment was that blue bar. My breathing steadied as I looked at that computer screen waiting until those forty–two minutes were finally up. Ten minutes in and people had begun to leave the room, heading down towards the auditorium to prepare for the screenings. I thought of joining my friends down in the auditorium, though the idea became mixed with my thoughts of the exporting. • 16. The Importance Of The Technicolor Process In The Animated... The animated films of the 1930s and 1940s definitely took advantage of the new Technicolor process. For Disney in particular, it was the only colour process that he felt worked for his films (Telotte 48). Especially since the idea of animated films as feature films was relatively new at the time, there was a necessity for the differentiation of Disney's films to live–action films so that animated films could be taken seriously. Disney used Technicolor to do just that (Telotte 48). Another, arguably more important reason for the use of colour in the animated films was the "still– developing Disney illusion–of–life aesthetic" (Telotte 48). The colours of the films were used to help portray a natural–looking world, one that would be believable to the viewer despite being animation. Higgins discusses that the preferred Disney aesthetic was that "artists favored pastels and saved strongly saturated hues for accents. Backgrounds were kept desaturated and cool to assure that the main characters would have chromatic prominence [...] Disney artists were adept at coordinating color and drama," ("Order and Plenitude" 299). Even though they preferred to keep it natural, the animators were able to experiment with Technicolour more than the colour directors of live–action films were. As discussed by Francine Stock, "...colour in both setting and lighting could accentuate mood or character – without aping reality," (83–4). • 18. Memories And The Formation Of Reality In cinema, flashbacks are interruptions that take the narrative back in time from the current point in the story. They are often used to provide background and context to recount current events of a narrative filling in crucial backstories. In its basic form, the flashback is introduced when a presented image dissolves to another image of the past, which can be either as "a story–being–told or a subjective memory." (Turim) For example, dream sequences and memories are methods used to present flashbacks. They become a visual representation to the audience as an act of remembering past experiences of reality. Imagination also plays an important role in shaping the mind and the story, similar to memories and the formation of reality. Imagination is usually integrated into animation as an artistic creation to express the artists' ideas or memory. But where does the use of imagination and memories stop? By examining memory represented in animation and film, through Bartlett's theory of schema, we can see how the film develops an active organized method to distinguish reality from memory. This paper examines five films based on memory, thus arguing that imagination does not distort memory in animation, but create a role as a form of embellishment for the film to help memory. Under current US law, it is perfectly legal to pay doctors to promote drugs. Big Pharma, the collective group of big pharmaceutical companies, continues to pay billions of dollars to doctors promoting and prescribing their drugs. The common assumption when one goes to the doctor is that he or she is going to get the best medication to cure his or her illness or disease. Sometimes, the medicine fixes the problem in the short term, but it does not target the underlying cause. On top of this, the drugs may aim to fix one problem but can cause unwanted side effects in the process. This creates the never–ending cycle of dependency on chemical drugs as patients are often prescribed more drugs to deal with the new problems that are created. Patients often assume that their medicine is based on good unbiased research that needs to go through extensive clinical testing before eventually making its way to them. • 28. Story : From Fairy Tale And Fantasy Ever Told Cauldron of Story: From Rapunzel to Tangled The Cauldron of Story is, in simplistic terms, a metaphor used to symbolise the interconnection of all story. The concept is that every myth, fairy– tale and fantasy ever told is both contained in and drawn from the Cauldron. Therefore, all story created is a combination of the framework and themes of previously told tales, which have then been flavoured and adapted by the new teller. The tellers borrow the parts they want, then they sculpt and shape them to fit their own vision. By doing this they change the flavour of the Cauldron, creating an entirely new story, while retaining some of the themes and frameworks from others. Each time this is done, myths, fairy–tales and fantasies become more intertwined, creating a visible intersection between all story ever told over the ages. Though the idea of a metaphorical cauldron or soup was originally mentioned in Dasent's 'Popular Tales from the Norse', the concept wasn't fully fleshed out into the Cauldron of Tale until Tolkien's essay, 'On Faerie–Stories'. According to Dickerson and O'Hara, in his essay Tolkien also refers to the Cauldron as a 'soup containing bones' (112). In this re–wording of the Cauldron, the bones are the framework and themes of previous tales, and the soup is the teller's adaptation of the story in its entirety. Otherwise, they may face the consequences of losing their job which helps provide funds for themselves and family, they would also risk not being able to find work anywhere else. This scene shows the discrimination against black people and how downgraded they were classed, meaning that their pay was limited. Therefore, with the combination of effective post production sound and contrasting film techniques the producers effectively achieved their goal in displaying how disrespected black people were seen in ... Phases Of Feature Selection Methods Subset search algorithms explore through candidate feature subsets achieved by a certain evaluation measure, those are excellent at capturing the benefaction of each subset. In general, Feature selection methods ought to select the best feature subset from feature space for describing target interpretations (conceptions) of the learning processes. The phases in the process of feature selection are given as follows: 1. Starting Point, 2. Search Strategy, 3. Subset Evaluation, 4. Stopping Criteria. Based on these phases comparative study of feature selection methods is shown in Table 1.There are many widely used methods which are employed to diminish number of features and their result on learning performance have been evaluated and ... I–RELIEF approach reduces the biasness of original RELIEF method. Conditional Mutual Information Maximization (CMIM) is the one that chooses a feature subset that has maximum relevance to the target class by using conditional mutual information. CMIM requires both the feature values and output classes to be binary (Diman Todorov et.al,2014). Correlation Coefficient approach evaluates how well an individual feature contributes to the separation of classes. Ranking criteria is used to rank all features using their mean and standard deviation for all the samples of both classes. The correlation coefficient is successfully reduced the number of features and also kept good classification accuracy (Zong–Xia et.al,2006). Between–Within Ratio (BW–ratio) uses the ratio between group to within group sums of squares for each feature, and select feature with maximum BW–ratio. A single variable can be considered irrelevant based on its correlation to the class, but when combines with other features in the feature space, it becomes very relevant (Z. Zhao et.al, 2007). Genetic Algorithm is a randomized approach. It is a class of evolutionary algorithms that makes use of practices inspired by evolutionary biology such as inheritance, mutation, selection, and crossover. Each feature set ... Indeed the culture of a certain people is extremely significant to them that they strive as much as possible to prevent its extinction by passing it down from one generation to another. Over the centuries, oral telling , art making and subsequently writing have been methods of passing and preserving culture and then recently film making. The film and the media have proven to be an extremely strong factor when it comes to portrayal, proclamation and even preservation as a result of the numerous numbers of people the media has access to. For the purpose of this essay, I would be visiting the history of film in Australia, its cultural importance and significance and its distinct examples in modern day film. The Australian film industry has over the years revolutionized from what was called a silent era, to the sound era and then the new wave. The silent era as the name implies featured film making without the use of sound while the sound era introduced the addition of sound to films. From the years 1906 to 1911, Australia happened to be the most prolific producer of feature films in the world. As at this period in time, Australian producers had easy access to cinema screen because of the irregular supply of foreign films. This notable success however began to experience a gradual decline as the Hollywood ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nolan is a man of talent who is known as one of the smartest, most creative, and successful directors in the film industry today. He is widely recognized after his first successful feature movie Following(1998),a noir thriller film.Which was recognized at a number of international film festival.Common themes and actors can be seen throughout Christopher Nolan's films,he is also famous at narrating the movie in a non linear way.In the next paragraph im going to discuss why would i consider him as one of the best modern times auteur. One of the qualification of being an auteur according to French New Wave film director and film critic Francois Truffaut is that "a good director exerts such a distinctive style or promotes such a consistent theme that his or her influence is unmistakable in the body of his or her work."This statement,it's like it's describing Christopher Nolan and his works, especially in the writing of his films and how he creates a relatable world within his films and matches it with a completely unrealistic plot. For example in his film, Inception he creates a real world in which the audience can completely relate to, setting the bulk of the film in Paris. However the plot of the film ensures that the Parisian location is set in a dream conscious state so it is not entirely relatable to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In "Blade Runner" the strong female characters are Rachael and Zhora and in "The Matrix" it is Trinity. Audiences demand strong characters because it is like a role – reversal, in most films men are the hero and leading characters, which makes it unusual for women to be strong and powerful. The world war influenced film makers to make films which had strong female characters to encourage women and make them feel appreciated for all of the jobs that they were doing during the war whilst men were on the battlefields. In "Blade Runner" the main character, Deckard, is an ex–policeman and ex–blade runner. He is found and reassigned as a blade runner to find some rogue replicants who have gone 'On the run'. In "The Matrix" the main character Thomas A. Anderson is found by a group of people who have found out that he is 'the one' who will stop "The Matrix", he is bought in to 'The real world' to stop agents and make the world 'right'. I feel that in "Blade Runner" the main issues and ideas that the film considers are that the society in the future is very separated and there are no longer family structures, also that 'real' is a difficult term to understand as there are replicants in their time and they are made to ...
