results are being seen. Studies and test scores have proven that progress follows proper
implementation of technology in schools. The outdated practices of using textbooks as primary
information and sitting behind your desk and lecturing are over. Students must be stimulated in a
multitude of ways; however, the most diverse and innovative ways of presenting crucial information
is through technology. Creating lessons in your classroom that are always the same is extremely
selfish and not effective to all students. Technology has given educators the luxury of differentiating

Technology is an ever changing feature in education. In order for technology to be effective there
are many things that need to coordinate together. I will discuss some the major topics of integrating
technology into classrooms. I will also have some insight into how schools have changed over the
years and what I see now in the classroom.
In my three years of teaching I have already seen many changes to the technology that we use. I
think that traditional media could be defined a couple different ways, whether we talk about the very
beginnings of technology to technology that was used five years ago, either could be considered
traditional. Newspapers, radios, and television could be considered as the first medias that could

think stimulate students' minds.
The internet came along in the early 90's and really revolutionized students' abilities to connect with

of high school and that has sparked the age of social media. Now students can reach information,

During my time as volunteer at Somerset Dade Academy, I was able to work closely with the
elementary and middle school teacher. During each visit, I was able to follow Ms. Lee's daily
routine. In the morning, we had 30 minutes to plan and get her cart ready with supplies she needed
for the day. Also, we would both create various model artworks to inspire her students to create
something more original and imaginative. She wheeled her cart through certain elementary classes
depending on her schedule. Depending on the grade level she was assign to that day, we were able
to teach her students the fundamental concepts of arts and major art movements, all in 30 minutes.
Every three weeks, she would focus on a concept, artist, or art movement. Additionally, she would
assign vocabulary words, which her students would copy and also had access to them online on
Quizlet. At the end, she would administer a summative test on everything they learned for the past
three weeks. On the other hand, Ms. Lee's middle school classes were different, more one–on–one,
and it was a one–hour period. Her students were able to recreate impressionist and expressionist
artworks, such as Monet's Water Lilies, Van Gogh Starry Night and The Bedroom on wall–sized

themselves that they might have an assignment to do that night at home. Once they go home after a
day at school, students will have the help of their parents or guardians to ask if they have homework
that night. Parents are an enormous help when it comes to high school. Students have the

The work load that also comes from high school is, what most would call, minimal compared to a
college setting. Classes in high school are a year long term and each section of each course is drawn
out. For example, a class could take two weeks to complete one chapter. This allows teachers to
explain the material in detail and give out worksheets that contain small portions of one chapter.
Most of these worksheets can be completed in class allowing students to not have any work outside

databases. The search terms used were iPad, disabilities, education, and classroom. I chose this
article because it has literature review of previous studies, but most importantly it includes
information and research on how to integrate the use of iPads and other similar devices in the
special education classroom. This is unique to the other articles I have reviewed and offers
suggestions and resources.

This article relies on several previous research studies of the use of iPads in the special education
classroom as a means to determine best practices for teachers in implementing the devices in their
classrooms. The literature reviewed includes studies on students learning English as a second
language and studies showing students with other language barriers using the devices to improve

rather large white classroom blanketed in multiple posters of words and the alphabet. It was the first
week of first grade and Mrs. Wilson had just begun to go over with the class words that rhyme with
each other. CAT! RAT! My classmates and I shouted out examples and felt a little joy in receiving
praise from our teacher, as she wrote them on the whiteboard. By the time we had finished we had

when they are delivered. If a teacher can operate a smart phone, they will be able to use the KiD–35.
1.3 Project Analysis
We believe IWB's were a very good step in interactive education. However, they have many flaws
that the KiD–35 will approve upon.
Traditional IWB's have need the child to get out of their seat in class to interact with the board, not
every student gets the some amount of interaction with the board. (Deubel, 2010)
Many teachers using the IWB's do not change the method in which they use the board. So if the
assignments seem repetitive, students lose interest.
In our target market, many traditional IWB's are too large for elementary school students to use.

Without certain tactics, students are doomed to the same lecture style of education. In this style the
teacher is the possessor of knowledge. The teacher lectures and the class takes notes. The teacher
then models and the class participates in guided practice. The teacher gives homework and the
students do independent study. There is no connection of life and lesson plan in this style. Not all
quiet classrooms are learning classrooms. The teacher in this situation may think of himself as the
key to unlocking the mysteries of universe and all student better take heed to his knowledge. In
other words, be quiet and just listen. There are many different learning styles, and this only
promotes one – auditory. This is not to say that this method of teaching is not appropriate, but it
should be used in moderation.
A more effective method would be a discussion method (Henning). This could be implemented in a
many different ways, including discussions spun off of short mini–lectures, group lead discussions,
teacher lead discussions, and discussion provoked by audio visuals as described above. In an article
written by Ken Dolenson, he states by using student centered discussions the teacher can be honest
and let their biased enter the classroom. In return the students will discuss and ask questions that
will cause the students to think critically.

Explain that the class will be reading, writing, and reflecting on nature. Read out loud to the
students In A Nutshell by Joseph Anthony. While reading, stop to check students understanding,
explaining words and concepts as needed. After the completing reading, discuss the book with the
students. Ask questions, such as, what happened to the tree? How did it become a different tree?
Explain to the students they will be creating an expository paragraph on a plant or tree. Show
students a poster board on the process approach to writing. On the poster board are the steps listed
in order are, first prewriting included brainstorming and a picture of what prewriting looks like. The
second step is writing a rough draft of their ideas. The next step is revising and editing. The final
step is rewriting and publishing the paragraph. A visual is next to each step to show the students
what an example looks like in the process. Display and explain pictures on the interactive
whiteboard of plants and trees and the life cycle. Students and teacher will brainstorm a list of plants
or trees that students could write about. The students pick a plant or tree to write about. Turning to a

38. Classroom Reflection Analysis
As I have learned through experience, diverse classrooms full of "windows and mirrors" are the best
learning environments for me. By having different perspectives, or windows, in a classroom, it
enables students to glean from various experiences. Mirrors, or similar people with similar
experiences, are also important to have in a classroom setting so that students can relate to each
other and feel comfortable. Over the years of my school career, I have found myself stuck seeing
many windows, and not many mirrors, due to lack of diversity in the schools I have attended, but
once given the opportunity to learn in a more diverse classroom, my experience improved
dramatically. In Emily Style's "Curriculum as Window and Mirror" she states, "sometimes when we
hear another out, glancing through the window of their humanity, we can see our own image
reflected in the glass of their window. The window becomes our mirror!" (1). This metaphor proved
to be true this past summer of 2017, when I took a U.S. History course at Stone Ridge. Although the
class itself was not the most enjoyable, the people in the class made it more pleasant. About one
third of the class was black, which has been very rare for me in the past. When the class got to
certain discussions like the "Black Church" or different civil rights movements, the black students in
the class were given the opportunity to chime in and share relatable experiences. Not only were we
engaged with the material, but we were also able to see "mirrors" in each others' lives and other
students were able to see "windows" in ours'. This rare occurrence helped me participate in the
class, which can generally be a hard thing for me to do. Hearing my peers' similar experiences was
helpful in seeing that there are people at Stone Ridge who have had comparable experiences to
mine. In addition to seeing mirrors in the class, it was also nice to see a variety of windows in the
class. One day, we got into a discussion about racism and stereotyping, and in that conversation,
everyone was able to share their opinions. It was interesting hearing the perspectives that were

Course Evaluation for CAP 141C – Dr. Alvarez
I will begin my course evaluation by stating that I am only anticipating on obtaining an A or high–B
in this class due to the fact that I only learned the course material through self–teaching. I did not
obtain any knowledge of the course material from Dr. Alvarez's lectures. This is largely due to the
fact of her grotesque teaching style. In order to further explain how her teaching style impeded on
my, and several others', education of the course material, I have provided several examples of what
Dr. Alvarez has done during class. These examples below are in no particular order:

Therefore, this eliminates any claim that the classroom is at fault for students not seeing what is
displayed on the whiteboard. Students with poor eyesight moved up to the front of the classroom
and still experienced a difficult time in attempting to decipher Dr. Alvarez's handwriting. Therefore,
the only logical argument that could be presented as to why the students kept interrupting in order to
ask what, exactly, is written on the whiteboard is due to Dr. Alvarez's atrocious handwriting. With
this constant interruption, it was highly difficult for Dr. Alvarez to complete the lecture within the
given timeframe of the class. I, personally, have quite poor handwriting. Therefore, if I was given
the opportunity to instruct a class and I had the technology in the classroom to present some sort of
PowerPoint, it would only make logical sense to use that technology to, not only my, but the
students' advantage. The students would then be able to read what I am displaying while I am
further explaining what is being displayed, as opposed to the students attempting to decipher my
poor handwriting throughout the entirety of the class. This is just one example of Dr. Alvarez's
several attempts at different teaching styles. She must have eventually given up on trying to change
her teaching style as she eventually reverted to her original teaching style.
