years of exile on a no moon night and the
entire region was lit up to welcome him home,
that is why Diwali is celebrated.
• It is also considered to be the New Year for
Hindus.
• People do up their homes, light candles, visit
each other and exchange gifts- this is believed
to lend prosperity.
3. Rangoli patterns are made with coloured saw dust or chalk powder or even
with flowers to decorate the entrances of the homes.
4. People offer prayers to God. Temple spaces in homes are decorated with fresh
marigold flowers
5. Special prayers are offered to Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi- the goddess of wealth.
