I chose to observe Mrs. Tijerina for my classroom observation. There are many reasons why I

The interactive software can even replace many tools that educators have used for years. The Smart
Board allows for the virtual manipulation of tools like stop watches, scales, calculators, dice and
other educational manipulative (Carter, 2006) . The Smart Board also makes classroom management
easier. Unlike a computer which must be controlled at the mouse and keyboard which is usually
located at a desk in the corner of the classroom, Smart Boards are operated from the actual board

Integrating Technology into Classrooms
Technology is an ever changing feature in education. In order for technology to be effective there
are many things that need to coordinate together. I will discuss some the major topics of integrating
technology into classrooms. I will also have some insight into how schools have changed over the
years and what I see now in the classroom.
In my three years of teaching I have already seen many changes to the technology that we use. I
think that traditional media could be defined a couple different ways, whether we talk about the very
beginnings of technology to technology that was used five years ago, either could be considered
traditional. Newspapers, radios, and television could be considered as the first medias that could
connect students to people and happenings outside of the classroom. These connections are what I
think stimulate students' minds.
The internet came along in the early 90's and really revolutionized students' abilities to connect with
people outside of the classroom. (Graber, 2012). I first remember getting Facebook towards the end
of high school and that has sparked the age of social media. Now students can reach information,
blogs, and social media from their phones! I think the role of traditional media has encouraged
students' ability to learn from multiple mediums outside of the classroom. Not everything has been
positive from technology, but because of it students have all the opportunities they could ask for to

My Time As Volunteer At Somerset Dade Academy
During my time as volunteer at Somerset Dade Academy, I was able to work closely with the
elementary and middle school teacher. During each visit, I was able to follow Ms. Lee's daily
routine. In the morning, we had 30 minutes to plan and get her cart ready with supplies she needed
for the day. Also, we would both create various model artworks to inspire her students to create
something more original and imaginative. She wheeled her cart through certain elementary classes
depending on her schedule. Depending on the grade level she was assign to that day, we were able

The next chapter in many people's lives is moving away from their hometown and attending college.
What people don't yet understand is the major differences between college and high school. Another

In high school, it is illegal to be truant and classroom attendance is required to graduate so, the only

class of the day and all classes are set up for the rest of the day. In class, teachers usually hand out
assignments regularly and tell their students the due dates of each assignment. Some teachers even
go ahead and have any assignments that are due posted in their classroom to remind students every
day. The only responsibility that the high school student has is to look at the white board and remind
themselves that they might have an assignment to do that night at home. Once they go home after a
day at school, students will have the help of their parents or guardians to ask if they have homework
that night. Parents are an enormous help when it comes to high school. Students have the

The work load that also comes from high school is, what most would call, minimal compared to a
college setting. Classes in high school are a year long term and each section of each course is drawn
out. For example, a class could take two weeks to complete one chapter. This allows teachers to
explain the material in detail and give out worksheets that contain small portions of one chapter.
Most of these worksheets can be completed in class allowing students to not have any work outside
of the class room. What this creates is a workload that is very simple to maintain and allow students
to worry less about working at home.

Integrating Instructional Technology Technology is important in our education today. Technology
can be a vital tool in enhancing and improving the instruction for our students. Our technology
today allows our students to search resources, use social media sites, and locate almost anything that
they may be researching for a specific subject. Teachers need to know how to incorporate these tools
into their curriculum in a way that facilitates and enhances student learning. Three technology tools

Walking up to L.J. Stevens Intermediate School in rural Wilmington, Illinois brings curiosity and
excitement to me getting to interview a teacher that I've seen through the years but never had more

The amount and usage of technology around the world is constantly growing. Because of
technological advances, more and more schools are opting into technology–based learning, even
with students as young as preschoolers. Many teachers (and parents as well) trust that the increasing
exposure to and implementation of this technology is helping children's learning abilities when used
responsibly (Sharkins et al., 2016, p. 437). In my observation of a preschool classroom consisting of
twenty boys and girls (ages 4–5), the primary manner of teaching included an interactive
whiteboard. The teacher chooses one student per day to help her create a calendar on Starfall,
starting with the month, then the weekday, and finally the date. The other children appeared to be
excited about using the board and cheered the student helper on as she successfully completed the

Going into my math lesson, I was nervous. Not about the material because I love the subject at hand
but, I didn't really know the students in the way that I would've wanted to know them. I would've
felt more comfortable if I had worked with them all in math before this less. I knew their
mathematics levels because I have seen the worksheets that they have worked on in the previous
classes. I knew what two of them struggled in before teaching this lesson. What I was nervous about
was the fact that, I didn't know how they would act towards my teaching. I also was scared that my

basis. Teachers' can better the future by fostering and encouraging children's ideas, intelligence and
individual characteristics. I really enjoy being around children. You may think that you are the one

article because it has literature review of previous studies, but most importantly it includes
information and research on how to integrate the use of iPads and other similar devices in the

suggestions and resources.

This article relies on several previous research studies of the use of iPads in the special education
classroom as a means to determine best practices for teachers in implementing the devices in their
classrooms. The literature reviewed includes studies on students learning English as a second

I was a six year old kid sitting on the floor with numerous other kids my age. We were sitting in a
rather large white classroom blanketed in multiple posters of words and the alphabet. It was the first
week of first grade and Mrs. Wilson had just begun to go over with the class words that rhyme with
each other. CAT! RAT! My classmates and I shouted out examples and felt a little joy in receiving
praise from our teacher, as she wrote them on the whiteboard. By the time we had finished we had
filled up almost the entire board. Then Mrs. Wilson began to talk about the importance of having an
impressive vocabulary, or "knowing a lot of words" as she put it. She told us that learning more
words gave us more things to be able to say, and that we would need them for the rest of our lives to

The goal of this project is to help advance the education process of elementary school students. A lot
of schools have adapted to the use of interactive white boards (IWBs). And while these IWBs do a
good job bringing interactivity to the classroom, our product, the KiD–35 takes interactivity to the

The transition for teachers is also made quite easily by introductory demos provided with the desks
when they are delivered. If a teacher can operate a smart phone, they will be able to use the KiD–35.
1.3 Project Analysis
We believe IWB's were a very good step in interactive education. However, they have many flaws
that the KiD–35 will approve upon.
Traditional IWB's have need the child to get out of their seat in class to interact with the board, not
every student gets the some amount of interaction with the board. (Deubel, 2010)
Many teachers using the IWB's do not change the method in which they use the board. So if the
assignments seem repetitive, students lose interest.
In our target market, many traditional IWB's are too large for elementary school students to use.

Introduction: Case Study
There are many different misbehaviors that a teacher may encounter from his or her students if an
effective classroom management plan is not put in place at the beginning of a new school term or
year. Canter's assertive discipline is based mainly on fair rules and negative consequences (Ellis,
David W. 1995). The implementation of an effective plan will cut down on off–task behaviors and
will make way for more time to be spent on promotion of a stimulating learning environment. There
are several behavior management plans from which educators can choose; the problem sometimes
comes in choosing one that fits well with the students in the class. Additionally, educators have to
remember that the same behavior management plan may not work from teacher to teacher, and

transform with time. When once simple hand tools to complete simple tasks were considered
technological advances; today technology is viewed a little differently, but the presence remains the

sides of my family are large and we always traveled to different states to visit other family members

Today I went to Sunrise Elementary to observe Ms. Thune's first grade classroom. The teacher was
extremely friendly and has only been teaching for three years. Right away we headed to recess to

Whenever they got noisy she would say a new catchy phrase. For example, "1–2–3 eyes on me",
"hands on top–everyone stop", "let's use our level 1 voice", and "Hey 1st Grade" in a singing tone

Calculus I is the first university mathematics class many of our students have to take, our goal is to
teach them not only math content but also train them to become independent and skilled problem
solvers in those problems that require the techniques and concepts of calculus. The idea of inverted
classroom is that the students learn best when they are actively working on a task rather than
passively listening to the lecture. This approach to doing class is sometimes called the "flipped

students come from are not diverse at all and is predominantly white. My chart state that there are

Without certain tactics, students are doomed to the same lecture style of education. In this style the
teacher is the possessor of knowledge. The teacher lectures and the class takes notes. The teacher
then models and the class participates in guided practice. The teacher gives homework and the
students do independent study. There is no connection of life and lesson plan in this style. Not all
quiet classrooms are learning classrooms. The teacher in this situation may think of himself as the

As I have learned through experience, diverse classrooms full of "windows and mirrors" are the best
learning environments for me. By having different perspectives, or windows, in a classroom, it
enables students to glean from various experiences. Mirrors, or similar people with similar

many windows, and not many mirrors, due to lack of diversity in the schools I have attended, but
once given the opportunity to learn in a more diverse classroom, my experience improved
dramatically. In Emily Style's "Curriculum as Window and Mirror" she states, "sometimes when we
hear another out, glancing through the window of their humanity, we can see our own image
reflected in the glass of their window. The window becomes our mirror!" (1). This metaphor proved
to be true this past summer of 2017, when I took a U.S. History course at Stone Ridge. Although the
class itself was not the most enjoyable, the people in the class made it more pleasant. About one
third of the class was black, which has been very rare for me in the past. When the class got to
certain discussions like the "Black Church" or different civil rights movements, the black students in
the class were given the opportunity to chime in and share relatable experiences. Not only were we
engaged with the material, but we were also able to see "mirrors" in each others' lives and other
students were able to see "windows" in ours'. This rare occurrence helped me participate in the
class, which can generally be a hard thing for me to do. Hearing my peers' similar experiences was
helpful in seeing that there are people at Stone Ridge who have had comparable experiences to
mine. In addition to seeing mirrors in the class, it was also nice to see a variety of windows in the
class. One day, we got into a discussion about racism and stereotyping, and in that conversation,
everyone was able to share their opinions. It was interesting hearing the perspectives that were

Course Evaluation for CAP 141C – Dr. Alvarez
I will begin my course evaluation by stating that I am only anticipating on obtaining an A or high–B
in this class due to the fact that I only learned the course material through self–teaching. I did not
obtain any knowledge of the course material from Dr. Alvarez's lectures. This is largely due to the
fact of her grotesque teaching style. In order to further explain how her teaching style impeded on
my, and several others', education of the course material, I have provided several examples of what
Dr. Alvarez has done during class. These examples below are in no particular order:

Therefore, this eliminates any claim that the classroom is at fault for students not seeing what is
displayed on the whiteboard. Students with poor eyesight moved up to the front of the classroom
and still experienced a difficult time in attempting to decipher Dr. Alvarez's handwriting. Therefore,
the only logical argument that could be presented as to why the students kept interrupting in order to
ask what, exactly, is written on the whiteboard is due to Dr. Alvarez's atrocious handwriting. With
this constant interruption, it was highly difficult for Dr. Alvarez to complete the lecture within the
given timeframe of the class. I, personally, have quite poor handwriting. Therefore, if I was given
the opportunity to instruct a class and I had the technology in the classroom to present some sort of
PowerPoint, it would only make logical sense to use that technology to, not only my, but the
students' advantage. The students would then be able to read what I am displaying while I am
further explaining what is being displayed, as opposed to the students attempting to decipher my
poor handwriting throughout the entirety of the class. This is just one example of Dr. Alvarez's
several attempts at different teaching styles. She must have eventually given up on trying to change
her teaching style as she eventually reverted to her original teaching style.
