Brief History Of Soccer Research Paper
Soccer has been described as the most beautiful game in the world. It is certainly the most popular; it's played by more than 265 million worldwide!
Every four years, thirty–two countries from around the world gather – after going through a grueling qualifying process – to compete for the honor of
raising the golden World Cup trophy.
While the current popularity of the sport is hardly denied, very few people know of its origins. According to a 2009 New Frontier documentary,
soccer is believed to have originated about 2,500 years ago in China during the Han Dynasty. It was called "cuju" (zu–joo). In the documentary, Mr.
Ma Guoqing, curator at Linzi Football Museum in China, states that the original rules were based on nature. For instance, a ball was used because
the sky was circular and a square court because the earth was believed to be square. Just as there were twelve months in a year, twelve players
would be in the game of cuju, six players for each team. The game was extremely violent, allowing players to collide aggressively with each other
without any penalties. Not surprisingly, in the beginning, the sport was practiced by soldiers only, not by the common people or by nobility, as it
would later be the case. The objective was to put the ball into a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An early painting from the Song Dynasty period shows the Chinese emperor and some high–ranking officials playing cuju with a ball that looks very
similar to the one used in modern soccer. It has pentagonal–shaped pieces of processed ox hide sewn together from the inside. Another piece of
evidence is a painting from the Tang Dynasty; it shows noble ladies playing cuju with a ball made with pieces of leather. "These balls were solid,
stuffed with animal hair, and served the same purpose as the modern–day soccer ball," explained the museum

Fifa Women 's World Cup Essay
Thirty million dollars, that's what the German National Soccer team made last year for winning the World Cup. The World Cup is one of the most
prestigious accomplishments in any sport. The players in the World Cup are some of the hardest working, highest paid athletes in the world. These
players are paid tremendous amounts of money by their club, their country, and FIFA. However this is not the only World Cup, on a different four
year rotation is the FIFA Women's World Cup. The women in the World Cup are treated as inferior because of their gender in terms of payment,
respect and also treated poorly by their own governing body.
The FIFA Women's World Cup started in 1991 as a twelve
–team tournament. It has since expanded to a 24–team tournament that features tremendous
athletic ability and intense competition. The United States has won the Women's World Cup three times, more than any other country, and is currently
recognized by FIFA as the best team in the world.
The Federation International de Football Association, FIFA, or in English the International Federation ofAssociation Football, is the governing body of
soccer and soccer related games, such as futsal and beach soccer. FIFA is a non
–profit organization with the responsibility of governing the game of
soccer by making the laws of the game, overseeing club and national completion, and organizing championships. FIFA is also in charge of both the
men and women's world cups. For the men FIFA perform these duties

History And Evolution Of The Game
Football History and Evolution Aspects of the game can be traced back to the early second and third century BC in China. Military manuals at the
time describe an exercise called Tsu Chu, in which players used a leather ball filled with feathers and hair. The aim of the game was to get the ball
into a small net fixed on to bamboo canes while attempting the opposing team from doing the same to their net. Variations of the game are also
documented in Egyptian and Greek society (History Channel, 2013) The main rules that make you modern day football we established in
England 1854, the standard dimensions of the ball we later agreed in 1863 and finally the duration of the game was set in 1866.(FIFA). The first
football competition in the word, the FA cup was established in 1872 and involved 50 teams. The first international game of football was played
between England and Scotland in 1872. The game spread fairly rapidly across the world from then on with FIFA being established in 1904 with 7
founding member countries. The first world cup was held in 1930. By 2007 there were 207 member countries part of FIFA representing almost
every country in the world. (FIFA, 2016) The use of technology on the refereeing of the game has been minute as it is feared it would not be 100%
reliable and slow down the game. However recently goal line technology has been introduced to make sure the ball has crossed the line before a goal
can be awarded. On the playing side of the game new technology

Persuasive Speech : Sports Is A Huge Thing That Mean A...
Onsite audience
Abstract:
Sports is a huge thing that mean a lot for people all over the countries because of the entertainment which is provided to them by it. The sport has no
meaning without the fans and spectators which they come and watch the sport onsite, they are like the soulmate they complete each other. The
debate that has been found here was about "do onsite audience do more good than harm?". There was two opinions that have been raised here, one
opinion with the spectators while other opinion against the spectators. Who are against claim that spectators onsite do a lot of violence acts and they
are huge danger on players because, they stress players while playing. On the contrary the other opinion say that the spectators do a lot for sports as
they give spirit for players and also enhance the economy of a lot of team sports, the upcoming lines will show how sensible that why the second
opinion is more true and valid.
Nowadays the concept of spectating in sports is a part of the game, there is no meaning for sports without audience and fans. It has been known that the
football has the most audience among all other sports, most of people love football and watch it frequently. There is a lot of other spectator sports
like volleyball, hand ball , rugby , ice hokey and a lot of other spectator sports but football is the most watched sport and have most fans among these
sports. Usually the football sport have most number of onsite spectators or audience due

Since this change there has been a significant increase in drug related offences, a problem that the public health department has been unable to
control. The parties and the festivities of the World Cup will be sure to increase illegal drug sales and consumption, without the funding to keep the
issue under control. The money the nation is giving to FIFA for the World Cup could be used to better train law enforcement officials and establish
security programs that would keep citizens safe. Brazil has become a nation that cannot provide the proper security for its citizens, but is quick to hand
over 3.5 billion dollars to refurbish sports stadiums. Law enforcement and police training aren't the only areas where Brazil is lacking an education.
Brazil was ranked 53rd in an international study of education systems, an accurate placing due to the amount of children receiving a low level
education, or no education at all. In the poorer regions of Brazil, children receive a lower level of education due to the lack of amenities and
resources. Children in wealthier cities receive much better schooling because the education system is based on the area the students live in. This
inequality causes some children to feel like school isn't worth their time, and instead spend their days at home or working in a child labor job.
Attendance issues have been a result of poverty, many malnourished children don't attend school because it is difficult for them to adjust

The Pros And Cons Of The World Cup
Is it a good idea for Fifa to change the amount of nations that qualify to the World Cup from 32 to 48? Fifa has decided to expand the amount of
nations that make the WC starting in the 2026 World cup that will be hosted either in Canada, USA, or Mexico. This is going to have its pros and
cons but mainly it will be very more exciting and it will show more signs of progressing, starting off with the fact that economically wise it will be
a huge plus, it will bring more passion to the game that is loved by millions worldwide, and last it will make the competition longer than it is with
32 nations. The way qualification works with 32 nations is very simple, In Europe for example, each group has 6 countries from Europe, one
group for instance being Netherlands, France, Sweden, Bulgaria, Belarus, and Luxembourg. There are a total of 9 groups and basically you play
every opponent in your group 2 times home and away in a span of 3 years. at the end of the 3 years the top 2 nations from each group go straight to the
world, the 3rd place one has to play a two leg play–off game against another country that also ends in 3rd, the winner of that goes to the world cup.
This works the same way with every other region in the world with the only difference being with the amount of countries in a group and how... Show

its many notable achievements. Some of these achievements include world record breakers for both men and women. It is believed that Pele was
considered the greatest soccer player of all time. In 1960 he was called a "national treasure" (Helmer and Owens, 17). Pele helped Brazil win its
first World Cup in 1958 at the age of seventeen. His determination could be seen when he became injured in 1962, yet was still able to win the
World Cup for Santos. Even though he was injured again in 1966 he played outstanding in the 1970 tournament. He retired from International soccer
in 1971 and also from club soccer in 1974. He later came back to play for the New York Cosmos from 1975 to 1977 (Gifford, 54). In twenty–one years,
Pele played 1,324 professional games and scored 1,282 goals, including 8 goals in a single game (Helmer and Owens, 17). Women's soccer has also
had many notable achievements. Mia Hamm from the United States, who was born with a partial club foot, overcame her disability to become the

Sports As A Team And The Main Objective Of The Game
For rugby however, there are 15players on a team and the main objective of the game is to use the ball to have more points than the other team. In
this sport a player can run, kick and pass with the ball but they are not allowed to pass the ball forward. It is a contact sport as the players can
tackle the opponent/opposition in order to get the ball. There are three ways to score points in rugby, which is by a try, a conversion and a goal
kick. A try is worth five points, a conversion is worth two points, and a goal kick is work three points. Therefore, this sport becomes a high scoring
game. Rugby is played on a grass field with lines on it to outline the boundaries. At each end of the fields there are goal posts at either end with an in
goal area, where players can score their points by placing the ball over this try line. One team defends and the other is trying to score points, the same as
netball. Rugby consists of eight minutes and is split into forty minute half's. At half time there is a ten–minute break then teams swap ends of the field.
These are the basic rules, regulations and objectives of this sport rugby.
Physical and mental training is required in both sports of Netball and Rugby. Mental attitude and focus are essential elements in performance of these
two sports. For optimal performance, athletes within these two sports need to learn mental skills to activate and maintain their level of motivation.

Sports Politics : Is The Fear Of A Loss Of Power? Essay
Sports Politics Essay
"Power does not corrupt. Fear corrupts... perhaps the fear of a loss of power." (Steinbeck) International Sports Organizations have long been regarded as
entities who are committed to the highest level of honesty among many multinational governing bodies. They set programs in place for mass inclusion,
fund programs designed to help conflicting communities through sport, and demonstrate commendable levels of fairness and transparency. Self
interested policies could never exist within such a fair democratic structure, many times the policies implemented are meant to provide the utmost level
of cooperation needed to further the expansion of sport on a global and local level. At least that's what they would have you believe. The argument to
be made is whether international sports organizations, specifically FIFA, are engaged in questionable practices that allow them to impose their will
upon those who stand in their way. FIFA has long been regarded as the dominant governing body in theworld of football as they control the entire
process behind all aspects of the World Cup and other international tournaments. However, have you ever stopped to think about why they have been
so successful in remaining the sole actor in this role? International sports organizations maintain a high level of influence on a global scale, the amount
of power amassed by FIFA since their inception has exceeded that of many governments and has allowed them to be massive

Crime and violence have been minimal, the stadiums have been lauded, the crowds have been happy, the foreign visitors are impressed, the logistical
challenges have been overcome and the nation is basking in global praise." The impact the World Cup has had on the reputation of SouthAfrica is
clearly illustrated here, the World believes that this nation is capable of handling major events and has the political power to move forward.
2.3 Economic impact
Any major event will create an increase in the economy surrounding it, through tourism, development and other contributing factors. The World Cup
2010 generated a huge amount for the South African economy, estimated to be around ВЈ3.3 billion. A report by UBS Investment Research predicted
build up to the World Cup would add between 0.5% and 2.2% to South African GDP and created more than 300,000 jobs, this would be 2.7% of total
employment.
FIFA requires all stadiums hosting World Cup games to be state of the art and of high quality with executive boxes. South Africa had to invest over
$1.5 billion into building five new stadia and improving a further five more. For the purpose of the World Cup this was a good investment, but looking
into the future the stadia will ultimately put a heavy burden on the South African Football Associations financial budget. With the average attendance
of a premier league game in the 2009/10 season being 8,000, it will be near to impossible to gain the annual $10million

Prisoner's Dilemma Essay
The theory of Public Goods and Prisoner's Dilemma games have been used on numerous occasions to characterize bargaining situations in the
International Political Economy. The Prisoners Dilemma is an abstract game model that is often used to depict the difficulties that governments face
when trying to cooperate in the global economy. Unfortunately, withinInternational Trade, there are aspects that may take the form of the prisoner's
dilemmas than public goods. Public goods are also called collective goods. These are goods that cannot practically be withheld from one consumer
without withholding them from all. In the Prisoner's Dilemma model, only one prisoner, or state can go free. This situation can only happen at the
expense of the others. A country can liberalize, by opening its market to for another country to export. A country can protect itself by using tariffs to
keep the other countries products out of its domestic market. The prisoner's dilemma outcome of protect and liberalize are more preferred than to
liberalize and liberalize because the initiator gains from the tariffs, while their trading partner benefits from being able to access from that country. The
theory highlights that when each country pursue their own self– interest, then the outcomes are worse than if they had of cooperated with another
country. Although, it does show that cooperation is not always in one's best interests. Pareto optimal is where there is no single actor or state that is
better off

Essay On Soccer In America
When you travel to Madrid, Spain you look around and you see soccer, otherwise known as futbol there, everywhere possible. On the day of a

As they cheer on their teams, they understand the game and get into the game like one would do for football in America. When you travel 4500

Icc Of The Icc Constitution And Structure Essay
In early 2014, an ICC meeting was held in Singapore to discuss possible revisions to the ICC constitution and structure. The main matter to be
discussed was the potential formation of a "big three", which would completely overhaul cricket's governance and finances. Eight out of the ten full
ICC members voted in favor of the changes, which would give greater authority and autonomy to England, Australia and India, with only two nations
Pakistan and Sri Lanka abstaining from the vote. This meeting led to the formation of the "big three" in international cricket. Originally, member
nations would receive equal distribution of the money generated from world tournaments and television deals. Now, however, India, Australia, and
England would gain a larger piece of the aggregate revenue and smaller countries would be victims to drastic budget cuts. Furthermore, a new
executive committee will be formed with five members to discuss pertinent ICC financial and competition matters, with England and Wales Cricket
Board (ECB), Cricket Australia (CA) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) all guaranteed a permanent place in the committee. The ICC
which claims to promote and protect equality and fairness in cricket, is clearly working against its ideals when it passed this resolution to form the
"big three". Now the power balance has shifted and smaller countries are now weaker because of this new deal. India, Australia and England now have
an oligopoly on international cricket,

The Fifa World Cup Event
The FIFA World Cup, as one of the most prestigious sporting events in the world that comes around every four years, is often assumed by potential host
countries as highly profitable. Current research, however, suggests that the economic growth experienced by these host nations due to the World Cup
event is lower than the expectations they had. Specifically, a number of economists assert that no observable short–term economic growth exists within
the tourism, retailing, accommodation, and employment sectors of each one of the host countries (Allmers& Maennig, 2009). As for the long–term
impacts, some scholars insist that the World Cup cannot boost the four sectors listed above (Baumann, Robert, Bryan Engelhardt, and Victor A.
Matheson 2012), while others argue that other beneficial factors, that do not affect the host countries in the short term, generate economic profits for
host countries in the long term (Maennig, 2009). Some scholars even critique this claim, however, arguing that the new factors won't bring profits to
host countries.
In my opinion, the World Cup seems to give the allusion that it will benefit the economy right away in the short run, but this not necessarily true. On
the other hand it is beneficial to the host countries and the international economy in the long run, assuming that different factors are considered in the
long–term analysis. These factors include the novelty effect of new stadiums, the feel–good effect on citizens, and the World Cup's effect

In the NWSL, a plethora of athletes are retiring, but it isn't because they can't keep up with the high level of play in the league. Many of these retiring
players are in their twenties, and at their athletic peak or nearing it, but they are forced to retire because they can't support themselves, let alone their
families, with the unreasonably low wages they are being payed. The minimum salary of the NWSL is $6,842, and considering how many hours these
athletes put into ensuring that they are at the top of their game, their salary averages out at about minimum wage (Kassouf). This is just over 10% of
the MLS's $60,000 minimum salary (Kassouf). Kate Deines, former midfielder for the Seattle Reign retired from the NWSL last year at the age of 25
because of financial issues. After she announced her retirement, Deines was quoted saying, "It's actually pathetic when I think about what we make,"

Summary: Women Should Get Paid
In the United States of America, women are getting paid less than men that work the same job. Recently there has been a push for businesses to get rid
of the difference in salary between the sexes, but some salaries haven't changed. During the summer of 2015, the United States women's national soccer
team (USWNT) won the women's FIFA World Cup

the German men's national soccer team won the men's FIFA World Cup and received five hundred and seventy–five million dollars and a thirty five

The World Cup allows countries to display their nationalism in supporting their countries team, but to also show how the game of football is a
language that we all speak regardless of your religion, language, political views, and culture. The objectivity of FIFA on picking the location of
recent World Cups has brought FIFA and its president Sepp Blatter under heavy criticism. FIFA has specifically been criticized regarding the role of
politics in objectively picking each World Cup's location (Plaja, Steffi). Objectively picking a World Cup location requires specific criteria for a
location to be considered, some countries just do not have the infrastructure among other criteria to host the World Cup. As a non–governmental
organization, FIFA is required to hold a political objectivity when choosing the location for each World Cup. Recent allegations of corruption in the
location selection process have brought FIFA's highest members under heavy criticism. FIFA's current selection process allows countries who want
to host the World Cup to submit bids to FIFA. The bidding process allows for politics to become heavily integrated into the overall selection process
(Plaja, Steffi). Allowing countries to bid for the ability to host the World Cup provides some countries with a significant advantage over others to win
the bid. FIFA's bidding process has allowed politics

Brazilwood was a key product for Portuguese trade. But the focus on timber would soon change. Cash crops in the form of sugar cane production
became the focus. Slavery was needed for the growing of sugar cane and replaced the unsuccessful usage of native people for labor. "Regular slave
trade between Brazil and Africa was begun in the 1550s as a temporary measure to replace the Indians decimated by war and disease, but it lasted for
over 300 years, and the institution of slavery persisted until 1889, Brazil being the last country of the American hemisphere to abolish it." The
agricultural focus of sugar cane changed to coffee bean production in the late 19th century. As coffee began to take off, slavery was abolished. With the
influx of Africans halted, foreign immigration was promoted. This would have a profound effect on the societal make–up of the colony. Mass
migrations were already occurring as the Portuguese had established their minute South American empire. Between 1884 and 1920 three million
immigrants, mainly Italian, entered the country. Portuguese, Germans, Italians, Spanish, Britons, the descendants of African slaves and the products of
racial mixtures of Brazilian Indians, Europeans, and Africans would be the kin of those who football would become entrenched within. Football first
arrived on the shores of Brazil in 1864. British soldiers on shore leave kicked the ball around on their free time.

This can be in a positive way e.g. gaining of the knowledge but also in a negative way, such as staged authenticity. Furthermore, they can have positive
and negative environmental impacts, namely an improvement of infrastructure or littering. Lastly, there can be economical impacts (Page &
Connell, 2009). Although these can prove negative in the long term, most economical impacts are positive because the tourists come and spend money
at a destination.
If we take a look at the perspective of Brazilian tourism with regard to events such as the World Cup 2014, we can conclude that a lot of its success
depends on the Olympic Games of 2016. Ainsworth–Wells (2013) describes the preparation of Rio for the Olympic Games as rather positive: "If I
could draw a graph depicting Rio de Janeiro's trajectory and status against these factors as it prepares to host the 2016 Olympics it would currently be
somewhere in the middle, but heading in one direction – upwards" (Ainswort–Wells, 2013). Positive developments, such as the fact that the
accommodation sector is largely dominated by Brazilian companies or the renovation of port areas through public–private partnerships, can be
recognized. Yet one of the biggest concerns is the traffic. As there will not be enough time anymore to work on the underground metro system, the city
of Rio aims at revolutionizing the bus system. Taking into account the fact that during the World Cup 2014 the vast majority perceived their visit

Persuasive Essay On Football
Specific purpose: To convince my audience to back the move to hold the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
Central idea: FIFA is focused on bringing people together and break down barriers, therefore, despite the many controversies concerning the ability of
Qatar holding the games, it is a great idea as it will help in promoting cohesion.
Introduction
According to FIFA (2014), its mandate is to develop football in every part of the world and for all the people. The association turns the
accomplishment of the FIFA World Cupinto football expansion and restructuring its assets to the international football community. Also, it is
dedicated to capitalizing in the global football progress. FIFA World Cup 2022 has been met with a lot of controversies, especially, after the
announcement that the games will be held in Qatar. Mainly, countries and human rights organizations have expressed their concerns on the issue
(Gibson, 2014). Some argue that Qatar offers unsafe environment especially for the many migrant laborers who are tasked with building infrastructure
to host the World Cup. Despite all the arguments, it is significant to focus on the benefits that the FIFA World Cup 2022 will have in the country and
also on the bid by the federation to promote cohesion globally. FIFA is focused on bringing people together and break down barriers, therefore,
despite the many controversies concerning the ability of Qatar holding the games, it is a great idea as it will help in promoting unity.

Brief History Of Soccer Research Paper

  • 1. Brief History Of Soccer Research Paper Soccer has been described as the most beautiful game in the world. It is certainly the most popular; it's played by more than 265 million worldwide! Every four years, thirty–two countries from around the world gather – after going through a grueling qualifying process – to compete for the honor of raising the golden World Cup trophy. While the current popularity of the sport is hardly denied, very few people know of its origins. According to a 2009 New Frontier documentary, soccer is believed to have originated about 2,500 years ago in China during the Han Dynasty. It was called "cuju" (zu–joo). In the documentary, Mr. Ma Guoqing, curator at Linzi Football Museum in China, states that the original rules were based on nature. For instance, a ball was used because the sky was circular and a square court because the earth was believed to be square. Just as there were twelve months in a year, twelve players would be in the game of cuju, six players for each team. The game was extremely violent, allowing players to collide aggressively with each other without any penalties. Not surprisingly, in the beginning, the sport was practiced by soldiers only, not by the common people or by nobility, as it would later be the case. The objective was to put the ball into a ... An early painting from the Song Dynasty period shows the Chinese emperor and some high–ranking officials playing cuju with a ball that looks very similar to the one used in modern soccer. It has pentagonal–shaped pieces of processed ox hide sewn together from the inside. Another piece of evidence is a painting from the Tang Dynasty; it shows noble ladies playing cuju with a ball made with pieces of leather. "These balls were solid, stuffed with animal hair, and served the same purpose as the modern–day soccer ball," explained the museum ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Fifa Women 's World Cup Essay Thirty million dollars, that's what the German National Soccer team made last year for winning the World Cup. The World Cup is one of the most prestigious accomplishments in any sport. The players in the World Cup are some of the hardest working, highest paid athletes in the world. These players are paid tremendous amounts of money by their club, their country, and FIFA. However this is not the only World Cup, on a different four year rotation is the FIFA Women's World Cup. The women in the World Cup are treated as inferior because of their gender in terms of payment, respect and also treated poorly by their own governing body. The FIFA Women's World Cup started in 1991 as a twelve –team tournament. It has since expanded to a 24–team tournament that features tremendous athletic ability and intense competition. The United States has won the Women's World Cup three times, more than any other country, and is currently recognized by FIFA as the best team in the world. The Federation International de Football Association, FIFA, or in English the International Federation ofAssociation Football, is the governing body of soccer and soccer related games, such as futsal and beach soccer. FIFA is a non –profit organization with the responsibility of governing the game of soccer by making the laws of the game, overseeing club and national completion, and organizing championships. FIFA is also in charge of both the men and women's world cups. For the men FIFA perform these duties ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The aim of the game was to get the ball into a small net fixed on to bamboo canes while attempting the opposing team from doing the same to their net. Variations of the game are also documented in Egyptian and Greek society (History Channel, 2013) The main rules that make you modern day football we established in England 1854, the standard dimensions of the ball we later agreed in 1863 and finally the duration of the game was set in 1866.(FIFA). The first football competition in the word, the FA cup was established in 1872 and involved 50 teams. The first international game of football was played between England and Scotland in 1872. The game spread fairly rapidly across the world from then on with FIFA being established in 1904 with 7 founding member countries. The first world cup was held in 1930. By 2007 there were 207 member countries part of FIFA representing almost every country in the world. (FIFA, 2016) The use of technology on the refereeing of the game has been minute as it is feared it would not be 100% reliable and slow down the game. However recently goal line technology has been introduced to make sure the ball has crossed the line before a goal can be awarded. On the playing side of the game new technology ... Since this change there has been a significant increase in drug related offences, a problem that the public health department has been unable to control. The parties and the festivities of the World Cup will be sure to increase illegal drug sales and consumption, without the funding to keep the issue under control. The money the nation is giving to FIFA for the World Cup could be used to better train law enforcement officials and establish security programs that would keep citizens safe. Brazil has become a nation that cannot provide the proper security for its citizens, but is quick to hand over 3.5 billion dollars to refurbish sports stadiums. Law enforcement and police training aren't the only areas where Brazil is lacking an education. Brazil was ranked 53rd in an international study of education systems, an accurate placing due to the amount of children receiving a low level education, or no education at all. In the poorer regions of Brazil, children receive a lower level of education due to the lack of amenities and resources. Children in wealthier cities receive much better schooling because the education system is based on the area the students live in. This inequality causes some children to feel like school isn't worth their time, and instead spend their days at home or working in a child labor job. • 9. The Pros And Cons Of The World Cup Is it a good idea for Fifa to change the amount of nations that qualify to the World Cup from 32 to 48? Fifa has decided to expand the amount of nations that make the WC starting in the 2026 World cup that will be hosted either in Canada, USA, or Mexico. This is going to have its pros and cons but mainly it will be very more exciting and it will show more signs of progressing, starting off with the fact that economically wise it will be a huge plus, it will bring more passion to the game that is loved by millions worldwide, and last it will make the competition longer than it is with 32 nations. The way qualification works with 32 nations is very simple, In Europe for example, each group has 6 countries from Europe, one group for instance being Netherlands, France, Sweden, Bulgaria, Belarus, and Luxembourg. There are a total of 9 groups and basically you play every opponent in your group 2 times home and away in a span of 3 years. at the end of the 3 years the top 2 nations from each group go straight to the world, the 3rd place one has to play a two leg play–off game against another country that also ends in 3rd, the winner of that goes to the world cup. It is believed that Pele was considered the greatest soccer player of all time. In 1960 he was called a "national treasure" (Helmer and Owens, 17). Pele helped Brazil win its first World Cup in 1958 at the age of seventeen. His determination could be seen when he became injured in 1962, yet was still able to win the World Cup for Santos. Even though he was injured again in 1966 he played outstanding in the 1970 tournament. He retired from International soccer in 1971 and also from club soccer in 1974. He later came back to play for the New York Cosmos from 1975 to 1977 (Gifford, 54). • 14. Sports Politics : Is The Fear Of A Loss Of Power? Essay Sports Politics Essay "Power does not corrupt. Fear corrupts... perhaps the fear of a loss of power." (Steinbeck) International Sports Organizations have long been regarded as entities who are committed to the highest level of honesty among many multinational governing bodies. They set programs in place for mass inclusion, fund programs designed to help conflicting communities through sport, and demonstrate commendable levels of fairness and transparency. Self interested policies could never exist within such a fair democratic structure, many times the policies implemented are meant to provide the utmost level of cooperation needed to further the expansion of sport on a global and local level. At least that's what they would have you believe. The argument to be made is whether international sports organizations, specifically FIFA, are engaged in questionable practices that allow them to impose their will upon those who stand in their way. FIFA has long been regarded as the dominant governing body in theworld of football as they control the entire process behind all aspects of the World Cup and other international tournaments. However, have you ever stopped to think about why they have been so successful in remaining the sole actor in this role? Prisoner's Dilemma Essay The theory of Public Goods and Prisoner's Dilemma games have been used on numerous occasions to characterize bargaining situations in the International Political Economy. The Prisoners Dilemma is an abstract game model that is often used to depict the difficulties that governments face when trying to cooperate in the global economy. Unfortunately, withinInternational Trade, there are aspects that may take the form of the prisoner's dilemmas than public goods. Public goods are also called collective goods. These are goods that cannot practically be withheld from one consumer without withholding them from all. In the Prisoner's Dilemma model, only one prisoner, or state can go free. This situation can only happen at the expense of the others. A country can liberalize, by opening its market to for another country to export. A country can protect itself by using tariffs to keep the other countries products out of its domestic market. The prisoner's dilemma outcome of protect and liberalize are more preferred than to liberalize and liberalize because the initiator gains from the tariffs, while their trading partner benefits from being able to access from that country. The theory highlights that when each country pursue their own self– interest, then the outcomes are worse than if they had of cooperated with another country. • 19. Icc Of The Icc Constitution And Structure Essay In early 2014, an ICC meeting was held in Singapore to discuss possible revisions to the ICC constitution and structure. The main matter to be discussed was the potential formation of a "big three", which would completely overhaul cricket's governance and finances. Eight out of the ten full ICC members voted in favor of the changes, which would give greater authority and autonomy to England, Australia and India, with only two nations Pakistan and Sri Lanka abstaining from the vote. This meeting led to the formation of the "big three" in international cricket. Originally, member nations would receive equal distribution of the money generated from world tournaments and television deals. Now, however, India, Australia, and England would gain a larger piece of the aggregate revenue and smaller countries would be victims to drastic budget cuts. Furthermore, a new executive committee will be formed with five members to discuss pertinent ICC financial and competition matters, with England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), Cricket Australia (CA) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) all guaranteed a permanent place in the committee. The ICC which claims to promote and protect equality and fairness in cricket, is clearly working against its ideals when it passed this resolution to form the "big three". • 22. The Fifa World Cup Event The FIFA World Cup, as one of the most prestigious sporting events in the world that comes around every four years, is often assumed by potential host countries as highly profitable. Current research, however, suggests that the economic growth experienced by these host nations due to the World Cup event is lower than the expectations they had. Specifically, a number of economists assert that no observable short–term economic growth exists within the tourism, retailing, accommodation, and employment sectors of each one of the host countries (Allmers& Maennig, 2009). As for the long–term impacts, some scholars insist that the World Cup cannot boost the four sectors listed above (Baumann, Robert, Bryan Engelhardt, and Victor A. Matheson 2012), while others argue that other beneficial factors, that do not affect the host countries in the short term, generate economic profits for host countries in the long term (Maennig, 2009). Some scholars even critique this claim, however, arguing that the new factors won't bring profits to host countries. In my opinion, the World Cup seems to give the allusion that it will benefit the economy right away in the short run, but this not necessarily true. On the other hand it is beneficial to the host countries and the international economy in the long run, assuming that different factors are considered in the long–term analysis. Ainsworth–Wells (2013) describes the preparation of Rio for the Olympic Games as rather positive: "If I could draw a graph depicting Rio de Janeiro's trajectory and status against these factors as it prepares to host the 2016 Olympics it would currently be somewhere in the middle, but heading in one direction – upwards" (Ainswort–Wells, 2013). Positive developments, such as the fact that the accommodation sector is largely dominated by Brazilian companies or the renovation of port areas through public–private partnerships, can be recognized. Yet one of the biggest concerns is the traffic. As there will not be enough time anymore to work on the underground metro system, the city of Rio aims at revolutionizing the bus system.
