Presentation of Slovenia

2. is an European country in the south of
Central Europe. The capital city is
Ljubljana, which is the economic, cultural
and political center. The highest
mountain is Triglav (2,864 m).

3. Slovenia has 2,050,189 inhabitants. The
official and national language is Slovenian.
In 2004 we became a member of EU.

4. In Slovenia we have a lot of traditional dishes,
among which the most famous are: ajdovi
žganci (buckwheat žganci), potica (roll-cake),
idrijski žlikrofi (potatoe žlikrofi from Idrija), jota
(a stew made of cabbage), matevž (potatoes
with beans).

5. In Slovenia we have many great athletes. The most
famous are:
Tina Maze - a World Cup alpine ski racerand a two-time
Olympic gold medallist.
Anže Kopitar nicknamed Kopiis a Slovenian
professional ice hockey center and alternate captain of
the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League
(USA).

6. Slovenia is also known for its world-famous Lipica Stud
Farm, famous for its Lipizzaner horses. They are known
due to their beautiful white colour, their almost incredible
learning ability and their dancing skills!
Lipizzaner is a rare and unique breed. The world-famous
Spanish Riding School uses highly trained
Lipizzaner stallions in public performances.

7. is one of the most beautiful alpine resorts in the world.
Everyone is fascinated by the beauty and hopes that, on
a dark night, will hear the sunken bell ringing from the
depths of the lake, just as promised in the Legend of the
sunken bell.

8. It is in the idyllic village of Predjama.
It is only accessible from one side, however the legend
says that the robber Baron Erazem was getting his food
and drinks supply through a secret passage leading
from the old castle onto the surface.

9. Even though we don’t have a long coast,
there are many picturesque seaside towns
that you can visit.

10. We get our salt from the Sečovlje saltworks, first
mentioned in the 13th century
Beautiful towns of Piran, Izola, and Koper draw visitors
with their medieval cores, while Portorož offers a lot of
modern hotels,a marina, an airport, thermal baths, a
casino and cultural and sport events.

11. is the best-known cave in the world. It is also the
greatest tourist attraction in Slovenia and one of the
world's largest monuments. 21 km of passages,
galleries and magnificent halls offer a unique
experience of the underground world.

12. The unusual looks of the cave have always sparked our
imagination. At first it was believed that they were just
baby dragons which the high tide brought to the surface.
As a matter of fact, there might be some truth to these
old beliefs.

13. The following sights in Slovenia have been entered onto the UNESCO
World Heritage list so far:
The Škocjan Caves, which represent part of the world's natural
heritage,
The Idrija mercury mine,
The prehistoric pile dwellings in the area of Ljubljansko
barje as part of the world's cultural heritage.
